“If the desire of the big institutions to basically prevent a flight of money into bitcoin…what on earth do people do?”
- Nigel Farage
Nigel Farage is a prominent British broadcaster and former politician. In this interview, in the wake of the controversial closure of Nigel’s bank account that led to the resignation of the CEO of Natwest Bank, we discuss the importance of individual sovereignty and the control of money by the state. We also discuss the growing concern over CBDCs and the critical importance of cash.
- - - -
In June 2023, Nigel Farage had his Coutts UK bank account unexpectedly closed. He firmly believed that this action was a result of political persecution. This sparked a heated debate, with prominent politicians, such as the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt, expressing concerns about the denial of financial services to those who engage in lawful free speech.
The BBC reported in early July that Farage's Coutts account had been shut down because he didn't meet the bank’s minimum investment threshold. However, this version of events was untrue. Farage had obtained a document (through a subject access request to Coutts) revealing that the closure of his accounts was in fact due to his political views not aligning with the bank's values.
The CEO of the NatWest Group, Dame Alison Rose, was the source for the BBC’s initial incorrect story. Natwest, the owner of Coutts, is one of the major UK banks. The British Government bailed out the banking group during the Global Financial Crisis, and they still own 39% of the company. Responding to the mounting pressure, Dame Rose resigned on July 25, 2023.
These unfolding events shed light on the challenges faced by individuals when financial institutions seemingly conflate personal beliefs with the provision of banking services. The situation underscores the importance of upholding freedom of speech and the need for transparency and accountability within the banking sector.

I was shocked to find out this week that I'm a PEP! I'm 61 year old ex IT consultant. Apparently the reason I am a PEP is I think because I stood for the brexit party for Southend West, before Nigel told us to step down because he did a deal with the Tories not to challenge Tory strongholds.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 03:38 🏦 The deplatforming of Nigel Farage by banks highlights the need for a fundamental change in the banking system. 08:55 🌐 The politicization of banks and the financial sector has led to the closure of millions of accounts based on political opinions and social agendas. 17:12 💰 Anti-money laundering rules are being used as an excuse to drive cash out of the economy, causing harm to small businesses and individuals. 21:20 🏦 Everyone should have the right to a bank account, and legislation should be enacted to protect this right. 23:22 💱 The push towards central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) is closer than expected, and there is a need to resist the move towards a Chinese-style social credit system.

He wanted to cut all ties with the EU, our biggest trading market, on our doorstep. A bit like one of the states going independent, but not having a good trade deal with all the other states. It was never going to happen as he wanted it, we left the EU, but have a horrible compromise, that doesn't work for anyone. There was nothing rational about any of it, Farage made immigration a big issue, but we have had much higher immigration since leaving the EU. I'm not a big EU fan, but we at least needed a rational plan when we left. I also can't stand how he pretends to be fighting for the little people, while he only started talking about banking when they closed his elite account, that most of us would never be able to have.

He is more or less single handedly responsible for the fact the the UK is no longer a member of the largest single market and customs union in the World, right on our doorstep, based on a campaign that was a disgraceful pack of lies, in which he said that we could be just like Switzerland. Yet Switzerland, which has never been an EU member, is part of the European Single Market and Customs Union and its citizens have full freedom of moment rights and rights to live and work anywhere within the EU as a result of being part of that Single Market. These are all rights which any Brit, under the age of 50 was born with. And now these rights have all been taken away from them thanks to Farage. and his lies. Such that Brits now have the same rights in the EU as the Chinese. They can only visit and stay in the EU for 90 days out of any 180 days and they have no right to live or work in the EU anymore. Thus, musicians cannot tour within the EU anymore, without huge budgets and legal teams to deal with the necessary bureaucracy, visas and permits, students can no longer backpack and work their way around the EU, or go to get Summer jobs there. And millions of Brits with second homes in the EU can no longer visit them whenever they want and they have to leave after 90 days, unable to return. Brits, in fact, thanks to Farage, have become confined to their often cold dark, damp, grey, gloomy and now, increasingly poorer little island, for 90 days out if every 180, unless they have the money, time and motivation to get on a long haul flight and travel to a destination outside of the EU. What as happened to Brits, thanks to Farage, is like Iowans being cut off from the United States, with no rights to freely trade with, travel to, live and work in any other US state and with them being confined to Iowa for 90 days out of every 180, unless they get on a long haul flight and travel outside of the United States. And what that would do economically to the State of Iowa, is being done, as we speak, to the economy of the United Kingdom, such that it has no prosperous future and is progressively getting poorer and worse. That is why Farage is so hated by so many Brits who were also born as European citizens, in the same way that Iowans were also born as American citizens. On what he says about money and banks of course, he is right, but that does not excuse how he has destroyed the economy of the UK and the rights of its citizens.

The argument against central planing is always posed as the individual knows things at a granular level and makes better decisions based on their knowledge. This is a lie by omission of the counter point that experts and specialists can have something to offer that lay individuals don't have. There was a biolab discovered in California recently that demonstrates the importance of regulation and standards. A free-for-all wild west and modern technology is a recipe for hell on earth. The true problem is the assumption that central planers have any incentive whatsoever to keep the public's interests at heart. They tend to be sociopaths who disdain their fellow humans and this is well born out through history. I trust none of them and recent events have proven this beyond all doubt. How do you tell someone to own bitcoin without telling them to own bitcoin... take their bank account.
@fatrick9001
@fatrick9001 10 месяцев назад
You don't understand the arguments against central planning very well because you just assumed central planners can prevent things like environmental disasters when they have a habit of causing them. What makes you think the government always employs the right experts who make the right decisions? Naive. And it isn't just sociopathy and corruption which has them doing the wrong things.
