The Cyberbullying Disaster! Body Language Analyst REACTS to Taylor Lautner Video. 

All revenue from this video is going to charity! I’ve been getting a bunch of messages and comments from some of you telling me to what extent cyberbullying has devastated the lives of your loved ones. Some of you have experienced really heart breaking results of this cruel phenomenon. I think the “10 years ago” is because 10 years ago he had just recently ended his “Twilight” era and was arguably at the height of his career and for being known for being the “shirtless hot guy”. So I am sure he was being very critical about his physical appearance. He also was told that in order to keep his part in Twilight he had to “bulk up” and so he had went through an incredibly structured food and training schedule so that he could keep the part. That had to mess with his head a lot at his age. I am glad that he spoke up about this, has found self love, and his Just Be Nice at the end was great!! ❤ Thank you for covering this!!!❤

Taylor Lautner is completely gorgeous - I don't know what universe those people are living in. Also, I geeked out over your analysis of the verb tense changes, from past to past continuous. I love grammar and didn't realize you paid such close attention to things like that. Great video, as always. I love that he ends with a full summary statement for his message “Just be nice!” He sounds a little choked up again on that ending, and his eyebrows along with the rest of his body language say this is the single most important thing a person can do.

I honestly don't know who he is, but clearly he is an unbelievably handsome man. If I was half as attractive as him I'd be happy. People criticizing his looks are just rediculous.

He seems like a genuinely thoughtful, caring person. I admire him for being so candid about his struggles and journey to where he is now. His plea for people to be kind is simple and important. I was bullied as a child. I think it’s harder on people now because there are more invasive platforms and the bullying can follow you into your safe places. Thank you for what you’ve doing here.

People did the same thing to Michael Jackson and he wasn’t able to recover this well. It’s awful that people expect others to never age. Some people are just despicable and nasty to their core🙄

My gut is telling me, about the eyebrow thing.. he's still in the early stages of this emotional development and confidence. It's like he's convincing himself it doesn't hurt, it's not a reflection. We should know and be better by now but it still hurts. He's just in a place where he knows these comments do not define him. That is his truth and I'm so proud of him for getting there. I can't imagine the pressure in the lime light. I myself struggle with standing in confidence and feeling, almost like an imposter, when I am trying to convince someone I'm not bothered by insults. Because of course I'm bothered. But still I know, it does not define me. I hope that makes sense!

I have not been to a single reunion in the 40 years since graduation, and I still occasionally hear those words again. The best thing we can do is to live a happy, productive life in spite of those who would tear us down. Thanks again for all you do! ☺️

This was very good. I am 69 and my mother taught me and I taught my children and grandchildren "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Nuff said. I like your channel kiddo, keep up the good work!

He really starts to get choked up in the tone of his, his facial expressions, and the tenseness of his body. One of the things I noticed first when his voice started to quiver was that you could see his neck tense which definitely was causing his vocal cords to constrict. He is still extremely affected by these memories but let’s his audience know he’s in a different place in his head now before showing people what it is that has him upset. It’s as if he has let everyone know before he starts that what he’s about to adress is something we,too, can overcome.

I think his 3rd eyebrow flash when he said "10 years ago" is emphasizing how far he's come with dealing with and handling negative people/comments. I think he's proud of himself for making this video and dealing with this issue in a healthier way.

Thank You so much for doing this video! I think the "10 years ago" eyebrow flash is him expressing the unhealthy mental state he was in 10 years ago, probably even a little before Twilight. I say that because of him saying where he places "Value", 10 years ago he might have placed "value" in others opinions/feelings/thoughts towards him, if you don't have a good support group you heavily regard what others say. So now I'm sure he has a better a support group so his "value" is on himself and the support group. The eyebrow flash was just him expressing and also remembering that not so great headspace, but this is just my opinion..........thanks again for the video

I have seen people speaking in self help groups that eyebrow flash in surprise of where they were ten years ago and what they have learned help themselves. Like a progress, I've come this far, surprise as they are speaking. That was my take. Thanks for this and it's a piece on a well needed topic.

Okay my favorite part is when you talk about cyberbullying, your research and other studies, and how best to deal with such comments. I'm definitely passing that bit along to my daughter. I also enjoyed the video as a whole. I definitely agree that he aged just fine, so the comments are way out of line. Something I've started to notice, though, is that, in general, the people who would have something positive/neutral to say (or simply move on if they don't like or disagree with something they see) don't comment like they used to. Those folks (and I count myself among them) comment significantly less or not at all because comments have proven to be a cesspool of hate and drama. We all commented more when commenting on the internet, especially via social media, was novel. It's not novel anymore. We're over it, really. Because even if you don't engage with those only looking for a fight, commenting invites just about anything that disturbs your peace. Even on your channel, I've had people reply to my comments that were clearly looking to fight about race and invalidate the POC reality. Then, there are always the scammers replying to every comment. And other times your comment gets completely hijacked by all the strangers commenting and evolves into something you never wanted or intended. Also, sometimes you don't want to overanalyze your statement or to explain it thoroughly and deeply to people who don't understand it. As a result, it seems that the negative people and trolls are even more prevalent in the comments. Because while a lot of us aren't commenting anymore, we are still voyeurs ready to read all the drama in the comments. But comment threads are becoming less and less interesting since they're just trolls trolling each other or just plain complainers. So now voyeurs don't stay nearly as long to read the comments and we skim them for spilled tea or to see if anyone is thinking what we're thinking. If nothing catches our interest, then we're already on to the next. But such conclusions are based on my personal experience and social media circle. It may or may not reflect whatever the average or median experience is.

I don't understand how so many people missed the message that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all...

I really like when you show the person doing the action you're talking about as you're talking about it. Often in your videos, you show the clip then talk about it so it's not always easy to see. I'd love to see you show it at the same time more :)

Whoever it is, doesn't matter, its clear that he was affected by bullying. Another great analysis! Thank you, Spidey! I once got into an argument with s.o. online where he got really nasty expressing something like only an idiot could think like I did. I just responded "I love you too" although it was just a random person on a comment section. This is a typical response for me, I used it when my children had a meltdown over something they couldn't have. His demeanor changed immediately, he was very surprised, laughed and actually made a nice comment. Sometimes you can change a conversation by giving a little love...

Poor guy! I think he looks great!! I hope he is feeling better about himself and doesnt go and ruin his kooks with unneeded surgeries and such!

My take on the '10 years ago' comment is that he is referencing the height of his popularity with the 'Twilight' franchise. Given the amount of snark often directed at the movie series and his higher profile then, the cyber bullying was probably more intense and more frequent. Plus, he was only in his barely out of his teens then and more vulnerable to the negativity.

The eye brow flash with "ten years ago...", the vibe I get is he's come a long way from where he was ten years ago. I think it emphasises his growth from where he was to where he is now. Part of me feels he was remembering for a brief moment, what he felt when reading those negatives comments 10 or so years ago. Tells me he has a stronger mind-set, greater resilience & I'm glad to hear that he doesn't let these negative comments bother him as much as they used to. Cheers for the great video Spidey.

As someone who was bullied by my own parents, I simply cannot emphasize how important it truly is to speak only kindness into this world. Harsh words are not going to change anything, they are only going to distance you from one another.

Even without the body language, what he SAYS speaks so much about how he truly feels about the comments and how they really affected him. What those people who posted the comments said, says ZERO about Taylor and everything about them and their own insecurities and immaturity.

You talking about the computer lecture reminded me of something I did recently. It's not the same but it just reminded me of this. So, about a week or so ago, I went to the doctors for an annual checkup. They just started using a new system where you answer questions on a tablet rather than to the doctor (the doctor leaves the room). And these questions are pretty personal. They were the depression, anxiety, and suicide questions. Now, I am always very honest when doctors ask me questions. There's no point in lying. However, I know a lot of people are scared or uncomfortable answering these types of questions to another person. I told the doctor that I think this new system is AWESOME. I believe that we're more truthful when there is no risk of being judged by another person, especially face-to-face. I also told the doctor that I really hope the company who is supplying the questionnaire also includes questions about alcohol consumption, drug use, and sexual activity in the future.

"Ten years ago" was one year after the last twilight movie premiere. He had trouble with the dwindling fame and struggled a lot with imposter syndrome. So his confidence was low and, as he mentioned in this video, he valued the wrong things. I think mentioning exactly 10 years was no coincidence, and he put emphasis on those years because they were particularly difficult. But I'm not a big fan, so this is just what I found in other interviews. Thanks for this video I've enjoyed it a lot and I think it's really helpful.

One can say that it comes down to the person's sense of power. It's as if they feel "I've been bullied and lost my power and control, so i will bully someone else to get that power and control back".

Hey Spidey, I just wanted to thank you for covering such an important topic. Something else I found interesting is how the cadence of his voice changes when he says "Just be NICE..JUST be nice....Just BE nice." The first one, his voice cracks and it feels like he's literally choking back emotions, the second his voice is still quivering but its like he's trying to calm himself down and the third its like a tired acceptance. For me, I got severely bullied offline for being different and socially awkward while online I could hide who I was, what I looked like, my personality and everything else. Like Tom Holland said in his interview, if they ain't got his personal phone number to text...then their comment is irrelevant. An update on this story which I found interesting and connects to your computer case that you talked about, some of the usernames who had made comments that hurt his feelings, commented on the video apologizing for what they did and forgetting that he was also a human just like them or admitting that it was due to their own difficulty. I think its important and it happened since he was kind about it, he didn't curse them out, try to shame them like "Look at these terrible, evil people! Shame on them." But acted more like a disappointed friend while trying to hold a space of forgiveness and kindness.

PS: Excellent wisdom given regarding how to deal with negative comments. You're right, I hadn't thought of that. We DO teens to imagine that everyone commenting is a healthy, intellectual,balanced person. And that does sting!! To shift that thought process to consider that the person commenting is likely NOT that, is excellent and practical advice. Thank you so much for that! I so appreciate your clear and concise lessons as well as the linking of stuff we can read for ourselves on body language. My anxiety has been helping me read people in the wild for years! It is really validating to watch these videos and hear your explanations and see that I have been naturally picking up on this stuff without really knowing it. I hope that makes sense!

I am glad you posted this one - Cyberbullying is such an important subject to discuss. Re: your offer of donating to CyberSmile - this is no surprise and speaks volumes to who you are. Bless you. I can sometimes get caught up in a judgement in my head over something I see or hear, but recognise that this comes from a place of feeling "less than" myself. It's not an unusual thing (our thoughts towards ourselves are usually the worst) and when analysed it's quite interesting to see what is behind it. If you're writing something from a place of anger, defensiveness, upset, judgement, write it in draft and wait three days. Then see how you feel. With personal opinions, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? If the answer is no to any of these, stop.

I think the time line of 10 years ago, when he was at the height of his fame at an incredibly young age, this type of criticism/bullying would have been, and probably was, devastating. Remembering back to the Twilight frenzy, it was divided into two factions: Team Edward and Team Jacob(who Lautner played). While each character was incredibly popular within their own fan base, they would be reffered to in very derogatory terms by those who cheered the other character, and it became quite vicious as the promoters of the film really played this competition up. The characters in the book were contentious, and both vying over the same girl. All three actors have spoken in depth about how damaging this attention was to them at their age(all were teenagers). It has had a huge impact on each of their careers and how they have dealth with their fame. The other two actors in this triangle are Kristin Steward and Robert Pattinson, and all three are known for their strong desire to stay out of the limelight, and it all goes back to the horrendous things they all went through when making and promoting the Twilight movies. It's obvious they all suffer a great deal of anxiety, still.

People are horrible online.. I get attacked daily.. can't even imagine what it's like for celebs.. 😢

I feel like it could possibly be related to Twilight saga the reason he stated 10 years that was the release date of Twilight Saga and if I remember correctly there was a lot of back-and-forth comments about him. Also if I recall there was also an article posted about him that stated that he had disappeared shortly after and went off grid. I'm not really familiar with Taylor however I vaguely remember this. My feeling is that all the comments at that time affected him. And possibly that's when he went of grid like when he was talking about staying in the house maybe that's when he did it. These are just theories and my opinion and take on what you had asked us to give you our input on. Spidey I feel you are an amazing content creator and I thank you for your time and knowledge that you have shared with us. Its always fun and educational !

The eyebrow flash when he says “10 years ago” might be like “wow, what an ordeal that was” kind of a memory. I think my eyebrows do that when I talk about my nasty divorce 20 years ago. Everyone that knows me knows that’s a huge topic for me. Maybe 10 years ago was huge for him.

I furrow my brow when I am confused. Like when someone tells me something that makes me think "Wait, What? I don't remember that" or "That doesn't sound right" or "When did THAT happen" He might be furrowing, too, because he was kind of upset at the idea that he had been feeling good about himself, and it was spoiled by the comments.

The distinction you make between people of good character and those who make negative comments is one I hadn't thought of, but intuitively it makes complete sense. Our emotions fire so quickly and, left unchecked, they can lead us to internalize the negativity we're seeing and hearing. It's those kinds of comments that really "flip the switch" and help me see things in the right perspective. So per the eyebrow flash... Ten years ago, he'd just finished the Twilight saga and his next big role was Abduction, which he was universally and, I'd even say, abusively criticized for. Many would say it killed his acting career. So when I first heard him say "If this had happened to me ten years ago...", I immediately wondered if he'd been dealing with ideas of self harm. He was in a painful place back then. I can even hear it in his voice. So to me, that eyebrow flash is emphasis, and maybe even surprise that he lived through that. He was in a dark place, and comments like this might have killed him.

I was told once ‘What other people think of you is none of your business’ and so began a change in my self-esteem, instead of worrying what other people thought, I concerned myself with own reflections. The next big phrase to hit home was ‘Don’t accept criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from’. Great to hear you add in the section about anonymity even (particularly?!) in reference to computer feedback. As if the world weren’t difficult enough, more generations grow up with globalised opinions weighing on their every action. In reference to the ‘ten year’ comment, my recollection is TL had to prove his worth to keep the role as Jacob, bulk-out, thick-soled shoes for height. Even at the peak of Twilight he had to fight to prove he was good enough…that has to hurt a young human. Nice insight, decent human being, poignant topic.

Love your kindness! People who make mean comments live or on line are only revealing their own insecurities. I have a funny thing to add about unconsciously reacting to a computer as a person. When I play a phone game against a program-generated opponent, and I see a good move when it is their turn, I look away from the move so as not to draw their attention to the move. Cracks me up that I'm treating the program as conscious.

Bullying can affect everyone, no matter their status, looks or position. From all of your videos, this might be my favorite. It is so important to spread awareness and kindness without opinions, judgments or negativity. I’ve always appreciated that about your behavior analysis, you always try to be the most objective and let your personal opinion out of your online content so we can all have our own without being influenced in a way or another. But lately with T.Holland’s vidéo and now this one, I appreciate it even more that you’re using your platform to give these topics a positive and instructive platform. I had never heard of the « imagine that bully being that person on the street you wouldn’t give credit to ». It’s so important to remember that. Only someone not aligned with themselves could be a bully… I’ve learned it the hard way being bullied myself for most of my childhood/teenage years. Thank you Spidey for such a wonderful work.

I think he looks really good, it would be horrible to be compared to your younger self all the time. Yes he looked great when he was a teenager working out every day for a movie character....now he's a very handsome man!

The video is not inverted. You can tell by the direction his shirt buttons. Men’s shirts button to the right, with the left side up and the openings facing right. This is because in the past, you were made and/or taught rigidly to be right handed. So, you would wear your sword on the left side of your body to be able to draw easily with your right hand. So, you would also need to have your jacket openings positioned so they wouldn’t interfere with your weapon as you drew it. Taylor’s buttons pare in the correct direction if you were actually standing in front of him. His buttons are underneath and that side of the shirt flaps to his left. His button holes are on top and that edge of the shirt faces to his right.

I don’t get it, he looks great. He looks like a normal early-30-something to me. Well I mean, a conventionally attractive early-30-something. People are such trash. Heaven forbid somebody AGE.

I think the eyebrow flash on "10 years" is in reference to how surprised he is that it has been over 10 years since the last Twilight movie would have been released. I just looked up the series to confirm this. Since the comments are in reference to how he has aged, emphasis here is almost like saying "It's been ten years guys, don't be surprised I look different now". In addition to that, it emphasizes that this is something he struggled with 10 years ago, basically at the end of his career's peak. This would have been a critical time for him as he would be now looking for new projects and it's likely he was typecasted because of his role in Twilight. I only saw the first movie so I don't know how his character progressed, but in that one I remember he was a love interest of the female protagonist who did not even choose him. He did not win the girl even with his striking looks, which were a main focus his role. So it makes sense that a lot of his identity was tied to his looks at that time. Hi Spidey, regarding discussion at 27:16, I wonder if raised eyebrows emphasizing "10 years ago" reflects a "personal celebration" of how much work he has done over 10 years to feel stronger, where negative criticism now doesn't affect him as much as 10 years ago.

Loved the video! Favorite part was the end when Spidey shared his wisdom on how to put negative comments or advice from people who don't know you in their place. Wish I had heard that before I had to learn it over many years....sigh 😀

Great video as always but especially thank you for the last part and you thoughtful, compassionate and overall great words at the end! I never thought about it this way and will definitely do so from now on, even if i am not a public person - i think you can apply this to any type of bully! Also I might continue your personal "study" about negative comments by people you respect, just to really implement this information into myself that intelligent, respectful people don't behave in such ways!

Great analysis, Spidey! You're awesome for showing this & covering a topic that affects so many people these days. Super kind & generous of you to support a charity that helps with cyberbullying issues. People have gotten way out of line on the internet! Too much immaturity, ignorance, & hateful behavior. I think the keyboard gives those types of people an artificial power they wouldn't have in real life. Definitely stems from low self-esteem/insecurity & lack of empathy... perhaps a release of anger & frustration, loneliness with no coping skills. Nor social skills, apparently.

I processed it as shock, personal incredulity that saying "10 years ago" actually applied to the time he was thinking about. Much the same way I do when I think about my early adulthood being over 25 years ago.

So grateful for this video and imo it should be shared everywhere for everyone to watch and listen too. I really think this should be shown in schools especially so our young ones can have the answer to why this happens and given tools to deal with the constant cyber bullying that they deal with. Thank you!

27:33 I think the eyebrow flash is happening when he says “10 years ago”, because 10 years ago is around when the Twilight movies were out. (Breaking Dawn part 2 was released in 2012). Obviously his role in this series is one of his most known. He was clearly very in shape for this role in those films and he was 19 or 20 at the time. I think he’s emphasizing that at that time (when he was 19) comments about his body would have affected him differently than they do now, 10 or so years later.
