I had to watch 12 Hours of an old BDD Tournament in order to find the timestamps for each event occuring. If that doesn't deserve a sub and a like..... Two things to note, I did a cringe edit at 11 minutes and forgot to delete the blur. Also, the Wii theme part was intentionally done with low volume as the song features copyright, and so I made subtitles in order to make it easier to understand. This was an intentional choice! Enjoy the cringe :D
@@SgtFrogger right. I genuinely don’t understand how people think it’s racist. His argument for it being racist could apply to Ace because he is a quiet white guy.
@@lryiss9407it's like getting mad at nurse, spirit or blight for the same thing. I can hear survivors now "YOUR ONLY SUPPOSED TO USE THAT WHEN DOWNING PEOPLE"
I'll be honest from the first clip I thought they were just a little bad and thought you were being harsh, but every detail that adds in the story makes me die inside. this being an official tournament held by these jerks is just nuts
that "blendette is racist" thing is so stupid. Back in the day claudette literally had darker clothes which made her vanish into thin air since the game was MUCH darker back in the day. add on prestige 3 clothing and she is even more harder to see. She literally blends into the environment which is why she was nicknamed that, do not be afraid to call it what it is because of stupid Twitter morons
I was in his team (Zenboon). I dont remember the details, i guess i forgot about it since it was such a terrible tournament. But watching this back, i get flashbacks and remember it was laggy and felt very unfair. But i had a great laugh watching this video... i knew back then it was terrible, but now i can see how bad it actually was...
In old DBD lefort (nurse player) was a streamer who was abusing all DBD bugs at that moment. Lag switch, deceive strike bug (where u just skip skill check and after 5 seconds u just got off from killer shoulder) etc so it's not surprising me that he wanted to take advantage in the tournament also. I mean in Russia most content makers did hate him and dbd players too 💀
It’s moreso essentialist depending on the context which can contextually have negative racial/colorist bias. *In caveman terms (since I’m getting attacked for not putting it simpler):* Context actually matters. It’s not impossible that calling someone dark, or whatever can have a negative connotation, or malicious intent.
Too many subjects are over simplified and reduced to one thing, or the other which just leads to more people not understanding anything. Then the lower the bar is (much like everything is nowadays), the less likely anyone is WILLING to expand their knowledge whether that be in history, sociology, economics, etc. I don’t expect people to be that well versed in those 3 fields but even with a base line level knowledge on them can go a long way on it’s own in terms of understanding complex topics, ideas, and subject matter.
@@chandy. If you don’t know what I’m even saying… You are either a pre-teenager, incredibly ignorant on the very topic you speak of, don’t speak English as your first language/well at all, or AOTA. My apologies if so, but I can’t be bothered to over extend if you just won’t understand anything. It’s like if I explained why 8 x 8 = 64 to someone who doesn’t know times tables. It’s pointless unless you know the basics. Have a great day tho!
I remember watching this live back in the day being speechless over how clueless the commentators were, the comment with Hillbilly using his chainsaw for mobility is still stuck in my head to this day. Thank you for making this video Mintskull & documenting this peculiar event in DbD's history.
I love how excited they are when they announced that Not_queen:This is the first ever DBD tournament endorsed by us,the developers And they are all like "😀cool"
I watched this live and I can confirm that the chat was losing their shit over what these commentators would say. Those huge wait times between matches were absolutely horrible too.
Ive never even heard of Valhalla. What an odd joke lol. I dont really mind it tho. Its a video game, they dont have to be professional about it. Its kinda dumb how they didnt even understand the game at all tho
While some things like the boring map choice and bad balance were acceptable at the time (a lot of tournaments had a no perks rule and played on Coal Tower since it was considered the most "balanced" map) other things like the unprofessional casters, poor rulings, and theft of community artwork were absolutely unacceptable.
Explaining why Claud has an advantage is not racist. The blendette = racism thing is very stupid, I've been playing since 2016 and nobody said blendette as a racist term.
True, plus Blendette was the term used specifically for Claudette because most of her cosmetics were extremely dark and fantastic for blending into most(if not all) of the maps at the time. So it didn't even really matter what map she was on, there was a cosmetic for everything. (Until the Legion DLC came out with the map Mount Ormond.)
Great retrospect of a prior event in DBD history. You did a lot of research for this which I appreciate - It's nice being able to share a piece of history I experienced with my friends who are newer to DBD. One thing I would mention though about the Claudette portion at 6:20 in the video. I don't agree with it being racist - If the term "Blendette" is what this is about and becoming racist it's only empowering actual racist by fearmongering the topic and term. Blendette is a meta term in the DBD community to describe a character who could just vanish by sitting still in darker areas. It's not necessarily just about her skin color but also how dark the maps were. It was never inherently racist until people tried to make it racist similar to the Bubba mask incident. I would agree the term is dated because it's not relevant anymore and only older players would get it but I can't agree that it's racist. I get it though you got to play it safe as a RU-vidr so I get that. I'm not upset about the mentioning I just hate seeing genuinely innocent history in a game tarnished by assholes.
I agree about the history of the nickname. I personally do not find Blendette as racist and I know why it was created, and it was definetly not because of malicious intent, as it was just a nickname like Meghead, Sabojake or Dweets. But I know POC watch my channel, and that Blendette has been used various times to harass POC so I would rather not partake into those topics and keep it safe for everyone to watch. That’s why I let Otz talk for me!
@@MintSkull That's fair enough and I do understand it's just frustrating how bad actors fuck things up for everyone else. Also want to clarify on my original comment - I was not calling you an asshole I was referring to the people trying to turn harmless things or even in the case of Bubba's mask into an item of hate. It's more like this is why we can't have nice things type of situation. Regardless - Thank you for the video I appreciate all the research you put into it.
@@ohnod No worries! I like to add some comedic touch to my videos. Saying something is racist and then proceeding to have Otz say it was funny for me because of the absolute irony of that moment and at the same time, acknowledgement that the term is outdated and some use it for hate, but it seems like nobody catched that 💀
I wish people would realize that not every game needs to be an esports tournament with professional players and rules. Sometimes a game should just be good unbalanced fun
Depends how “unbalanced” you get though, infinite loops for example, those are game breaking and can’t stay, perks like dead hard and decisive in their hay days were way too strong and couldn’t stay, but to an extent yes
That's a flawed idea. Too much of the community wants it to be competitive. If we really wanted the major issues in dbd fixed all they would have to do is make a casual game mode and a ranked
The best time of DBD was before people tried to turn it into an Esport. Now it's just a ruined mess with tryhards on both sides constantly whining about stuff being unbalanced in a party game.
Honestly, I don't understand why people think saying Claudette blends in well is racist. She has dark skin, she wears dark clothes, and the maps are often dark. there is nothing negative or derogatory being said about her, she is just a dark character. Mentioning someone's skin tone and talking about their skin tone's strategic value isn't racist, judging people based on their skin tone is.
this is so funny to someone that started playing this game 2 years ago, I never knew this was a thing but after watching this video, what a fookin embarrassment that was hahah. I cant believe my eyes what I've just seen, the amount of poor and amateur-ish commentators and everything else is insane. How was this a thing hahah, had me laughing so much. Great video MintSkull, enjoyed it a lot.
@@dekudude8888 your evidence? btw, The depip squad was going against killers using a variative of builds from meme to the sweatiest of sweaty. If you are referring to camping, tunneling, or slugging, there is a reason those tactics are considered problematic by everyone except for BHVR, the DbD, Comp scene, and their supporters.
I feel like that's such a small percentage of players it's not fair to say "survivors" referring to them as a whole. I think from a core gameplay standpoint survivor is easier without perks but still damn near impossible for the average player.
@@user-nn1fx1nc7e That's because when you consider the average skill vs ease of play (especially when factoring for swf [many players are very boosted by playing heavily in swfs]), in your average match up the killer is going to be of notable skill higher than the survivors. This staggered match making gives the game an appearance of balance. Place the teams closer to the top of their skill ceiling, and survivor almost always wins (96%), this is partly due to killers having a much lower skill ceiling than survivor and thus not as capable as survivors of equal skill.
Seriously that part just made me cringe so damn hard. How someone could be so scared of people online saying how hes somehow racist just by saying her darker complexion makes her the best in terms of hiding.
I never cared for this tournaments cause I didnt think this game is esports or was back in the day. Now i feel like i actually missed on something. Sounds like real clown fiesta! Great content from MintSkull as always! o7
I remember competing in the Xbox one for this. The behind the scenes of trying to even get the match started was a night for because their spectators could never properly connect. My team gave up first round so we could all just go to bed because of how long it was taking
Saying that Claudette has dark skin is a statement of fact, not a judgement based off of prejudice, thus not racist. However it's better to be extra cautious than not cautious at all.
@@MintSkull We live in a time where some noisy people claim that racism is everywhere, and even normal neutral statements can end up in a shitstorm. It's a joke to you but nowadays it's 100% plausible to have this statement said seriously on the internet. It's puzzling you don't see that and instead saying that some commentators are dense...
@@MintSkull You were arguing in this very comment section that Blendette is racist because it's being used to apparently harass POC, that wasn't a joke in the slightest and you defended your stance, why try to lie just 2 days later?
@@The_B_Button Because as a content creator I do not get to decide what is offensive or not, even if I myself disagree with it. I do not believe it is racist, so I made the joke of Otzdarva saying the reality, which is that Claudette was used for camo because she was practically invisible in old maps. However what is not a joke is that people attack POC by calling them Blendettes in a despective manner, so I would rather stop using that term since it is also outdated and POC watch my content. Both statements can be true at the same time, so what is hard to understand? My issue with this entire debate is that it all sparked from an ironic moment of my video which was not even the main focus. Everyone disregards the effort I put on the content of this video because I made a joke about Blendette being racist. And it just shows to me that maybe the ones calling people snowflakes are the actual snowflakes in this conversation. Of course I am not calling out everyone because there have been respectful comments about this topic. I also compared this to the Blackface Bubba thing because the exact thing happened then. I do not think it was racist. I do not agree with it being blackface. But people DID harass and target black content creators, and that is not a topic to joke about.
I remember watching this tournament as some friends who participated were in it. They lost first round to lagswitchers (eu to ru connection) and the tournament winners killer player was literally wallhacking lmfao.
Ppl trying to push calling claudette blendette racist is insane, tho it is 2023 mental illness is rampant in ppl, but she got that title simply due to being very hard to see with the older lighting to the game.
6:31 Not everything is racist. It's a game that, during that time, was very dark in coloration and the character has dark skin, that is just a statement of fact. What an embarrassing mentality.
Didn't this happen twice? I recall there being a tournament that had newbie players, a lot of rules in terms of perks and such, and all of them having had a key to the at that point already locked Stranger Things content
I cant believe you experienced 12+ hours of cringe (im sure it was so much more during editing) just for our entertainment! I never knew about this. Thanks for finding the best cringe moments for us 😎
I never knew about this, being very casual and fairly new, but oh god everything is so painfully bad. I don't know how BHRV could choose to bull ahead with such a half-baked idea, but I suppose the blessing in disguise is that it set the bar for player-made tourneys/scrim nights going forward.
Late comment but thank you Mint, I followed dbd closely from just after it’s release and bought it once it released on console in mid-2017. I got twitch specifically to watch this stream & what a fever dream it was. Generally don’t think I’ve thought about this stream in half a decade this is stop being mentioned at all by the dbd community about a year after it happened. What a trip down memory lane this was
Actually I saw a tournament made by a little content creator at this time and it was better handled bruh this guys were sheep throw in the ruthless community of wolf of DBD I imagine the disappointed and despised that the members of the community have felt
It probably wont happen but id love for dbd to try again. Just learn from their mistakes and pick it back up because it would be amazing to see a competitive scene for this game!
19:40 A blessing in disguise. Considering how lots of current changes are brought by tryhards and swf abusing broken perks, items and their addons, this game would have died before reaching year 3, if you made a casual game - stick to your guns and let it be casual, nobody wants competetive dbd other than sweats with superiority complex, and unfortunately, that's the kind of people bhvr licks ass to ever since adding looping into the game, so despite the time, we still have issues with competetive integration into the game that bhvr are just too afraid to fix because of backlashing like back then.
Wow, this was a very interesting video. Back in these days, I just started to play the game and I didn't follow this tournament at all so thank you for this recap especially now that I have way more knowledge about dbd's old and new mechanics
I clicked this thinking that surely nothing can top the cringe and awfulness that was the "Valhalla" tournament a few years ago. 😂 It was such an awful train wreck to behold. While there was plenty wrong with the tournament from BHVR's side, Space Esports felt like they were trying to be as unprofessional as possible. Some of the creators I was looking forward to watch play ended up being so freaking late that I fell asleep waiting.
Ohhh god I saw someone in chat ask if Jendenise is in the tournament 😂😂😂😂😂 that girl was BEYOND toxic and I remember her from back in the day. All those simps and ladies who fell for her fake act still makes me laugh to this day
I remember her wretched ass. Depipping off stream, always playing swf with her buttplug Edgar and bringing the sweatiest build against 10-hour killers LMAO. Then being called out for being toxic, hiding behind her army of simps and citing her "mental health" as a reason or taking a break. Vile and manipulative entity all around.
I’m glad you added subtitles for this part because the audio is so low. I had my browser and headphones on max and it was still barely audible. No offense to you MintSkull, it was probably the original video file’s fault, but I found this amusing. I love dbd to death and I wish the devs would take it seriously. It has the potential to be competitive, but most of the maps need to be adjusted for balance and some perks need to be toned down. The only reason the game doesn’t feel extremely unbalanced is because of solo queue, which evens it out by default. SWFs, if played right, are the most powerful thing in the entire game. 15:30
I had been a part of the community for a few months at that point and I remember the absolute hype of the 2 year anniversary. That being said I didn't have nearly as much interest in competitive dbd so the tourney kinda slipped under my radar... and boy am I glad it did XD
@@coach_fleming_3353 There was a ruling regarding "hatch standoffs" that whoever reached the hatch first was considered to have won. Marth88 reached the hatch first and hit the Survivor, to which they took the hatch. Space eSports ruled in favor of the Survivor instead of the Killer, which made Marth's team lose.
I just wanna say I'm really appreciative of you putting forth the effort to add your own commentary to this video. It's so annoying when I see something like 'THIS DBD TOURNAMENT WAS A DISASTER" and it's just a bunch of random out of context clips that I guess the uploader found funny. Context matters and I personally love hearing opinions of those more knowledgeable with the game than I am. I'm just a very casual watcher of the game
Bro every single Not Otzdarva Video has commentary that is a million times more insightful than "yOu cAn USe tHE chainSaW for mOVement??" absolutely ridiculous, glad I wasnt there to see it
Man this brings me back. Also the whole Claudette thing was just so funny with the cut to Otz i actually laughed so hard. Really good recap of the events, thank you so much for making this video.
on console in those years, billy was SO OFTEN played how did this dude not know chainsaw is movement, just WHYYYYY and HOW did they think these commentators would be good
I watched 30 minutes of the stream back in the day, and gave up, the quality was so bad that I didn't even witnessed the tip of the iceberg, I was like "No way this is a OFFICIAL STUFF, this guys looks like a streamer wannabe", anyways, fantastic video.
I miss marth88, was the best killer player for me and he inspired me to be a wraith main, I love wraith thanks to him, saw a comment there when you talked about trapper having map control haha
Oh god, I didn’t even know this was a thing. You should do the stranger things livestream next with Gaten matarazzo and ..ninja? For some reason? And how they were just yelling and talking over Gaten the whole time
