This could benefit from a night's sleep to work it through. My first response is that I have intrinsic worth solely being a child of God. My self image worth is subjective -- am I effective at the vocation I've chosen (hopefully) -- am I a good husband, father and grandfather (I want to be because it's important to me) -- was I a good son and brother (sadly the days where the answer is yes have few memories, and the failures are too vivid) -- am I as healthy as I should be (my health appears in conflict with my distractions and desires). So maybe I'm a failure at nearly everything I do, but I hope I have value and I hope that any given day I can make a difference in the life of someone else. I pray to be a mentor to those willing to learn through my failures. Ultimately my joy occurs because of my relationship with my God, and my wish regarding others, is that joy to be obvious when others see me.

Thank you for the comment that's very interesting, let me ask you a question that popped into my mind: imagine that God didn't exist, would you still see enough value to justify the suffering, would you see any value at all and if it is to be found in earthly life, what would it be in your opinion?
@wutmaa5832
@wutmaa5832 Год назад
@@moekiemissa5731 I think that if all that is in life is physical reality as we see and experience it, that those who obsess with satisfying their desires and obsess and create an idol over "their truth" in the idea that there is a deeper MORE real subjective self- I think those people become correct. If there is nothing outside of physical observable reality, then LGBTQIA2+ and committing suicide when you get too depressed to deal with life anymore suddenly lose all immoral connotations, and I think that the moral collectivism argument becomes closer to truth than any other argument. I also think that the idea that anything can exist without God, is such an inconceivable concept that no matter how much we think we will never be able to understand what creation without a creator actually approximates because it is an anti-truth.
@moekiemissa5731
@moekiemissa5731 Год назад
@@wutmaa5832there is a very central idea that those who do not serve and believe in the one true God, will go to hell. Seeing society become increasingly pathological and studying history made me realise hell doesn't need to exist in another dimension or the inside of the earth in order to be a real thing. The good news is that reality is boundless in potential, the bad news that there are more paths to hell than to heaven. I wonder if every false idol, with enough time, leads to hell. All is belief.
@randycliff4045
@randycliff4045 Год назад
@@moekiemissa5731 Once somebody learns the truth, denying the discovery becomes impossible -- yet some people do manage just that. I didn't meet Jesus until after I was married, so an answer to your question could be from that preceding time for me. Everyday was basically going through the motions -- being a reasonably good person, interested in helping family, friends or ever strangers. Got married because it seems right, found work for the same reason, always wanted children but yet again the same reason. Some people suffered, some didn't, most people has more money than me but a lot had none. Nothing made much difference. Being a child of God makes your world vast, you become insignificant in the broad scope yet unique and special primarily because everyone is invited to have a personal relationship with Jesus -- the friend that never dismisses me regardless of how badly I screw things up. That friendship and counsel permits me to discover the individual ways I impact the people around me, thus giving me a greater value than everyone else (in the things that make me unique). Surviving this epiphany is predicated on understanding my ego -- I am smarter than everyone around me (in some small way) while I'm also a student of everyone I experience. Thus what is a paradox to some, is clear to me only because I submitted to the authority of the omniscient God, and it became logical to me to surrender to this all-knowing God ... because I no longer need to know all the answers.

I agree with you Peterson. Throughout life, I always found or at least felt the notion of everybody being valuable- just for existing, to be flat. Like some mantra people tell to others, something to make them feel good about themselves. I find that this idea would only be true, if there is indeed a God who created us to his image, and therefor metaphorically left his fingerprint on us, and as God is God, we are all valuable just by being made by his hand. Would a parent think that one of its children is more valuable than the other? The parent could certainly think and feel different about them, but think one is more valuable than the other? I don't fully know, but I doubt that. (Speaking about more or less mentally healthy people, obviously).

People are inherently valuable because they have inherent potential. That potential can be manifested for good or bad. It needs to be nurtured and cultivated to help achieve more positive manifestations. We know this perfectly well yet we fail to do this, consistently. Increasingly bad/non-existent parenting, outdated and unimaginative mainstream education systems and increasing disconnectedness through an overly digitised environment. We have become more fascinated by the products of our endeavours, rather than the potential we possess and the processes and dynamics we have established that effectively and meaningfully produce those products, which, in the context of the arts especially, are undoubtedly deteriorating. This imbalance must be addressed if we are to live fulfilling and meaningful lives.

Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Think of a tool box. Each tool in the box has its purpose, and is specifically fitted for that purpose, and may not be applicable to any other purpose than the one for which it's fitted. Take a hammer... would you use it to remove a bolt? Take a wrench... would you use it to drive a nail? Sure, they may be adaptive, and have some cross-utility, but they are not of the same value in the case of specific usage requirements. Likewise, people are of value in their own specific respects, but they are not of equal value in the application of their roles, therefore, each person is not of "equal value" in every circumstance. Now, back to the tool box... each tool is of value, but not of "equal value" in every circumstance, but nevertheless, they are each of value in their own respects.

I hear some address to concern of mine with your "in the eyes of god" post-fix. This is an abstraction that I think is necessary for infinite reasons. But I cant integrate the rejection of categorical imperative with this. Maybe you didnt reject it and im believing in words im puttingn in your mouth. but I still believe them. none the less is it top lobster hierarchy or all lobsters have thier own flavor that is worth enhancing? proabbaly both. Matthew 13:18-23 18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. 20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended. 22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

God created us in His image. He gave us each the capability for good and evil. Then He gave us free will. He knew that us loving Him had to be our personal choice otherwise it is not real love. We are to turn away from our sins and seek God. So, there are no “bad” guys and no “good” guys. Each of us are both bad and good to differing degrees and incapable of living up to God’s laws in the Old Testament. This is the reason for Jesus. Jesus said He did not come to enforce the law, but to fulfill the law. The wages of sin is spiritual death. No one is capable of a sinless life and therefore we all must die a spiritual death. Jesus fulfilled the law by taking all of man’s sins and dying for us, spiritually and physically. This is the reason Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.” I hope this explanation helps in some way.

But people who think competition is a standard to justify mistreating others are evil. People are valuable because in each emotion there is a lesson for everyone and a time for us to practice what we say we believe. Value is seen by those who value every lesson we learn. Just because they dont make money for society or money for themselves there is value because if we didnt see how others struggle or get to experience helping them then how would we learn compassion? If there was no bad how would we know what good was
@bryannsotomayor2575
@bryannsotomayor2575 Год назад
I don't think that's true and I don't think that's why we are valuable. You say that we are valuable because in each emotion there is a lesson for everyone. I don't think that's true. Grandma feels the frustration of opening a jar of marinara sauce, and there is no lesson there for you to learn and that doesn't make grandma valuable. Or a 20 year old on a Friday night feels the emotion of sexual arousal and there's no lesson there for me to learn in that either and that doesn't make that 20 year old inherintly valuable. Also, animals feel emotions all the time. You also say that we are inherintly valuable because there's a time for us to practice what we say we believe. I don't think that's true either, that just because there might be a time for us to practice what we say we believe in makes us valuable. Adolf Hitler had his time to practice what he said he believe in, and I don't think that gives him an inherit value. I don't think you're taking your words seriously enough to try to understand what makes people valuable. Instead, you are just saying things that sound good or sound right, but that a little examination expose them to not hold true. I'd encourage you to take your words as seriously as you can and examine them and test them before coming to conclusions. Otherwise you'd end up with a lot of fluff that sounds good but is not useful because it doesn't hold true.
@Huckleberry04
@Huckleberry04 Год назад
@@bryannsotomayor2575 there is value in grandma not being able to open a jar. It gives someone the opportunity to help out someone else. There is value in sexual arousal because you can learn to deny yourself instead of always giving into base desires there is value in animals feelings because you get to hone your skills to recognize their needs they cant voice it also teaches you to recognize needs of babies who have no voice. Your inability to even see such basic truth is a sign of immaturity. There was value in me being homeless and poor and depressed and just because I wasnt capable of being productive doesn't mean I was trash
@Huckleberry04
@Huckleberry04 Год назад
@@bryannsotomayor2575 I can see you have never practiced compassion or never had an opportunity to. We learn by practice just like learning a new job. If you dont practice you can never learn and if you dont have someone to practice on you can not learn to control your emotions or to show kindness. If everyone was self sufficient to the point we didnt need each other then how could we learn to help each other. So just because you find no value in people doesn't mean there isnt any.
