Jesus, that spoke to me. Looking forward to seeing you in Dublin in September. I am a single mum of a teenage boy. I’m single because his Dad was violent and abusive in every way possible. I try so hard to direct my son towards strong, inspirational male figures. He’s involved in martial arts, sport... I teach him about the importance of his strength and how beautiful that can be. I want him to embrace his masculinity and be PROUD of it. Not to be ashamed because the left have said toxic masculinity is a curse.

I've raised and am still raising four sons (ages 29, 18, 15, and 8). My husband is a combat veteran, and we've been together over 19 years. We're raising traditionally masculine, chivalrous, and strong men (or we're trying)! Society is making it harder for our boys to learn how to BE MEN. Everything masculine is labelled "toxic" and I hate that. I married a protector, a provider, a man who puts us above all else. And I've supported him through the Army, with love and fidelity. I hope what our sons see in their own home will be stronger than the BS and lies they see in the world.

@noemidemelo8959
@noemidemelo8959 2 года назад
@@deborahdean8867 now I understand better what you mean. Yes definitely the system is making things difficult for everyone, either married or single it's hard to meet ends, but it's even harder to raise children, as more money is needed to raise them and that means more time at work, but also they need attention and that takes time. We all have to do our best to change and improve this situation or there's no future for humanity.

Dr. Peterson, I know that a lot of your following is male, but I'd like to share my testimony as a woman in my early 20s. You have done so much to help me align with my potential, both personally and also in my wider culture. I found your content when I was in a very dark place, and you helped me heal by helping me learn to take responsibility for my life, and you encouraged me to become as educated as I am intelligent. I am thriving in my life and you played a large role in that success for me. I appreciate you so much and everything you do for us young people, men and women. You teach us how to speak up for what we believe in, even inside a world that is constantly making that a more difficult endeavor. So Thank you!! Keep it up!

"and you encouraged me to become as educated as I am intelligent" MAJOR props to you for making that distinction! I know far too many people who think those things are one and the same and by getting a fancy "education" that somehow makes them "intelligent". Not even close. I have observed many highly intelligent people who have very little education, which is what made me aware of the distinction between the two. I have also of course seen more than a fair share of people educated far beyond their intellects (Dunning Kruger anyone?). I have since always said that education is only as good as the "idiot" that wields it. Good on you for "cleaning your room"! 🙂

I've never heard it put together so eloquently, but Dr. Peterson's point on the father's purpose being the construction of theoretical walls so children can play without fear of the outside world really resonates with me. My children are grown now, but my highest priority was always keeping any external problems or stresses out of their existence. Frankly, I fought with my wife about this a lot over the years, but ultimately I was successful. Many serious issues that would have caused them anxiety were shielded from their awareness. If you can provide that to your kids.... A safe, stable, and loving environment........ You've succeeded as a parent. If you need to be a better person to do it, then be better. If you need to work harder to ensure it, then work harder. You'll never do anything more important and I think we're losing the drive to do it.
@michaelpalmer4212

Great point. With young kids now I am similarly working hard to create a safe, stable, and loving environment for our kids to grow, learn, play, become aware of responsibility and cleanliness, etc. It is a joy to bless my family this way, and become better in the process. In the future the task will be to prepare them for standing on their own 2 feet in the real world, exploring and solidifying what they believe, their values, to think for themselves, and leading them in the way to prepare them to lead themselves. Thanks for your comment.

It's a shame that the idea of toxic masculinity almost instantly morphed into the idea that all masculinity is toxic. It's obvious that masculinity, as well as femininity for that matter, can become toxic. But masculinity in and of itself ought to be fostered nurtured to bring those traits out in our young men so that they can be the most competent, capable, and necessary individuals as possible. We are going to continue to need people who can get things done and solve problems, respond to emergencies, fight for those who can't fight for themselves, and lead.
@fredpsimas1874
@fredpsimas1874 2 года назад
We live in an environment of out of control femininity…women and men adopting the perfect human feminine thought patterns are ruining the world by being overly risk averse and conflict averse. Most men are now simping fools following what society deems as appropriate …feminist ideology. Men must be in alignment with their biology and not what confused society wants
@SAVAGESUN
@SAVAGESUN 2 года назад
I disagree. Masculinity in the purest sense is positive, and the characterisitcs that have been used to describe toxic masculinity are merely describing something else altogether. Once you attribute negative aspects to masculinity, it then becomes something else that is not masculinity at all, and in fact, is something specifically contrary to masculinity.
@pictzone
@pictzone 2 года назад
@@SAVAGESUN Not all masculinity is positive. Some masculinity is extremely toxic as it's very close to that animalic drive deep within us. We would kill each other over simple necessities if we would use that side of our masculinity
@etsequentia6765

Whan feminists use the term 'toxic masculinity' you can be damn sure they mean ALL men and boys. They can deny it till their dying breath but seeing as how their feminist ideology is predicated upon the foundation of hating and dehumanizing the male half of humanity, they really cannot deny or excuse their anti-male bias: 'toxic masculinity' is just their latest thinly veiled attack on men and boys and an expression of their seething hatred towards them.

Greatly appreciate when Jordan Peterson politely cuts the audience’s laughter short. He’s a master of delivering clear, concise, and palatable messages. Partly because he’s humble enough to cut the audience’s laughter and applause short to ensure they/we understand he’s making a serious point. He’s had a couple of “gotcha” moments, but that’s not why I’m interested in what JP has to say. He’s at his best when he’s calm and NOT “dunking” on his detractors. Glad to see that he’s not just another DW pundit that exclusively “dunks on libs.” IMHO that sort of content can be entertaining, but simultaneously unproductive depending on the audience/consumer. At the end of the day I get that DW is a business and that “gotcha” moments are sexy, but I believed there’s already too much of that on the internet 😅.

One of the most profound 13 minutes of video I've seen in a long time - and I've watched a lot of Dr JP. So many "Ohhh... I got it" moments in that video in relation to understanding the lunacy of the left, how they view power, the importance of "play"... so much "gold" being unearthed in such a brief window of time. I continue to note how audiences are so quietly respectful, drinking in truth, revelation, knowledge, encouragement, and all the other things a good "father" would bring to his "kids". I'm so grateful the Lord has seen fit to place JP with us in these last days of our planet, during the Age of Deceit. I don't know what the world would be like without his confident, no-BS, humble, truthful voice cutting through all the woke, post-modern, leftist crap, but it wouldn't be good. Dr Peterson, as someone who comes from a different culture, English only crossed my path at age 7, I work in 2 worlds, what I have witnessed, mainly over the last 20 years, although as I've come to discover this has been happening since the 70's, modern feminism has been transformed into an increasingly virulent anti male or male hatred ideology, hell bent on destroying masculinity in the West. This phenomenon has been more insidious in the Nordic countries and slowly making its way south in Europe, is endemic in the Anglosphere. Here in Australia, I can safely say, there is not ONE official course, university or private education, law, policing, that treats men as victims of DV. That madness is spearheading the left's move to destroying the nuclear family and destroy our nations from within. I believe that many of the people running this ideology are, among other things, malignant narcissists. That's why they are also after brainwashing children from kindergarten, the fathers are no longer there to protect their kids, the left wing fanatics are having a field day...

This was something I picked up on a few years ago and Jordan's articulated what I couldn't put into words (in regards to men castrating themselves after having their fundamental identity characterized as inherently evil). The criticisms towards masculinity will only negatively affect the men that are sensitive to them, which means they hit the exact opposite of the group the critics are attempting to target. Same is true for the rules and supposed interventions (like those mandatory seminars colleges have where they tell their incoming male students that rape is wrong and that being a rapist is wrong... ridiculous). The criminals and dark triad types will continue to do what they've always done, meanwhile these things have demoralized and suppressed the men that would otherwise be a pleasure to see succeed and to interact with. It's not only bad for the men, but it's a real tragedy for women... unintended consequences are a MF.
@rebeccashields9626
@rebeccashields9626 2 года назад
I do think a little bit that explaining certain things are rape can be a good idea. I think there are men who legitimately think that if a girl is unconscious but in bed with you it is okay to put your dick in her. Men who maybe are kind of jerks but wouldn’t necessarily rape someone sober. So specifically explaining that even if someone was making out with you naked, if said person becomes unconscious it doesn’t mean you can put things in their holes can be helpful. I legitimately think there are men who didn’t realize that was rape. I say this because I know multiple women for whom this has happened to. These men were probably generally either jerks or maybe very naive and kind of entitled but probably wouldn’t actively seek out to rape someone sober. So teaching this could be helpful I think.

As a clinician in the field or psychology who has studied human behavior for well over a decade and through two graduate programs I actually performed some unpublished research on this very issue with some of my therapy clients and it turned out to be a heck of intervention that helped them with their perceptions of masculinity . I gave a small sample (ten people) of both sexes and various political backgrounds a list of positive and negative behavioral traits and asked them to identify the ones they associated more with femininity or masculinity and their attitudes demonstrated that “toxic femininity” followed more of a borderline pathology while “toxic masculinity” was more aligned with narcissistic traits. A minimum of six of the ten viewed the following to be toxically feminine: Turning people against each other, turning on a person because they made a request of you, silent treatment, sexual denial, seeking defensive responses, sabotage of reputation of others, sacrificing personal identity for security, relational aggression, ostracism, nosiness, being indirect, being indecisive, illogical behavior, hysterical behavior, gossip, forced choice (you are either my persecutor or rescuer), exclusion, backhanded complimenting and emotional impulsive aggression, using jealousy of the partner, weaponizing victimhood, withholding A minimum of six of the ten viewed the following as traits of toxic masculinity: aspirations of dominance over other people in their lives, avoidance, denying emotions/importance of emotions, emphasis on power, harassing behaviors, hazing, justifying infidelity, menacing, might makes right philosophy, my way or the highway philosophy, objectification, overly rational, physically aggressive, punishing others though you demand more than you do, threatening violence/abandonment, tyrannical behavior The following behaviors were even at five votes: Anxious attachment, blame/blaming others for own issues of insecurity and feelings of inferiority, deliberate confrontation, development of self-serving narrative, dismissing, domestic violence, emphasis on image over substance, FOG (fear,obligation, guilt), forced isolation of partner, harsh judgment/criticism, insincerity, use of instrumental or manipulative language, interrupting/not listening, invalidating, jealousy, judgment-inferring requests, keeping score/tabs, lack of personal accountability, negative contrasting, neglecting needs of the partner, resenting request of others, obsessive behaviors, seeking to control via eggshell-walking, shouting down the beliefs and opinions of others, stalking, being unapologetic, being unreasonable and being verbally aggressive. When it came to positive feminine/masculine traits, the vast majority of categories were 6/4 with only a couple of 5/5s. Both men and women TRYING to become ALL of these traits...is that intrinsically possible... looking at our different biological inclinations and constant societal demands? Don't you think, taking traits necessary for development and stability of chosen relationship(s) is more feasible? And here, while developing related positive traits. I'm of the latter choice.

@@heaven3297 we could probably have a long conversation about traits vs virtues here and it’s a daunting task saying I am going to become all of these things at once. If we are thinking Big 5 traits, we can only modulate them so much. For example, if you are working with someone who is high neuroticism, low openness, low extroversion you will typically have someone who is avoidant and socially anxious and often they will lean heavily into those traits. They’ll never be Johnny Knoxville. However they can move a bit to the middle by socializing with small groups who have common interests, validity testing negative thoughts, rooting out their insecurities and gradually taking them out of what usually is a paralysis of inaction. When were are talking about Big Five traits, which are more deeply embedded in our personality but we are using traits and virtues interchangeably, you realize there are things we can aspire to be in life, honestly and truly, rather than being a chameleon of sorts who just becomes momentarily who they need to be. For example, I was like the poster child for what we now refer to ADHD but in 1982, teachers, parents and school administrators didn’t say l”et’s get this boy help,” they said “he’s a conduct problem.” I was not very conscientious so I get bad grades and had zero guidance. My life by age 18 was a total mess and it started to hurt when I would hear that I could never be emotionally consistent, was unreliable and a lost cause. As a challenge I started looking at the things in life that I was doing wrong and took time to embody (truly) those virtues. Now, people who have known me for decades would tell you I am compassionate (have to be to be a good therapist), genuine, honest, assertive, congruent, punctual and reliable almost to a fault, generally positive (though we all have our moments). It takes work to take these traditionally feminine/masculine virtues and work towards becoming them but they fall into place as we become better and better people. It takes honest self-inventory and accountability that leads one to changed behavior. However gradual, becoming a better person through this process (not for anyone in particular) just because you prioritize continual, honest growth will enhance your friendships and relationships as a sort of ancillary benefit. If you can honestly identify as a person of virtue, the right people in your life will absolutely see enhancement in your relationships and want to be around you. Maintaining these virtues through adversity can often be tough but the people who do and will love you will also respect you if you can be congruent during hard times.

My dad has never encouraged me. We live in the same house and yet i can't remember the last time we had an actual conversation. He is a provider but the only thing we talk about is when he has to pay my college fee or something. It is so sad to not have a male role model growing up. It results in low self esteem and low confidence if you don't have someone who protects you emotionally. It hurts me so much to think about this.

Most of the best role model for young men are not gonna be in the Mainstream of even your family group. Perhaps it's that Uncle who checked out of the system and never married.

I think Wim Hof is a great role model for men right now. I think one of the main problems for men (and women too) is the lack of any idea of what to do with our sexual energy beyond coitus. When we realize that this energy can be used to raise our consciousness through breathing exercises and physical postures, it changes everything. It's unfair to blame young people for their failures to do more with their energy when this ancient knowledge of how to manage and channel it is hidden from them. This, with a connection to nature helps us realize we are all one; and when that level of realization is reached it changes our inner drives. It all starts with connecting to the one thing we all have, and that's our breath. Wim Hof is a great example of someone full of voluntary play, it's basically his complete way of being! Look up his instructions for breathing, it's completely free and easy to do.

I'd recommend everyone read and re-read and study Kipling's If. As a relatively short poem, its a better outline of masculinity and human excellence more broadly than anything I've come across.

Change in any society happens with each individual. Use great ideas to build yourself into a man of strength and character, a man of your word, skilful and with a purpose that also serves the ones around you as well. If you enjoy topics about masculinity and mastery, I invite you to explore the videos I share on the Mastery Order Channel. Challenge yourself with some concepts about manhood, explore your masculine potential to the maximum and become the kind of man you would admire. We can only better ourselves together, as men among men, so I invite you to use what I share and, of course, share your own opinions so that others can benefit from them as well. All the best to you!

That's a great point about the importance of play in a balanced social setting and its relationship with power. The people I have worked with over the years who were the most difficult to get along with all shared the trait of being humorless and most of them had this enormous chip on their shoulder, a you can't treat me like that sort of attitude. And they also shared another trait, they were all terrible leaders. I have found that most people who try to dominate are compensating for a time, be it past or present, where they were dominated. They were never taught how to lead so they mimic the style that was used with them. Power for power's sake never ends well.

What you describe Dr Peterson, of somebody opposing male traits even in their own son, is exactly what happened to me. It is taking a lifetime to overcome what this did to me, and how it shaped me away from access to my own will and ambition. It is truly diabolical and has created deep and enduring sickness. I don’t always agree with you, but I’ve been coming back to you over the years because you see this, and very few others do. Good father figures are hard to come by, and I’m so glad you’ve put yourself out there in this way, because I have needed to hear another man say that he has sees what has been done. It’s a very lonely struggle, and very hard to be open about because frankly, it’s embarrassing to have castrated oneself (albeit not literally). I hope I will continue to strive toward regrowing the connection to my masculine energy, because I need it to feel whole, and I can see the world around me needs it too.

Just remember WHY. The establishment is going to try and twist this to their advantage again to create an even more violent male population. Woke people were really just designed to be a scapegoat to bring back aggressiveness.
