Black Noir was such a wasted character!! I thought we would get so much more from him and in the end I felt soo bad for the poor guy. Bullied and ignored all his life only to be killed by his only friend. His death was so heartbreaking... but furthermore how wasteful was it of the writers to do him in so early without ever having him do anything apart from fight Kimiko and get a pep talk from cartoons. His character had so much potential, to me at least

I love how they used the cartoons to give emotion to Noirs death. The contrast of a still mask and the reflection of the beaver crying put us in his final thoughts before the beaver faded back showing the moment Noir died

It was crazy how Butcher was the one that reminded SB they had a deal to kill HL. SB was having second thoughts after finding out he was HL father. Right when they had a chance to finally kill HL, Butcher stopped SB in order to save Ryan. And In the end, Ryan chose HL. We’ll see if this comes back to bite Butcher in the behind.

Also, I think Black Noir is going to be revealed to be an ironic version of Deadpool. Deadpool is known for his ability to talk to no end, while BN doesn’t say anything. But no matter what happens to BN, he cannot die, similar to Deadpool. Side Note: SB was laser beamed in the face and it only gave him a little cut, that was crazy!

@@realottripleog7740 I am pretty sure Noir is dead. Homelander killed him the way Noir died in comics- with his guts ripped out. Also Homelander placed Noir's skull on the table (I know it was Noir's mask, but that is symbolic since Butcher kills Noir by removing his skull in comics). Noir killed HOmelander in comics. So it makes sense the writers made Homelander kill Noir, since they've shown time and over they like to be poetic with reversing character fates.

I really loved the camera shots in the conversation scene Homelander has with Ashly, A-Train and the Deep - Just as Homelander refers to A-train as "killing your own kind" there's a quick shot of Noir's mask on the table, and then back to A-train, suggesting he was taking in the hypocrisy in Homelander's apparent disgust in him. I thought that was an expertly "show don't tell" moment.

Butcher spent the entire season trying to kill Homelander. Went to Russia, rescued Soldier Boy, teamed up with him, helped him kill all of his old team members, and then suddenly decided to fight HIM instead of Homelander because he threatened Ryan without knowing who he was. That wasn't a good enough reason to just throw away such a big opportunity to kill Homelander. That part was poorly written in my opinion. Also lots of questions were left unanswered. Like where is Stan Edgar and what's he doing in the shadows? Why was Noir's story so anticlimactic and is he truly dead or not? I wish the finale was a little more satisfying like the previous season.

Completely agree. Butcher who would do ANYTHING to kill Homelander and then he gets a tingle in his balls to save the kid...that's not even his kid. Poorly written. Black Noir shouldn't have been killed off like that. Black Noir should have had a showdown with Soldier Boy or something at least. They should have built up the strong relationship Homelander has with Black Noir. This season showed that he really valued Black Noir.

They had a huge build for noir that we’ll know who he truly is and how he might the key to killing homelander but they reveal him to be schizo(which is fine) and just kill him off. Butcher protected hughie due to the guilt of losing Lenny but what’s the justification for Ryan? It’s not like the rays would’ve killed him, it would’ve taken the V out of him or that’s what they told viewers what SB’s power would do. It’s just lazy writing to push 2 more seasons out

I’m glad that Soldier Boy isn’t dead but I’m lowkey sad that Jensen might not be back for awhile or if ever. Soldier Boy was legit my favorite standout this season. Also scary how Homelander lost control in public and his fans didn’t condone his actions but celebrated it. I’m expecting an absolutely brutal Homelander in s4 and I can't wait!

That scene where the crowd doesn't know how to react but then Tod cheers so they follow suite whole-heartedly.. I'm from the UK and I'm wondering if this is a culture difference, or people are generally that impressionable.. Like in Cobra Kai when Stingray kicks his neighbour (who was complaining about the noise late at night) in the face and then says 'Party On!', or on Stranger Things too- just say a snarky, biting, vaguely witty comment and people will just laugh along, cheer and jeer.

This finale left me with a few thoughts: SB is alive & could come back later Starlight’s “power up” was underwhelming but can she fly now? Sad that Edgar didn’t come back maybe next season SB & Butchers conversation about kids makes me think Maeve will be pregnant with his child. Would be a crazy twist.

I loved this season too and agree that Black Noirs arc was a huge letdown. But I felt like they dropped the ball in a few places. I really thought they had an opportunity to do something with A train the last episode but they did not. Even Frenchie finally standing up to Butcher had no real impact and it seemed like they were building up to something bigger.

1. I believe Deep WILL be loyal to Homelander. They hinted at that, I BELIEVE, with the portrait of Deep and HL, that was on the wall as Deep watches his ex on TV. 2. I thought Ryan's intention was to save Butcher from Homelander. He MIGHT have gone nuts on Butcher and others if Ryan had not begged/ pleaded. That is my perception of it.

I was just so upset on how this is Black Noirs ending. It felt a lot of build up and nothing happened. I wish we got to see him and Soldier Boy at least meet... but having him killed off so fast was just a let down. I wish we got to see what he looked like now without his helmet. I wish a lot of things could of happened with Black Noir... I heard some people theorize that he is still alive because he did survive when Soldier Boy cut open his head but his guts were spilled out and his cartoons were upset. Nothing about this made me happy

He certainly is more tough-skined than homelander. I mean Ryan had vapourised Stormfront when he was younger (and hence weaker). Now a more powerful Ryan lasered SB and he didn't even get a scratch other than get pushed back by the momentum of the beam. He may be less powerful in terms of strength, but he seems to be tougher and harder to kill.

Not necessarily stronger but probably more durable. Remember how Mallory said "Impossible" when Crimson Countess claimed Soldier Boy had been killed and his body taken by the Russians? She was so shocked because as far as anyone knew, he was pretty much indestructible. The Russians also demonstrated that he was indeed impervious to anything they tried on him (despite apparently still being able to feel the pain).

The vibe that I got from homelander was so different in this episode, while he encountered soldier boy he was the most "human" he's ever been, seemed like he wasn't even trying to escape when he got him he was just shocked that his dad wanted to kill him, so weird that I sympathized him, he's so irredeemable at this point but... idk it feels weird im speechless about his character development

It shows how amazing Homelander's actor is to be able to play a character that's so damn bad but still manages to draw sympathy out of the viewers. It's a talent not every actor has. I was actually shocked by how human Homelander was with Ryan. Just how...I dunno....how he runs to Ryan's side after Soldier Boy knocked Ryan aside, it shocked me that he actually cared and made an effort to check on his son. Just wild. Its like The Deep's actor, I really didn't think I'd feel any form of anything for him. But the actor plays him in such a weird way that I just can't hate him. I can't hate Homelander either. Damn these brilliant actors!

I was underwhelmed by this ending it seemed more of a mid season end then a full season end. I thought that there was no real consequences. Maeve, SB, Homelander, it felt like plot armor what what all the main characters have in common. Considering how great the rest of the season was this episode felt weak. I'm ready to see what is next though.

@@javiburgh4203 idk homelander staying alive here seemed ok? Considering he’s the only one that could fly lol he could always get away and make it even more lame. I think they did a good job showing homelander cared for Maeve in a weird way and was holding back while fighting her. You could see he was getting frustrated because she was too strong to deal with half assed but he didn’t want to get serious and kill her. And with the idea of just letting homelander and Ryan get hit by the beam it’s not like the beam doesn’t hurt the people kimiko almost died from it. And Ryan was already at 1hp from a tackle what you think was going to happen to him when he gets hit by hyper beam.

I get they were showing Maeve’s power here but come on it was supposed to go down between SB Homelander. Butcher was just kinda there, so was MM.

My Thoughts On The Season Finale: I thought it was very underwhelming. The show wanted us to root for the Boys against Soldier Boy during the fight but he was the only one actually doing the right thing. He stuck to his word with Butcher and still tried to kill Homelander - his own blood. For some reason, Starlight was adamant about killing Solider Boy when he was their only chance in killing Homelander who is much worse. Mothers Milk was treating Soldier Boy like he is the worst being alive even though he is not evil and him killing MM’s family was an accident. I get that Butcher wanted to protect Ryan but him switching sides and fighting Soldier Boy was like this season about finding him was for nothing because once he takes out Soldier Boy, who will be strong enough to kill Homelander? Black Noir’s death was very weird considering we got flashbacks about him and Soldier boy so everyone was expecting a showdown between the two. In conclusion, it was very rushed which is a shame coz this season was amazing but the finale let it down.

NOIR REWRITE: instead of having him die (or maybe not?) in the anticlimactic meeting room scene, how about moving it to the Boys + SB vs Homelander? It would’ve been just as powerful and paying off the Noir-SB confrontation that’s been hyped up for weeks. Imagine them all facing off in the lab with Homelander then suddenly turning on his ally Noir, killing him for the same reason but in his way he would be trying to impress his father, and then imagine after all that SB would still call him a disappointment, leading the way to their fight. That would’ve been way more shocking and powerful then what they did with such a better payoff.

Tbh this last episode doesn't make sense for 4 key situations. 1. When the big 3 confront Homelander and Ryan was there, all they needed to do was get Ryan out of the room so SB can do his thing. I thought it was a little contrived in order to save Homelander for another season. They could have written that better. Butcher would not let that opportunity slip like that. Enough to fight his only chance at stopping Homelander. In fact he'd go hard to pry Ryan from Homelander. He coulda knocked Ryan out too like Soldier boy did and got him outta the way. Ryan wasn't gonna get hurt. Just depowered. 2. Ryan smiling when Homelander kills a dude. He grew up with his mom. He has to know that isn't right. He was even disturbed by Homelanders words last season. How much seeing him murder a dude. 3. The crowd cheering for Homelander... I'm sorry but the normal public seeing that would be terrified regardless of which side they are. A supe just lasered a guy for throwing an item. That shit would scar anyone no matter how "extreme" they are seeing as they're just normal people 4. How tf did Maeve survive. She jumped off a building and lost her powers when SB exploded. She shoulda been crushed. And if you want her to survive, push soldier boy outta the building.

I really feel bad for Noir this season. He tried to warn Homelander how bad Soldier Boy was, as he was the only one living with a storied past with him. Homelander's weakness for love and family was his rationalization though. Noir died in vain it seems and I doubt Homelander will ever have a second thought about that.

I feel like they can go in one of two directions for Ryan. Either they go for the redemption arc where he realizes how bad homelander is, tries to actively help protect someone from him, and gets hit by homelander for talking back. Or the shock and awe route where he goes off the deep end becoming kind of like what black noir was from the original, a little monster that causes homelander to pause and consider whether he loves him or not and battle with that since he knows what he would have wanted as a kid so lets him do it anyway. Either way, I see Ryan fighting against homelander in a confrontation it's just whether they set it up as Ryan surviving, in the end, to become an even worse villain in the future or he just becomes another hero.

Not sure what the point of Black Noir was this season. If he’s dead, bad writing because it was a meaningless arc! If he’s not dead, bad writing because his intestines were out and fake out deaths are lazy as hell! Strange season for me. Felt a little rushed with some storylines (Black Noir/Homelander running Vought), and then too much time spent on others (Kimiko/Frenchie). Stan Edgar completely disappearing from the show? Ryan disappearing for 6 episodes only to pop up at the very end? I think 8 episodes worked for season 1 as the story was smaller in scope, but i think they could use 1 or 2 more to flesh things out and make sure everything is hitting.

But with Soldier boy back in the picture, he can proabably do a prettty good job at holding the show as the main villain on his own as well. So many problems would have been eliminated as soon as Homelander was eliminated, but the chaos created when each person took an independent viewpoint instead of working together, basically put the world in a worse position at the end of the last episode than what it was in at the beginning of the season. MM, for example, was so full of hatred for Soldier Boy, that he never thought to wait until Homelander was taken out first by Soldier Boy, THEN, taking out Soldier Boy. Nobody has any logical thinking at all except for Butcher. I'm so mad at them all!

In the words of Plinkett, the S3 finale felt like cinematic blue balls. All the buildup for Soldier Boy taking away powers and Black Noir's character arc and we got none of that. SB is back in captivity and now the Ryan plotline + Neuman election plotlines are back. S3 was great except for the finale.

@@amandawilliams2997 Correct, his push people away to protect them worked alittle too well. Ryan needed Butcher to forgive him to forgive himself for killing his mother. Their love or Becca united them, as they both felt the same loss. When Butcher used that as a trigger to repel Ryan's attachment he basically sent him running to Homelander. I mean who else does the kid have left? Homelander was an asshole to him, but Ryan still sees that he cares and now after his mother's death can see why he needs be tougher in the face of a world that is cruel. Butcher needed used a less forceful method of creating distance between him and ryan than the scorched earth method(Victory at any cost) he picked, but this season was about where that path leads, it leaves alone and becoming the thing you swore to stop. Butcher right up till the end was about let everything burn down with him. It wasn't till Hughie and Ryan were on the chopping block that he finnally had to stop. He was forced to deal with the fact he left his brother in the hands of his father and failed to protect him. If victory comes at any cost, it rarely ends up being an actual victory. He couldn't live with killing Hughie or Ryan to destroy Homelander. As much as Butcher wants claim he's the monster and beyond saving, he still has a line in the sand he's not willing to cross. There's still hope for him yet. (Whether he lives up to that or not is another story.)

This was a let down because logically they could have just moved Ryan and have Solider Boy take care of Homelander. Homelander was way out numbered too. It is like one of those old shows where a character goes though a lot and at the end it was all a dream. This felt similar where this season they went through so much to get rid of Homelander and at the end got nothing was done even if they could have done it. If felt so forced where Butcher and Homelander start fighting Solider Boy. They could have take care of Homelander and depowered him. Then they can continue with their story where the Vought now tries to get Homelander and give him the power back so they can continue to make money. This just felt like they want to drag the show just to make it lonnger.

Yep. Also, they didn’t even need to remove Ryan. The Soldier’s blast, while not great for the building and regular people, would only remove the powers from all the people next to him. They all would have woken up powerless, short of Soldier Boy. It was a weird move to have them turn on him like that. Obviously what I’m saying must be true, as Maeve lost her powers and fell like 70 stories to the ground, and lived.

I thought this episode was awful and all over the place. The biggest thing that didn't make sense to me was Ryan being on good terms with Homelander which for me was out of character for him, they've shown him to be a pretty mature kid so why would he teamup/go with Homelander ? Butcher mightve not treated Ryan the best this season but it wasn't believable enough for me that would cause Ryan to go with Homelander especially after he basically got Becca killed. I think this is probably the weakest season so far.

I agree, I was so confused at that part where they were supposed to fight homelander. But because of the kid they have to change plans. But still Butcher could have said after pushing soldier boy that killing/ blasting the kid is not part of the deal then soldier boy would have probably consider it because I don't think soldier boy is the type of supe who murders a kid on the spot. But instead Butcher just completely changed his plans to killing homelander into fighting soldier boy. And then all the teams effort went to putting soldier boy to the ground while Maeve was the only one fighting homelander and then her attention went to soldier boy in the last part of the fight. Everything they did went to nothing and also the problem became worst. On the next season they might be dealing with soldier boy again and home lander with his son who might turn into a bad guy and also head popper.

It's clear that Noir doesn't have his helmet anymore, since Homie took it as a trophy/keepsake, but I feel like Noir's resilience is going to allow him to return in some form. I wonder if other Ashley brought that footage of Maeve surviving to Ashley, or if Ashley shared the footage with her. If it's the latter, then that was a HUGE mistake on Ashley's part because now she's keeping a secret from Homelander, and Homelander kills those who lie to him. Ashley is going to have to stop treating her assistant like shit if she doesn't want her to spill the beans to Homelander. Also, instead of the series ending within 18 months simply due to Butcher's life getting cut short, what if he decides to take permanent compound V to try and save his life next season. Butcher is a main character, so I doubt that his life and the series will end after 18 months and that's the reason why. If he does take it, he'll have to deal with the fact that he has turned into the thing that he despises the most, and it will also align his character more closely with his comic book counterpart since he will have powers moving forward.

Season 1 & Season 2's finale were so good, I thought Season 3's was a bit weak. The pacing in this episode felt weird, like they stuffed too much into it, made things feel rushed. This series & Attack On Titan are still my favorite ongoing shows on television though, the only shows I watch traditionally every week as soon as a new episode releases. Wish The Boys had more episodes per season & I wish they stopped releasing the first 3 episodes on the same day, it makes it go by too fast, the show is only on for 6 weeks due to releasing the first 3 episodes the first day.

I love how they incorporated elements from the comics into Maeve's heroic final act and they didn't decide to just mirror her comic book counterpart's end. Like, I totally thought Homelander was going to punch her head off and send it flying through the window as opposed to gouging her eye out lol, so I was relieved when I saw her fall from Vought tower voluntarily in order to take Soldier Boy out, and there wasn't a decapitated head falling from the window instead. In both instances, her final decision was motivated by wanting to save Starlight (I don't think she would've made that kind of sacrifice for anyone else in the room), and I thought that was a nice touch.

I think Homelander was a little too nerfed in the Maeve fight. For how scared she's been of him all series, she did better than SB which doesn't quite sit right with how I thought the show was setting it's power rankings Still a great episode and season tho.

They didn't. 1. Homelander didn't want to killed her because he wanted to keep her alive. 2. Homelander can't fight and she can. Like how SB and Butcher wasn't strong than Homelander but was able to get the upper hand due to them knowing how to fight.

Everytime that SB unleashed his death ray (for lack of a better term) it looked like a nuclear explosion except for the time he hit Kimiko with it. Also the last when they almost took the Vought Building down it looks like Maeve was close enough that it should have, at least, cut her in half......She seemed none the worse for wear though

I don't know if you mentioned it but Erik Kripke created Revolution, a show that featured Giancarlo Esposito. As for Ryan, well, Supernatural featured Jack, the son of Satan and I think his arc could serve as a model of what The Boys does with the son of Homelander.

I think ep 6 would have been a more interesting finale than ep 8... starlight taking minutes to charge up her attack only to do no damage against soldier boy...butcher taking all temp v for nothing...butcher fighting against soldier boy even though he was the one who reminded him that they had a deal and to not betray him......it feels like the finale was poorly constructed and it didn't have the same effect as the finales of the prior seasons

This episode makes me feel like Homelander just want to have a home with his TRUE family. Ryan is the only reason that Homelander doesn't go berserk. I'm hoping that season 4 Ryan doesn't become Homelander Second. Also, please bring back Maeve (with her power)! About the final fight scene, I think it doesn't make too much sense at all. They could let solider boy do the job, and then gas him and put him in the box.

WHAT A FINALEEEE. IT WAS EVERYTHING I HOPED FOR AND MORE But what homelander did at the end rhere had me shocked and the crowds reaction as well. The whole scene literally sent chills down my spine. Shout out to Maeve for being a hero. I was so worried there for a second. Wowowowow season 4 can’t come fast enough man I wish I could time travel 😭🤣 The boys has officially entered my Top 10 even Top 5 shows of all time. The story and writing is PHENOMENAL.
