Around me, new car franchise dealers are shuttering their doors and those that aren't have plenty of excess inventory. It's not just the new car franchises that are getting bit. It's the used car lots, too. A LOT of them went out of business in 2023. I know of a guy who had five use car lots who is now back to having just one. I don't feel particularly sorry for him, as he was soaking customers when the used car market was at its hottest. All of this is happening in a metro area which, unlike others in the country, has more jobs than people wanting to fill them.

When you can get Toyota Tacoma’s for 3k under invoice in CA, the market is falling. Last year they were at 5k over sticker for same truck. Tundra’s discounted even more. The big 3 have huge discounts due to 300-400 days supplies of trucks on hand.

I can only comment from a UK perspective but here's what I think is happening: 1. We're having a market correction - the semiconductor shortage is all but over, new cars are arriving on forecourts which is driving down the price of used vehicles 2. International economies are struggling - various wars and high interest rates are having an impact on consumer spending 3. The end consumers do not, en masse, want electric vehicles - the rise of EV sales have been driven by the tax breaks afforded to businesses. Those businesses are now dumping three year old EVs into a consumer market that does not want them, hence their precipitous fall in value. Supply and demand. Over supply plus weak demand = falling values I'm sure there are more reasons but these three immediately sprang to mind for me
@MrYobII

my 0.02.. The car market is crashing in general. Repossessions are high. People are upside down on loans. Interest rates are very high. You are asking a guy who sells cars for a living, so of course he wants to paint a picture that "the market is good". Lots of used car companies are going out of business. Vroom? CarMax is in trouble as well. Days worth of inventory is very high. The market generally sucks for sellers. Prices are correcting and many in the auto industry were not prepared for it.

Brendan great video. This opens up a lot of discussion on the floor. Pickups have replaced the Mini Van for the new family vehicle, so that market will be strong. EVs were marked up because of the push from governments to electrify fleets, and the chip shortage post-covid, but the consumer base is still on the fence about electric power. The point your guest raised about $20K vehicles and under being strong should send a message to manufacturers. A lot of people just need a simple car to get around town and commute to work. They Don't want to spend $50K and don't have $50K to spend! Build new compact and subcompact vehicles. With features that will make consumers happy and you'll sell a boat load.

Slightly different opinion of the market but the guy spoke to was informative but it's like talking to a cars sales man in the case a business owner he's not shooting himself in the foot and going public the market is tanking. It is tanking perhaps some markets less then others and if dealers have 23 model yrs left great deals to be had. New rules on the horizon from the government FTC "carsrule" which revolve around the buying process and consumer protection that are gonna shake things up in the consumers favor so we aren't getting screwed by bad dealers.. that should be your next segment on this thread FTC cars rule.

The market is constantly evolving. Manufacturers are offering lower interest rates now on some new models knowing that they can move into lower rates as they come down over the next couple of years. Market adjustments are gone. Inventory is rising. If you want all the extras you are still going to pay for them but if you search dealer inventory for lower optioned vehicles you can find some better/more normal pricing on them compared to the last several years. Used car inventory will continue to grow depending on how owners want to handle being upside down on late models. Seems that more are getting repo'd but some owners won't want to roll negative equity and may bite the bullet and continue to pay down those debts. Manufacturers still seem reluctant to advertise big incentives across the board but you should be able to negotiate a little more this year. I am not too familiar on the EV market other then to say it seems as though some manufacturers are planning to cut some EV production. This is just what I see in the mid-atlantic area.

I never see comments about the horrific American consumer spending habits on vehicles, which also affects the market. A lot of you talk about high inflation, low wages and such but neglect to mention that people were, and still are, paying over sticker for brand new cars that they can’t afford and don’t need. Manufacturers see this and are going to continue bend you over, if they can. Prices aren’t going to come back all the way down from pre-pandemic time. That’s also how inflation works. Consumers help set this unattainable, bloated market by paying crazy markups…they(some of you) need to take some blame.

To say the market will go down a little is the same as saying Denver is a great place to be. Both are not close to reality. Because MSRP has increased 30-40% the last 3 years is a factor why prices are still stupid. Not factoring in a major recession that will be here this year is to show a short-sightedness that leans toward being blind. Not realizing that layoffs are happening and will only increase to cause the recession is to live in a land of fairy tales. Car experts? Hardly.

Those sunglasses are clearly rose tinted. Even with an 800 credit score, interest rates on a used car are 9% and prices are still through the roof. It’s just a matter of time before the levee breaks. Dealers are going to have to cut prices or they’ll be sitting on inventory forever.

That’s exactly how I bought my 2020 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 4x4 loaded with 18.5k miles on it for $23,500 in June. I have the title with no liens on it. I owe $16,100 on the card loan right now. I was insulted off of TFL truck, and TFL cars because of my opinions on the EV car/truck push. Seemed like that was the ONLY content available on these channels for soooo long. Even received snobbish comments from the staff of TFL themselves, which surprised me. Unsubscribed from both of them, and never looked back. Some called me an old kodger , I didn't have a clue etc. What did I know? I knew enough that I'm your average American buyer with money to spend. I'm not stuck in a journalist bubble. I live in realsville. As a business owner that relies on vehicles to make my living, I budget and plan for what I need 4 to 5 years ahead. EVs are such a narrow market do to limited infrastructure support, and limited range. Hybrids are where the market needs to go for now. Manufactures made a HUGE mistake dumping so many eggs into that EV basket. Now jobs are being lost and 90k vehicles are just sitting there. It's hilarious how some people still think it's going to pan out just fine in the next 2 years. And these "Pledged" manufacturing numbers will be attainable. Whatever......

Short_bus, just because the world does not conform to your beliefs, don’t blame us. If you hate EV’s and they don’t work for your business, don’t buy one! But the fact is that we report on everything automotive including hellcats and Teslas. Last time we checked the F-150 was still the best selling vehicle in the land. That may or may not change but please stop holding us accountable for what GM or Ford builds. That’s not fair to us. We know today many people only want their beliefs amplified and promoted. That’s not TFL. We’ll leave that to Fox and MSN. If you don’t want your beliefs challenged, just be honest and say so instead of blaming over coverage or lack there off.🤔

What's happening on the ground? The automotive market is crashing. The ongoing success of one used car wholesaler in the Denver Metro area does not and cannot speak for the entire automotive market nationwide.
@byronb1738
@byronb1738 4 месяца назад
We have a historically inflated car market here int the Denver area due to a steady influx somewhat wealthy coastal population moving in and we are the only major car market within a 500 mile radius / 8 hour drive. With a metro area of roughly 3 million, we don't have the selection or competition of markets like LA, Chicago, Houston, etc. I have bought several cars out of state for family or myself due to the inflated prices here. When you go to buy, dealers cite the local market, but when you want to sell/trade they cite the national market. Even with all that, nearly every car in my CarGurus watch list has dropped a few thousand $$ in the last 4 weeks.

@AkioWasRight

No fortune in it, it's just a matter of energy policy. If you don't tax and regulate the industry to death, the market economizes and brings down the price at a consumer level. Mind you, this is generally true for the US. However, it's not true everywhere in the US. In some states, people are paying $2.49/gallon, sometimes less. But there are states that more closely align with the rest of the world. In California, where they have bad policies that regulars and tax fuel heavily, prices are more around $4.50 to $6.50+ per gallon. Literally, the same fuel as the rest of the nation, but it's 2x the prices due to anti-market conditions created by the state.
@aaronbehindbars
@aaronbehindbars 4 месяца назад
I paid $6.50/gal in California las year which is INSANE! That was over double what I was paying at that time here in Texas. Yesterday, I saw prices of $2.65-2.70 for our lowest fuel grade. We do have cheaper gasoine, but everything is spread out so you have to drive a lot for everyday things.

We are very fortunate in the US? I disagree. I live in Dallas Texas and I’m too poor to afford health insurance like millions of other Americans. @AkioWasRight
@AkioWasRight 4 месяца назад
@@sachinnair91 If you're not only "poor" but also uninsured, then that's a double personal issue. Even most people on low wages have coverage because of the employer mandate. So, you're not just "poor", you've made choices. Also, healthcare is not free in Europe, it's paid for by taxes. I assure you, your bill spread is far less than what the average European pays in taxes.
@sachinnair91
@sachinnair91 4 месяца назад
@@AkioWasRight very easy for you to judge and look down on others. The fact remains that millions of Americans don’t have health insurance and are petrified of getting sick due to huge medical bills. No dealer is going to tell you the market is crashing and they are hurting and need to get their cars sold or go broke. Ultimately people can't really afford $100k pickup trucks, so even Stelantis will have to start producing what people can afford. At that point the used market is screwed, because they can't see a two year old vehicle for more than a new one. That time has gone, and they made an absolute fortune ripping people off. Hard life, isn't it?

The thumbnail got me in, but Bearded Boy is a paid shill for the dealerships. Does he think everyone is blind, watching vehicles sit for months while the dealerhips have to pay the floorplan to the bank. Every month, they pay interest on the cars the banks gave them credit to buy. And now, the banks are tightening up on credit to consumers. The "Great Pandemic Money Machine" sits broken and silent. As food goes up, the repo drivers run around the clock. Not even Toyota has deep enough pockets to avoid losing money on $100K trucks that have more recall problems than time on the job. And consumers are walking away from the market, repairing what they have, and keeping a roof over their heads. This video is at best, wishful thinking.
