Thanks for all the videos and content on air purifiers! With a bunch of new air purifiers on the market, and limited shipping options from online suppliers, will you guys be reviewing some of the products sold in stores like Costco, Home Depot, or Lowes? I ask because most of these stores sell models (Winix D Series for eample), that are not covered online! Thanks again!
I do plan on testing more units sold only in brick and mortar stores in the future. Do note that many models sold in brick and mortar stores are very similar to models sold online. For example, the very popular Winix C545 sold at Costco is very similar to the 5300-2. As such, most of my 5300-2 review applies to the C545.
I just ordered a Winnix after watching your videos. I have been using 2 Orecks Truman cell units in the house but my understanding is they don't do anything for dust. This area in Central California is an extremely dusty (and smokey from the fires) place which aggravates my COPD. So thanks for your excellent videos. Much appreciated.
I have been scouring You-tube for air purifier recommendations and found 99% of them untrustworthy. Most are promotional. One video recommends a unit while the next video rates the identical unit poorly. Thank you for your research. I’ve made a decision to go with the Conway purifier and if it works to my satisfaction I’ll purchase another one for another area of house. You are the ONLY one that makes this logical conclusion.
Im so lost in my hunt for a purifier. Main concern is nonstop dust in a 200sqft bedroom. Very light sleeper(noise/lights). Please please help me out a recommendation
The advantage of the Coway over the winix I've heard, is the smart sensor only reads gasses and the Coways sensor is for particulates such as dust. Which is much more important for my needs living in the desert Southwest, so I will probably get the Coway. Do you know if that's true ?
I have severe allergies and I’m looking to buy an air purifier to help. I was looking into the Conway purifiers based on lots of reviews. Though, was wondering if I live in a 900 sq ft apartment and want the whole apartment purified should I buy a bigger unit and just keep it centrally located or get a smaller one and move it from room to room?
For 900 sq. ft. I would recommend three 250 CFM units like the Coway Mighty. You can purchase a single unit and move it from room to room to see how that works for you to start and then buy additional units later if you find it too much of hassle. I generally do not recommend a single high CFM unit for such a large space. See my reasoning here: www.consumeranalysis.com/guides/air-purifiers/large-room-air-purifier/
My apologies for not being able to use your affiliate link (the relevant air purifiers on Amazon are all sold out on account of the West Coast climate fires). I bought a Winix 5500-2 from an eBay person based mainly on your well-explained recommendation.
You can use our general buying guide (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Cgn-K5wbh2A.html) to determine whether a particular model is a good option or not. For example, in the video we talk about how it's absolutely critical that you buy a unit with a true HEPA filter and solid output (CFM). If you find a particular model that fits these criteria well you're already well on your way to a solid option.
Hey I already got a 5500-2 but what's with 99.99 h13 claims Alen FLEX Air Purifier, H13 True HEPA for Large Rooms up to 700 Sqft, SleepScore Validated, Dust, Mold, Pet Odors, White, heading 2 saw on zamazon for 250 with 5 mo pnnts. Btw winix supposedly has 2 yr warranty . Also what about a230 and a231 for 85 to 86 bucks ? For smaller units. For a half price of 5500 2. Plus the 535 for 180... What do you think of Oransi? Saw the least amount of comments here so I figured I would ask the questions on this video it is not specific to dust but dust is a big issue and as I learned from one of the videos that you had posted that it just needs to be moving out about in the air for rather your website which again just trying to understand through other brands as well good work
There’s now Coway AP-1512HHS which comes with carbon palets filter. It is a bit more expensive ($250 today), but info woth updating your “latest” article. Great reviews, btw. You provide a common sense yet very valuable information.
Thanks for these thorough reviews. I prefer the look of the Coway, but I'm concerned about odor control. My apartment has a mild musty smell--from carpets and soft furniture likely--not a heavy pet odor--and the Winix's more substantial carbon filter would seem to do a better job on that. Or would the Coway be sufficient on a mild odor? Also, have you reviewed the WInnix AM90?
I have not yet had a chance to review the AM90. To answer your first question: Particle removal alone will go a long way in reducing the smell in your apartment. In other words, I think the Coway (which offers the same level of particle filtration as the Winix) will work just fine for your purposes.
Yes, absolutely. I discuss dust mites and air purifiers in detail in the written guide here: www.consumeranalysis.com/guides/air-purifiers/air-purifier-for-dust/
Dyson air purifiers have much lower output and so I would only recommend them for very small rooms. I talk about Dyson units in detail in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ji3T20fb-Bc.html
Nice but in my area there are no such brands lol. Could you test more “mainstream” products? Like Philips 5000i, 3000i, 2000i (looking for it), sharp KC D60, sharp kc, D50, D40, xiaomi mi air purifier pro/3H, taurus ap2030.
Unfortunately, many of the brands and models you mentioned are not readily available in the United States. That being said, I will do my best to buy at least a few internationally available options next time I test air purifiers for review.
Which air purifier do you recommend for major dust removal? I'm not that concerned about the other stuff, i just want something that will suck up dust. I have a Blueair 203, but it's not doing much for dust. Budget is somewhere around $700 max
I would simply recommend getting multiple top rated units (i.e. Winix or Coway units). Unfortunately, there's no unit on the market that specializes in particle filtration (i.e. that's optimized for particles like dust specifically) that I'm aware of.
I own a honeywell hpa300. I like the air blowing up instead of at us. The fact that there’s no harmful uv/ion & washable prefilter won me over, but once I opened the box, the instructions says not to get water on the prefilter.. Umm I’m confused on if I want to keep it now since it doesn’t even come with a remote. On the other hand it does do it’s job. It just sucks It’s not one whole hepa filter:( So I will have to buy 3 total:( It’s not supposed to have a fan yet it feels cold. I now am considering a winix or a dyson
He’s recently put the newer version of the Winix in the top spot. I have both and personally prefer the one in this video. It’s lighter and easier to move around and doesn’t take up as much space. I also prefer the display readout.
