The points in this video are valid and solid, I think. Watching this video confirms my reasons of why I believe the Captain America trilogy is the best in the MCU. Also, I think the analysis in this video debunks the idea that CA: Civil War is an Avengers movie.

The thing i most love is that if the accords came in during avengers 1, they would be on opposite sides. At the start of his arc cap is trusting of the government, but learns they arent trustworthy. Tony however first rejects the government and doesnt give up the suit, but after constantly failing by his own poor judgement, he relies on government oversight because he cant trust himself. Such amazing arcs!

I thought Tony was right except for going after Bucky but that was understandable. Even T'Chala went after Bucky for revenge. Tony's reaction was more similar to Peter Quill's reaction in IW as both are very emotional characters and I consider neither of them to be villains. Flawed characters are just more interesting.

"With great power comes great responsibility." Stark doesn't want the responsibility and wants to take it off his shoulders and place it on the bureaucracy.

Cap describes the Accords as: "If we sign this, we surrender our right to choose. What if this panel sends us somewhere we don't think we should go? What if there's somewhere we need to go and they don't let us? We may not be perfect but the safest hands are still our own." No one refutes Steve's characterization of the Accords. But Steve isn't just talking about the Accords. He's also talking about Bucky. Bucky has been robbed of his volition by Hydra. Bucky never chose to join Hydra. Bucky can't volunteer for assignments. Bucky can't recommend missions that he thinks he should undertake. He can't offer alternative strategies for the missions he is assigned to. Bucky just does what his Hydra superiors tell him to. Bucky is the living embodiment of the Accords. And the pro-Accords faction in Civil War is trying to kill him for that. After the embassy bombing, when all they have to go on is some grainy security footage, Ross immediately sends out an assassination team to murder Bucky. They all know he's just a tool of Hydra, that he would likely have been given that assignment by his "superiors" in whatever remnant Hydra cell has control over him. But no one is interested in tracking down and eliminating the Hydra cell. They just want to kill Bucky. But not Steve. Steve knows Bucky wouldn't have decided on his own account to blow up the UN. So Steve saves Bucky in order to find out who is really behind events. And by the end of the fight, we are introduced to Black Panther, a champion of the Accords, a guy who claims that superheroes should only engage in missions if they are sent by a superior authority. Yet BP isn't on assignment. He's on a personal mission of vengeance. At the first available opportunity, he ignores his obligations to the Accords in favor of a personal vendetta because he believes that his hands are best suited to direct his actions. By the end of the movie, we have Steve telling Bucky that he never had a choice but to serve Hydra, about how he isn't responsible for his actions because his ability to choose was stripped from him. And Bucky responds that he still did it. While Tony attempts to escape blame for the consequences of his actions, Bucky (who cannot be held morally accountable for his) nonetheless feels guilty for his. So when Tony discovers that Bucky was sent to kill his parents, he doesn't blame Hydra - he blames Bucky. Despite knowing that Bucky had no choice, that he was forced to kill Howard and Maria against his will, Tony still hold Bucky accountable. Tony repudiates the entire purpose of the Accords and tries to kill their living avatar. That is the genius of Civil War. The champions of the Accords relentlessly attacks and tries to murder the Accords (all while evading or ignoring their obligations to their superior authorities). The opponents of the Accords try to protect and preserve the Accords.

I'm glad that there are others out there that appreciate the intricacies and depth in this movie. Civil War is my #1 rewatched Marvel movie. Captain America is my favorite MCU hero because he is good. You can give me morally grey heroes all day, but I look to a hero to be better than me; someone who makes the moral choice so often that when they misstep (even with a little secret) the whole world seems thrown into chaos. I think there aren't as many Cap fans out there because it's easier to empathize and relate to a flawed character. Not many people want their own choices put into question by a truly virtuous character. For me, I look to Cap as the example that I can be better than what I am; that I can rise from the "grey" and virtuous as well. Not to say that will happen, but it's something to hope and strive for. And isn't that what superheroes are supposed to give us? Hope?

10:11 In other words, unstoppable force meets immovable object TBH Tony, and Steve never wanted to kill each other. They are just venting. It's more destructive because they are superheros. As Tony says in Homecoming, if Cap wanted to kill someone, he would have and so would Tony. We are talking about a walking-talking tank and a guy with a Frisbee that takes out jets.

The genius move that gets overlooked far too much is that Tony was already the villain in Age of Ultron.

I love the look on Tony's face when Cap wins. You can tell for a second he's thinking "Wow. I'm kind of a peice of shit! Did I really think Cap would ever try to kill me?" and you can see in that moment he's full of rage and hatred towards himself. It hurts. It physically hurts to watch. Like a wounded child he lashes out at Cap to try to get the last word in some strange vain attempt to save face or prove his point "Gimme back my daddies shield!" Such a great movie.

I remember the first time I saw Civil War... It hit me right in the feels.. and I almost cried when Tony saw the video.

I am a stubborn person. When I set my mind to something, I keep going. Whether proven wrong or not. The BEST part of this film WITHOUT A DOUBT, is in the final fight. When Steve has Tony taken down and goes to deliver the final blow, Tony's lack of trust makes him block a kill shot. Steve never would have killed him, we all know that, he was just going for the suit. Tony's fear is his downfall, but Steve's heart is why he wins.

This has always been my favourite MCU movie but...wow! You really made me see a different side to it and even a different side to myself. Thank You for the video, this is my favourite video on the channel.

I get the love for Captain America: Civil War, but really, the one I keep going back to again and again is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It has a better story, more believable motivations, and, imho, a few of the best fight scenes compared with all of the MCU films. Yeah, the fight scene at the airport was a huge achievement in fight choreography, and had lots of everyone's favorite characters all together. But I can't help but love that elevator fight scene with Cap and the Shield agents. And the emotional core of Winter Soldier I thought was perfect. Personally, while I also really like Civil War, it's kind of all over the place in some ways.

Captain also learned something in these movies. Civil War is about taking responsability of your acts and how we face this responsability: I agree with your exposition of Tony's feels, but I think that Cap has learned that this time is now his time and just defending his past leads to break his present: 'So was I' Tony answered when Cap said 'He is my friend' and I think that until that moment Cap hadn't thought about it. I think in this movie Cap finally learned that now he has something again: it was not SHIELD, it was no Peggy, even not Bucky, all of that is past, but now he has a family that, besides, we call Avengers and for the first time, at the end of this movie and later in Infinity War, we watch a Captain leading and defending the things he loves NOW and that is the powerful conclusion of that arc beginning in 2010 when Cap answered to Fury with deep nostalgia: 'I had a date'.

Cap never changing, always being the heart of the team and the best among us, is why he's my favorite. He can't compromise. I'm excited to see how his character is challenged in Endgame. Infinity War had him refusing to trade lives. No compromise. But they lost. The next film will have him do "whatever it takes". Do we get to see his character break? Does he decide his life is the only life he's willing to trade? I can't wait to see.

I always considered Winter Soldier to be the best but I'll be damned if this video doesn't do an excellent job of making the case for Civil War by bringing up great points about the character development and how it pertained to this point in the (MCU) series.

Cap is easily the hardest character to write, kinda like Superman. People talk about Thor, but with Thor, you can just throw him against a really powerful opponent. Form a writing perspective, Cap is much harder. Russo Brothers Joe Johnston and Joss Whedon did a great job.

You get it. This man gets it. I'm still a Stark man though as Tony's character is more of a cinematic magnet. Being always good maybe right but being a flawed human is always good viewing.

When Cap said "I can do this all day" to Tony, it tore my heart out. I love these characters and the MCU, and that one line, after watching those two beat the snot out of each other, just hit so hard. I can only hope that, with Kevin Feige still in charge, the next 10 years will produce similar attachment to the new X-Men and Fantastic 4, and similarly excellent character arcs.

I do love Civil War, but personally, I loved Winter Soldier and Infinity War a lot more.

No longer having Cap and Tony moving forward is a HUGE hurdle for the MCU (so is COVID-19 and theater’s closing 😭) but even though the MCU has cultivated some great characters over the years, I can’t help but think the best years of the MCU are behind them now. I very much hope I’m wrong but in any case it’s been an incredible decade of movies that my 8 year old self never could’ve imagined. I’ve been alive for 3 1/2 decades and for 1 of those decades I got to experience a literal dream come true. That is really saying something ❣️
