What you said at the end of the video is now my new quote for when I'm talking to young people who may be struggling. "In the end, what really separates us is character. Skill set can be very very close. But it is your character, and your nature, and how you handle life, that can differentiate you from somebody else.

What a difference life would be in that statement! Life has been so difficult ( no blame) but some have to love themselves in a way others may not realize, and if there is losses....take a moment to know if you had better you could’ve done different but the reality is acceptance of your own story and value what and who you are, that’s your dignity❤️

Hi Dominique, I'm a 23-year-old girl from Ukraine, and I accidentally ran across your channel - what a happy coinsidence! I've been watching your videos almost non-stop for about a week now, and I just admire everything about you, from your voice and appearance to your class and character. You are an incredible woman, and a great role model for me, though we are very different in some areas. Thank you very much for your work, for your effort and for your soul you put in every video, be it about makeup, hairstyle or life in general. I see how your advice changes a bit how I perceive this world and how I want to present myself to it. I've recently watched your video on being classy, and though I believe I'll never become as graceful as you, your video still got me to rethink my behavior in some ways. This comment is a bit all over the place, but I just wanted to express my gratitude. You really make a positive difference to this world and influence people in a meaningful way. Thank you!

Well, I am almost 66....it snuck up on me. I have been run over physically literally bordering death 3 times....plus several physical setbacks of major proportion. I moved to Italy but have never really been able able to look around anymore. I have no family and no close friends that care about me and that i can rely on. I had those doors you talked about. I was good at them. But they have been splintered by my life. And no they cannot be repaired....too many of them to maintain. But, I like to sit and watch you. Gifted with an unbroken body.looks and smarts. I only regularly watch 3 people on you tube and you are one of them. Thanks for seeming to be a good person. You always make me smile and thank you for that too. I feel pretty sure I don't have to remind you how fortunate you are. And that makes you less self intitled. Totally charming, I think we had the same bug here in italy, I never thought I would stop coughing. But hugs and good thoughts going your way. And again thanks for the sharing. I am sure that you know there are many lost people out here in the dark...and you are a sunflower person.

My sister had a lot of health problems for the last 23 years of her life. She died young. The last three years, she couldn't do the things she'd always enjoyed. So, she simply found new things to enjoy. She was a shining example of cheerfully doing all things that lie in your power.

Wow, this was my favorite video from you!! I'm sick too btw :(. When I turned 50 I wanted to go back to school to get my Bachelors degree, no one in my family was educated and I was determined to prove that I could do it. So for the next 3 years my dear husband did all the cooking, cleaning, etc. so that I could achieve my dream. I finally graduated and proved not only to everyone else, but to myself that I could do whatever I set my mind to. Thank you so much for sharing.

This is great advice. Somebody told me once, slow down your words. I’m not a fast talker, but I learned that speaking in public was stressful to me because I was trying to speak so fast. If ever I had to make some kind of an announcement- let’s say over a loudspeaker, I remembered… Just slow down. It’s amazing how much that helped.

I believe I stumbled upon this video because it was exactly what I needed to hear at this very moment! A couple of days ago my husband Suffered a massive heart attack and by the grace of God survived! It was a big wake up call for us. I have a lot on my plate at the moment and was taking all of my responsibilities with me everywhere I went. Feeling so overwhelmed most of the time. It’s hard to have joy and gratitude when you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders. And it was clearly my choice to feel that way, this is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you For your wisdom!

You answered me in the best way to a question that really bothered me. This afternoon I said: "Fortunately I have to go to work and get some rest." A mental break. And then I thought "what ? Is this normal ?" When there is tension at home due to some problems I always go out. Whether for walking or shopping for home. And I feel much better. To be honest I felt guilty saying "Fortunately I have to go to work and get some rest" but today you offered me great relief. It is true that distancing helps. I'm talking to myself. Gym helps me to get clearer then I have better ways to deal with the problem. To have a peaceful home is a must for me. And Thank God we can do it!

Glad to see you’re feeling better! While being positive and focused has benefits, we are human. I hate being the bearer of bad news, but we all have a breaking point. Ignoring stresses and thinking you can handle everything put on your plate by being positive and “having the right attitude” can really cause serious damage..... some of it fatal!! A good doctor friend of mine did a study looking at heart disease and stress by studying the effects of home and work life. As long as parts of your life are good, your body and mind can cope with work or family stress...... there is however a breaking point and having both a bad home and work life leads to heart disease, depression etc....As someone who has made a few messes caused by ignoring and minimizing my significant depression, I think it’s really important to check in with yourself and be honest about what you can and can’t handle. Last and this is really important if you are push through stress kind of person, you may have people ignore you if you need help. When I finally went for help with depression, nobody took me seriously because I could put on a good face, exercised, ate well, clean house etc.....just because someone is high functioning does not mean they’re not ill. Our health is very prescious and we need to recognize our limits. Pushing yourself under selective conditions is fine and may even be great, but be careful and recognize bad situations that need to be remedied.

I think it needs taken in context. She was very young and in a field like radio/tv, harsh criticism is just the way. I don't think she'd ever advocate we exhaust ourselves or do or bodies harm....i benefits she's making the point of separating all our personal junk and work. ...and vice versa.

Wow, Dominique! Your message is so timely....not necessarily applicable for me, going on 60 this year, but hopefully, for so many of our millennials right now. Your message is very important and should be heeded by young professionals today. Obviously, you did not feel entitled (well perhaps a wee bit in the beginning) and you did your “due diligence” (and, oh, what a beautiful job you have done!). As a native Houstonian, I have so relished watching you grow your career from radio to on-air KPRC. Your you-tube channel has given me a whole-new perspective on the truly wonderful being that you are. Observing you every week night on Channel 2 means so much more to me now (and, girlfriend, your wardrobe is ahhhmazing!) and I have gleaned so much from your videos here. Thank you for your honesty, authenticity, and for being my neighbor. You are my fantasy “let’s-do-lunch” girlfriend if there ever was one (well, uh, next to Joan Rivers but Melissa and I will both have to await that fine day 😉). Our city (duh, WORLD!) is a better place with you in it. ❤️ Keep up the good work and don’t retire before moi!

Excellent advice. I live in the moment, because the present moment is the only time you can have any influence on your situation. Can’t change what hasn’t happened yet, and can’t change the past. Another metaphor is imagine your stress or problems can be stuffed into a box. Put that box on the shelf before you go to work, or onto your next “thing.” When you come back, it will be there for you to unpack it, sort it, think about it, or even..... throw it away! A less classy way of saying it is, if you put one foot in yesterday, the other foot in tomorrow, you end up peeing on today. Love ya Dominique, keep sharing all the good you have to bring more joy into other’s lives.

The examples you shared have struck a cord. I’m 53 and I don’t work outside of the house anymore because I take care of my mother with cancer. But my wood door is gonna be my bedroom door. When I wake and walk out of my bedroom for the day I am going to try your advise and technique of wiping the slate clean for that day. There is a lot on that slate for many reasons but it’s worth the try. I know I’m not and have not been my best self for a while cause all my energy is focused on anyone besides myself. Thank you for the wake up call and the inspiration.

Hello! I am using my husband's profile here...haha. Anyway, I listened to your video here last week and it made me think of the talk I had with one of our employees a few years ago. Coming from this perspective, I was able to encourage her to leave her personal life at the door and that she should be proud of her accomplishments at work! She was upset with me for a few days and apologized later for her past behaviour on the job (coming in late, crying at work, etc...) During her last few months of employment, she did a work program and learned to garden. Since then, she learned how to cook (on the job), manage a kitchen, even learned to drive! I just saw her today and she has a brand new car! I am so proud of her. I told her that SHE is my success story!

Today I watched the video and I was shocked I've heard so many common sentences there, that I've heard Monday. I've heard "You need focus to get you to your next level - I am not sitting here and investing my time and effort for nothing. I am investing in you because You can do it. You got potential and talent. I know you have it and I know you know that as well!. Your character is key here." Conclusion: Mentor is a keyplayer in life especially when you want to succeed. The ‘door’ is a brilliant concept. And as for character, if you don’t have the character you can build character.

I don't know if you have written a book but I do think you need to. You have so much positive self-help from your life experiences. This video has inspired me. I need to shut the door on my job when I come home and leave it outside and enter w/a beautiful clean slate. Awesome tool you have shared! Thank you Dominique.

This is an amazing video of pure honesty about how to balance life. I applaud you for sharing this with your audience. I can completely relate. I am a former information systems specialist. In my mid 20's, I traveled 10 months out of the year. I flew out on a Monday morning at 6am & flew home Friday night at about 8pm. Saturdays were the days I ran all of my errands, go to the dry cleaners & plan the following week. I slept most of Sunday. Then come Monday morning, it started all over again. I had to fit in the corporate office meets, schedule the next set of trips, etc... I like you had a meltdown. My former boss told me what your former boss told you. He told me, "don't as for permission, beg for forgiveness". So, I regained my composure & went back to desk. I made my new schedule with days off (I was the only one in my department). Next thing I know, my work was much more accurate, refined & I too had a positive attitude. I was able to spend time with friends and family & still do a great job at work. So, the morale of the story, one must balance work/home life in order to be a complete happy being. Once again thank you for sharing this with us. I look forward to your next video. Cheers 😉 🌷

Wow! Where do I start! No such thing as a coincidence. Last week I had a melt down and took a week off at work to regroup and get my focus back. While organizing I found a metal sign given to me by my former co-manager. She gave them out to each of our staff and hand picked everyone’s sign. For me she selected “The difference between the impossible and the possible is in a person’s determination.” I felt I was loosing my edge and loosing my joy at work. When I found the sign I stuck it a prominent place in my home where I would clearly see it. Also during my staycation I received a message from an acquaintance who I really respected and had known for a few years. I said to her that I was always impressed with her drive and ability to be persistent without being pushy. We were both in sales! I told her about an manager I had worked with briefly and what I loved about him was his “positivity!” I never use that word!! Now your video from a year ago pops up in my RU-vid feed. You talk about having a virus and being side-lined for a week. But you told the story about the “door” metaphor and a 💡 lightbulb went on in my head! I love the metaphor you gave! It’s so true we need to leave those things at the door and focus on the task at hand, both at work and at home. Negativity is a virus that spreads like wildfire!!! Thank you Dominique! One of your top ten videos in my book! God bless you!

Dear Dominique, I discovered you few months ago., on your utube channel.. I enjoy watching your enthusiasm, passion & advise. Today’s topic on the metaphor “door” was just what I need to hear. I am freelancing currently, took a break from a very hectic, toxic medical career. You are an inspiration, and will continue to follow your channel. 🙏❤️

Yes! My grandmother lived to be 109. She worked until she was 72. She told me to not stress about my career because after retiring, she never thought about her job, only about the people she's met along the way.

I get comments from friends on how upbeat and happy I seem to be all the time. I don't always feel that way but it takes so much energy to be sad and miserable so I decided early on to put a smile on my face and go out there and have fun in life. I end up feeling so good and rejuvenated after spending time with great company!

What I find fascinating is the revelation that your background is in radio. Not that it’s a surprise but it explained to me on a personal level why your videos speak to me. Those years of training served you well. What a remarkable delivery you have developed and a brilliant rapport with your viewers. Your resonant voice keeps me returning to your channel. It drew me far more than your attractiveness and beauty content. You keep it real. When you speak, there’s no posing, no spiel, no deception, but there’s a genuine respect for your viewers and a desire to reach us. Bravo, “Dubonique!” Thanks for sharing.

I wish I could talk for ten minutes without coughing. Ten days into this icky illness and I see no light at the end of the tunnel. Your talk today was thoughtful and heartfelt. I too was in radio in my early days, on the news side. I learned, without a mentor, that I had to bring my A game to the air. If I didn't do my job, there was no newscast, dead airtime, disaster. I also co-hosted a morning news-talk show. Good lessons in all of that! As a 50-something former journalist, I enjoy your videos.

I usually do not comment on you tube but your videos are always the first ones I watch whenever they come out. I know the pain you are going through and can not imagine what it’s like to go through this and be on social media. You always handle yourself with such elegance and grace and are an inspiration to many people. As a fellow Houstonian I appreciate all the places you visit, the outfits and glam! More importantly I recognize a beautiful spirit with flaws, insight and emotional depth. Never stop being strong, vulnerable, beautiful, hard working, tired, emotional, elegant: for all of these things make us human. All of these things and so much more make us women.
