I started karting in the late sixties. Back then, we had no bumpers or nerf bars at all. We never did any of this kind of crap for obvious reasons. You payed dearly if you did. And we had very few wrecks or flips because of that. I still race at 69 years old. I run 206 Masters, locally, and won the state series championship last year. I contemplated moving to 206 Senior Heavy. But decided not to because they wreck each other pretty much every time they are on track.

I hope you guys can solve it! It's bubbling up to full size car racing when these kids switch to classes like Spec Miata. Bump and run and other aggressive maneuvers absolutely cannot be allowed when the racing is scaled up. Scare tactics are just fine with me!

Not a national level race but I raced the super series rental league at calspeed a number of times. They had very harsh penalties for gaining a position in a bump and run. I lost a position in a heat for a bump. And another time I lost a win in the C main because of contact and got a drive through penalty, I was pissed because the guy turned into me and spun himself out and I thought it was a bad call. But their harsh penalties made for very clean racing especially in karts with rental bumpers. Excited to see what Mike does with K1's new track when they open! (hopefully soon)

When your tire is at the limit, any little bump from behind will mess you up. Lots of people that bump when they have nothing else in their arsenal.

I do indoor go karting with a group of adults and ex racers and while this is different, the only way to overtake is to bump the guy off his line and try and pass and because where I live it snows half the year sometimes they all do indoor in the winter and outdoor in the summer so you can imagine how dirty it gets sometimes for them. But with ours its literally every. single. turn. you are bumping and shoving to the point you have back problems and then comes along this kid with a ton of talent and waiting for a mistake instead of bumping and just taking advantage gets him around everyone.

To me bumb and runs are good as long as it’s just a touch and not a full on ram out of the way

Its so tempting to move people out of the way when it happens to you every other race, its just a big negative feedback loop.

Heavy penalties are a harsh but I think a necessary one. These bumps are getting a bit too normalized.

From the time I first started in go karts, I was told racing is a “non-contact sport.” Shouldn’t that apply for these situations?

Gotta get rid of the plastic rear bumper, they’re ridiculous. The old CIK bodywork with square pods and a nose that would rip off with enough contact was the best.

As a driver you know when someone is on your bumper. You don't have to hold your brake to stop someone from passing you in the last corner. Hit the brakes hard at the apex and the person in 2nd will hit you hard and you will get to the line 1st. I've done it more than once.
@bobalong3717

Thats called a brake check, also dirty. What kind of kart racer brakes on the apex 🤡🤡🤡

@@bobalong3717 nope breaking hard on the apex because your avoiding the cutback while entering the corner on the dirty defensive line is not break checking.

Bump and run in an absolutely zero contact sport is dirty regardless. Sometimes shit happens....but when its intentional like bump and runs ALWAYS are, dirty. This isn't Nascar

If you don't want to get moved, don't be in the way. Lap 1 or the last lap. There is nothing wrong with the bump and run.

The 2 cycle guys have brought this to 4 cycle. Ruining this series as well..
@KartChaser
@KartChaser 4 месяца назад
It's not a 4 cycle or 2 cycle thing. If anything, you could argue the opposite, as 4 cycle classes are slower, and have more pack racing, and used to run full bodywork packages. It's a karting thing. The 2 cycle vs 4 cycle divide in our sport might be the silliest, most unnecessary rivalry we have. - Xander

I respect your opinion. I've raced sprint series longer than you've been alive. WKA had all those penalties.. Zig not zag couldn't even turn your head to look.. Now, what you guys call defensive WKA called blocking.. When it is clear cut you hear "Oh, we didn't see it".. These series get so big that it becomes a money grab and we the racers suffer.. They call the penalty, then that racer/team threatens not to come back.. etc etc
@KartChaser
@KartChaser 4 месяца назад
@@user-em3it8sq5p well the zig not zag still exists, and does get called. And the reactionary blocking is somewhat regulated -- if they get alongside you before you can move low, then it's a penalty. But you are allowed to turn your head, as in 2020 SKUSA tried to penalize based on turning your head backwards, and so kids just swerved low to defend without realizing someone was alongside. I don't think turning your head around is a problem, but you just have to respect the fact that if someone gets alongside you before you got to cover off the inside, you lost the battle and need to give space.
@user-em3it8sq5p
@user-em3it8sq5p 4 месяца назад
@KartChaser There is so much wrong with karting we would disagree for days.. Series let you serve penalties on track, and when you get 1 to serve that you know you can't, you just brake check everyone behind you so your "Teammate" wins.. Referring to Grands if you didn't put it together.. I heard through the grapevine, that driver wouldn't be allowed at Spring Nats.. He was there. Threats only work whe. The not threats but reality. Keep up the great work young man.

@@user-em3it8sq5p Well, I'd definitely agree that we are far from perfect. But step 1 to solving the problem is starting the conversation that admits we have one in the first place. Here's to hoping we can build on that together. -- Xander
