Hey Guys! Octane Restorations back here with another Motorcycle restoration! Today we have a 1988 Goldwing GL1500 in the shop that has been sitting for over a decade. This is actually a motorcycle I bought for myself and plan on riding after I get it running! Today's video is the 17th step in that process, Fixing a bad fuel pump. Thanks for watching, please consider liking and subscribing if you enjoyed the video!

I'm sorry the company quit taking your calls. But you're right, it is still cheaper in the long run.

Good job as always. My “new” OEM went intermittent so I did what you did but with a different vender. Works great. Pls keep doing these GL1500’s, they are great bikes and most can be returned to the road with a few parts and TLC.

Thank you very much for the comments, glad you were able to fix it! And yeah when they run good they run really good!

@@octanerestorations You wouldn’t happen to be doing a video on removing the fans and radiators would you? I have to replace the two hoses that go to the base of the carbs and did not really want to remove the manifolds to do so. I do have a manual but a vid would be better. Best to you and keep fixing up those 1500’s. They are awesome bikes with some TLC. Built to last!

@@JohnStruemph I am sorry John but at this point I do not have those videos, I might make some in the future but it will probably be a while. Thank you!

I cant hear mine running either and it works fin, as far as I know it's the OEM one in there. I just saw this in my list and clicked it to see what's up. I have replaced ( rebuilt fuel assemblies ) in TONS of cars and trucks. I haven't ever done one on the bike ( mines a 99 aspencade ) . Just from looking at what you have done here though, I wonder if a guy could get the specs for that pump and find one that is not even labeled for the bike. and use it instead. I mean, a reputable name brand pump that operates better. In my days of fuel pump happenings, I have done a ton of research, The cheap knock offs and MANY of the supposed better pumps have FEWER Vanes on the rotor of the armature, so in a car one that you take apart and pull the actual encase pump, if you were to take the case off to see what caused the failure - you might find that the armature has 6 vanes, but a better model would have 8 or even Ten. the larger the gap between the vanes the sloppier the motor is going to run in my experience. AC/Deco used to have a great product - then they switched form the MEXICO plant to China BS Mexico plant Tested the model they were putting out - pretty extensively, so essentially running them to be sure that they were within specs! Chins does not do that, on any of them. they build them and then FU to the customer. so the ones with the more vanes operate better because they spin with less slop, I mean so smooth you can feel the torque and the gyroscopic feel in your wrist ( like I was saying, I have experimented with these damned things because I could in my circumstances having done SO MANY) You cannot take them apart and put them back together by the way, LOL. the exam ruins the pump. so it's hard to tell unless a company posts a Specs sheet and even better an exploded View of the internal workings of their pumps. so far then best ones I have ever come across are not being made right anymore and that is an OLD ( Pre 2004 ) Mexico made and tested , AC Delco. I know, sucks butt to think about. LOL having this old aspencade and seeing your video though is making me think I should start preparing for this happening. LOL Down the rabbit hole I go. whoever is charging 300 bucks for a motor for this is a complete scammer. there is nothing in a fuel pump motor that would ever cost anything close to that. the only reason that could even happen is because SOME PEOPLE HAVE PAID that much. quit doing that.

Thank you for the comment! I have heard on some of the forums that some of the fuel pumps for the older honda accords (maybe the accord, it was one of their 80s-90s model carbureted cars) (that have a carburetor) are compatible with the right flow volume and psi. The fuel injected are way to high as far as pressure goes. But a genuine honda fuel pump if you could get it for the right price would be the way to go! And I always just check the petcock first to see if it'll fill up with gasoline. I can honestly say I have never gotten one of these motorcycles with a working fuel pump, so I cannot speak from experience how quiet it is in the tank. I have unseized a few of them and they do seem quieter!

My recommendation, buy a proper crimping tool. The one you are using is junk. Channellock makes a great one.

I have finally gotten one, and you're correct it does make a world of difference! I had just always used one of these so it is what I was used to, but you're right it is way better!
