The Boys: INSUFFERABLY WOKE Now? | Show Review 

Two seasons of building Frenchie's relationship with Kimiko only for a random guy to pop up and BOOM he's gay now.

I think Erin Moriarty is the perfect metaphor for this show: She was a stunning young lady, but she allowed some disgusting people to get into her head, play with her neuroticism, and convince her she wasn't attractive enough. Now she looks just like any generic middle-aged plastic-surgery junkie. It just makes me sad.

Frenchie being bi isn't the problem. It's them suddenly putting him in a relationship with someone else after 3 seasons of him & Kimiko.

I read a lot of comments from people that described it perfectly: “If you hate me because I’m conservative, that’s fine. If you want to critique my views with some subtlety, I get it. But when you become so overt with your critiques that it detracts from the actual quality and immersion of the show, it stops being a good show and starts being straight-up propaganda.”

The end of the Kimiko and Frenchie romance is sad. It felt like it came out of nowhere and ruined what they had been building.

Smartest human in the world walks out of the room to leave her henchmen to murder the protagonists without staying to make sure the job actually gets done. Much smart, very bravery.

I've always liked The Boys but the first episode of Season 4 felt like I was scrolling through a Twitter feed. I couldn't help but think how dated all of this will feel in a few years. All these current references feel so on the nose to the point of being obnoxious. But in episode 2 when Frenchie falls in love with a man out of NOWHERE, after all these episodes of him and Kimiko and their will-they-wont-they dance, I just couldn't anymore. It's not a show anymore. It's a Twitter feed, not a tv show. I'm walking away before it gets any worse.

It’s always funny when the audience score goes down and the critic score goes up

It’s not even it’s “woke” that’s the issue. The writing is the issue. The writers just decided everything that has happened politically in real life is the plot of this season. We already saw that happen. It was already satirized in other mediums. And the writing and main plot of the show is actively suffering for it. Take last season, here’s some what I thought would be obvious plot points: how is Butcher and Hughie coping with the idea that they may have missed their one opportunity to kill Homelander? How is Homelander handling the fact that he came close to defeat twice last season? Are we going to explore that his fight with Maeve showed he maybe isn’t as indestructible as we maybe thought? Has Hughie suffered any damage from Temp V? How are him and Butcher dealing with being normal humans feeling helpless against Supes after having a taste of that power? I feel like these are things that should be explored but just aren’t because of the focus on the “Trumpism” plot

Eye rolling wokeness aside, the quality has also notably dipped.

Homelander is not and was never portrayed as "awesome". He was shown as pathetic, has mommy issues, and psychopathic.

The thing is, even though Homelander is a straight up psycho, Antony Starr plays him so well that you can't help loving to hate or hating to love Homelander. Mr. Starr gives Homelander depth so that you can empathize with him for his tortured childhood and still be horrified by his atrocities. He's kind of like Heath Ledger's Joker in that he just he steals every scene he's in! And it only helps him that Starlight, the hero, is self-righteous and unlikeable.

Gotta love the "Big Corporations Bad" coming from Amazon prime.

Remember The Wire? Remember The Sopranos? Remember Breaking Bad, Daredevil, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel? Remember when shows were SHOWS and they handled controversial topics by naturally integrating them into the over all plot? Remember when there was a plot? Remember Characters you cared about? Holy &@%! What a concept!

"The writers are running out of material to write" That's exactly how I felt starting in season 2.

That Frenchie arc threw me off. They really shoe horned that in there. Starlight doesn’t even look like herself anymore. She turned into a 60yr old lady.

Kimiko is going to be a “Non-Binary Asian Lesbian Boss” by the end of this season.

The only all-knowing omnipotent god like Super Genius would have to turn out like Doctor Manhattan. To become entirely indifferent toward humans.

And the response to ANY criticism of the show, no matter how valid, is always the same. "ErM, YoU kNoW iT's MaKiNg FuN oF yOu, RiGhT?"

Nobody has mentioned how corny it was when Kimiko fought Firecracker and they somehow went into a photo booth and got their pictures taken mid fight. That is Scooby Doo level goofiness that caused maximum cringe I had run away from the television.

So basically they decided to abandon all good sense and creativity because it’s 2024 and they need to make it into a political ad.

"The Boys" is really about "The Girls".

Yet another nail in the coffin of good entertainment writing.

Banshee is the greatest thing Antony Starr has ever done. If you have never watched that show I highly recommend.

I like how in pretty much every scene she’s in, Sister Sage has to say the word “racist”

Season 2 called us literal Nazis. If you kept watching it's your own fault.

To the people saying that conservatives are just offended, tell that to the black people who got offended by the black face shows. It’s just satire after all. 🙄 When you’re the butt of literally every joke, it’s only natural to start getting annoyed at the constant slander. You’re the ones complaining about micro aggressions after all.

This season is definitely going all in on the politics. The thing that bothers me is that you see alot of people say "why are you choosing now to complain about the politics when its been in the show the whole time?". Im choosing now because before it never felt like the politics came before the plot. Sure you could definitely see it when watching but you could still enjoy the show. Now its so in your face that its just more of an eye role to try and watch. Also its really weird that they tried to downplay the epstein stuff by putting it in the conspiracy theorist convention.

It's worth noting that Homelander isn't just a character of the general conservative. The show Runner explicitly said that Homelander's suppose to be a parallels for Trump. They even posted a picture of Homelander in court the same day Donald Trump was convicted. Their left, they're proud, but also, they're smug about it.

“Woke” is just a buzzard for clickbait. The show really just hurt your feelings. A-train isn’t “good” and Homelander isn’t “kind of awesome”. He’s egotistical psychopath.

I knew this show was cooked when they got rid of Soldier Boy. Like why the hell does everyone want to stop him now? Homelander has a way longer list of heinous acts. Most of the bad things he does was an accident triggered by PTSD. He even shows a bit of remorse when he talks with Hughie about it. Also MM called him a racist when the show literally never showed him being racist at all.

Well Seth Rogan is one of the producers of the show, the wokeness was going to come out eventually.

I can take a joke with the best of them. But "The Boys" went from trying to tell a fun, intense story to trying to shoehorn in as many digs at the rightwing as possible, even when those digs come out of left field and add nothing to the story. We get it, Kripke doesn't like Republicans. But geez, his TDS has started to really infect a show that was genuinely fun to watch in the first 2 seasons. I'm glad it's ending with season 5. I don't really want to stay connected with these characters for much longer.

I feel like you misunderstood them constantly bringing up that Sage is the smartest person on earth. You could notice that everyone at Vought was constantly calling her the “smartest woman on earth”. And she was constantly correcting that she is the smartest person. And when MM talked about her, he called her the smartest person. It wasn’t meant to drilling it in that she is the smartest person on earth, it was more so to add a little bit extra to calling out the sexism that exists in Vought. I also reckon that because it’s been established how smart she is, by the end of the season we are gonna have some kind of flashback where we learn she has been making a lot of moves to get it to a specific point. Maybe she screws over homelander, who knows. And also, whilst the Hometeamers are generally portrayed as bad, they put in a little bit of nuance with Todd. He was a good stepdad and Janine loved him. That’s established. And like MM said, “He wasn’t my favourite guy. But he was innocent.” And then showing that Homelander was willing to kill some of his most vehement supporters for political aims was more simply pointing out that, politicians don’t care about their supporters. They don’t care as long as they get something out of it. And that ultimately, being so vehemently in to a political figure like that is only gonna get you hurt. I think it was showing that the Homelanders are just regular people who believe lies, and those lies will get them hurt and killed. But they are just regular people, and that could happen to every one of us. I mean Frenchie disarms the guys that comes into the Starlight house with a gun rather than full on beating him up. Because as bad as that dude was, he clearly just believed lies. We can all be idiots. And whilst this was clearly aimed at Trump because Homelander is who Trump would become if he was given that kind of superpower, I think it can be applied to several career politicians. A vast majority of politicians don’t give a shit about us, and if one of their supporters was killed by the supporter of one of their opponents, you can’t help but wonder how many politicians would cheer with joy for the political ammo it would give them.

The main difference is that the writing has gotten worse and worse as the writers get increasingly frustrated the viewers aren't hating who they want them to hate and all the messaging is backfiring on them. Hence this season 4. I'm just laughing. The ineptitude of Kripke & Friends has been evident for years, I'm now laughing at their desperation and full-blown TDS on display 😂

For 15 years Kripke wrote Supernatural and did a fantastic job.. so surprised he went this way and ruined a very entertaining show

Another thing that's woke in season 4: Hughie's mother explaining why she left.. Of course she could'nt just be a bad mom, she had to have the perfect reason (post partum) for disappearing. So that says " when a women do something bad, you better believe she had a good reason" because women are never bad..

I’m surprised people actually made it through the first episode of this season, let alone all 3… I could not, After Frenchie, I can’t tolerate being force fed Alphabet Mafia propaganda anymore…

I'm not surprised. When I was watching season 3, I definitely noticed that the show was being a lot less impartial with which side of the audience it had a preference towards. I don't mind watching content that disagrees with my worldview, but it definitely feels more like if you're not in agreement with "the message," you're kind of being insulted.

As someone who has watched the show since the beginning the sudden negativity is strange. There are valid criticisms but it seems people are outraged for there being politics which there have been since the beginning. Any man who must say, "I am the king" is no true king. Any woman who must say, "I am the genius" is no true genius.

All they did was hold a mirror up to a side that has been acting pretty insane. If people don't like that they are too on the nose and how it does not make that side look particularly good, then they need to take that up with that side for being so insane. Also, I don't believe that the show is calling everyone they don't agree with evil. For example, the Homelander fan that MM's ex was seeing was not portrayed as evil or racist. MM even said that he did not deserve what happened to him and that he was good to his (MM's) daughter. Also, the black woman is a bad guy. If the women and the people of color are supposed to be good, why is it that a black woman is the mastermind that is helping Homelander?

Frenchie's bisexualism was implied, so that's no biggie for me. And plus, Kimichie is a risky move. I'm not comfortable with both of them being with other people, but also I can't easily picture them together. It's like they are family, but not quite. I'd still rather them to be a couple than them to be with other people though.

Yes, it has always been woke. But this season they gave up telling a good story and are focusing on pushing their message. The characters are completely lost and nothing happens in the first 3 episodes. Another good show ruined.

I recently rewatched all of The Boys in preparation for S4. I decided to make it interesting by counting how much woke shit was mentioned, like people being called racist or ''white saviours'' or saying things are ''heteronormative'', that kind of thing. In S1, 0 times. In S2, 4 times. In S3, 6 times. And then I counted it for the first three episodes of S4. 27 Fucking times. So in the span of three episodes, they have almost TRIPLED the amount of woke shit from the ENTIRE THREE PREVIOUS SEASONS. The fact that people are still denying it is baffling to me.

It would have been better if Sister Sage held anonymity and influenced people to create a third faction possibly involving politicians as well. Then Homelander and The Boys set out to find her. When they said she is the smartest person, I thought some Light Yagami stuff would pop up.

The entire show is literally a massive mockery of the right wing and American conservatism, and honestly to a lesser extent Christianity itself. Yep, people, sitting here actually debating this. It’s quite obvious to anyone with basic pattern recognition that the show is literally heavily political propaganda, and reinforces leftist messages. The entire portrayal of the right is extreme exaggerations and outright lies, and of course the show isn’t supposed to be real life, but we all know this is intended to be a representation. Yet there are people literally in this comment section questioning whether this is even the case it kind of just shows the state of politics at this point where objective reality cannot even be identified anymore.

The Boys S1-2 (bits of S3 with Soldier Boy/including Herogasm) was absolutely amazing. Now it's a completely different show. S4 is unrecognisable and just completely overrun with woke, political garbage. Such a shame. As they say, go woke, go broke.

I think that there was one particular scene which summarizes how strong the series has deviated from its core story: When one gay men makes himself tiny so he can jump into the penis hole of another gay men to tickle it from inside until the other gay men gets an orgasm and explodes lethally. A scene without any context. Without having anything to do with the story at all. One of many such scenes. I started watching this series because I thought that it was a story about super heroes with typical human traits and their problems with the rest of the society is interesting. No wonder that people start to dislike it, if the series becomes 50% gay porn. It's not even about disliking gays - it's simply about the fact that people don't get to watch a story that they expected to see but something completely different. If I want to watch a science fiction about aliens or action movie with explosions, I wouldn't expect to watch a romantic comedy about political ideologies. Butcher and Homelander are basically the only two really interesting characters that kept me watching. Karl Urban plays his badass role excellently.

Looking at the most recent season it’s obvious, that they make fun of both sides to the extreme. Firecracker tells people what they want to hear, because she made bad experiences in her life with the other side. Annie, who was always the good one, shows she has a dark side to her. It shows the powerful, like homelander don’t care about the fight between Left and right, he just wants to be liked and appreciated.

The show has progressively gone downhill. Season 1 was good, 2 was okay, and 3 was watchable at best. At that rate, I don't assume 4 will be anything but maddening.

The Frenchie situation really rubbed me the wrong way, why build up 3 seasons of romantic tension between him and kimiko just for you to throw that away for a gay storyline? Yes I know he’s bi or whatever but why make us invested in their relationship just to throw it away? the couples in the show we’re rooting for are starlight and hughie then kimiko and frenchie. As of right now the boys sits on a 49% on rotten tomatoes so I guess a lot of people have a problem with the storyline this season

They say, "We're OVER SENSITIVE about WOKE stuff", but that's only because they put it in EVERYTHING. There is no escape. This is supposed to be about Celebrities with SuperPowers who abuse them, not an exaggerated window in to current day. We just want entertainment without a lecture.

Season 4 is ridiculously woke and this is coming from someone who considers themselves liberal. They’ve turned the show into Democrats vs Republicans and paint anything a conservative might believe as racist, violent, greedy, and crazy. They’re all “crazy” conspiracy theories yet the whole show is about the boys fighting the vought conspiracy. Yet anytime liberals are made fun of, it’s always “yeah, they virtue signal sometimes but their heart is ALWAYS in the right place”. It’s just very disingenuous to the point of propaganda. Also, you can tell this season was written before they got the memo that even liberals don’t f with Zionism and Izreel. They try to discredit any theories or ideologies that challenge the oligarchy, even tried to make fun of people for being upset at elite child pedo rings. The Boys - "I agree with every sociopolitical view pushed by our government, and every major corporation. But I say bad words a lot so I'm edgy."

The show fizzled out. It lost any stakes when Queen Maeve disappeared. The smartest sup is actually disappointing. Anyone with middling intelligence might be more self aware than her. Overall, Woke defeats this series.

I think the writers must think Trump was serious when he made the fifth avenue comment. They think they’re mocking him, but they’re actually just stealing his jokes lol. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, I guess 🇺🇸

A superhero show that displays political problems instead of super heros doing super hero things...boring

It's so cartoonish how they portray right wing extremists. They are so unrealistic. I get they are going for humour but it takes me out of the show when people act so ridiculous. And everyone seems to be gay in everything now. It's so cringe.

I'm just bored. Jokes are not funny plot repeats itself. Characters are like in no threat at all.

The Boys may have always been ‘progressive’ but it used to make fun of everyone. Now it looks like a tumblr philosopher has wrote every episode so far. Biggest letdown has 100% been Frenchie. Sure he’s always been ‘bi’ since the start, but anytime you heard about him in throuples or doing stuff with men was during drug use, or him being used as a sex slave. That’s why his relationship with Kimiko was so wholesome. They threw that development down the drain.

With the boys I just don't care about it being woke or not... As long as it's funny or messed up... Honestly I just don't like politicing something that shouldn't be political...

Homelander is now a generic Trump villain, Butcher is no longer part of the Boys for no real reason, and more glaring issues are present. It's like all of the old characters got nerfed and/or break character lore just to move the plot forward. I do like Sister Sage, but I'm going to be cautiously open minded about this season going forward...

In the show they compare the Homelanders to far right conservative conspiracy theories and I thought they nailed the comparison. These people are looking for purpose and to be apart of something that is more interesting than their boring day to day lives.
