Just the Mega CD support made it well worth the upgrade for me. MSU-MD is great, specially the Dean Harris Road Rash soundtrack, puts it on another level.
Last I heard via his Twitter, he had moved his team out of Ukraine and was making more. Not sure why they're not selling any yet but some FPGA's and parts are super expensive with the chip shortages.
Just Purchased an Everdrive x7 for my N64, Amazing piece of kit. 3 weeks Delivery time here in the UK. Direct from Krikzz Store for $175. A bit more expensive now but still worth every penny. 👍
Treated myself to one of these last month and damn, it's amazing. I've been re-enjoying many CD titles I haven't played in years, really quick, simple and so convenient.
The fact it can play MD+ files through the newest update is a game changer. While I love MSU-MD Krikzz was singlehandedly converting the games to the format and combined with MSU-MD being a newer format there are more MS+ games online.
@@andrewparker470 does the Mega SD still fail on the part of the Mega CD/Sega CD hardware test that the Mega Everdrive Pro passes? Or has TerraOnion since released a firmware update that makes its Mega CD/Sega CD core accurate enough to fully pass the test?
I am still rocking the X7 Everdrive I got on Black Friday one year and it came with the clamshell case. I have thought about getting the Pro but the obvious thing is the price.
I've been getting back into the SEGA Genesis for the last year and a half, basically since I found out that my SEGA Genesis and games from the 90s were hiding in my parents' garage attic. I've been exploring the library, especially games I missed as a kid. Eventually I want to get an Everdrive for either Genesis or SNES, but the big thing I want to be able to do is play WWF WrestleFest on original hardware. I know, it was an arcade game, but what I mean is to be able to play it on the hardware I owned from that era...to play it on my own CRT at home, with a Genesis controller (SNES would be fine, too). Have the Genesis or SNES Everdrives advanced enough yet to be able to do that? I imagine the Genesis would have the color limitation problem to tackle, and the SNES would struggle with sprite counts--unless something inside the Everdrive was assisting, and making up the difference (the same way games like Virtua Racing or Castlevania 3 had their own accessory chips). Once I can play my 1989-1992 arcade favorites on a SNES or Genesis, I'll consider myself set for life. It may sound arbitrary or odd, but that's the "ultimate" in my mind.
I love my MDP. Being able to play Sega CD without fighting with building the tower of power is so very handy. Didn't know about the firmware, will have to update mine.
Just got the Mega Everdrive Pro amidst the shortage a few weeks ago (first time owning a genesis as well). Chunked out for a 512gb micro card. So much to put on this cart, master system library, genesis library, sega cd, etc... and now nes, now that it has a core. This has been my most versatile cart and interesting to explore (since I haven't experienced most genesis games). I also have FXPak Pro, N8 Pro, Everdrive 64, and now need the Everdrive GBA mini for when my analogue pocket comes in later this year.
It already had the NES core, it's just been improved. It also has the SVP and YM2413 cores for Virtua Racing and Master System FM sound (respectively) although they were brought to the X7 as well. If you like, check out MSU-MD and/or MD+ CD-quality music-patched Genesis games, as well as MegaColor video (which can play anything from short clips to feature-length movies as long as you split them into 45-minute parts). Finally, if it's your thing, check out MegaDoom, a port of Doom for the Mega Everdrive Pro's FPGA that displays its graphics as streamed MegaColor video. And of course, as part of loading standard Genesis games, you can run hacks and homebrew if you want.
@@RWL2012 Youre right. I've played nes on the 64. I meant FPGA. Hardware, not software emulation implementation. [Reply to (edited)]: Did not know that regarding SVP and YM2413 cores. Thank you. Glad I have a half tera to explore even more [Reply to (edited) 2: Thank you sir, I am new to this information due to unfamiliarity. I had no idea. Ive always implented hacks in all my carts. But this is another level.
Man I'm glad I got the N64 everdrive x7 a while ago! Seems like it's hard to find them in stock. I'd rather do this than buy every og cartridge now haha
I see that the EDP supports 32x AND sega cd ...does anyone know if it can play either one while the 32x is installed? I used to have a terraonion mega sd and the cd games wouldnt show up if the 32x was installed so i would have to uninstall it and uninstall it depending on what i wanted to play. If this cam play anything without that hassle, i would be up for that
yeah man , flash carts are the only way some of us are able to play certain games on the REAL Consoles, and I use mine particularly to play romHacks. I collect the rom hacks and put together libraries so that I can own all the different versions of each game.
To expand on this, wouldn't it be safe to say some of the developers of rom- hacks or TCmods put as much or maybe even more heart into their projects? I know because things like Enderal and Harkinian exist. Doom tc mods and poke hacks go without mentioning... so yes I think these games are equally worthy of physical releases.
The MegaColor video player may not be "productive" (relative to playing games) but uniq games did quite an impressive thing with it, discovering the hidden ability of the Mega Drive / Genesis' VDP / graphics chip that made it possible after 32 years! He later did a port of Doom for the Mega Everdrive Pro's FPGA called megadoom that displays the graphics as streamed MegaColor video.
What I'm still confused about is how Sega CD works without a physical Sega CD console and it's still not considered emulation. I've only looked a little into FPGA. So there is actually some Sega CD hardware built-in to the Everdrive Cart?
From what I understand, the FPGA is designed to reprogram itself on the fly to be whatever it needs to be. The FPGA chip itself becomes a clone of the Sega CD hardware in order to run Sega CD games.
Yes fpga implementations are still in my opinion a form of emulation... Despite what some will say. But with it simulating the hardware by reprogramming itself to mimic it, the timing etc it can be very accurate. So with Sega CD its a really good implementation that allows those games to run pretty much perfectly like they would with an actual disc and CD addon. And the Sega CD still relies on the Genesis hardware so its not like it has to implement the entire hardware.
I almost think its a RU-vid thing, I noticed with a couple videos ive uploaded a single audio pop in the begining but in my editing software it doesnt exist and the exported file I upload to RU-vid doesnt do it.
@@Madlittlepixel I've been watching your videos for a while now and it wasn't an issue before. Might be a RU-vid thing like you said if you haven't changed your set up or settings recently. Not a big deal, just something I noticed. Keep up the good work.
I wonder if technically the fpga could emulate an entire Snes on the cart and feed the video output through the genesis the same way the video player does! I'd love to play me some Chrono Trigger, FF6 and Donkey Kong Country on my Genesis!
I currently have the X5 and a MiSTer. its the fact I have a MiSTer that makes me hesitant to buy some of these flash carts. Like, I really want to get the one for the super nintendo, so I can play starfox 2 on a real SNES. But I just dont have the money.
I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to setup a Sega Mega Everdrive Pro for the Sega CD. I copied the games and the BIOS for all the regions but can not get the games working. Maybe you can do a video showing how to do it. If you can I would greatly appreciate it.
Really wish we'd get an age where you can get an Everdrive for >$100 haha...I cry ever time I see the price tags for them. And, granted, these are definetly quality products packed with many features and play almost the entire libraries of their respective consoles. But pair the base price with shipping (and in some cases import fees) and...yeah...it ain't pretty for a Hungarian, to say the least.
Every emulator I’ve bought these past few years… even after watching good reviews on RU-vid… have always had slight lag/latency issue which makes them totally frustrating to play. Can the people in the comments recommend best setup so I can play games as if they were played on actual megadrive back in the day? Thanks in advance 🙏🏼
I'd love one of these. Currently I have a Japanese MD and a hacked Playstation Classic, I only recently discovered how great Road Rash is when overclocked. Do these carts allow overclocking, do I don't have to take the console apart?
Honest question, is it illegal to get all those games? Where do these game files come from? Has anyone ever been sued over having games in this way? Curious what every one knows about this. I've always only played the original carts.
It's an (A)rray of logic (G)ates that's (F)ield-(P)rogrammable, so the chip can be programmed to function exactly like the original hardware's logic, depending on how well-written the core is (rather than software-based emulation, which runs as a translation layer on a CPU of a different architecture). The functionality of the FPGA Mega CD / Sega CD's CPU, RAM, graphics and sound chips in FPGA, works in conjunction with the ones in the Mega Drive / Genesis in the form of the original chips (the games use both, some to different extents than others). I believe the game sees both the console and add-on hardware as normal, but doesn't realise that the add-on is an FPGA computationally with a microSD interface for storage.
I guess FPGA still uses some sort of actual hardware that's more accurate than emulation, even if technically speaking, it is still emulating the hardware.
Me: "This is freaking amazing! I can load all kinds of crazy hacked games and just have a ball. My Genesis is about to get a 2nd life!" Me after seeing the price: "PC emulation it is." [p.s. this thing seems to be 100% sold out, so it kinda doesn't matter]
