Head to www.squarespace.com/nostalgia... to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code NOSTALGIANERD.... Last month, I had the opportunity to purchase a car from 1990, a Renault 19 TSE. It's a car model that has a lot of nostalgia for me, and indeed I've been was fascinated by them since the 80s. So it seemed the perfect opportunity to make a video about it. Little did I know that it would turn out to be almost an hour long.
This isn't just on a whim. I've been hankering to make a car video for ages, and now it's complete, I'm pleased I've done it. I have no idea how well it's going to go down with my subscriber base, but that's not the point. This was a labour of love, and I really enjoyed making it. It was nice to delve into something that isn't computers for a change. It was also nice to get outside and do some "proper" filming.
Anyway, even if it's not your thing, I hope you at least get something from it. Normal service to resume from the next video.
With thanks to my daughter for her excellent drone piloting skills.

This video took a tonne of time and effort, so I hope you enjoyed it. If you want more car content I suggest checking out Big Car (nnerd.es/BigCar). Also, I don't usually ask this, but if you happen to enjoy my content please consider subscribing and clicking the bell icon. The ‘not showing up’ is because even fully notified subs are being curated by YT now. Sometimes it’s just a delay in notification but it’s getting more common that the video doesn’t even show up in your subs tab! I frequently (every couple of minutes) refresh my subs tab when on RU-vid and I still suffer this issue. Platform seems irrelevant as for me it applies on PC, iPad and android. Kudos for the correct spelling of tonne and balls to RU-vids algorithm.

Honestly, both are technical and mechanical creations. They are the same consept, a solution for problem, but for two different purposes. I find myself watching old two-stroke diesel generators and vintage equipment restorations way too often just because it is fascinating how people overcame problems before the current solutions came to be. A solution to problem, using the knowledge of it's time.

i've got my drivers' licence when i was 18, about one and a half year ago. i didn't exactly knew what i wanted as a car but i saw my neighbour driving one to go to his farm and he kept telling me how good it was. finally, i said i wanted one. a 4-door bordeaux red. that same neighbour found one just a hundred meters from his house, he just knocked at the door, and asked how much the guy would ask to sell his 19 (albeit it was supposed to be on sale at first). he told €1,200 and he called me to come and see it. immediately bought it. that one is in a clinical condition : it recently celebrated its 30th birthday but everything looks like my car has been produced a few years ago only! it had only made 110k km (or 68k miles) in 30 years. 1.4e motor, RL model. love it. gonna keep it for the rest of its life.

And now I'm driving his old Clio III from 2008, which he gave to me in 2018,when I got my license. This video brings so many memories back. Thank you ❤️

Ahh, so nice to see the Renault 19 given some love! My old 19 TS was the first car I ever bought with my own money. It had 60,000 miles on it when I got it, and I then drove it another 100,000 miles, all over the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland. I taught two of my friends to drive in it, and it helped me move house five times. It carried everything from mattresses to surfboards. In all that time, the only thing that ever went wrong was a broken fan belt. Sadly, eventually it was consumed by rust, otherwise I'm sure it would still be running today.

The mother-in-law had a dark blue, 4-door 1.9 which I did a lot of the maintenance on, and I was always impressed at how easy it was to work on. Some real thought had gone into it. It lasted a long time and did many trips back and forth across Europe. We later bought a 1.8 16V Laguna serie 1, which turned out to be one of the best cars I've owned - superb vehicle: I was sad when it had to go. More like this, please!

I had the R19 phase 1 16v. Loved that damn thing even though it was almost entirely hassle from start to finish!

My dad’s colleague had a black R19 back in the day. It had cauge that displayed the motor oil volume on the instrument panel. Thanks for the video!

Nice 225 there! Is she yours still? I had a five door 225 in the same gorgeous metallic orange colour. It was viciously quick and I suspect it had been played around with, it was brutal! Sounded great and handled well too. I wish I'd never sold it 🙁 I'm a big fan of Renaults too!

Feature length, I cannot wait to sit down and view this uninterrupted. Appreciate and respect you sharing your passion with us, even if it's a bit different than your normal content. I think many folks interested in old tech like old cars too, or at least have a passing interest. Now cars are so close they may even be closer than computer-adjacent... You're on to something here! Edit: It’s a lovely piece of passion you’ve made here, thank you for sharing. As you said it’s not cheap, but if you ever consider making another car video... please do!

Wonderful video! I'm in Canada and French cars are virtually non existent but it's great to hear the history as I've always thought that 80s to early 90s French cars were some of the coolest of the era (19, Fuego, BX, CX, 205 GTI, 309 GTI)

Fantastic video - very well done indeed! I must admit though, I was obsessed with the FIAT Tipo at the time.......

Thanks for this ! I’m French and I love cars too. I’m a bit more into Peugeot but you did an amazing work ! I don’t think that someone already did that for a 90’s French car ! Thank you.

Thanks for this lovely trip down memory lane. I also learned to drive in a Renault 19 that my Dad and I owned together. I thought I’d take a quick gander at eBay to see if I could acquire one again. There used to be so many for sale, but now just one at four and half grand! Wish I’d kept my old one now.

That was just tremendous. The family hand me down GTS-X was my first car, and every vehicle I’ve had since has been an attempt to reference how that car made me feel.

This was frikin awesome! I have big love for these cars, and have driven in a lot of Renault 9's and 12's (they're still very widely used in Turkey) I will similarly to this car about VW polos mk2 - SO MANY OPTIONS IN THOSE MANUALS! (I had one from 1981 with an MPG meter and a single wing mirror to reduce drag) Love it - thanks for the entertainment!

Awesome video! I learned much more here about the R19 than on my home channels in France. And very surpirsed too that Renault was also popular in the UK 🇫🇷 🇬🇧

As someone who had a similar Renault childhood, I loved this so much. The 80's of Renault were very special to me and bring back good memories. Between my father and I, we've owned the following: R4, R6, R10, R12 (x2), R16 (x2), R18 (x2), R20, R30, Clio (x3), Megane (Mk1 and Mk3 x2), Zoe. I've also driven a 25 as a dealer hire car during a service :-)

Love those classic retro adverts, those lovely lines, the curves, stylish looks and the way they handle themselves.....and then there were the cars too :)

For an early 80’s design they have aged really well! Always fancied a 19 16v still love the look now, shame there’s not many about 😢
