I was just looking for a video like this and you put one out. Great short review. I would add one thing with the Dualshock 4 (it's the only one I own, so I can't comment on the others), it only supports being paired to one device at time. So, if you use it with more than one device, say PC and iPad, or PS4 and iPad, etc, you'll have to pair it again, every time you change device. Otherwise it's a great controller.
The Xbox controller not having a rechargeable battery is a plus to a lot of people including my self. As this was a design choice to preserve the life of the controller. Other controllers batteries will deteriorate over time leading to the forced replacement of the controller were as the Xbox controller will never have that problem since you just replace the batteries or get a battery pack online to recharge.
The idea is great. BUT! Hear me out. The controller is 50$ and the battery pack is 25$, so 75$… The DualSense on the other hand is 60$. Ok that’s expensive… I might just use AA batteries. Hah, they can’t be recharged inside the controller with its USB cable! YOU HAVE TO USE AN EXTERNAL CHARGER IF U WANT TO USE REAGULAR AA‘s! So what’s the purpose of supporting AA‘s? Unfortunately this leads casual players to use DISPOSABLE batteries. I’m sorry, came from PS to Xbox, love it, but this point… I don’t get it… It is a half baked idea. Btw, I know only one PS Controller that lost a significant amount of battery life, it was my friends and he was a heavy user. Opened it with a screwdriver, replaced the battery with an aftermarket one… worked like a charm.
@@patatoothie This, also regular batteries are really heavy, I have small and arthritic hands and the x box controller is a bit too heavy. I was using 3rd party controllers but the button pads wear out quickly and I can't really get parts for a 3rd party device.
@@icryptorchid not sure if Afterglow is compatible. I know that besides the Switch Pro Controller, recently 8Bitdo controllers were officially supported by Apple and can work with the iPad
Have you found the right controller for Genshin if you're still playing it? I play on mobile mostly but bought a PS4 controller which it's diff to get used to. Especially during combat my movements become retarded as I need to look at the control and see which to press for the characters. Were you playing on mobile or keyboard?
@@cutiephinphinJL i still havent found a good oneee i did not know a ps4 could work tho ill keep it in mind and i play on a mobile tablet i thought it was going to be to big to hold in my hands but its really not ive had it for a month and its perfectly fine playing with and its a 12 inch tab honestly if you are having that much trouble maybe switch back to the computer or mobile thats how genshin was "meant" to be played therefore controls are better its cool but nott enough to detriment youre fun
@@cutiephinphinJL there is a learning curve if you go from touch to gamepad. If you go with an x box controller the on screen display should mirror the XYAB button layout. You can also remap the XYAB and right Bumper/trigger buttons in settings to what works for you. Not sure if the PS mapping shows up on mobile (it does on PC from what I've seen) but Nintendo's XYAB buttons mirror Xbox's and don't match up so I would avoid those. I didn't and I had to use stickers on the first controller I got, to match the UI. But generally it's easier to play with a controller, you just have to form the muscle memory for it.
To this day I don’t really get why people dislike the Xbox controllers using AA batteries. At first I was a bit thrown off, but I hope they never change this part. I love having rechargeable AA batteries so i can swap them out whenever I need to, and keep playing. I don’t have to worry about having it sit somewhere to charge or worry about the internal battery dying making the whole controller useless, or it being proprietary. I wish more things actually could use replaceable batteries now lol. 8bitdo has probably the perfect solution in their pro controllers, they include a battery pack but you can use your own batteries if it dies! Genius
I just got the x box controller and I have the opposite gripe. I have several 3rd party controllers with internal batteries and they last weeks on a single charge and you can use them while charging. I suppose the battery life should be long enough with the x box controller, but holy heck, it make it so much heavier than any of my other controllers and I'm noticing more hand strain when I play with it. I'm hoping the battery pack I ordered for it is a lot lighter than the metal incased standard AA batteries. It's a great controller, but needing replaceable AA makes it too heavy for small arthritic hands.
@@dahnleycabreros4151lithium ion batterys degrade over time so they hold shorter and shorter charge. So being able to swap battery’s will make the lifespan of your controller so much longer
I've tried a few controllers with my M1 iPad Pro. I totally agree with everything you say about the Nimbus+ controller. I quite like the 8bitdo Pro 2 controller which has grips, includes rumble support, has two additional buttons on the underside, and has fully configurable profiles via an iOS app. But my all-time favorite is the Xbox Elite Series 2 wireless controller. It is expensive, but it feels very solid and is fully configurable. It comes complete with a charging case, tool kit with replaceable d-pad and analogue thumb stick caps, adjustable thumb stick tension, and a four extra triggers for the underside of the controller. The thumb sticks and triggers are very responsive and feel more precise compared with the other controllers I have used.
Since getting a PS5 I find myself just using remote play rather than iPad games and the spare DualSense I got with the console has become my go to. It is a bit of a pain for travelling though.
I’m actually using my Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for both my iPhone 14 and my M4 iPad Pro.. Works really well on both COD Mobile and Warzone Mobile..
I have noticed the same thing, and it affects audio for the AirPods too. I generally plug my controller into the side if I want to use my headphones, but once the battery starts to go then you have to unplug for recharging. If you have the Magic Keyboard, then you can charge and connect the controller physically at the same time, but not everyone has a $300 accessory (which I only have because I got mine at a discount, pre-owned) to make such a thing possible.
First Nimbus I bought developed severe joy-con drift in the left stick and some in the right. Went through the support process and got a new one for free. Now the second one is starting to develop drift in the right stick. I'll have to see if I can get a Bluetooth Xbox controller now and use the Nimbus as a backup.
My nimbus also has severe drift in the left controller. Cleaned it with a bit of rubbing alcohol and let it dry for a day. Plus rebooted my iPad and it fixed the problem. However, the nimbus does disconnect itself from the iPad quite a bit. Usually right before I finish beating a boss or hypostasis in Genshin. 😑
Thank you for your video. Accurately captured my experience with 8BitDo controller and Xbox. I recently bought the Xbox controller based on your review so I could play genshin and it feels great to use. 8BitDo often ruins the bluetooth connection (causes lags on movement for genshin) when I try to connect my airpods and apple pencil. With the Xbox, I don't have that warning on my bluetooth connections ☺️
I bought an 8bitdo pro 2 controller just a few weeks ago, its one of the best budget controller the thing I don't like about it is the paddles on the back is useless because it doesn't support ios/ipados for now
The best controller for iPad gaming in my opinion is the Xbox elite series 2 core because of the rechargeable battery, 40 hours of battery life and because you can use it on mac, windows and ios.
I honestly love the gamesir T4 pro but sometimes I see the Bluetooth connectivity dropping and it’s hard to play when your fighting in Genshin. But it works fine when I connect it to my switch. I might try the 8bitdo pro 2
fun fact, i have all most controllers u mentioned and my opinion is by far the best controller is the SteelSeries for the ipad. the bluetooth connectivity lag is near to 0 (the only controller u mentioned from ur list that is MFi) and is the most comfortable controller i have ever held. lol xbox controllers (I have like for 4 controllers including the elite 1 and 2) are very laggy on Bluetooth, i dont know why you would recommend them.
the 8bitdo lite doesnt seem to be listed as compatible with ios. did you need to do anything out of the ordinary to make it work for ipad and, if so, does the controller lose out on any functionality?
Thanks for the comparison. Helped me a lot! I'm off to the nearest tech store to get me an XBox controller. PS: I love that the iconic landmark of my home town is in almost all of your videos. :D
@@Lakaizinho I use my 8bitDo Pro 2 with my iPad Air 5 all the time, just keep in mind a couple of things. Firstly, 8bitDo claims that the controller is not compatible with iPhone or iPad, just MacOS, but that is incorrect so don’t let that dissuade you. Just put it in Mac Mode (the A marker on the toggle switch) and it works fine. Secondly, iOS/Mac mode does not allow for button configuration unfortunately but in most cases this is fine; however, there is some weirdness involved. Pairing it with your iPad with Bluetooth will interpret the device as a PS controller, while plugging it directly into the iPad will make it think it is an Xbox controller. With both modes, there isn’t an analogue on the controller for the “Touchpad” on Dualshock/sense or “Change View” button on the Xbox controllers, so if there’s a game that requires those for anything (like Genshin Impact shown in this video, which uses those to activate in-game chat and deleting items in your in-game housing) it won’t work. Also you will need to remember that the Pro 2’s button layout is ABXY “Nintendo style” and not Xbox’s mirrored ABXY layout. If you know your PS button layouts by heart then using it on Bluetooth and getting PS button icons in-game won’t be too difficult to parse. Some of this may not matter though, because thirdly…iOS/iPadOS 16 will be incorporating Switch controller support soon! The Switch controller output on the Pro 2 supports button remapping via PC or the mobile app, so you can assign controls to the paddles on the back and the Star/Heart buttons on the face, and I am sure that when the Switch support is added then games will incorporate support shortly after so anything needing that touchpad or change view button won’t matter after and can just use the good ol’ select button. To sum it up, you can get an 8bitDo Pro 2 right now and it’ll work pretty great with your M1 iPad, and in a few months with iPadOS 16 it’ll go from a 95% package to a 100% package. It’s my favorite game controller I have ever used and it’s much more affordable than first-party offerings from every game console company.
Hi, due to health I wasn't able to celebrate Christmas with my son this year and we are celebrating this January. I'm looking into getting him a tablet so he can play Minecraft and I really want to get him a controller so he can get the best gameplay experience. I'm really interested in the 2nd controller you reviewed, but I'm planning on buying an ANDROID tablet. Do you know if it would be compatible? Or does it have to be an ipad? Hopefully you'll see this and I'll get an idea what I should buy before I order it 🤞
Hey man, I play on table with ps5 controller but some games that have controller compatibility don't work with it. Like I can only jump and nothing else works 😢
With an xbox controller - What App would you use for Mapping games that dose not support controllers? ShootingPluds V3 dose not seem to support Xbox controllers...
i have ethe 8bitdo lite 2, and its the worst. it does not maintain a charge whatsoever, so every single time i go to use it, it's dead. and worse, the shoulder buttons don't maintain input when held. this is especially problematic in games like minecraft, where its impossible to mine or cut down a tree. i also have the 8bitdo sn30 pro and its pretty good. since apple will be forced to allow side-loading soon (at least in the EU) i'm excited for emalation gaming!
I have a problem so I bough a ps4 controller dualshock 4 for playing on my iPad but when I try to connect it the "controller" option don’t show up is it because of my iPad? Cuz it’s a mini iPad 6th generation or is it because of something else idk but it bother me a lot I might even think about getting a new iPad to see it the problems can be resolved Btw if anyone can help I’ll take every advices anyways have a great day y’all I’m personally in pain-.....
This is not the latest Apple iPad, but it is faster than I thought. It has a great screen and it holds a charge pretty well ru-vid.comUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U . I was concerned that it would not be powerful enough because I have several older iPads that are slow and cannot update to the latest software. But this 10th Gen has the speed and power. I do not use it for video editing, so having an M2 processor is not necessary for me. This iPad model has an A14 processor. So far so good. Glad I bought it. It helps having a larger screen compared to my Apple phone.
Xbox controller has no dpad, pretty bad for retro games. 4 buttons don't count. Fighting games is out of the question. Playstation controllers are just ok. Still, both Xbox and PlayStation controllers have no turbo function, terrible for Shoot'em ups and Run&guns. The best controller right now should be the 8bitdo SN30 Pro 2 and it's cheaper with a lot more features and customization.
I bought an Xbox controller so I could play Genshin with ease, because after some months of playing by touch screen my hands started cramping during longer sessions. I think if you already have a Switch then getting used to it is not an issue; meanwhile I returned a PS4 controller because I literally could not get used to the layout. My one gripe about the Xbox controller is that the buttons are WAY too noisy, my sister could hear it from the next room with the doors closed. What I ended up doing was to put tiny tape pieces on the buttons when I opened it to customise it.
Oooh that’s interesting. I usually just play at home but sometimes I like playing at other places. I did think the Xbox controller buttons were loud but I didn’t have anything to compare it to. Do you feel like it’s definitely louder than it’s competition?
@@ctran1955 Hey, I’ve only tried the PS4 controller (since switch alternatives don’t work with it) but yes the Xbox is definitely louder than the PS ones, but so much easier to use. I’ve used it for months now though and the noise has gotten better. I would suggest opening the controller and putting some sort of material between the buttons and the black plastic board they make contact with, something sticky on just one side. I’ve also read people removing the plastic buttons and swapping them for metal/steel ones!
Please someone answer me...Can I play with a controller Genshin on Ipad without having a ps? Because I know I could do it with COD mobile, but can I do it with other games? If yes, can you tell me what games?
How are you able to play Genshin using a controlling with Ipad? I thought it was not possible 😮😮 How? I need help here.. I have a Ipad Pro and I have been trying to connect a Gamesir T4 pro controller with no results. I am thinking about buying a new controller but now I am confuse about what should I buy. Sorry for my bad English I am still learning.
@@ByteReview Oh I see! I'll try 💪🏻 I have a Ipad Pro 5th generation and I am looking for controllers. Do you have any recommendation? Thanks for your content!
While I am not much of a gamer, I do like to occasionally use a controller. I use the Xbox controller and agree with the compatibility as stated in the video. Thanks for the great video!
As someone who has a ps5, all my games I play with it the buttons are registered as “Xbox buttons” (a b x y) instead of the shapes, I’m getting an Xbox controller just for my iPad😭
Great video! I definitely agree that the iPad is a wonderful gaming machine, and that iOS / iPad OS in general is an amazing gaming platform. I have also struggled to find good controllers for the iPad as pairing most of the ones I have tried is a nightmare… for me personally I just use a cheap MFi certified one for just that reason, even if it feels pretty poor. I would love to use my PS5 controller but I struggle to pair it with the iPad without also triggering my actual PS5 to booting up. Regardless, a great perk of the XBox and PS series controllers is the ability to customize them, either with new shells and some tinkering or via Colorware!
