It never ceases to amaze me how many people fall for the "I know you're not like this" from a detective they've known for a collective two hours max who is clearly trying to wrangle a confession of guilt out of them.
why shouldn't he fall for it? He is guilty and some people don't want to look like complete monsters by not cooperating when they know they have evidence that he did it. He would just walk around the world knowing everyone knows he killed her and won't give the family the body.
Maybe it’s a self image think, while the guilty party is in their own head trying to justify they aren’t a horrible person after killing someone, anyone saying they are better than that is like a shining light. I’m entirely fantasizing tho lol
When you are at your lowest, anything seems believable. Plenty of people hire bad professionals and pay them above the standard rate because they reassure the client that it will all be fine.
A lot of it is just the wearing down of their mental fortitude and exhausting them to the point where they dont feel like they can keep up the lies anymore. So as long as the detectives outwork them mentally, what they say isnt AS important as wearing them out mentally to where they cant lie anymore
@@pseudonym50 the storage already exists. Whoever invents institutions that would either care or know how to upgrade decade-old systems - that guy is gonna be rich.
@@LoisoPondohva the storage exists for sure but the main reasons institutions refuse to upgrade is because of cost IMO. not that it's not a worthy investment but they just don't wanna go balls deep on 100s of terabytes of storage cause "if it aint broke don't fix it." keep in mind an hour of 1080p video is just over a gigabyte and having to store all that over a long term (something like 200 GB per day per camera for up to 90 days) poses a definite challenge. Either way ur right, institutions don't care to spend money on this sort of thing, but the less it costs the more they start to consider it.
@@pseudonym50 sure, and if it was free, they would upgrade even sooner. The point is, cost is rarely a deciding factor in institutions. It's lack of will and initiative. The relative cost of systems that are currently installed in most government institutions was far more at the time of their installment, than a cost of comparable 1080p system now. They were installed just because the need became undeniable as old systems aged. Current systems haven't aged to that extent, and the process of dragging upgrades through all the instances of decision-making, procurement and installation is a long process itself. And 1080p video is 40 gb per 24 hours, not 200. Neither are 24-hour feeds stored for 3 months. But suppose they were. That makes a 10-camera system of 1080p video producing 400 gb per day, making it 36 tb in 3 months. And that is 600 - 1200$ in HDDs. Less than it typically costs to state to hold ONE inmate for that time by a factor of 2-5 depending on the state.
Good! That monster needs to relive every disgusting moment of that poor girl's last minutes on earth. I hope he is tormented by Savannah every second of his miserable existence!
@@jannetteberends8730I'm not sure if that was the direct reason she was acting that way-- I think it was just an emotional subject-- but I can see it being an added bonus
I see people here saying the female detective's emotions got in the way, and so on, but I think it was an excellent strategy for two reasons. First she totally blind sides him by going from silence, using her phone, totally uninterested etc, to full hysterics, which I think disoriented him. Second is total conjecture from me but I think her begging him to tell her, continuously saying 'please, please, Lee' was to almost imitate the victim in a sense to heighten his anxiety, and also to psychologically give him a chance to 'do things right' this time round. If you notice this was during and after they were building him up saying he wasn't evil, it was probably a mistake or an overdose. I think it was a really interesting strategy and I'm sure they chose a woman to play this part for a good reason. Anyway, it worked.
I think she was just trying to humanize Savannah, and getting emotional, whether real or acting, was a way of demonstrating Savannah's humanity which affected the killer.
Talking about how he was probably thinking a million different things while sitting in the interrogation room for 90 minutes and somehow “call a fucking lawyer” wasn’t one of them.

I think the saddest part to me, other than Savannah’s passing, is the fact that she was able to kick the door open multiple times!! She was fighting to get out! Honestly it’s hard to even be able to attempt to get out of a situation like that and she tried more than once to get out! I could only imagine if that happened to me, which it definitely could have since I met up with strangers in my late teens and early 20s. This poor girl, RIP and I hope this guy is having a very bad time in prison.
Im somewhat glad that hoe has been reunited with the sea. Because as a commi chef at the place at the time, I can attest to the fact that this nasty woman squ irted in the tempura batter many times, or even on an order of mussels. But since female nectar tastes like fish anyways, none of the customers could tell the difference. But it's still incredibly wrong to contaminate perfectly good food like that. I just find it laughable how every feminist claims, she's a "strong independent woman" & doesn't need man & easily is as strong or even stronger than the average men. But scenarios like that prove, that it's not even remotely true. Neither could she change her own tires or lift some bricks to build a wall with. Delusional women fool themselves, & deep down they don't believe it themselves. And so a young woman had to leave her life, due to the arrogance & narcissistic nature of her fellow peers. Maybe this could have all been prevented if she left her vag out of the salad bowls & just did her job as a waitress & just accepted her place in the world, without trying to step up. Like the bible always used to say: "Pride Cometh before thy Fall" And now look where her behavior got her... Does no one research the mentality & short temper of a chef before they go work in that field? Gordon Ramsay snapped at a waiter once & fired him for drinking water infront of customers & then serving them from the same bottle, in his newly opened restaurant Aubergine back in the early 2000s. And if something like that gets you fired & yelled at til you have tears in your eyes...I can't say that Im surprised for getting the life force squeezed out of you for squi rting i to the food. LAMAFO 😅
It's so odd to me that people will text friends/family of their victim from the victim's phone in a COMPLETELY different "voice" and think they have themselves covered. Some people who commit crimes really don't have enough brain cells to think things through.

Him crying “mom I’m gonna die when I’m in jail” is the most infuriating thing. Clearly he does not give a f about what he’s done to Savannah, only worries about having to live with the consequences.
Which is a normal human response to awaiting unstoppable consequences. If this was you, you'd be worried about what's coming and how your life will be immensely altered by force. Even if he would be a person that felt really guilty and a deep sorrow about their actions, it would only be natural to worry about yourself atm and trying to avoid consequences, unless you've given up on life anyways.
@@auri2969 Sure, most of us do. And funnily, most people who are in for manslaughter would've never thought they'd ever have to think about that. But you'd probably agree, that every single one of us could potentially come into a situation where we act erratically, totally out of character, maybe absolutely angry and even aggressive towards someone. There's people who do not or can not cherish life, or willingly bring havoc. And then there's good people who got into a situation where they ended up doing something bad. Rodarte was ultimately found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to 40 years in prison. He received this verdict as part of a plea deal, which allowed him to take a reduced sentence if he changed his plea to guilty. Lee Rodarte is 31 years old and is serving his 40-year sentence in a Florida prison. He will be 71 at the time of his release.
Unfortunately he probably won't do the full 40. He deserves to serve that and more don't get me wrong but often people get credit for pre-sentence time (like in detention centers they often give you 1.5 to 2 days credit off your sentence for every day you serve), they file appeals to get time reduced for good behavior, poor prison conditions and/or cooperation in other cases (prison snitches) and finally parole which usually they go for once they complete two thirds of their sentence. That means he'll start seeing the parole board after 26 years or so. He deserves to be buried under the prison for what he did but it's unlikely he will actually serve the full 40 before getting out. He's serving time in a Florida State Prison though, which will be Hell on Earth for him. The 30-35 years he does serve will be torture thankfully. Just seen the part where they said they took him to the Duvall County Jail. No doubt in my mind dude had a rough go in there. One of the roughest jails in the entire USA. He probably got beat, extorted, turned out and all that.
Nah, Florida law is a minimum of 85% of a sentence has to be served. Inmates have the ability to get gaintime (10 days for every month) but can only apply that gaintime to however long the last 15% calculates out to. But the 15% off your sentence isn't guranteed and still must be earned throughout your sentence through work programs and education/good behavior.
@@lenabanx6221 Oh damn I never knew that about Florida. Florida basically does the same thing the Feds do with the 85% thing. So that means he has to serve a minimum of 34 years right?
He won't be 71. Even if for some reason he doesn't get released early (which is likely), he was already credited with time served, so from his sentencing date he'd do a max 38. Still good to have him locked up til he's officially missed out and the best years if his life.

I often come back to the few videos remaining on this channel. Their are many imitators on this platform but none come close to the quality of JCS. It's funny, he killed her because she was going to "ruin his life" by causing him to lose his girlfriend and his job. And yet, he decided to make his life exponentially worse than it would have been if he had lost those things by killing her. She wouldn't have ruined his life- she would have ruined what he had at that time (you could argue he ruined it himself), but you can get a new job and a new girlfriend. They really think they can't possibly be caught?
@mydemonswontleavemealone Just because a few police are racist, it doesnt mean all are. I am by no means saying that police brutality is alright, but it doesnt occur with most cops so why blame all cops? If a chef murders someone, it doesnt mean that all chefs are murderers, right?
@mydemonswontleavemealone I have done my research and I can say that a 99% rate of police being racist is completely absurd. What I would like to ask you though is this: if there is an armed robbery at a bank or store, who will be there to stop it and discourage future crimes from happening if police are out of the picture?

I have a somewhat hard time believing Lee didn't kill her on purpose given she had tried to escape the vehicle three times in a row and he hid the body, but a second degree murder charge is better than none
That’s not what second degree murder means. You’re thinking of manslaughter. Second degree murder just means it’s not clearly premeditated, which him doing a relatively stupid killing after talking to her for 10 minutes kind of indicates it wasn’t premeditated, and certainly doesn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was premeditated.

How long did you know Savannah? Lee: Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them..
A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang, and although his airbending skills are great, he still has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone.
The world has changed. I see it in the water. I feel it in the Earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, For none now live who remember it.
Yeah, and did you notice he mentioned "She went missing for three or four days from work"? He may as well have added, "So I don't think you guys should be thinking she's been murdered or anything like that."
My heart breaks for this woman and her family. So young and beautiful. She deserved so much more life. When Lee said 'this is the last time I'll be wearing a chefs jacket', and degrading himself, I felt so sad. Don't get me wrong, what he did was disgusting and horrifying, and he treated her body with so much disrespect. He deserved whatever sentence he got. I'm glad he was found. But the emotional/compassionate side of me feels so sad that this man ruined his own life. There's something about watching the moment somebody's dreams disappear and their futures destroyed, their own fault or not...makes me feel sad. I feel greater sadness for the victims who also lost their future, of course. I'm sure there is something in psychology that can explain why some of us feel sadness when a criminal ruins their own life.
I think you might feel this way because all humans have the capacity to become this kind of depraved evil, but they also have the capacity to become excellent and good people. It is sad when people throw that away, but it's important to realize that anyone can do it.
You know that really socially awkward person at a party who gives three word answers to open ended questions and can't keep a conversation going? Be that person during interrogations.
This to me is the most fascinating case that Jim has ever covered. Im 99.99% certain that Lee could have not made the decision he did that day and lived the rest of his life without ever hurting a fly, and Savannah would still be alive. Mad shit
Interesting how he is the only person on any JCS video who shows some remorse while alone in the interview room. "I'm so sorry Savannah...You're a real piece of shit Lee...You killed that poor girl." Literally no one else on any other video shows even an INCH of remorse beyond themselves. Sure that pops up too, but he is the *only one to show ANY REMORSE independent of themselves.* So for him to go back on that...why? You admitted what you did, so plead guilty and take the lesser punishment. They are going to give you life or the needle if you take this to trial...where did that remorse go?
_"All that police could ascertain is that he had short brown hair and was roughly 5"11."_ Looking at the camera footage, I'm surprised they could tell a human committed the crime.
