Hi Luke! Glad the internet is still hanging in there for you! I'm here watching it myself now as its just a memory...A nice one though and fun to do! Many Thanks as always my friend! :)
Hi Mark! Thanks for stopping by! :) 50 year old basic turntables have AC motors that rely 100% on the national grid being at 50hz. Sunday afternoon we were stuck in a low at 49.6hz for a while (too slow) then we jumped to 50.3hz shortly before this video...I monitor it continually and can control it in the workshop...But not in the house. It's hardly noticeable at 33 or 45rpm...But galloping along at 78rpm it can show to the well trained ear with a familiar track. It's bang on at 50hz though :)
I’ve just purchased a fully complete Dansette Monarch and I’m going to have some fun with it - not sure if it works yet and these videos have been very helpful thanks for posting
Hi Mate, I love your vids and I am a huge vinyl fan. I own a Thorens TD322 and a Thorens TD166 MK11 Both quite old but well loved. While growing up I was a BSR fan, no one I knew was posh enough to own a Garrad-lol. Love old music players especially record players You keep the Vids comming mate I love them.
Excellent Advise! Thank You! I packed New spare Diamond Stylus, Spare Pilot Bulb, Flask, Blanket, Sandwiches and a Scarf...haha!!! I think you would be an amazing carer for one of my babies!...If he got lost on the way I feel comforted that you might find him! Thanks again...You're Great! :)
Wow! Great restoration. That looks brand new. I know that somebody sells the vinyl wrap and the knobs and handles, etc to restore these old phonos, but I don't have a clue where to find them. The electronic restoration is no problem. The cosmetics are a different story.
Yes, always hard finding parts that haven't been made for 50+ years. The cabinet on this machine is a very high quality bespoked reproduction of an original. There is no vinyl covering on this player, only the original type rexine, which is from old stock as it is no longer produced. The catches, hinges and fittings can be purchased from eBay, they are sold by the guy that made this new cabinet. Hope that helps. Great to hear this again, probably my favourite of all Russ's records. I had the 45 in 1959 and wore it down right thru to "Time To Celebrate"! Nice treble sound as well on this player, but is it my imagination or is it running a bit fast? I'm not sure if you can adjust these things though. Anyway enjoy the snow! MT
When I was a tiny kid I wanted to get Side-saddle on 78 and they said it was only 45rpm! Got the 45 and tried playing it on my cabinet wind-up, and ruined the lead-in grooves..
Hi Joe! Thanks for watching my little project! Yes...He's very much in the land of the living now...He's in his box ready for a little journey...I do hear the odd cry of 'Let Me Out'...You know...Just like you get when you have to lock poor old Rowland in the Vault for his on safety...haha!!! :)
Very profound words at the end of this last piece by GarrardAT6. "I'll be back... goodbye." as if you were telling us all you were going away for a while.
I just discovered your RU-vid channel and I love your videos/content but then realised you haven’t been active/on here since 10 years ago. Hope you doing ok. ❤️ Wondering do you have any other social platforms I can follow? Also would you have any Dansette Monarch, Senator, Bermuda, Conquest or Tempo for sale by any chance? Thank you 🙏🏼 Hopefully you see this and reply🤞🏻
a beautiful piece, I have a dansette conquest, could you utell me the exact position in inches to place the legs underneath them (eg. two inches back etc)? I have a set of them on the way
I have two Conquests, neither were made with the leg brackets fitted as standard, only metal feet. Which I assume is the same as yours. To add leg brackets you will have to place wooden supports inside the case to screw the brackets into.(Unless you want it to do the splits) The Bermuda was made with the brackets fitted as standard, and it has supports inside for them. The brackets come with plastic feet screwed into them for table top use.You just remove them and screw legs in their place. Not the answer you probably wanted, but you are trying to do something your Conquest was not designed for without modification. A lot of Dansette's only have hardboard bases. Unscrew the board the turntable is fitted in and have look inside. You can work out where you need to add supports, you will also see where the amp is. It is mounted on its own board inside...The last thing you want to do is put a screw threw something electrically critical. When you have added your supports turn it upside down and you can work out the angle you want the legs to go. Best advice I can offer.
You videos are great and inspired me to get myself a Bermuda from an online auction . I can't wait to give it a go at restoring it . Why has it been three years since your last one if you don't mind me asking .?
I would like to second (or even third this). It's been like having my favourite TV series cancelled. Are you ok? Please do an update video. I recently adopted a restored Bush SRP41 and managed to find an AU41 external amp/speaker unit so now have stereo and love it.
@@MarcusTomatos .... I'm worried Mark - Jon has been completely off the radar for some years now - I'm sure he would have been in touch if he felt able. People keep asking me if I have heard but sadly not a dickie bird ...
My first turntable was a AT6 with a Sonotone 9TA/HC Almost HiFi, one of the better cartridges of it's day, quite low output however, no good for one valvers!! Why no more video's? does anyone know?
Sonotone 9TAHC lower output than the 9TA but both are fine for valve equipment with suitable amplifiers. Agreed no good for single pentode valve amps like this machine. No more public videos due to serious ongoing health issues. Sorry. If I get through all of this nightmare...I will probably come back. Only time will tell.
Similar issues here. I have stopped making video's for the same reason. I do miss making them however. People make such nice comments and I feel guilty!! My video's tend to be about modern amplifiers, mostly because here in New Zealand old stuff does not really exist, plus replacement parts all have to be imported. I have only just found your channel, I do hope your health improves and you return with a few more vids. It looks like we have similar audio experiences. Take care. Michael.
@@GarrardAT6 Jon, Best wishes with your health problems. I stopped doing vids for the same reason but I hope to start up again in 2019. Be Well!! - Craig
@@GarrardAT6 Jon - surprised to see this was only 8 months ago, and sad to hear of your poor health. Hang on in there ol' thing and get well soon, so much has happened, we must catch up when you can...
Hi Neil! Yes It did bring the snow! For a while...haha!!! I think we are due a lot more though...This is a very powerful record!...I'm thumping it out on a Hacker now...Should do the trick...haha!!! I'm sure your Superb little Junior is twitching on its feet and would be on the gallop if it was given legs...Good job Juniors didn't have them...They would be so hard to catch...haha!!! :) As Always...You're comments are most appreciated my friend! Thanks for watching! :)
Blimey you're quick George...haha!!! You know that if you find yourself a tatty old Bermuda Mr Dansette will make you a new cabinet for it...You don't need me to give birth to it...You're more than capable of doing it yourself...Recovering is the hard part...But dropping the parts into a new ready made cabinet is a piece of cake for someone with your ability! Thanks for commenting! :)
Russ Conway sounds so nice on that Baby Dansette! Are you are litteraly giving birth to Dansettes Jon! if ever I get a Bermuda Mr. Dansette will be getting visit from me HaHa! You have mine and the rest of us wetting our trousers now! Jon I need Dansette NOW! haha Take care G
I hope you remembered its scarf and mittens and that you made it some sandwiches for the journey - if not, be warned, I am taking it into care....! Bye bye baby, have a safe journey.
