just want to say im so grateful and thankful to everyone who watches this podcast. truly. very excited to come back for season 3..
In this podcast, I wanted to talk about something thats kind of been on my mind. which is just how is everyone ELSE experiencing the world ? surely it cant be the same as me? the way we look, or feel, or what we notice all varies on our own personal bubble of our perception. Perception is interesting to me & I dont just want to live in my own forever. I have a thirst to try to understand and sit into the actual perceptions of others lens'. In this podcast I urge you to start thinking about your neighbors words. who they are, what makes them them. and im not talking about identity or what they do or how smart they are. im talking about try to see the world through their eyes. start to try to imagine what that even looks like. To try to know and to try to understand. at least I try my best to.

I think this is what makes movies so special, you get to see and experience other peoples lives and points of views in ways you could never in real life.

This podcast reminded me of this Sylvia Plath quote from her diary. "I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in my life. And I am horribly limited"

Charlotte, your videos are so important to me. you somehow always put these deep topics that rattle on in my own brain into words that make sense. i’ve never had anyone else in my life feel as deeply or care enough about looking at life in a deep way. these videos make me feel uniquely understood :’)

Thank you so much for these podcasts. It’s so great to find a space where someone thinks so deeply and has open conversation about it. As much as such philosophical thinking can make us go crazy sometimes 😂 it’s so damn interesting! It can be hard to find other people who want to entertain these types of ideas in a “normal convo setting”. You really create a vibe that presents these concepts in such a non judgemental/ non elitist way. Thank you ❤

Sharing these conversations definitelymake us go less crazy hahah. I really felt "It can be hard to find other people who want to entertain these types of ideas in a “normal convo setting”. Though as you stated with Charlotte, it's the vibe that opens people up and creating space for them to have these conversations with us. Maybe we too can be the people to help others entertain these ideas.

Being in a relationship of 8+ years has showed me (kind of) what it looks like from someone else’s point of view (specifically a man). Relationships are so beautiful because it forces you to see from the other persons perspective (otherwise it wouldn’t work). I think also being a sister has taught me a lot. I used to be v judgmental of my sister until I decided one day I wanted a good relationship with her and although I couldn’t control her and her decisions I could support her and cheer her on. Tbh from these experiences I’ve realized we’re all experiencing the world the same way. We all want the best deep down but we all have our own morals and values (like u mentioned) guiding us. But overall I think we see the world similarly. Just some carry more hate than others.

Hi Charlotte! I’m a philosophy major and I was really impressed with your grasp of some pretty heavy philosophical concepts. One notion you seem to be puzzled by is the phenomenological predicament. Read Thomas Nagel’s “What is it like to be a bat?” It gives a good synopsis of the innately subjective nature of conscious experience. Also you touch a bit on this concept of “qualia” or the “what it’s like” quality of a thing. What it’s like to taste chocolate, for example. We can describe what it’s like to taste chocolate with as much detail as we want but we will never really embody what it is to taste chocolate. Who’s to say it has a singular taste? Hence, returning to your points on bias and the paradoxically singular yet universal nature of human experience. Enjoy!!

Why are you even a fan of her? You do know that Charlotte literally ditched college all for some social media nonsense that is not even a career and if Charlotte just sat her stupid ass in college and finished her education, her mother would’ve resented her. Plus, what do you even get out of being a social media influencer? Nothing! Charlotte is a complete embarrassment to her family.

Great observations! Yes, others will see the world completely differently. It probably depends on what you are focusing on daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. It builds upon itself over time. Just as a boat that turns slightly -will then end up in a completely different place as it continues its journey.

I struggle with communication a lot and sometimes I noticed I'll use my body when I can't speak and that makes this more incoherent. Nice podcast! That was my take away regarding bias. Also I have become aware that my breakdown in communication leads to anger and violent outbursts which makes me think hmm anger management but since it's tied to a lack of being understood and difficulty communicated is it a therapy issue. Anyway glad to see I'm not the only one! ✌️

Hi. It's very interesting what you're pointing out here. I think of books, movies, even deep conversations with other people; these are, imo, the closest ways to navigate through someone else's mind and to understand (or to try to at least) their perception of life/reality. But one could never understand it fully, cuz even through these means, there would always be a filter which is represented by our own lenses. So being able to enter some else's mind and understand completely their thinking process becomes a superpower that we may never have access to. Nevertheless, we can use this idealistic scenario to improve our understanding of empathy (which is the available version of that superpower) and, of course, practice it.

'Great podcast and it makes a lot of sense to see the point of view of other people, and I like your viewpoint. I was on a bus trip out west on my way to California to a job that I had been contracted for, being a lot younger, and an old Apache got on the bus and sat down by me. He said that he was from a reservation in Globe, Arizona and was visiting his sister. We began talking about the world and all the problems in it. He told me something I always remembered. He said that you build your own world around you. The world you are passing through is mostly a spiritual world and what other people have done. So, you have to build your own to make it real. I always liked this verse in the Bible. John 6:63 “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.” The quickening is a real spiritual thing. The more words of Jesus that you build up and keep in your memory and your heart, the more spiritual you become, and the easier it is to navigate around this spiritual world; sometimes visiting and passing through other people, but not getting stuck in their world. You have to build your own world around you.

Charlotte, yes, it makes sense. I think the question is would we really want to see all it through? To me, it would take things much more difficult. like, as if we don’t have enough shit in our own bubbles to deal with. + would we help those people (i.e. better communication) or be somehow more judgmental. lol who knows

I was listening to a health pod cast and the lady mentioned a Doctor who when he examines people and troubleshoots ailments and tries to find the root causes he always assumes the person has a broken heart. Because after a certain age everyone has a broken heart and that can manifest into illness.

OK so I came back after listening to the whole podcast. Basically she realized other people have their own lives and perspectives. Don't you figure that out when you're like six? Also new drinking game. Every time she says "like" take a shot. Maybe the book will be aimed towards kids because the concept she's describing is literally elementary.
