It is ye know!!! I had no idea who he was until I watched a video of him on Conan.......a few you tube recommendations later and I think he’s hilarious!
I heard through the grapevine that Chris Parnell is the only SNL cast member that never once broke character in any sketch. I'd believe it as he excels t playing the straight man of comedy scene.
I am Spanish but I lived in California in 2012. The accents might be exaggerated but the fact that people spend HOURS debating the best driving routes is 100% accurate.
There are many accents in California, tho. Its a big state. You could fit several European countries inside of it. This particular accent is like a version of the posh accent used in England. However, in California its mostly used by white people from the valley (which is why most of the characters are blonde - which is merely a stereotype). That also explains why they are so obsessed with taking the quickest route to their destinations because they usually live outside the urban areas.
@@TatankaTaylorAs an English man, with a Californian Mother, the accents really aren't alike. Unless you mean in terms of how Posh accents are relatively niche, like this particular Californian accent?
@@yes-ft9ze you seem like you're a boring person to be around. If I had a choice between hanging out with you or going to a curling event you bet your ass off I'm going to a curling event. Get some sense of humor please. I'm sure you're a nice person and all but your just making yourself sound boring to be around. The skit itself was intended to be silly with some dumb lines and I think the actors are breaking because how silly and dumb the lines are. I would love to see your skits you've written and produced. Do you have any you would like to share so we might get a better understanding about what's really funny and maybe prove to everyone you're not as boring as you sound. Have a nice day and god bless
rickyhuff Excellent! Wish I'd thought of that.... Maybe I should have said..."bitchin', dude". Has a bit more feeling,...imho. And a big thumbs up on that spot-on spelling, my friend.
Armisen’s pronunciation of California in ‘You belong here with me in Southern California’ might be the most accurate SoCal accent ever caught on camera 🤣
The Debbie Downer sketches are a riot as well, there's one with Jimmy Fallon who (of course) just can't keep it straight. Lorne Michaels hates it whenever his cast members break. The Californians is so wonderfully and ridiculously written that SNL actors breaking to it adds to the sketch's charm and we all get to laugh at the craziness.
Well Devin, if you want to see it air, just take the 101 S to the 405. Keep heading south and then take Santa Monica Blvd East through Beverly Hills...oh wait thats Cedars-Sinai Hospital, my bad, bruh!
It is it's own, even if it's for a year, or how the ratings going. They definitely act California too with or without the accents. California has lots of material to have a field day on. State goes through a lot of phases and trends I hear.
I think if they resist the longest it's better.. Because l have this idea that the more they break character the easier it will be to break as the slightest opportunity.. Am l wrong? Trying to think from an actor's point of view
I love how much Armisen makes Hader laugh. Fred is always his laugh trigger. I also love how when Fred starts to break, his mouth keeps moving but his voice ceases to work.
I love Bill Hader so much. He never fakes laughs, but if he did we could easily tell. His left eye always closes a little when he's laughing. The Californians is my favorite SNL skit series because of how often they break character 🤣
Breaking character is his default acting style. Character breaks are much more special if they're from people that actually try to get thru a sketch. 😂
Hader has talked about it in podcasts. In the table read during the week he read it normal, "Devin, what are you doing here" but did the over the top take during dress. It helped the sketch turn into a game of one-upsmanship, which is what gave it the life to do it like 10 times in 2 seasons, or whatever. Sorry about the reading material.
I have relatives in Southern California. They really do talk about how they drove to get to some event. They took the 5 to the 405 to the 710 to the 115
I lived in northern Cali and now I live in Southern California near LA. The whole directions bit is on point. Californians are all about directions. Taking the 5 or the 101 is a big debate here.
@@mpup54 nah, I don't do LA traffic I hop on the 8 West towards Mission Valley to pick up some Swishers and bud then headed East to El Cajon to procure some skante
By far one of the hardest skits to perform in snl history. Like it’s almost seems like they are trying to make each other laugh, while trying not to break yourself. I wonder how cecily strong would fare off in a skit. That woman is know for not breaking character
She actually broke character because of Bill Hader in a skit where he plays an old man and she his wife. I think it’s called Girls Game Night or something like that.
@@Waddles13 I'd still like to know how Cecily never broke during any of the "close encounters" sketches. Kate McKinnon made everyone else break during those except for Cecily, somehow. She's just too good.
@@mothvile : Yeah but it's funny because Kristen can usually stay in character much better than Bill. I love him but he is so quick at giggling and laughing.
Ive watched this like 5 days in a row now lol i cant get enough of it😂 i immediately knew that was some kind of inside joke they made into some sketch and i was right. This must have been so much fun doing for those involved on the joke😂
One of the best things during the Karina Returns skit is Kristen accidentally knocking off her hat before her reveal and ad libbing "I can't keep this up any longer. My hat already fell off. So get ready for the other half of the shock of your life!" COMEDY GOLD 😂
Trump’s A FatAss In an unrelated story, there are few secrets still around after nearly 60 years. The one that comes to mind is....who actually assassinated JFK? WE don't know.....but someone does, and it's a secret. Food for thought....
Who would've thought that a skit with exaggerated SoCal accents revolving around Californian street directions would be so effing hilarious?!? Pure comedic genius 😂
This is hysterical and becomes even better for me watching the cast try to get through the lines without cracking! You can see them losing more and more control as the skit progresses, the whole thing was blown before they even got halfway in!:)
