This incident caused twitch being only one new york times or guardian article away from another addpocalypse that will again mostly affect the average streamer... If Twitch doesnt react by first of all permanently banning Sliker, but second of all doing something - i dont care what it is - about casino and gambling streams, they will be in big trouble. This brought way too much of attention to simply ignore the issue.

@bomber9912 Год назад
@@khairusplays I think the average twitch employee knows how bad the situation is. Not only with gambling streams, but how they treat streamers in general. But i believe that these people do not have an influence on the platform anymore. Twitch and their decisions have been more and more guided by corporate interests rather than whats good for this eco system as a whole throughout the years. They dont listen to the consumer, they dont listen to the content creators, they put in features that nobody needs nor asked for, while not implementing things that should be crucial for streaming like a basic rewind function - something youtube had since forever. They milk the people who create the revenue for them by taking 90% of the ad revenue. Then they lowered the costs of subscriptions with the promise that it would be more affordable, but instead people didnt subscribe more and Amazon keeps a bigger cut from prime memberships, which is now getting even more expensive, while streamers dont see a single dime from this increase. I think the only way Twitch will actually change is by getting massive financial losses.

@@nicolaspace1182 The difference is in the reaction. A scammer needs to go to prison to learn that leeching off society yields punishment. @neo_child
@neo_child Год назад
When Asmon said "I don't sympathize with him", I totally agree. If he were scamming people for money, sure, that's one thing. But then there's the clip of Trainwrecks who, randomly out of the kindness in his heart, decided to instead of consolidating his debt, Trainwrecks would just give him a flat sum to pay it all off. No one would do this for free to someone they barely know. NO ONE. And Sliker went BACK to Trainwrecks to ask for more. He was given, not one, but two chances to stop. He was given 2 rare "Get Out Of Jail Free" card to get out of a gambling debt and squandered both of it. He knew his problem, he knew his debts, and he STILL tried to scam for his addiction. Yes, he should get help. Yes, if I personally knew Sliker, I would sympathize and try to help him get out of the addiction. But that is where my sympathy stops. I will not forgive him for scamming people. Helping him out of a bad addiction is one thing, trying to downplay the seriousness of his crime and passing it off as "It wasn't you doing it, it was the addiction" is another.

@@rasmachris94 well there is a difference between screwing somebody over for addiction and self gain. Sliker gained nothing from hurting others. He actively hurt his own freinds and people he cared about and repeatdly gambled it away. That goes beyond being a bad person. You cant compare him to some1 who uses the money to buy a big house and a car. He directly suffered the worst out of any of his victims. Allmost could be considered self-harm. At that point you have to understand sliker was clearly mentally not right. No sane human being would do what he did. Locking him away will not discourage others from doing it as he clearly was not aware of what he was doing in the first place. Punishment isnt the right solution to this. Therapy is.

This is the attitude you need to have with addicts who cross the line of stealing/scamming. Once they cross that line, there’s no going back over it, and will keep scamming and stealing until it’s no possible, either because they are incarcerated or are in a forced rehab situation. Speaking from experience with family that were/are addicts, a cousin who is a chronic heroin addict for the past 20 years that scammed and stole from family who, after 20 years of this and refusing rehab, has long since been disowned. An uncle was a gambling addict, he tried scamming but was called out and made to go to rehab. Even after he got out, his wife was in control of all the finances, because he couldn’t be trusted. So yeah, addicts can have sympathy/empathy, but don’t be naive and blind to who they hurt and absolve them of wrong doing, cause they’ll just turn around and keep doing it

no there is not. people with gambling addiction turn to friends and family all the time to "scam them" to try and win back money the lost. they ask for money for bills or food ow what ever. go gamble. they most likely lose it. then those people get mad never getting repayed. this is how they lose friends and family this is why gambling addiction is a issue. not just losing money. they turn to lying to friends and family to gamble more.

Empathy and Gullibility are two different things. its one thing to help but theres MANY ways to help...and being empathically realistic. It is a thing...or being someones crutch or enabler. Being just as irresponsible as the addict is a thing, so coming from someone who would give you a kidney...Ill give my time, or food or clothes, whatever; but money is a risk cus it can be used however and you will have no idea. So be a little more closed lip on your wallet...being generous is one thing but be sure you know everything. At this point Slickr...he needs help, not money...he needs a totally different support you are not obligated to give to once so ever. Slickr needs to handle his own life...I wont condemn him to death. Death will let him off scott free, he needs help which is beyond me or maybe anyone. Tldr for those who wont...just becarefull with your money, you dont need to give people money to be a understanding, and caring person.

The people making the excuse for him being a "gambling addict" Seem to forget that not only is he a grown man that should know right from wrong but he took money in a calculated way. He picked his targets and asked them not to say anything. He did this knowing that he will be able take money from as many people as possible before getting caught. There might be up to 100 victims... maybe more. And one that we know of is a cancer patient that needed the money. Even throughout all of this he continued to steal. And didn't have any actual plan to pay them all back. Why should I care or anyone else what happens to him after he didn't care what happens to up to 100 people??? Due to his issues and his problems. Why is it okay to forgive him for inflicting pain on up to 100 people 🤔 Sliker should be arrested for this and forgotten. If you think you're being a good person for caring about Sliker... I'd prefer to care about the 100 innocent people that thought they were doing a good thing over 1 person that did a calculated theft on those innocent people

I think the reason people empathise with Sliker in this situation is that they know his face or have interacted with him previously whereas those who have be defrauded aren't known to 99% of the people that know Sliker. I think getting caught is the best thing to happen to him for two reasons. The first being that hopefully more people are aware that he was scamming people and the second being that if other content creators were scamming viewers, they'd know more of what an online scam looks like.

Mental health should definitely never be an excuse when others are effected by it. When a person diagnosed with bipolar enters a manic state there's a high likelihood they will become violent in their dissociated state, so the police are called and they are removed from the situation for treatment. I think the same should be said about a person who has a severe gambling addiction who commits fraud and scams people out of their money, whether the action is taken by Twitch or the authorities. If Slicker truly needs the help he needs then he needs to remove himself from his situation with all of his risk factors around him that will make him slip back into his prior behavior.

The people expressing the need for sympathy for whatever reason are not only on some sort of holier than thou perversion, but you're not helping slicker either. Nee, worse, you are adding to the fire. Persons running these types of scams to support these kinds of lifestyles FEED off of your sympathy and agreeableness. Your sympathy will do nothing but make you yet another victim in the long run.

There is nothing wrong with having empathy for someone with a gambling addiction. It doesn't mean you don't have empathy for his victims and it doesn't mean you don't think he's a piece of shit for what he's done. None of those things are mutually exclusive. All of those beliefs can exist at the same time with no problem. He needs help, but concern for him does come secondary right now to the people he victimized. They need to have their money returned. He probably should face charges. I'm not convinced that he is at rock bottom and he will probably do this again.

That's something people don't usually think about, it's good to give second chances to people that makes mistakes, but for every second chance given, someone who is actually innocent and never hurt anyone will become a victim of your second chances, this world don't care about victims, victims don't get on the news. People don't do things without getting anything back, unfortunately helping victims don't make news and make you look good on social media, but giving second chances to criminals makes you look like a saint and is news worthy, this world is a joke.
