During the Tudor period, there was much brutality especially during the reign of King Henry VIII. The infamous King would oversee the executions of 70,000 people within his kingdom, and two of the most shocking executions saw two of his wives going to their deaths inside the Tower of London. Anne Boleyn was Henry VIII's Second Queen/Wife and she changed History forever as her marriage to the King forced Henry to break from Rome. This plunged the country into religious turmoil, and Anne was hated by many across England. But she fell from grace incredibly sharply, which resulted in her being executed inside The Tower of London. Thomas Cromwell expertly plotted her downfall, as Henry VIII grew tired of her and the fact she could not give him the male heir he greatly wished for.
Cromwell was involved in gathering evidence that saw Anne Boleyn found guilty of adultery, incest and treason. But there were 5 other men executed alongside Anne Boleyn for their involvement in the Boleyn scandal. These men have mostly been forgotten in History, and Anne's own brother George Boleyn was executed on Tower Hill accused of sleeping with the Queen. Alongside George Boleyn, Mark Smeaton, Henry Norris, Francis Weston and William Brereton were all executed by an axeman for their involvement allegedly with the Queen. It's believed today that these men were innocent as was the Queen, and that these men were murdered in cold blood.
