The Best Faceshields in EFT! (Headset Edition) - Part 1

In today's video we'll be checking out the best face shields in Tarkov, which means we also need to look at the best helmets in the game.
Today's video is the first part of a two part series on face shields, Part 1 being those that allow the user to wear a headset, and Part 2 focussing on those that don't such as the Altyn face shield.
**CORRECTION TO THE FAST-MT: You can wear specifically the Walker's XCEL or the M32 headsets with the side armor, but not the faceshield at the same time (except the Mando mask)!
Visors that allow headsets are much lighter weight and don't protect anywhere near as well, but also don't suffer from the same issues that the larger helmets do such as limited visibility, penalites such as turn rate, move speed and ergonomics. As such, you can play more freely with the light faceshields but in turn sacrifice your protection for it.
Oh, and by the way the default keybind for putting up/down the faceshield is N on the keyboard!

The side armour for the fast mt, blocks most headsets, but you can use M32's and XCEL on them.

@@werinvanroij4523 i don't think so, the XCEL just go through the armour plate with colision issues, but this game has a lot of colision issues, especially with facecoverings + hats, and backpacks + rigs and the m32s are new (idk how old are the XCEL) so it might be a bug that the new headsets are not progammed to be stoped by the side armour

My three favorite helmets in the game: Ratnik level 3 helmet, either the camo version or just straight metallic, super cheap helmet that can be used with nvgs Ulach: good lvl 4 protection and it covers the ears (honestly wish they would add the ulach that has support for nvgs, and more colors) The altyn with a face shield: would honestly rather buy this helmet for 150k than have to spend an excessive amount for a level 4 helmet with a worse face shield just to hear things, its worth the sacrifice here imo.

Smudgy visors are the worst, how can that mechanic be justified. I could see if it were used repeatedly and so got dirty, but these are supposed to be new.

@Gigabeef I'd like to see the faceshields get in the way of ads. To counter you could fold the stock, use a specific stock that drops out of the way, this coupled with getting rid of the smudges would balance them out quite nicely. I'm referring to Lucus from Trex Arms on this idea, you seem to have some weight with your recommendations because of how articulate you are, what do you think about this? I'd love to get your opinion and dive a little further into this.

I'd like to mention that the m32 headset can be used with the FAST MT helmet with the ear protections. Pretty sure this is not intended because it looks very buggy.

Visor visibility was changed alot, they've gone from super clean to basically looking like somebody used jizz-covered sandpaper on it, and there was quite a bunch of trial n error from BSG to get it balanced. I avoided visors for a long time during that testing phase but nowadays they're in a good spot tbh.

I'm a fan of helmets that give more protection with face shield, it allows me to play more aggressively without hearing everything around me. The dampening of noise and inability to wear headset allows me to move more confidently, rely more on my sight and preserve my hearing IRL. As with headphones I'm tempted to turn up the volume to hear that faint sound of footsteps that might be coming from a nearby trashcan. Most people miss their first shot anyway if you plan out your movements/ running from cover to cover.

I would like to mention getting samples done was actually easier than expected, it took me about 5 lab raids and how cheap the keycards are now it shouldn’t be a problem as long as you have black or sanitars card

I'm glad those damn smudges bug someone else as much as they do me. A great game with a similar face mask mechanic is the metro series that has a "wipe gasmask" button. I wish I could do that in tarkov lol.

Fun fact here, the altyn helmet is a Soviet era helmet out of date by modern standards so it makes sense why it's not the best, what very few footage and testing is available on my side of the world suggests it will stop most non AP rounds but at a down side of weight, this helemt IRL is so heavy that yes it will stop that rifle round but you probably just got whip lash or a Snapped neck depending on your posture neck orientation ect, if you are a fan of this boy just hope we don't get neck hp stat, smile, would be pretty cool to have helemt weight (oh you have NVGs on heaviest helmet well I hope you don't get hit in the side of the head kinda thing) big nod to BSG in the footage I found a shot altyn face shield on both the out side and inside look very close to in-game they did there homework there

i like a video but you forgot to mention a few important things. Mandalorian helmet can be worn with ear protection on Fast MT + M32 or Xcel headset. You also didnt mention Condor eyewear, you can pair those glasses with some faceshields to gain some nasty ricochet chances. I been using Condors with Mandalorian FS and i deflect almost half of bullets going to my face even 2 in a row happened to me. Not quite sure if its not bugged or something its really strong... 3K hours in tarkov btw.

Sounds like a bug to me, maybe it adds up both of their ricochet chance instead of giving each one its separate dice-roll. Heavy bro-science on my part, but it sure sounds too good. Nice find tho!

Hmm strange - I don't think I've ever had a ricochet with the Condors but yeah the pairing might cause some funky mechanics, it could be the case. Agree on the headsets, I updated the description for this part, thanks :)

The mandalorian is surprisingly strong, plus it doest affect ypur eye sight. I've personaly seen it tank 2 rounds of bp to the face

@@Gigabeef I have had a ricochet on the condors last wipe luckiest play I've had in a long time deflected a M61 out of a DVL dude should have had me I had a pair on I picked up off a dead PMC on a scav raid I one tapped the guy with a tokarev pistol

I wouldn’t call the small Fast visor useless; if you wear LZSHs, you can spend 12k on the visor and buy some Condors and get lvl3 overall eye protection, without much impediment.

I swear by the Fast MT with Sidearmor/mandible and SLAAP. Was running interchange fighting a 4 man of Mosin men and the mandible low ricochet saved me from their onslaught of LPS GZH as did the SLAAP except that one just ate the bullet instead of bouncing. Also don't forget you can wear condor glasses for that extremely slim chance it might save you. For that whole setup you're still looking at a helmet cheaper than purchasing a class 3 visor off flea market

@@MyShortsAreWet_ Only been saved a hand full of times by it, mostly by buckshot. It's worth if you're gonna run a FAST MT tbh. Unless you're running face shield. But if you aren't, might as well have those extra chances to save yourself when using the SLAAP imo

Face shield definitely help protect my face, I usually run into guys who instantly melt me with leg meta and I keep my head in perfect condition! Although I think this is a type of survivorship bias as I only run them once in a while so the few times I die are much obvious and painful as I took the time to run the better head protection kit. If I ran them all the time I would probably start to notice all the headshots it tanks that would of ended a raid early.

Great video! Hope you’re okay with a small critique though. I’ve noticed the audio can be a bit ranged in your videos. For example, the transition noise is about normal volume, but your voice is very quiet compared to it, and now the new music is basically inaudible compared to both. I don’t know much about editing, but if there’s a simple way to clamp the range of sounds or compress them to about the volume of the transitions, it would be much more in line with average videos on youtube. Again though, thanks for the content, and hopefully you understand what I’m talking about!

you can actually use the M32 headset with the FAST MT ears armor, at least on the LZSh edit: you can also use the FAST MT ear protection with the Trooper face shield at the same time

Anybody specifically going for headshots has stuff that can pierce lvl 4, especially on Factory. This is why I generally top out my gear to lvl 3 helmets with Ear pro like Ratniks. It's just high enough to stop scavs, prevents low tier players from surprising you with shotguns from the side, and you can still get lucky stopping a front shot from something like an SMG with only Pst rounds. Face shields are a meme to me. Then again, I never make it out of a raid with more than 300k in loot, ever.

KIVER in factory is actually not all that bad theres a ton of shotguns and pistols at close range. The barter for kiver is like 12k and the face shield is 20k ish your paying the same price for a ratnik but you lose the hearing which you kinda dont need in factory. Sure your still gonna get eyesd and jawsd but the kiver is so dirt cheap I can live with that.

I far prefer to go light as I can, often dont bother with helmet at all just a shemagh or door kicker hat to break up the profile a little. Occasionally I get scav one tapped but i find that would happen now and then with or without face shield and helmet. Overall prefer to be light as I said, rarely even bothering with anything bigger than a mdss bag, class 5 armour etc

Altyn is the best helmet for protection however their are some other helmets that are level 6 eyes called the maska. And the Vulcan for level 6 head but 4 eyes jaws. Unfortunately the Altyn is the best because it provides two level 5 protections eyes jaws and the rest of the head

So I just wanted to point out that there was a bit of incorrect info featured in your video. You said “the level 2 fast visor is useless because it provides no ricochet chance”. While that is what that specific table for all face shields on the wiki says for some reason, you can check both the in-game description and the actual item’s wiki page and both will tell you that it has a low ricochet chance. This visor is actually quite useful when stacked with condors and a tac-kek because it can be used in conjunction with a slaap plate - making it the only level 5 comms-capable helmet to be able to take a faceshield. It can also be used with ears and the mandible attachment to gain additional protection. Reasoning for using tac-kek with slaap instead of fast mt with slaap: the only useful area the helmet itself protects (minus all the attachments) is the top (let’s be honest, most of the time you will not get “naped”) and if a round does manage to penetrate the level 5 slaap plate it will surely penetrate the level 4 helmet. Making it not worth the cost. ADDITIONALLY: you said the ears/mandible attachment blocks every headset in the game. That is incorrect. The m32 headset works just fine with them.

Condor, minivisor and madalorian is my way to avoid the 7mm buckshot scav. Ulach + Condor , is my standard.

After 3 wipes now I found helmets are best to just sell. You block so few shots and a ricochet is something that happens maybe 1 in 50 shots. It sucks but they are worthless. Altyn is ok but if you are better off spending that money on chest armor. If thet made ricochet chance 15% at high then sure. I end up getting 1 to 2 bullets stopped by a helmet per wipe.

i dont really get the diss on the zhs cause while it does sacrifice hearing offers the same protection but greater coverage than the aforementioned helmets at around 60k in price compared to the 120k investment of the other helmets so is it only considered bad because of hearing and ricochet chance?

@@Gigabeef ok But personally rather spend 60k for better protection over paying an extra 100-200k for a helmet that stops just about the same rounds personally I’m an avid zhs enjoyer due to me usually still being able to “hear” by having a friend to play with and I can still hear a decent distance of about 10m it’s just muffled slightly it’s also essentially my lucky helmet since I’ve bounced snipers from dome with it on of course the visor itself is basically emotional support but it has saved my dumbass from a long distance relationships between my face and a rapidly approaching bullet so no complaints here love the vid btw can’t wait for part 2

9:45 I find it very strange, to be honest with you. 10:29 I'm not sure. You see, visor, etymologically speaking, is the thing that allows you to see, and this contraption, to my mind, should severely limit visibility. 😉 And how one would be able to use it with NVG is beyond my comprehension, frankly speaking, for its eyeslit is covered with some dark coating akin to those on sunglasses, which further inhibits vision. 11:11 It's also quite bizzare to me. Haha strange stuff. The model for the exfil tan is different to the black though - black has the regular faceshield mount part but the tan one has some strange elasticated thing that looks like it wouldn't fit? Not an expert though!

terrible info/advice. Maybe its just me and things have been updated, but I can't count how many times the FAST level 2 visor has saved my life from rifle rounds. of course it isn't gonna stop anything substantial up close, it is meant for the long distance shots where the round starts to lose its velocity and power and/or buckshot

I think there are some bear breathing issues, doesn't seem to happen on usec! Hopefully will be fixed

@@Gigabeef hmm i m a USEC, when i load into the map with face shield on there is no breathing noise, but once i remove it in game and put face shield back on the noise appear.

I mean there is a breathing sound with the visor, yes. In general it's not too bad, but there is a really bad one for bear sometimes like heavy injured breathing but usec should just be normal breath

In my humble opinion, faceshields are way too overpowered in EfT. They are too strong, they allow you to aim your gun no matter what stock is used, they don't inhibit breathing and stamina - a topic well-covered in Matt Easton's recent video, - and their IRL alternative, anti-fragmentation goggles, aren't implemented properly, lacking any ballistic protection, whereas Condor glasses, which are way less protective, do have it for some strange reason.

No. They are worthless. Same with helmets. I used helmets forever then after a very long time of that I actually blocked a shot. I was like oh it shows an icon and makes ur ears ring. You will block 2 bullets in a wipe. Maybe if you run into a guy with a shotgun it will work. Anyway just sell the helmets until they buff them.

@@matthorrocks6517 Helmets are already buffed in terms of protection and ergonomics, and the only thing keeping them from being totally OP is the hitbox issue discussed in this video.

@@F1ghteR41 since when? Ill look to see if i missed patch notes as i took a break around 12.8 to 12.11. I hope so helmets are neat. Its one thing that ruined the game for me is finding out how terrible they are. Just an empty slot for me now that if i find a helmet it can fit on my head for rubbs.

@@matthorrocks6517 Maybe I'm just lucky but I have helmets save my life quite frequently. I play a good bit and I feel like I am saved by a ricochet about once every other day that I play. Its not a lot but its enough to make me run a helmet 99% of the time unless I want to wear a cool hat for aesthetics or doing a quest requiring a ushanka be worn. Any Hemet below level 2 and/or without high ricochet chance is essentially useless but even the super cheap and light Ratnik (Level 3, High Ricochet, Ear protection, headphone compatible) is worth it all the time imo. Late wipe I run ULACH or EXFIL and they have both saved my life countless times.

@@matthorrocks6517 Oh, way back before I've even started following EfT that much. From the realism point of view no helmet in the game should be above Class 4 in terms of armour protection, and wearing the heaviest of those for 40 minutes or more should impart a sort of blurry vision (or something of that nature) to represent a loss of concentration due to fatigue. The argument against it from the BSG was along the lines of what you state: that people will stop using them. However, in my opinion that in turn would make less penetrating rounds (and shotgun shells) a big deal due to their headshot potential, which would eliminate the pressure on players to rush for the best ammo possible and help some play more comfortably, without risking too much of a burnout. And for those who would like to hedge their bets the resulting lower helmet prices would be very much welcome.
