The solution to the Dagestani problem is for fighters to adapt, and get better. The same way the OGs had to learn BJJ to be able to beat the BJJ guys. The sport is so young, and still has a lot of room to evolve.
In my eyes there are two main reasons: 1- they are not as bound to partying as fighters from other countries. Imagine dudes like The Spider or Bones without drugs and partying. 2- their main combat sport over there is sambo, wich is basically MMA. We usually have to go over wrestling/bjj, judo, kickboxing/muay thai, etc. To even thinking about being a complete athlete. They don't need to mix the martial arts because it's already mixed

Sambo doesn't teach you striking. It's the whole culture in Dagestan. The UFC is now a real opportunity for families to have better circumstances. So they drill one or two sons or all of them to become fighters. What is the alternative? The russian army? I'm always in awe watching their commitment to the sport. Russia has some great boxing minds, too. They are coming, indeed..
I think that's the biggest difference. Fighting is as legit a career path as being a construction worker, bus driver, or desk job. The everyman of their society can earn a living just off of pro fighting, instead of over in the US where it's still taboo to want to do ANY professional sport after High School, let alone cage fighting

We watched this man get knocked out four times in a row and an additional time by thin air, all in a single fight, all before he was signed to the ufc. Dude has a PHD and lectures at CTE Society We Eat Those University in-between camps. The fact this dude is in any conversation when he has the worst chin known to man speaks a lot to how bad his division is.

I 100% respect this. Hate them all you want but you can’t act like they’re not good. Majority of them are undefeated and don’t say padded resumes either it’s repeating something you heard somewhere else. Even Abubakar khabibs cousin that is considered the worst of the bunch is actually very good when you see him and his skills. He still has a majority winning record and he beats other sambo ppl. I’ve seen a khabib fight where it was more like the ref was trying to make him lose.. khabib was clearly beating the guy up and he would constantly make them start over and stand up it was clear that he was not helping khabib in any way. Poatan's leg kicks cripple Huggermedov (even worse than Jan's did) and Huggermedov tries desperate takedowns, gets Pereira down only to realize he can't submit or GnP him because Pereira is too strong even with horrible grappling skills. He gases himself out trying too hard and then in next round starts swinging wildly to save his legs from getting chopped down completely and catches that left hook and goes to sleep. You are welcome.
A big reason is that in western countries there are a lot of other sports where you can make way more money while taking no damage. Think about basketball, soccer, tennis, football. Before a guy in Europe considers doing MMA he probably tried some of those sports. In Daghestan they just fight.
I really hope Johnny kos him in the first round. Id love to see him vs pereira.(although i think Johnny would lose, it would be a pretty exciting matchup). If ankalaev wins, pereira wont be champ for long.
When Pereira fought Jan, they all said he won't win, he will get submitted in first. When he fought Jiri, they all said he will get KO'd by Jiri's unorthodox style. Now that he will probably fight Huggermedov, they will all say he will get outhugged and submitted. Just watch. I told people what happens to Jiri and it happened. Jiri got his legs kicked out and was trying desperately to get finish and ran into that left hook. Huggermedov will get his legs kicked out, then in desperation take Pereira down and you will all realize he can't submit/GnP him like Jan and Jiri couldn't either, and gas himself in process of doing so and then get KO'd on his feet in next round. Alex might suck as grappler but he is improving every day and more importantly he is strong AF and can defend himself even with horrible grappling skills. As much as I would like Walker to KO this snoozefest I secretly hope Huggermedov wins so Pereira can show you he can beat Huggers too.

It’s because in the west nobody cares about doing MMA. Most westerners do soccer, basketball, tennis, football, volleyball… Those sports pay more while being less dangerous. In Italy a soccer player in a B league team makes more than 90% of UFC roaster.
My theory is they are so good because they train like old school boxers but applied bassically for MMA. They train like its their day to day job. Where as, some modern athletes train like oh lets get in shape for trainingscamp. If Jan can exploit the leg kicks then Poatan can for sure. He out leg kicked Jan, defended himself well in grappling exchanges against Jan and JIri, and Magomed's boxing won't work well against Poatan's spacey kickboxing
I'LL EXPLAIN WHY DAGESTANI & BRAZILIAN FIGHTERS ARE SO GREAT IN THE UFC: Their fighting style which is heavy grappling based they no damage pretty much & their opponent pretty much take most of the damage in fights! Top of that their opponent feed into their grappling by grappling them at the wall or floor the Dagestani Fighters & Combat Sambo Grapplers are designed to grapple rather than striking their opponents just get snowballed until Combat Sambo Grappler's opponent is hulk smashed. The problem with strikers is if they don't have 1 hit knockout power it means there bodies are going to take large amounts of damage but a Dagestani Fighterr who has 1 hit knockout power or not having knockout power will still take little to no damage & give large amounts of pain to the enemy on the floor or wall. Just watch Khabib Nurmagomedov & Khamzat Chimeav their fights prove what I am saying it's the best fighting style it's more effective & reliable than heavy striker based style for sure hah! THAT'S WHY THEY SO GREAT LET'S GO DAGESTAN & BRASIL HAH!
I feel like the Dagestanis are kinda equivalent to the Bill Russel Celtics. Still pretty early in the sports history, but the main league had developed, not an exciting style, but they just kept winning for almost a decade until the league caught up

But i felt you, alot like Chael Sonnen have some sort of bias when it comes to Dhagestani talent. We have enough MMA fans hating on them for the wrong reasons and it kinda sounded like MMAche was the same. It really does seem like a racial thing coming from Americans if i'm being honest. If Khabib or Islam were American fighters the UFC would be promoting them as the best thing ever but since they talk with an accent and have different values it really seems people dont appreciate these guys for their talent but they just dont belong somehowe. We've been hearing about a "Dagestani takeover" and "those guys are just build different bro" for over half a decade by now, and we're still waiting for it. Dagestan/caucasus fighters are the most overrated in the sport, don't get me wrong they have a lot of good fighters, but no more then the others countries that have a big combat sport culture too, they have about one really good fighter by divisions. I think what might be happening is that they have some huge political and social backing in the caucus region. There's the camp that is funded by that warlord Kadyrov and he's pumping a lot of money into all of the potential prospects out there. So as long as that guy seriously funds the training, we might always see an elite fighter/1 or 2 champs from the region- however I agree with you that it's exaggeration when people claim a full take over of the UFC/MMA

Now that testing isn't going to be as serious in the UFC, the Dagestanis will suddenly be a bit less dominant. Their grappling style is still very dominant but let's not pretend several of them haven't been popped for steroids, analogues to cover up steroids, etc.

@@tarci2994 sorry, idk what happened there. What I meant to say was: The Dagestanis are so successful because their fighting style is incredible for MMA. Extremely good ground control, they control the legs the entire time they're on the ground, they favor position over submission/big explosions (the main issue with American grappling style - huge amounts of athleticism and energy required with fairly minimal focus on doing something with the takedown). The Dagestanis also live a very strict lifestyle which allows them to not get caught up in bullshit, they stay focused on training, etc. That doesn't mean they don't take PEDs. Russians have had a history of not being allowed to compete in the Olympics due to excessive PED abuse, particularly in the wrestling area. Let's not conflate passing a drug test as meaning being a lifetime natural though. I know countless potheads who pass marijuana tests for work on a regular basis - this is no different

Listen, you can hate these Dagestan guys all you want. They have changed the UFC and it’s forcing everyone else to level up, making those people exciting and better overall in the long term. Take Volk for instance, dude leveled up like crazy to fight Islam, and smoked Rodriguez in his next fight. Also I like to see effectiveness rather than a slug fest. I enjoy the technique, the style match-ups, and I understand a lot of people just want to see knockouts, which I think is dumb, but that’s my opinion. I think it’s a mostly casual fan base, which is important to the sport, but If you can’t beat them, you’re not the best, and that’s what really matters. That’s the sport. Also Dagestan fighters are really implementing striking. Islam, Ankalaev, Shara, Umar.. they’re mostly becoming not so one dimensional. Merab might shoot takedowns and fail every 10 seconds but he has a fighting style like Colby and he hits you on the break which is interesting to me even though I don’t like him. If you like striking, watch boxing it’s simple.

3:06 so I do BJJ and here is something that I realized : Fighting hard every day is a great way to get injured. I rolled with bigger guys 4 months ago, I had no technique , I had no skill or tactics for bringing them down. I pulled my groin. After my groin got injured, my knees fell next in the chain. To compensate, I played "games" during class. I practiced Escapes for a week, after that I not only became good at escaping, but I also somehow got better at Jiu Jitsu? 4 months of nursing an injury later, I go back to class because I can't stand it anymore. Fighting hard is alright, you gotta do that, but doing it every day against people bigger than me with no technique was a bonehead move. Practicing a technique every day for a week just made me a better fighter.

Only way to beat them is to be as dedicated to the sport as they are, get amazing cardio, and master a martial art that is a counter to wrestling/sambo

US wrestling does not kill you. It just makes you wish you were dead for the first year or so. But our training paradigm is very different than dagastan's. One is not better than another but the difference is that our guys generally do not start as early, and have way more emphasis on academics.
