The Sopwith Camel was one of the RAF’s main fighter aircraft in 1918. It was a single-seater that also sometimes did reconnaissance and bombing and its name derives from the ‘hump’ covering the machine guns in front of the pilot.

It looks very primitive, but when you think that heavier than air flight had only just been invented/discovered a handful of years before, its pretty advanced really...

Must admit I found the no canopy, no oxygen and no parachute line a bit odd as did any contemporary plane have these?

It was built during ww1. Health and safety didn't exist back then

Why don't the British design their own fighters anymore? With such a rich aircraft design history, I'm surprised the British hadn't had anything self-designed in the 21st century.

NO canopy, no oxygen, no parachute...and no heat. But plenty of castor oil...which was the engine lubricant; it was blown out and coated everything, including the pilot.

Harsh Bansal Unless you actively seek to learn about planes like the camel, learning about them in an environment like a game is literally the best possible way. They’ve been gone for a very long time now, the fact that you learnt about it in a game, and then seeked to learn more with this video is awesome. Don’t deserve any flack at all

Hmm.. I'd have given the award of Best WW1 British Fighter to the SE5a myself. The SE5a was more advanced, faster and a lot easier on inexperienced pilots.
