I forgot to make a pinned comment on this video 💀 Anyways it's never too late! Remember to not harass or attack anyone that does like this chapter, because after all, no matter how small, there is still a 0.1% that enjoys The Twins :D The majority of things I say in this video are my personal thoughts about this, which are negative overall even though I tried to find some positives about her kit (And let me tell you, the addons are spicy) and I also feel more dissapointed because she is the first evil woman, the first futuristic, cyberpunk character, and that is by far my favourite genre and... the feedback is so bad that I fear BHVR will never attempt to make another futuristic character 😰
As I heard from others, I think she turned out horribly while the rest of the chapter didn't due to the loss of a Predator license at the last moment. The entire chapter is unbelievably similar to the movie "Prey" and Predator in general.
I have every reason to believe she'll get a rework in the future. Maybe not before going live but absolutely at some point I can totally see her getting a full rework. I also firmly believe that she's the equivalent of a "filler killer". They put a lot of effort into Wesker and the Knight, they no doubt have something BIG planned for the Anniversary, but then they looked at their calendar and said "Ah crap! We have a whole chapter release slot we need to fill with something. Quick! Any ideas?!" And then they just ran with the first thing to pop into their heads and rushed it out.
It's fun how her Mori is 10 seconds and 7 of those seconds are the survivor standing up THE MORI MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE IF IT WAS A RE-SKINNED PREDATOR LICENSE! BECAUSE BEHIND THE SURVIVOR THEY WOULD DE-CLOAK!
@@santos8399 you are thinking pedo 🤔 I would advise you to pull your mind out of the gutter before it gets you in trouble. That's not something to joke about.
In fact, many are theorizing that this chapter was going to be predator, but their license was canceled and they had to rush this chapter: -The red forest rework; looks more like a jungle that a russian forest -The claw trap logo looks like the 3 predator lasers. -The most obvious, the weapon. -In the mori, the survivors look around as if the killer was invisible. -Behind the scenes, Adriana is always referred to as the "alpha predator" and trophy collector. -Two survivors, something exclusive of a licences chapters. -The logo on the folders and boxes, very similar to the predator heat tracker. There are too many coincidences to think that it is not related to the predator license
The drones are also similar to the Falconer Predator in Predators. Finally, this is the first original chapter with 2 survivors, a brother and sister. In Prey, there was a brother and sister who fought the Predator in that movie.
@@justmonika2345 Another thing is that her nails on her free hand are very clawlike and pointy which a lot of predator designs have and can be easily seen in the avp games. Its not the best comparison but it still exists.
@@SNSDistherevolution Then why is the mori so bad? The survivor is incredibly oblivious during it, even more so than the Freddy mori. She even lifts the survivor up as if she is 7-8ft tall and possesses some inhuman strength. The whole mori just doesn't make sense for a human of her size.
@@justmonika2345 Yeah it definitely looks like a predator style mori, so I tend to think it's probably the case it was supposed to be a predator, but they had to reskin it last minute. Honestly even the mori as a predator mori is lazy since it basically just copies Freddy's Mori with a bit of a different camera angle.
@@braytonewell From what I’ve heard, people are saying that this chapter was supposed to be a predator chapter, but bhvr didn’t get the license in time, so they were left with what we got
@Jello I heard a license with Predator was dropped at the last moment, so they had to quickly change things, and so that's why she sucks but the rest of the changes don't.
Her design really feels like the art and lore teams were given the same prompt, sent into separate rooms and churned out two totally different takes with no time to pick one or the other so they just mashed both together and called it a day.
Killers are broken. The Myers add ons are a joke and that’s just one example. Devs have no clue what they are doing. I just use cheats now, idc anymore. Love making killers DC
God, thank you Mintskull. I felt ALL of these criticisms the moment I saw and played her. You articulated everything wrong with her so well. You held no punches, covered every aspect, and made your points succinct and convincing. I pray that BHVR considers reworking her lore, as well as changing or offering different base cosmetics to at least fix her character a tiny bit. If Wesker was Project W, this has been Project L
I wish they learned into her being an edgy weeb CEO a bit more. A business suit covered in anime pins and blood, anime stickers on the claw, a mask more akin to those half-oni masks or a hollow mask from bleach.
@@derpfluidvariant0916 Yeah but isn't the irony in Onis lore that he ends up literally becoming an Oni? So like she ends up embracing what people call her?
There are many things about this chapter that are disappointing, but her walk is just 🤣 Its like they knew she was going to be a flop so added a bit of thirst.
When I heard Skull Merchant and thought we were getting a cyborg, I thought she'd be a Hitman or some kind. I really expected some kind of terminator type person, who "upgraded" themselves to get higher paying jobs + quicker/more jobs as a Hitman until they slowly lost all parts of their humanity. I don't even know what about this lady I'm meant to fear...
I still want to know if there's a lore reason why she invaded the Trapper's map or if she really did just waltz into the Entity's realm and set up shop with a cozy and clean little trailer.
@Tom Johnson people have seemed to just accept it for that reason. I'm not a giant lore freak or anything. It's just that if there isn't a somewhat acceptable explanation, then my suspension of disbelief in regard to how the trials work will be shattered.
The reason is that Survivors have been complaining about this map for years because of its lack of pallets and the huge dead zone around the center tree so they gave them a new main building to mess with and BHVR didn't even have to create a whole new map from scratch for this DLC so it's a win-win as far as they're concerned. Basically another "Killer-sided" map got the Game treatment, nothing more to it.
She feels like its should have been a Predator chapter. And at the last moment the licence was taken and they quickly re-skin everything. It really indicates it, since too similiar to Predator Prey
@@fabloski you know that forged in fog was supposed to be a liscense chapter? It was supposed to be a For Honor collab but For Honor developers pulled out of the deal last minute and BHVR were forced to release it anyway because they didn't have any other chapters ready so they had to change really quickly the lore as well character models
@pajron2103 No it wasnt. Youre going off of DbDLeaks, and theyre source on licensed content was very much wrong multiple times in the past year First it was ST returning, then it was the For Honor chapter, and then Bubba's "removal". As some one who plays For Honor as well, the power has absolutely nothing to do with any of the characters
First of the wrist blades are rather a poor man wolverine than predator, look up how his wristblades look they are just diffrent. Furthermore i and I think not only me but everybody who knows predator would be mad af if this was his power ingame even as a knockoff, predator has around 30 weapons and several powers to chose from. Just accept that this is a lackluster chapter and do not buy it so they produce quality in the future.
I keep seeing people say theres similarities. What, the skulls? Because Pred uses skulls to make drones? Is it the "stealth?" Because she doesnt even cloak, just undetectable, and you cant say that there wasnt a way they could make her cloak at all. Wraith, one of the first 3 killers, was already doing that from the start. At that point I just see the claws. And if we're saying same weapon = same killer, might as well say clown and ghost face are the same.
I honestly think she is a repackaged chapter. Paulie said it best, it feels like it was supposed to be a predator chapter, but the licensing fell though. So they had to redo everything. It’s so similar to predator in every way
No other explanation. That mori is devastating to say the least because it's painfully obvious the killer was supposed to be invisible like.... A certain well known warrior of the galaxy. Apex predator and hunter. This is "predator at home" and I HATE it. I've wanted an alien or predator chapter for a long time.. This feels like a slap in the face knowing full well that we might never get either of them because of this rush job. Would have spiked less backlash if they just pushed the release date out and established that license with a heart felt tweet apologizing for delays but emphasizing that they want to make quality chapters... Instead we got a pipe dream and wanna be apex hunter that comes off as a bit pathetic as well as uninspired.
At least community finally agrees about something. Let's be happy about it. Thank you for the video! I really wanted to know what you think about this chapter.
Tbh I wouldnt even say the community agrees on *this.* I for one don't think shes the hardest flop ever. After twins and executioner with their unplayable releases, and trickster still being a horrid design that exists to this day, its hard to say shes the hardest flop ever. I firmly believe many are just judging her (power) too quickly. I'll give it to the haters, her design isnt everyone's cup of tea. But weve been asking for non chase powers for a while (or rather, complaining about chase powers) and now we finally have one and everyone's complaining its dogshit (in the PTB no less) which is fair to give criticism during testing, put people are already saying shes doomed to be terrible forever. I'm not a skull merchant stan by any means, and I dont even think shes going to be in the top 50% of killers. All i mean to say is i think some people are going a *wee* bit hard on her when they say shes just forever doomed, or complaining about her lack of chase power. Her design, fair enough. Just like trickster they could have done a lot more things, even subtle things, to make her more creepy or something.
@@NotJarrod the difference between the twins and pyramids release is that they were buggy not bad ideas. Their lore and design are great and you can see the effort that was put into the concepts. However this killer is bad for their design all round. Name. Design. Gameplay Lore. Mori When fog whisperers are coming out saying its a flop, polls are majority vote unhappy with this chapter. I'd say it's a flop. I like the drone idea. However the rest seems unfinished and rushed. There is a rumour/theory that this was meant to be a predator chapter However the licence was dropped last minute.
Its similar to the way legion came out, we thought we’d get to disguise as survivors, but it was just stabby time But the problem with the skull merchant is we don’t even see her wearing a skull, we see a bedazzled mask
what you were saying about her design makes me realise she should have been dressed like cruella de vil levels of flash and expensive show off and that'd have been amazing
yeah like even though a lot of people don't like Trickster because he's just a regular human, it makes total sense why he looks so basic/not scary, because he is a fashion icon/celebrity and this is a really unique backstory compared to the other Killers. With Skull Merchant, I think they should have either made her into a killer businesswoman (like sharp heels, crisp suit, covered in blood, like a female Patrick Bateman type) OR go all out and make her seem really flashy/glamorous. This genuinely truly looks straight out Apex Legends, Fortnite or PUBG
@@luckykoopa9892 theres always a vocal minority, u can't satisfy everyone with everything. However if they knew THIS would be the other option no one would've complained
The robotic weapon should have been her arm. Make it backstory, she lost it while in a trip or in a crash and she replaced it with a robotic arm of her own design. The arm appears normal to everyday people, but is equiped with interchangable weapons and hands that help the Skull Merchat hunt her victims
@@SweetLolita nah fuck that 18 yo millionaire bs doesn't fit at all what they're going for, she could have been a sort of vigilante that went off the deep end, a cyberpsycho type character or a mad scientist trying to enhance her body with prostethics that required unwilling test subjects or a mercenary anything but weeb evil Iron man chick from wish.
Side note, I LOVE Haddie's reworked design, and I'm glad that she's finally getting some love. And I agree, had Yun-Jin been the Killer instead of Survivor, she'd have been a better fit for the role.
I prefer a killer with a robotic exoskeleton than a futuristic one, the only thing about the design that I don't like is the mask looks like something made for a DJ Show, and her power I think she should get some attack drones after the survivors disable some of her normal drones
I actually had a similar concept in mind. I thought that one of her drones could be replaced with a secret attack drone that acts like a normal drone, but instead of just scanning and exposing the survivor when detected, the drone would slowly reveal a machine gun/shotgun and injure or down a survivor if they doesn't find cover soon. Maybe it can even slightly chase the survivor for a few seconds
@@megahoundoomi9352I was thinking that attack drones could be a mix between victor and trapper every time two normal drones are deactivated she gains an attack drone (limited to 3) she can choose between normal drones and attack drones, these drones go after the closest survivors with a clawtrap similar to victor jumping on them until they are trapped in the arm (1 sec stun) the survivor with this drone would be slower and cannot heal or make generators plus it would work like Victor when it gets stuck in the survivors but to remove it would be similar to the traper
Agreed, honestly if we had gotten a big hulking robot design, I prolly would have hated this Chapter. What we got is for sure not perfect in an overwhelming amount of ways. I do really like her design tho.
5:00 I know that Legion and Trickster are still pretty contentious Killers design-wise among the community, but you perfectly explained why they work in DBD while Skull Merchant doesn't. She lacks so much identity, and her design shows. She feels cobbled together from like 5 different ideas/themes.
Please forgive me, but it is genuinely annoying how sexy she is. I mean I want to be scared of the Killer, not want her to....I'll leave it at that. But I just imagine the Devs in the studio like "Yeah unbutton the shirt a little..."
As a Brazilian, i was very excited for this chapter and when a friend told me that the PTB released, i immediately hoped on to a stream to see what she was all about, and tbh, i actually kinda liked her desing at first, but the more i watched, the more i started to get bothered by it, you basically said everything i thought about, weird mask and etc, i also feel like her animations are heavily sexualized, and she just doesn't fit in the game, her power could be interesting, but the way it currently works just sucks and the perks are not "bad bad" but they aren't the best either, "Thwack!" is cool, but the rest are just so niche and weird tbh, now, about the survivors, i really really really love their design and the voice lines that they have when they are in the lobby together, but the perks, oh the perks, all bad or op. Im honestly so disappointed, i was expecting for it to be a human killer, but this chapter just sucks, i bet they just made them Brazilian so that us from Brazil would get hyped and buy the chapter, this might be the worst representation that we ever had.
I feel like the oversexualized animations just don't fit her at all. It's so many clashing themes that just don't connect well. They want a smart, self made genius and successful CEO turned evil. However want her to be something of a femme fatale, yet geeky and obsessed over "brazillian manga". They want her to be ruthless but dress her rather plainly and unintimidating. They want her to be technological and crafty with her power, but design an incredibly lackluster kit. They want her to be cybernetic but have gone extremely light on her technological usage and appearance.
As a brazilian too, I LOVED both survivors. I think I'll play with them all the time. But about Adriana, its so uninspiring... this video resumes all my thoughts about the killer. In a few minutes Mint wrote an exciting and interesting lore for her who is WAAAY better than the original lore.
@@Thomastm33 pretty sure that says more about yourself if anything, just because she has hips and walks doesn't mean it's sexual plenty of people walk like that doesn't mean it's inherently sexual
They gave her mechanic claws, skulls and a tracking power. They will most likely just make a pred skin for her. It'll still be disapointing. Also I like how that millionaire as to duck tape the exoskeleton to her arm, very cool looking.
ah yes my favorite sull merchant in description lol but yea, the mori is literally "Give survivors free unbreakable, scan them to see their mental health and act accordingly"
Funny enough the way you described her lore as a jack of all trades can also apply to her design as well. It feels like they tried to fit all of her character traits into it and it ends up coming out as a bunch of conflicting themes
Mintsull is so good at this type of stuff, he makes the argument sound so professional and polite at the same time. He sounds calm and he gets the point across in a rather quick and efficient way. Also thanks mintskull for this video hopefully behavior sees this and tries to improve.
Love you and your videos! Quick note: 2:16 The Pig DOES have a tragic past. She was one of Jigsaw's first victims and had to murder a guy to get the key to the RBT on her head out of his intestines, which likely drove her insane enough to want to join him.
@@theonlyMoancore it doesnt, its just a matter of diversity in killer thematics. when all female killers are sympathetic tragedies it starts getting pretty stale
I think the way to fix her design is to expand her mask into a full suit with robotic parts thrown in and the way to fix her mori is to make a drone fly to the body and explode or her cutting off the survivor's head (for the skull) and the way to fix her power is to make drones move in a straight path from the place they have been placed at (kinda like knight)
I would find the design better if she just got turned into a robot Not that i like robots a lot but it’s better then this hooker looking lady with a robo claw But your idea for the power is pretty intereseting Because if the drone’s would patrol an area you set up it would be a lot harder for survivors to deactivate them and avoid them But this also makes her very very similiar to the knight, but without the chases that the knight’s guards bring and it makes her incredible for 3 gening and camping So maybe a good idea but not without downsides
They dont even need to make a full robotic suit, I feel like a more military style outfit and mask would look really great especially considering her lore, Nd it would be cool to have a more military style killer
3:50 - I think it's because she's meant to be REALLY bad at what she does, in a narrative way. 'The Skull Merchant' is just a character. She's a character playing another character. It's a costume, one that's ironically much more of a costume than Ghost Face's. I saw a similar thread that more or less declared, "Adriana at her core is a femcel who's living out her bloody fantasies and dealing with her daddy issues by cosplaying as a character her dad created." 'The Skull Merchant' is a role, not someone of Adriana Imai's own making. She's shallow, petty, jealous of others, and her lore illustrates how she has no inherent creativity--she takes advantage of those who do, such as when she profited off a manga website and scammed the kids who drew for it out of their money. BUT I hope her FUTURE lore develops this angle more though, because the current introductory lore does her no justice and talks way too much about her dad. It pisses me off that BHVR struggles so much with giving their female characters (especially Killers) proper agency. I love Artist to pieces but her base lore is ass and I really hope her tome fixes the same problem Merchant also is being released with: lack of agency. That being said, at least Carmina was inspired by a life-changing event to use her artwork for good. Adriana has been a competitive, bitter little shit since she was a child and we still don't know how she feels about her missing dad. Does she hate him? Does she want him to come back? Who knows? And the gaping holes in her lore regarding her becoming a millionaire and a CEO hunter are definitely fucking stupid. 100% agreed there. Your ideas are all much better for her. Currently she just feels like a bold mishmash with no true direction. Also - I'm a woman. I hate her design, except for the silly walk she does chasing Survivors, and at least she has shoes. It's a low bar.
i always thought that the mori was weird... as a skull merchant, wouldn't it be more fitting for her to like... do something with the skull? like decapitating or something? man
14:40 none of the people I've watched cover the new killer have talked about the add on so far. The fact that some of the add ons make the drones apply crazy buffs it's actually kind of cool and if they rebuilt the character around that idea I kind of wouldnt mind, like i can imagine it leaning more into a "jack of all trades" killer. One add on might spray a mist in an area that applies exhausted, another will create "holograms" of the killer or red stain chasing them to mind game survivors, etc.
exactly what i was thinking; the kit seems like an amazing way to make a 'create your own killer'. very basic and kinda useless without add-ons but free-form enough for the add-ons to drastically change the gameplay for both survivors/killers
I've seen lots of different ideas for a rework of The Skull Merchant's power, so my own might not be the most original, but here it is (I'm so sorry for the long wall of text, lol): She gets to use (4) drones at a time, survivors can deactivate them, and they cannot stack on top of OR next to one another - that hasn't changed. The first type of drone still gives the Exposed status effect as well. However, the other (3) drones have a unique function. (Drone deployment speed should be reduced from 12.5s to 5s for quicker setup, too. Devs could also buff her by giving her Haste (+5% movement speed) while in the radius of her drones alongside Undetectable as basekit; the effects linger for 2s once she leaves drone radius. Devs should remove the visual indication of a drone's area of surveillance (orange field) as well, similar to how the Knight's patrol path cannot be seen.) 1.) Scouting: When within the radius of this drone for at least 10s, the marked survivor becomes Exposed for 40s. 2.) Sniping: When within the radius of this drone for at least 10s, the marked survivor is shot at; they are put in the Mend state and become Broken for 40s after Mending. 3.) Trapping: When within the radius of this drone, the marked generator regresses at 180% of the normal regression speed for 40s. 4.) Tracking: When within the radius of this drone for at least 10s, the marked survivor becomes Hindered for 40s and their aura is revealed for 5s.
This character is so confused. They seriously should rewrite her lore before she gets to live just so that it gives her some cool identity. A CEO who is rich beyond compare who finds amusement in killing people and gets away with it because she can pay off everyone that has something to say about it, would be SO COOL!!! We saw that with Squid Game and it's actually an unsettling concept that everyone is just a pawn for the extremely wealthy to play with. It would make an incredible addition to this game. Also, the fact that she's apparently so rich and has duct tape on her weapons is so backwards. Someone with that much money is going to have immaculate custom made tools, not to mention that she'd have a designer hunting suit that could tell a story of what future fashion could be like... It's just miss after miss after miss! The thing with the most character in this DLC is the Hunting Camp because it's the only thing that screams futuristic technology and absolute luxury. I love what we got for that, but a whole map that twisted top dollar luxury with tormented victims, like a private tropical island with a huge mansion where the most dangerous game is played, would leave me begging for more. Like c'mon BHVR, why are we getting a rich cosplayer over a bored, tyrannical CEO who passes the time by hunting people?!?!
Know what would have been even a LITTLE better, they build up Thalita’s success way more and have her be one of the CEOs she’s hunting instead of random girlboss who flew a kite at the wrong spot
I was okay with her being a normal human, but the bling mask throws me off so much. Her body outfit and robotics all look like they are focused on function over form, while the mask is the opposite. If they had gone all in with slick looking robotics and billionaire bling OR completely gone with the scrappy "I built this in my garage at home" industrial look, either way I would have been happy. As it is, it seems contradictory rather than complimentary. Being able to use the drones for surveillance would have been awesome. I have a theory on her mori, I'm betting that they had something else planned, and either A) ran out of time or B) hit a technical wall (and ran out of time to fix it) and at a certain point when they realized this they decided to repurpose Freddy's mori. I mean, the Survivor gets up confused which makes sense with Freddy because he just knocked them down and then disappeared, but she's literally still standing behind them! Why are they confused?!?! They aren't stunned, just confused like they lost track of her, but she's still there. It definitely feels repurposed to me. That, or this was supposed to be Predator's mori and he would have been cloaked. But either way, it just doesn't make sense with her and is so underwhelming. I also like your lore ideas better 😅😅 Honestly, I am still overall excited for this chapter and hope that they'll buff her before launch or shortly after launch to make her more viable. I appreciate your approach in this video, balancing positives with the critiques. Well done.
It feels like they might have lost the predator license and then they tried to salvage assets and made this killer in a rush. I'm having a deja vu moment from the Twins release.
YOOOOOOOOOO. How come that your lore ideas explained in less than 5 minutes are so fucking good? It's simple, yet I love them. It perfectly fits with the merchant's father, her crazy obsessions. Man, what we could have gotten....
I loved the tone of this video, you matched how I feel perfectly. Thank you for your honesty about everything as well, the more voices BHVR hears the less likely they are to repeat this mistake in the future.
This was 100% a Predator chapter that never happened. Think about it, arm blades, skulls, drones and remote control, these are all Predator stuff that was most definitely scrapped and changed last second to whatever the fuck we got
The fact that people on twitter genuinely had the audacity to say that you don't like the killer because she is a woman is infuriating to me. Didn't you even specifically say that we needed more purely evil women in the game? I cant believe the audacity that those people have
I would have just, deleted this, and tried again. Dbd, releases Dredge, which is what I consider the best release of a killer. It was scary, it was perfect. The only downside was the map, which was visually perfect, just functionally terrible. Body horror and non-human is a topic I don't understand why dbd don't delve into, because it's incredibly effective, and it opens up for the best cosmetics. Instead, we got a really put of place character with no uniform appearance. Trickster, I found really easy to get used to because it fit fine to me after a while, and he opened up to some lovely visuals. Skull merchant fits to nothing whatsoever.
They don't do more monsters because it requires to create entirely new models and animations and they simply don't have time for that if they wanna keep up with their release schedule. Most characters are build on same/similar model and share lots of animations. The most repeated animation is probably pallet kicking and vaulting animations(which lead to really weird looking animations - Spirit didn't use to have any animation, which was so confusing they decided to add to her the basic smol killer animations which makes her model goofilu stretch). Demogorgon for example shares animations with Hag out of all killers(stunned, pallet break, ofc they do differ but only slightly).
@@YagamiTrala which could be understood back then, but they're company has grown to hundreds of members compared to the tens that were there a few years ago.
I personally didn't like Dredge's chapter, just felt it was boring and he looked like a turkey. But i absolutely love body horror and how creative they have been with his cosmetics. I also love Trickster, he just fits, u can tell they put a lot of effort into him. But then we got knight and now this...
I really, REALLY, appreciate how you try to give solutions and be reasonable (unlike what I've seen from most of the community). Like for example you tried to improve the design and explain why (taking into the account DBD's style and her lore) it isn't a good fit for her, instead of "hating" on her design because she isn't a robot/Predator.
Honestly the new killer looks like a 3 stars common in a gatcha game that you end up having dozens and dozens copies of and it's annoying because you always have to trade them in for upgrade materials
one thing i really didnt like about the lore. was the fact the 2 survivors showed up in the very last paragraph and just witnesses, that was a massive letdown
My decision remains to virtually ignore this Killers inclusion in the game, I feel as though she stains the roster and personally I just can't find any significant redeeming qualities here. This feels like a failure in development, you can see some interesting concepts but an incredibly flawed execution and with a lackluster power and perks I doubt that I will ever need to pick her up as a killer player nor encounter her after the first few weeks of her release as a survivor. After The excellent releases of Sadako, The Dredge, Wesker and even the Knight (visually & thematically at least) The release of this killer is a massive let-down. The survivors are fantastic though and the map refreshes are a treat it's just... We all know that BHVR can do better and I seriously hope that this is a joke. Scott needs to start telling us to *wake up*
While watching I thought of a few improvements, Don't think BeHavior will see this but might as well type this out somewhere 1. Lore: Make her inspiration still Manga but not her dad's, Just another one that's sold in stores, don't make her rich, say she made her equipment from scrap to cosplay as her favorite fictional character "The Skull Seeker" (skull merchant makes no sense skull seeker makes more sense because she's seeking your skulls with drones) 2. Motive: not entirely sure but I think it should be something like she now believes she is The Skull Seeker and she thinks all of the survivors are evil-doers or something along those lines 3. Mori: Have it done from the drones perspective but it's edited with a manga art style filter have it be more dramatic with the camera zoomed in on her eyes as she focuses to stab the survivor in the with her full strength 4. Don't make the drones hackable 5. Get rid of the radar entirely and just show where the survivors are with aura, we can explain it as her using that mask thing 6. Make the mash thing black not bling bling diamond shine 7. Every time she strikes a survivor have her say something like "your end is near" or "you can't run forever" or "I'LL CHASE YOU 'TIL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!!!!" (Okay maybe not that last one 😅) Anyway here are my ideas to make The Skull Seeker better (I don't care who you are I'm calling them The Skull Seeker)
I think it could be cool if "The Skull Merchant" was written by her father after seeing the Entity's Realm, so the manga would have led her into the fog. Her power would be Panels of the manga, and she would look more and more like the character she was pretending to be as she got hits or kills that resembled the panels. Think subgoals that buff you like Oni, such as grabbing a survivor while they are vaulting, regressing a generator, ect. The skins would all also have the progression feature, going from a bad cosplay to an entity-empowered version that looks way more menacing(important if they are wanting to squeeze money out of the character). As the panels are completed, the Merchant goes from a slower stealth killer to a faster, more deadly version. There would need to be like 2 possible panels to choose from though, in case you start with the locker one and nobody even gets in one.
I've never agreed with the take that some people had that someone like Trickster is lame because he is a kpop star. Trickster works because the focus is very clear celebrity worship and how, in the wrong hands, it can lead to someone narcissistic to keep doing more and more extreme actions just to get the attention that already narcissistic people crave. There is no need for a tragic backstory of poverty or anything because Trickster just is. He's a narcissist and likes it and that's all there is to that and Yun Jin provides a very cool lens into the kpop industry and how she, in a way, enabled him because she wanted to stay at the top. I love the idea of covering stuff like manga and different cultural items in Japan. I firmly believe if DBD wanted to they could've done good research and a great killer that, yes, would even be good for cosmetics and I think it should've been based on fashion in Japan. Japan faces a large mental health crisis and styles like Yami Kawaii are LITERALLY designed to be morbid and explore the undesirable subjects especially violent ones. I would have loved to see a killer that embraces yami kawaii and in a way is more selfish and uses the style to justify their actions and perhaps they just don't care for the deeper message of yami kawaii calling attention to issues in Japanese society. Killers like Trickster prove you can have your cake and eat it too with good lore and appealing cosmetics as long as it makes *sense*. And it seems that the Skull Merchant fails at this spectacularly.
Make it so aura in the drones radius is base kit, add a radar to the baddies HUD so she no longer has to keep checking her device for tracking. And, drones block any pallets within their radius after 10 seconds of being active
Bless you, man. You've said everything I was trying to put into words about the Skull Merchant. I think your 3rd lore idea was the best. Also, her saying weeb phrases during a match would elevate her so much. Some of her add-ons should be basekit AT LEAST. And that mori is truly the lamest, most boring one in the game by a wide margin. At least Pig's, which is simple but brutal, is quick!
I swear, her design would've been so much better if they took a page from the Adeptus Mechanicus, who have that cyborg body-horror aesthetic that we expected from a futuristic killer. And 40k isn't even a full-horror universe like DBD.
Agreed, yet I still trust BHVR, and I hope they can redeem this character in some way! She is our first futuristic evil woman and she also has Skull in her name, like this character was made for me and then...
They went from knight to this. Like he was so unique and original and then we went to this. His look was so cool (besides the hair thing on his helmet) to this Comic-Con lookin ass
Hello,I just wanted to thank you a lot for everything I learned about the game from your informative videos when i started playing 1 month ago! I took alot of ideas from them and started having alot of fun as a killer, especially with sadako and ghostface. Keep up the good content, I am a fan :)
I think an upgrade to her mori could be the survivor stumbling into a room and behind them we see a glint of her mask. Survivor falls to the ground and they look up a notice a little drone in the corner of the room. As they start to stand she stomps on their back and stabs her claws into their back. The merchant lifts their body into the air and we see her holding a manga and reading. Finish off with a couple of drones swarming and peeling the survivors limbs apart off her claws. She whips the blood away and walks off flipping to the next page.
Behavior: Alright Team we need an “original” Killer Next Patch Team:We make a Brazilian Nea with A predator Claw who is an M1 Killer and The Mori will be Freddy’s but with a drone in the background Also She’ll be boujee so she can be a Thirst Trap Lead Designer: GIVE THAT GUY A RAISE!!!
They should have made her look like an evil billionaire from the purge movies, that would be my worst fear. Her clothes are too pedestrian, she needs something more high class.
Love your dedication man and 100% agree with all of your points. The trailer especially played the entire community like a damn fiddle with how polished and well done it was.
If gore was a thing, most of the mori in the game would be much more gruesome but satisfying, I could say start the initial mori of the skull merchant (stabbing the survivor through the chest from behind) then finish the survivor of with a decapitation, having a drone to take the head to her hideout. Could even pull of Warhammer and take the drones and incorporate a skull to them.
@@scrapinator8898 Ji woon's Design actually Makes Sense For his Lore and Aesthetic, Adriana just feels like Some Girl who is trying to Be as Awsome as Ji woon
imagine if she could get access to new equipment as the game progresses and you have to make a choice after some milestone has been reached . lets say high tech boots that can give her a dash ? or upgrade the blade to have electricity causing anyone hit to suffer from doctors effects where actions are unavailable for a certain amount of time.
As different and interesting as hacking the drones might be, it would be realistically far more effective to just grab it and smash it into the ground preventing its reuse. That should have been an option where it explodes injuring the survivor and spraying them with an easy to see neon paint that would have allowed easier tracking, have them leave footprints even Pyramid Head style. That way there's more of a risk or reward system for how you chose to counter the drones. I don't agree that this is a futuristic killer either. This is all modern day tech available decades ago, save the video gamey visual scans. Which distracts and makes it more difficult track survivors visually. She didn't turn a skull into a drone either, she just bolted a skull onto a drone. The duct tape is especially bad given how she's supposed to be all about the "bling". The obsession with media angle was already a thing with Ghostface. Everything about this character comes off as a self insert character made by a 12 year old. None of her individual elements works together. And just opens the doors for terrible characters like Jeff the Killer.
you can tell this was a rushed chapter after the predator licensing fell through during the development process. i would rather have behavior pull this chapter back into the workshop and work on this for a month or two to polish it up.
@@dakotad3970 i don't think anyone is serious it being a failed predator chapter, it just seems like the Hillbilly/Bubba case where they clearly made Hillbilly a Leatherface at home character
Why isn't the "SKULL" Merchant's mask NOT A SKULL? The power is a Legion lvl of disconnect. Trailer portrays drones as stealthy surveillance, unseen eyes of the killer in the sky. Yet in game you can see drones across the bloody map. When I was launching ptb I expected something like scratched mirror Myers. Strategic killer constantly getting info on Survivor locations. Yet in game She is Knight 2.0 just worse at everything.
Her lore is probably the worst in DBD’s history as well. She’s a Japanese-Brazilian lady whose dad made manga. Her dad, for literally no reason, started to go off the deep end and make an edgy, spoooky manga called Sonhadores Sombrios, which literally translates to “Dark Dreamers”. In this edgy Brazilian manga there’s an edgelord character called the Skull Merchant who kills people for no reason. Adriana’s family falls on hard times so she becomes full of cold ambition and starts a website dedicated to the THRIVING, WIDELY KNOWN WORLD of Brazilian manga. She doesn’t actually give a shit about the website so she hires random teenagers to edit it, which was totally essential information by the way, but she makes so much money from this website that she becomes a fucking millionaire. With all of this newfound wealth she becomes a cutthroat and uncaring corporate overlord who buys out companies and turns them into husks for literally no reason. When people try to criticize or prevent her from doing this, she proceeds to hunt them down and murder them, with the help of military-grade homemade drones that she is somehow able to make herself. There’s no buildup showing the escalation from Adriana being a cutthroat businesswoman to a serial killer shown in the lore. There’s no motivation for her to do this because she’s already a millionaire. It doesn’t even explain her murderous spiral in a compelling way like it did with Trickster’s lore. She has no motivation to kill people, which could be a good thing if it’s depicted properly, like with Trickster or Doctor, but nope! She just likes killing people, no need for further detail. But wait, we haven’t gotten to the best part yet. She goes to murder someone who stood in her way, and is stopped by the two survivors, who are flying kites. Another thing, having the survivors’ main character traits being that they fly kites? Really, behavior? You had no other ideas? Anyways, this makes Adriana panic, at which point the Entity takes her with zero prompting whatsoever. No warning signs, no buildup, no clues that the Entity was pursuing her. Wow, Behavior, wow. The theory that this chapter was meant to be for the Predator holds a lot of water not just in terms of character design and killer functions, but in terms of lore too. This backstory is really long and yet it still feels rushed and barebones, like it was made at the last possible minute. Pinhead had a more descriptive backstory, and his was five sentences. Even the killer’s name seems like a variation of the Predator! The Skull Merchant. The Predator collects the skulls of his victims. Disregarding that, it’s a stupid name overall. First off, it’s three words long, which is already taboo and only done with one other killer. Second, it makes no sense to her character. Just because she thinks of herself as an edgy, murdering wasteland warrior doesn’t make her one. With almost all the other killers, their name is something they’d actually been called before, like with Ghost Face, Doctor, and Legion, and even if it wasn’t, it represented them through their appearance. The Skull Merchant just looks like an enemy in a bad Sci-Fi shooter. Garbage chapter. Do better.
Something is just wrong about this killer, it was made by some bhvr d team, or was cobbled together from other unfinished things, like the mask came from one character, the drones and claw came from another, and the character used from an unfinished survivor. The mask doesn't look like it was built for her, it's curved in a weird way
I really love your third lore idea! And yes it truly is a wierd chapter they are developing there..... P.S. why actually can't she retract her blade? THat would be amazing too!
