Thank you for this method. I’ve tried to catch walleye with repeatability every way possible. Three weeks ago I stumbled on your video, and went and bought 2 f7 flatfish and rigged up like you showed. In 6 trips I have boated 25 keepers here in Indiana. Never in my 65 yrs. have I had that much fun. Let’s mention that this rig also catches all the different fish in the lake. Thanks again, gone fishin..

The Apex 'flasher' is a similar attractor to the Flatfish and specifically set-up to be the attractor, in several color patterns. AND HOLY COW!!! I'm getting a dozen crawlers for $12. That's so outrageous, my oldest grandson is trying to set up a worm farm. I just taught him how to use a chopsaw safely, and sold his step dad a brand new sliding chopsaw I hadn't yet used (for 4 years!!! I do have 3 others), so after spending a week with me this summer, and seeing the cost of crawlers, he figures there's a buck in this trade. And for your friend, fear not, we live on Vanc Island. Maybe my grandson will sell me some of his worms at a discount.
@Bowfella
@Bowfella 3 года назад
This is actually pretty genius. With a regular walleye worm harness you need a bottom bouncer, which is great for deep water. But when they're in the shallow water I'm restricted to lures and spoons, which work great but only when they're aggressive. Definitely going to give this a try!!

Love it.... My dad ran that rig for years here in Michigan.... Really works well in the spring time in small Rivers that walleyes come up to spawn.... Same set up but he ran a small treble then to a Snell the leader of the flat fish was about 8-10" of 12-14lb trilene and a good ball bearing swivel.

OMG!!! Somebody who LIKES mono in this day & age! I've tried flourocarbon on a spinning reel & a spin-caster. DISASTER! For me, leaders only. I've used and still do for many reasons, braids/fused lines. Yet, they will dig deep into the spool when pulling off a snag, and the next cast might cost a lost lure or at best an ugly backlash or ripping the lure out of your potential fish, but there are real benefits to that type of line. I do love mono, co-polys and some 100% nylons but on a metal arbor only.. The entire reason for graphite or boron rods was to give greater sensitivity when "fish-on" using nylon/co-polys. Flouro "sinks". Well you can get "sinking" co-polys. "Braids Float", well you can get 'floating' monos. 'Mono 'stretches too much'. A lot of mono co-polies stretch very little, and I like some stretch. (However, halibut at 350' deep, most certainly I do prefer 'braid/fused' lines) Good video.

Slow trolling up and downstream, 1mph or less. My question is does the flatfish have a typical diving depth or will it run higher than the sinker?

Good video. The "industry" is crooked. I'm talking about the manufacturers and those promoting them. There are many very good lures that, suddenly, are not good anymore. This according to them. Yes, there are new lures that are very good and the technology helps with that. But how come some lures like the flatfish, and the daredevil are not good lures anymore today? They still are and you will catch fish with those. Thank you for this video because you're also addressing this very important point I'm talking about.
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors 2 года назад
Yes, thanks for adding that in. One thing to consider is that many "Pros" really need to move the needle of selling a product. So many great ways to catch fish involve live bait. Most live bait techniques don't sell products. So when a "Pro" tells you this or that is the best way to catch a walleye/bass, this "Pro" may have other motivations than just helping you catch more fish.
@DiabloOutdoors
@DiabloOutdoors 2 года назад
@@KnettersPracticalOutdoors So true...I had an argument with one of them. He got real mad, publicly, when I addressed that and told the truth. Interesting concept. I'm fishing Columbia River, downstream with the current most of the time. Current runs 1-2.5 mph. Try to troll just faster than the current. Wonder how this flatfish would act in current situations?

What kind of depths are you getting and how much line out ?
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors
@KnettersPracticalOutdoors 4 года назад
Well, I usually add a little weight to the set-up (1/8 oz split shot). That along with the crawler makes the Flatfish sink very slowly. So now my depth is very speed dependent. If I am trolling, I might be letting out 100 feet to get down 4 feet. If I am wind drifting (slower) it might be 50 feet out to get 4 feet down. When I wind drift, I am always experimenting because the speed is never exactly the same. Thanks for watching, KPO.

@KnettersPracticalOutdoors 3 года назад
@@terrinator133 When I need to cast these Flatfish I just pinch on a split shot sinker. One that is big enough to get it out there. When you bank fish do you have a lot of shoreline to roam and cast or are you religated to a small area like a boat launch? If I were bank fishing and I didn't have a large amount of shoreline to work with, I would probably try some bobber or slip sinker livebait set up. Crawler, leech or minnow on a slip bobber or slip sinker. Also make sure you are fishing areas that walleyes are commonly caught. You might be on the bank of a good walleye lake, but the area you can reach from shore may not hold walleyes very often. Check with a local baitshops or experienced fisherman to get some ideas on where to fish for walleyes from shore. Or drive around and see where others are fishing. Maybe you could even purchase some fishing maps for the areas you fish and definely check the internet for local chat rooms on the fishing by you. Let me know how your fishing is going, KPO.

The only thing I'm wondering is why so many people use flat fish??? I've never caught a single fish on them. I've casted them thousands of times and trolled them for tens of miles. Doesn't matter the colour, doesn't matter what speed, doesn't matter how aggressive the fish are. I'll be landing smallies, walleye, or white bass left and right on Little Cleos or mepps, then I try the flatfish and NOTHING. It makes no sense! They look and move really well but they just don't attract any fish no matter how hungry
