Diversity In Comics talks a lot about SJW writing and one of the big things he criticises that really resonates with me is how they constantly portray women as constantly emotionally validating each other. Page after page of emotional validation, eliminating all drama and stakes between the main cast. It's a really shitty habit for a writer to get into.

My favorite thing about the previews for this dumb show was that it tried to be empowering and feminist while one of the early plot points was one of the girls meeting a hot guy who *disrespects her profession by calling her at work to make sexual comments.* It's really annoying how they played the whole hijab thing. She's a conventionally attractive woman and she seems to be wearing full makeup and is dressed nicely. "I wear it to reject society's expectations despite taking every step to meet those expectations below my hairline."

Token chick's story is a classic example of a 5 year old child being warned not to run into the frozen lake, only to fall flat on her face when she steps foot in it. long story short, when your show's protagonists are 15 year olds in 20 year old's bodies who dress like how women don't dress in a workplace (unless they are sex workers), that's a sign of a show you don't take seriously. I was waiting for someone to review this.

Scarlet supposedly has a circulation of 3 million. I find it hilarious that the show couldn't break over 600k throughout the whole 4 previous seasons of the show. This show was nominated for Teen Choice Awards for 3 years running. Makes sense that most of their viewers are under the age of 15
Thanks god... Some real critique to this show, I don't know why everybody is so crazy about it. I saw it only, and purely as a fashion show (a couple of chapters). Then every thing there seems so pretentions, so entitled (not feminist, just entitled), all the relashionship is super trivial, shallow, and everyones seems to be using each other for they own shit. The 'girls' conversations is each one of them just listing the shit they are doing and : 'omg girl, that's so sad, that's so good...'.
... They just... outright say ''I want to know where he is and what hes doing right now" and they're not even together, in fact broken up... and im guessing its because she's fuckin controlling and possessive...
I just couldn't get past the first episode and all I find online was praise. I seriously refused to believe I was the only one who thinks this is a basic show with annoying privileged girls doing a disservice to feminism and other causes.

The program director, lead writer of this show and most of the writers are women. So basically a diverse table of white women were pretty confident this show was it. They got paid for 4 seasons, so evidently they know their target audience.

A Muslim woman saying she chooses to wear a hijab even when she's outside of an oppressive society that forces her to wear it is kinda like a slave choosing to continue to wear iron chains even after they've been released from slavery. Is she choosing to represent the symbol of her oppression to signify that she is no longer oppressed? Isn't that way of thinking kinda backwards?
Amber Richardson I love this video (and literally all of her stuff) but I genuinely I like this show too :) It’s not perfect and sometimes the virtue-signaling is def over the top but it’s pretty entertaining. I think the acting and the chemistry between the cast gets a lot better as it goes along, I don’t take the show too seriously though so maybe that’s why I like it and can easily get past the sometimes stupid/in your face plot points. Anyway I’m glad someone mentioned they like the show and also like JLs roast of it, her subs are seriously the best kind of ppl

1:30 I just found this review now, and I have to say, they don't even bother trying to make this look like NYC, since that's obviously the Toronto subway! They didn't even use stock footage or something! No, just slap a NYC-style 59 St sign on the wall and expect no one will notice. At least other shows/movie put some effort into it.
