The grit guard is great to seperate the mitt from the dirt on the bottom. I don't use it to rub the mitt at all. Especially for ONR washes. I'll finish a wash, refill the bucket with fresh ONR then leave the BRS in the clean solution covered.

Scott, what you need is an electric self-propelled wash bucket bot that has a track propulsion system that will follow you around on any terrain as you're washing a car. Oh, and you'll need two: one for the soap bucket and one for the rinse bucket. You'll be able to program the thing remotely with your phone. This will definitely impress your customers with the fact that you are fully on board with the high-tech evolution of modern business.

After watching your video I decided to do research to see about this. I have actually found multiple sources that say this new, no bucket method is being taught to many detailers and is catching on, more so in Australia, but it is only a matter of time before it gets huge in the states. Your multiple wash mitts method, the phrase they used, is very good. Some state that the foaming is not truly useful at all but to still do the multiple mitts. Others say the foam is great lubrication for your mitts. I am someone who has detailed cars, out of pure enjoyment. I really like doing it and it calms me when drafting and architecture get annoying and I need a few hours break. I am glad I saw your video before buying useless buckets and all that. I am starting a detailing company on the side for the days drafting is slow. Your video was very, very helpful. Liked and subscribed.

Brilliant! I'd come to the same conclusion, but lacked implementation. When I was younger/cheaper, I made my own "grit guard" from those square fluorescent tube panels used in drop ceilings. A couple bucks bought a panel that would make several grit holders. You're spot on about swirling the water and bringing up the dirt. That's why I abandoned the light panels and went to the real deal. Same problem. Then I noticed that organic matter (leaves or worse, nut dust - I have live oak trees and the nuts often shatter when they hit the concrete driveway) would float in the rinse and wash water. Grit Guard does nothing to get those out of your mit, and trust me, that organic crap can be just as marring/scratching/swirling as the sand and other road dirt the grit guard might stop (if you didn't agitate the dirt up off the bottom when dunking the mit). My grit guards and buckets are going to become Christmas gifts to a fellow car club member. :D

Great video...the only change I would recommend for this process is to first wash off the initial snow foam and then do a second snow foam for when you use the multi-microfiber wipe down. Think of it this way, the initial snow foam will contain numerous dust particles that can potentially scratch your paint; however, that risk is minimized by adding a second snow foam for a mitt wipe down!

You don't need $20 in buckets only need $200 in wash mitts

What you are saying makes sense. I work for SERVPRO and we are taught when wiping down walls on smoke damage to dip your towel once and fold it in fourths. Wipe then flip, wipe, flip etc. then on to a new towel. I watch AmmoNyc for his over the top ocd approach to detailing and combine it with your no nonsense approach. Like you say, it’s all what works for you. Thanks for sharing Scott!

Agree, this was funny. Thanks for sharing your insight and can always go for a good rant. I'd actually love a series from you that included proper wash technique, dry technique, wax/polish technique and maybe interior detailing. But only if you continue providing those sweet sweet 1 liners!

I always used 2 buckets with grit guards and have never seen a scratch on my cars or my customers cars. My last car was black, which shows scratches and swirls really easily and was spotless. Washed it every 2 weeks and only waxed twice a year. I also paid $30 for the buckets, 1 mitt and the grit guards. 1 good quality wash mitt goes for about $7 and up where I am. Buying 5 more of them would cost more for me than the 2 buckets and grit guards. Though I don’t doubt in any way that your way is safe and won’t scratch the paint I think it just comes down to preference on what method to use

You’re talking about $35 dollars to not have to deal with 2 heavy buckets of dirty water and a lot of wasted soap for the rest of your life. I’m not a smart man but I’d recommend doing the math on this over the longer run.

Also yes. The 6 wash mitts will last you the rest of your life.
