He was a very kind man. Nice to everybody, no ego, down to earth. I have the opportunity to work in this film and got to talk with him in the makeup trailer while we were having our makeup done
I watch The Crow once per year each October. It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it is one of my absolute favorites. The atmosphere they create is so immersive, you can almost feel the movie. Thank you for this awesome location video, amazing job on your research to find and present it!
I absolutely agree with you. It's so well done that its flaws are actually an appreciated part of the artistic outcome. It was so wonderfully stylistic, and Brandon's portrayal, along with all of the other actors felt so authentic.
The Crow is a beautiful movie, just like Brandons soul. He left this earth on the highest note possible with that performance. Nothing to be sad about. He's probably enjoying a new existence somewhere with his father in another realm. I mean, anything and everything is possible.
I always thought Brandon Lee was such a great actor. He was a good looking actor and a really nice guy. I remember watching TV when they announced his death. It did change how the armorers handled at passed out the weapons for use in TV and Movie productions. Ryan, you ran down a ton of information for doing this show. Great job as I expect from you. Howdy from Texas!
RIP Brandon Lee. He left this earth on the tightest and best performance of his life & movie carrier. He's wonderfully happy with his legendary father somewhere in the afterlife. His passing is so tragic because he was a wonderful, handsome & very kind man and did not deserve to get taken so soon.
One of my favorite superhero films of all time! I met James O'Barr last week at a comic expo in Memphis, Tennessee and he's an amazing man. I asked him what was like talking to Brandon Lee during the set of The Crow and he said that Lee was like a younger brother to him. Thank You for this video and I need to check out Wilmington, NC to do a tour of this movie and other films. RIP Brandon Lee #ForBrandonandEliza
Wilmington is really amazing! I bet it was incredible meeting James O'Barr. I wish I'd known about it as I'm not too far from Memphis. Thank you for watching, Brandon!
I moved to the Wilmington area in 2004 and actually did "extra" work on One Tree Hill at Screen Gems (and other locations). I knew that The Crow was filmed there, but I had no idea which building he was killed at until now. Gave me chills watching this, tyvm! ♡
@@GoingtotheMovies it definitely was a wonderful experience!! Such an awesome, amazing place! ♡ The best part of being an extra was meeting so many cool people on set... even a couple that became my lifelong great friends. 🤗 We always had so much fun, too! There were some verrrrry long days of filming, but I truly loved every minute of it! ❣
@@vickilssrb4405 is there a way that me and my wife who will be vacationing in Wilmington on July 8-14th can get Screen Gem merch or see the lot at all?
Thank you Ryan. Such a powerful and tragic video. You approach with such respect and concern. I can’t stop thinking about the recent gun movie incident, so unnecessary. Thank you for bringing even more awareness and hope for change.
there wasnt a bullet in the gun. it was a fragment of a previous blank and the force of the shot propelled that fragment into Brandon and thats what killed him
There was a bullet a real one in the barrel that came off the casing after the prop master pulled trigger the firing cap went off no gun powder but the cap was enough to force the bullet out of the casing and into the barrel a couple of weeks earlier then the night of the accident the gun wasn’t checked for an obstruction a blanks were put in the gun and when fired it the bullet basically came out full force like if it were fired out of the bullet casing. They didn’t have any dummy bullets so a prop master got some real bullets that were in his car took bullet tip off emptied gunpowder and replaced the tip but didn’t fire the caps they needed the prop bullets for a forward facing scene to show bullets in the cylinders. The armorer was sent home day before the accident as there wasn’t supposed to be any more gun scenes. It was supposed to be a knife thrown at Brandon by Tintin and not shot
Very nicely done! We lived in Asheville NC during the storm of the century. We had just left Las Vegas. I didn't realize they filmed that movie in North Carolina. Have a GREAT weekend!!
10:00 Accidents like these also affect the people involved and traumatizes them; like the actor that shot the gun and Rochelle Davis, who played the little girl. She stopped acting after.
I live in Wilmington almost all my life. I remember when they filmed the Crow here. My ex worked at the hotel where the extras and Brandon Lee stayed. I asked her a day before Lee was killed to get me his autograph if she could. Next day he was shot dead. It was big news here in Wilmington with the locals and around the world in the news.
Brandon lived in an apartment while filming the crow and did not stay in a hotel. And the production company would not pay for extras to stay at a hotel.
@@jamesanderson6373Nope, he lived in a hotel. This was written about in Entertainment Weekly on April 16, 1993. The hotel was formerly called The inn at The saint Thomas Court. The adress is 101 S. 2nd street , Wilmington , NC

Wow, bravo. Really stepping up to the plate with this one. One of my favorite movies of all time. Had absolutely no idea where any filming locations were until now. Thank you. 😢
I was literally at that studio auditioning for Halloween kills in 2019 and I said a prayer for Brandon before I auditioned. RIP Brandon and Sensei Bruce Lee
This was very interesting and informative great job! I remember the crow being one of the first movies I saw in a theater. I remember before each movie there was a music video of a band in a desert in a nova or chevelle, but I don't recall the band or name of song. I've been looking for years
Thanks, Kale! I can remember lots of metal videos taking place in green screened deserts with fake lightning, but I can't remember any playing before movies, haha!
Was it the Urge Overkill video Sister Havana? Funny story about that song my local radio station put on a preview screening of the Crow and they had the Sister Havana song playing over the radio spot so I thought the song would be in the Crow lol
Going to the Movies always does a great job with filming locations. I've been following him since his first video. He came to my hometown of Sparta, Illinois to do a video about the movie "In the heat of the night". Been an instant fan ever since.
Super cool info thanks. My favorite movie of all time and the 29 of this month I will be able to see it in theaters for the first time on the 29th for the 30th anniversary. One love keep the vibes high high remember to do something today that you can thank yourself for tomorrow!!
So happy to finally see this and great drone footage! Great job! I did the tour 2003? , so One Tree Hill set was up and they never mentioned the Crow even did a screening room of movies filmed there and nothing so I asked lol! I was also friends with a guy who worked on this but, passed a couple years ago. He had some crazy stories. That apartment I missed so hopefully I can get there next time and fun boys apartment/fire escape in between the brewery and port city Java. The cost cutting and making of home made blanks resulted in the primer was left in fired so during the close up it popped just enough to dislodge the tip and it was stuck in the barrel So, when they used the powder/blank for his murder scene with Michael Masse it had enough blast to shoot Brandon unfortunately. God bless. Ofcourse, James O' Barr's cameo as the looter outside of Gideon's. ;)
Thanks, Crush41gb! I should’ve know it was hurricane that destroyed the backlot. Really wish they’d open it up for tours again one day. Next time I’m in Wilmington, the fire escape is the first thing I’m hitting!
@@GoingtotheMovies I know, right! I don't think anything has been built back there after the multiple hurricane destructions Lolita? It was still just a field when I was there. Did they stop doing tours because of *ahem* lol? I You did a great job and gave me views of the Cement factory I'd never seen! Can't wait for you to get back there and me too lol! Happy Halloween 🎃, buddy!
@@crush41gb Happy Halloween! The only answer on tours I got were that they don’t offer them 😭 On the bright side, soundstages aren’t the most interesting buildings in the world 😂
@@GoingtotheMovies Thank you kindly! Sorry about the tours. When theybgotvrid of the tax incentives here most filming dried up so they may be empty anyway. Except for One Tree Hill set that's what it was then. The screening room clips of movies but, you pretty much know that and the history the studio. I did take a pic of and outside Stage 4 though ofcourse. ;) oh, the one thing I did notice is all the door latches were ball bearings so they easily opened and closed Kramer-style lol!
What happened with the gun was that, specifically with revolvers, they use blanks, when the firearm is pointed away from the camera and when the firearm is pointed towards the camera, they use prop bullet caps. (the front of the bullet) They do this because you can see right into a revolver, from the front and you can see if it's loaded or not. So, one of these caps was left in the revolver. The blank, which is filled with gunpowder, fired the cap into Brandon Lee. Such a tragic loss. RIP.
This was a great video, very well done! One location I’ve tried to find for years is the pier where Draven sends T-Bird’s car flying off into an explosion. You can see a building marked “A SEABOARD” in the scene. Any ideas?
I looked really hard for that one because it looks like a real place. I tried to get in touch with the location manager, but had no luck. There is a river that runs close to Screengems, so they may have built it somewhere around there. There’s a lot of industrialized docks in Wilmington too though, so I’m not too sure. Definitely let me know if you find it!
While he's talking about the film at 1:30 you see his double standing in for him after the tragedy. One of the most memorable scenes from the film, but not Brandon as Eric Draven
This is a film I would be totally okay to NEVER see rebooted. Perhaps an annual showing on "devil's night" in theaters would be a special way to honor him. They could even play interviews before and after the film letting fans in on the production, the original comic it was based on, and it's lasting legacy.
I always heard he was shot upstairs @ Pravda, The Liquid Room, or some other bar in downtown but that may just be the mystery locations you spoke about. Staff would even take you upstairs if you where lucky. (Lifelong NC resident and lived in Wilmington around 07-14)
The Crow è stato un grande film....
Great video man. I just spent a few days in Wilmington, and I was curious if u knew what hotel he was staying in while they were filming? I figured maybe you came across that info while doing your research for this video.
him and his father's deaths are by far thee most tragic in cinematic history😌I was a young kid in the 90s when this film came out It was such a inspiration to me my first tattoo was that tragedy mask makeup he wore on his face😎it resides on my left arm because I'm left handed 👍my entire life I've had lots of positive feedback about how cool it looks😎he was waaaay too damn young to die man!the only guy who's remotely close to his performance action wise is Tony jaa💯Brandon's dialogue is so much more educated sounding🤓imagine if he was still in movies😊rip Brandon🙏🏻never forgotten🙏🏻❤️
I worked for Rhino staging and Argus staffing. I witnessed two instances I felt lucky to have walked away from. First one was doing security checks at the gates for a broncos game at invesco field. The field had just been bought by sports authority and security policy was changed to help tighten up and reduce weapons being snuck in. We were trained to do full body frisks, all the way around waist, inside and outside of pants and inside and outside of long sleeves. Also hats were to be removed breifly. This resulted in not being able to get all the fans in the stadium before kick off, I was doing checks at the south gate infront of a huge wall extending down the stairs to the parking lot. All of a sudden I heard the national anthem and fans started pushing forward. I almost got knocked over and crushed what they call a crowd crush. I immediately yelled STOP!!! BACK UP!!! which to my amazement actually worked as I'm not a big guy and many of these fans were 6ft+ jocks. Had I not yelled when I did I'd probably be dead or crippled. Another instance was setting up KISS at the pepsi center. I had just got done unloading and hooking up 40+ huge butane cannisters behind the stage for pyrotechnics when a some sparks started a fire on the jumbo tron screen behind the stage directly above the tanks. Luckily a rigger climbed up in less than a minute with a extinguisher and only one hand climbed up there.
I heard differently. The impact to his spine likely caused him to collapse backwards against a wall and down from spinal shock, and he was reportedly awake but barely responsive. Someone claimed he motioned vaguely to his abdomen. Of course it was all on film but reportedly that film was destroyed by the police department after the investigation. There is an episode of a series called Autopsy: The Last Hours of Brandon Lee that provides an excellent, if predictably overproduced and drawn out, breakdown of events. Arteriosclerosis from smoking may have contributed to how deadly the impact was for him. A tragic end for a very bright up and coming star.
There's a few sources that have said this whether it's true or not who can say. As for the footage? I have heard that it's still intact and and an investigator actually got to view it. I still say we're not going to find out the truth to this.
as someone who grew up in wilmington and had a dad who is obsessed with the crow i grew up learning about all these locations and i think it made me a bigger fan of the movie because of the closeness of the movie
If you still have the footage minus the overlay to post somewhere that would be great, I'm finding it hard to line up the scenes cause it blocks it a bit too much for me personally
I've always wondered which scenes in The Crow had Chad play Eric Draven or the Crow instead of Brandon. I know Brandon has filmed most the scenes by the time he had died, though.
Who was around watching,,❓ who was a stranger for the rest of the staff,, and the one that is responsible for the Gun,, did he came from Hong Kong and had friends from Hong Kong ❓ did they knew who's Brandon Lee father was,, All this things were not asked because no one knew that Brandon Lee knew what really happened to he's father,, and how he really Died 😔😥 God bless them both.
Remember: it's on the third or 4th shot that Brandon got hit. Michael had fired the gun a couple of times before, and nothing had occurred. This has been documented. My suspicion is that a real gun with actual bullets in it ended up on that set. Coincidence or accident? I don't believe it.
If Brandon lee didn't passed away he would have done sequels after the first film and woman who played as shelley in the crow movie but Brandon lee did got shot by another actor they tried to make a dummy bullet because it still had some powder in the bullet that's how Brandon lee died he was only 28 years old
Brandon Lee is buried right next to his father Bruce Lee at Lakeview cemetery which is only 10 miles away from where I live. I’ve been to his grave about seven times I recommend anyone who lives or visits Seattle to go to his grave at Lakeview cemetery in the Capitol Hill neighborhood
Kind of. I read it differently. It was sort of redone. The scene he was shot in was actually one where he entered the apartment carrying a grocery bag, and he was shot first. In the reshoots, he gets stabbed by Tin Tin, and then Shot by funboy. Maybe that's what you meant, though. The home invasion.
@@GoingtotheMovies When I first moved to Wilmington I was always told that it was an attic downtown. Even the current bar employees told me that. I guess I've been living a lie for nearly a decade damn
From Cliffnotes.com: To avenge is to punish a wrong with the idea of seeing justice done. Revenge is harsher and/or less concerned with justice than with retaliating by inflicting harm. I see it as revenge but it depends on your definition of justice, I guess. I assume that’s what you’re getting at and not miscorrecting grammar?
