They changed him to resemble Aquaman and he got so much screen time because they wanted to spoof Aquaman, which I thought was very funny and effective.

The gills were a good practical effect but it was gross

The gill scene was brilliant writing. It made the character go full circle, being introduced as a arrogant rapist and ending as a scared victim. This sets up great for the next season. They can go anywhere from here with the character.

The gil scene was basically him being put in the shoes of Starlight, he now understands how he made her feel that night. I'm honestly impressed the directors decided to do that, good on 'em.

Since the deep was under developed in the comic he is basically a blank slate for the TV show.

You actually forgot a couple pretty important tidbits. First he's actually the only one of the seven to survive the comic and second he actually ends up on the new superhero team formed at the end of the comic because he actually saved his contact.

The show Deep has powers closer to Aquaman, but looks more like Namor, minus the ears and ankle wings.

The Deep in the show is one of those characters you really don’t want to like but end up liking him anyway

It was cool how when he was talking to the lobster or the dolphin on the show, you never hear the animals answer back, so you don't know if just The Deep can hear them, or if he is legit a crazy person that only thinks he can talk to water dwellers.

When it comes to the dolphin scene in the show, I sort of feel bad for The Deep. He had started to question himself as a real hero and the way he was marketed as a "Savior of the Sea" while at the same time being the spokesperson at a Sea World ripoff. With locked up animals. He wanted to do the right thing, release an innocent animal back into the wild where it belonged. But of course he failed spectacularly at it and thing were worse than if he hadn't even tried to help in the first place.

He had a condom stuck to his helmet when he 'arose' from the Hudson. That's why Frenchie was laughing.

I still like comics, but I don’t know about dolphins anymore.

The music could be a little less overpowering tbh

My favorite Character is Black Noir because he is so adorably awkward in the show yet such a sociopath in the comic book

My favorite? The Female. I always did think of The Deep as a joke. And that scene with the gills was repulsive.

I like they flesh out the heroes in a more grounded way in the show it’s done so well that it doesn’t feel like pointless filler and it’s actually enjoyable to see how these individuals deal with their way of life

Am I the only one who felt the comic book version looks bad ass? I love the goofy helmet

i like butcher. i like the revenge aspect, and the ability and willingness to get his hands dirty. plus i like his leadership skills in the show.

My favorite character is Homelander. More or less it's because of the way everyone perceives him. Everything becomes tense because of the possibility Homelander will find out.

Honestly the boys is by far the best show I’ve seen since daredevil season 1. I recommended it to my friends and they all loved it.

My new favorite character from the boys is now the female actually, just because of how cool and mysterious she is, and her relationship with frenchie is sweet.

The Gil scene was giving him a taste of his own medicine

The Boys, being the only superhero-related show I have watched this year, as nothing got quite my attention like this, I am looking forward to see more superhero-tropes being made fun of from pop-culture. I hope they promise these "superterrorists" to become silver age comicbook supervillains. And also, Black Noir should play more piano 🤙

I like Billy the Butcher bc Karl Urban is god

I know you didn't like the gills but that scene perfectly encapsulates his character arc. He said so himself to Starlight "we all had our fair share of torment when we first got here." In truth, it was just him being tormented. No respect from his team, his only friends are fish, he gets disgraced after wanting to do something that made him feel special, feel important. That something is actually two things, his taking advantage of Starlight, and the dolphin escapade. We then fast forward to his apartment, this woman calls him a freak and forces herself on him. While this is definitely a bit of poetic justice, this made me sympathize with him more than any other character in the series. Imagine putting yourself out there just to be branded by a freak, and the only ones who will respect you don't even have opposable thumbs. I haven't read the comics but I do hope for a redemption arc for him in the next season. He doesn't have to help Hughie and Butcher kill Homelander or anything, I just want him to find some self-respect and fulfillment.

I didn't really care about the Deep in the comics but I was surprised that they changed him a lot for the show. And I can't wait to see Frenchie's origin

So why is it that Stormfront becoming a female isn't a divisive issue, but The Deep becoming a white character is?

I am excited for the developments that occur in the second season and want to see if the deep potentially has a redemption arc. My favorite character is Frenchie.

In the show, The Deep does seem like a representation of Aqua Man from the Super Friends cartoon. He can live in the water and speak to sea life, but doesn't have super strength

Really enjoy these deep dives.

I can see the Deep developing for the better in the show, provided he keep his distance from Starlight. Him reflecting on his actions and working to be a better person would be nice, not just for his own sake. Starlight doesn't have to forgive the Deep, but being able to believe he is no longer a danger to her or others [including himself] could give her some peace of mind.

What I would really like is for Amazon to release the “backstories” of the 7 a brief 1-2 min promo video of how the 7 got their powers

Favorite character is Mother's Milk. He's the only one (in the show that is), to seem to have a level focused head on his shoulders and trying his best to keep the others in line

The Deep is mostly greedy in the comics. The Deep is far worst in the show like if you’re in a anime type commercial, you’ll most likely be a bad guy lol

He's my favorite character in the show, he's such a jerk but is hilarious and I look forward to how he'll continue to develop in future seasons

I like Black Noir. We know practically nothing about him, yet the others are cautious when they're aroundhim. Homelander, who's the equivalent of Superman, has a deferential attitude towards him. That indicates to me that Black Noir maybe more dangerous than Homelander himself.

I love the way they do homelander in the show like at the start he seems nice then you see later how sinister he is

Im not gonna lie i hope for season two he comes back with a dark attitude new dark costume hell give him the deep sea diver helmet just make him look menacing but he still hates himself and probably redeems himself with the final moment

I loved how much more despicable but charming Butcher is in the show

Huey is my favorite character due to the fact that I went through certain experiences very similar to his that made me question everything. It put me through a mental Paradigm Shift. Something Huey battles with constantly throughout the series.

I appreciate the ideas that originated from the comics but the show did so much to contribute to and flesh out the characters. Im really glad they changed so much up

I'm not saying I disagree, but I find it kind of amusing that the shaming of his gills was a blatant comment on the cycle and normalisation of abuse, yet KI and everyone in the comments be like 'Yeah, those gills were super gross'. Just funny, is all.

All the little Deep scenes were great! I loved how he got his own little story

My favorite character personally is probably Hughie I just love his awkwardness and how he interacts with other members of The Boys team

Frenchie is the one character I want to see a breakdown on. In the show he’s awesome. In the comic he’s even more psycho. So I definitely think he’s interesting as all hell

Only found out about The Boys tv series and the comic book series today and I immediately love The Deep's comic book design mainly due to the copper diving helmet which gives him a really cool and unique look :)

It weird how the sort of made The Deep almost a central or at least secondary character in the show, but in the comic he's barely in it let alone talks or does very much

Honestly my favorite in the show is the Frenchie and Christ I can’t wait for season 2 of The Boys

My favourite thing about this show would have to be black noir, im interested to see what they do with the character since its clear that they have a very different arch for him than the one from the comic

The Deep got more screen time than usual because some of the things other characters do is attributed to him. For example there is a major plot point that Deep does in the show that Homelander did in the comic books. But it works better this way because Homelander is a different kind of crazy in the show than he is in the comics. I don't see this show version of Homelander doing what the Homelander in the comics did. It's just not his style in the show. He's still a SOB, just not that kind of SOB. Therefore they put a lot of that SOB stuff on to the Deep, which in turn also made him a bigger part of the story. Which needed to be done because Black Noir only has brief Boba Fett appearances.

I loved The Boys season 1, and thought almost every character felt fully realized and realistic.

Kinda sounds like for the tv adaptation the Deep and A-Train swaped ethnicity's and personalities.

Huey is definitely my favorite member of The Boys. He's the most reluctant member, and has the biggest arch out of all of them. Plus, the guy is fucking brave. He went to save Mother's Milk and Frenchie all by himself, while The Butcher abandoned them to take care of his own agenda.

In the episode of the deep trying to save a dolphine he is seen having a conversation with it until well the untimely end.

He reminds me of a Value Ryan Reynolds and I love it.

I love the show, but I'm disappointed they didn't play Ocean Man at least once, in a scene with The Deep. Also that Dolphin scene was just edgy to be edgy.

I like that in the show he was able to control sharks, that scene was kind of badass.
