Im aware your telling a joke, but some people literally hyper respond to certain compounds, theyre body probably makes less because of this so off gear they wont be that crazy but when they take it they shift into something else, its quite literally like adding the last jigsaw piece, depending on how honest with timelines you think ronnie is he would be an example of someone who wasnt actually a hyper responder his genetics were already that good
At that time, the Americans were using growth hormone (undetectable and too expensive for the other athletes) while the other athletes were using steroids. Now growth hormone is affordable by all the sprinters and the playing field has been leveled. As a result, the US dominance in the sprints has diminished. Yes, I am a runner (with a lot of connections to the people in that race) with some inside knowledge....
@@gabrieldaniels6191 It was a substance in an over the counter cold medicine. If you cannot understand the context between a conversation about body changing steroids and a cold medication, there is nothing on a RU-vid conversation that's going to enlighten you. He was not juiced, which is why he was not banned. He gave an explanation and it was accepted. Ben Johnson on the other hand, he tested positive for an anabolic steroid that lowered his 100m tine from 10.2 to 9.79.
what you hear is the jamaican tethers trying to deflect from their homies sordid history of cheating , he wanted to be a first , ambition can bring you down sometimes .
@@sneakypetepatterson-fn4mknope. He represented CANADA. Jamaica has nothing to do with this. He chose to represent CANADA. He isn’t a Jamaican athlete.
The line that got me as he went there is a Canadian and came back Jamaican. Utterly devastating to be discarded all the coaches knew he was doping everybody knew what they were doing and he got expelled from the country. This is a perfect reason of why black folks should never go and try to represent a white people. The media did not say that almost everyone tested positive. I'm hungry right now I just learned this and I remember watching this race
I don't think any other athletes competing in that race were stripped of their medals. The others weren't found out immediately after. Carl Lewis is still listed as the Gold medal winner.
Ayos lang sa pilipino yun, pagkabigay ng Gold Medal, selfie, tapos bawiin niyo na, wala na kaming pake sa Gold Medal na yan, selfie lang ang habol namin sa Medal, inyo na ulit
I remember this at the time, just like Johnson himself said. He was hyped up and promoted as a Canadian leading up to the finals, and then as soon as he tested positive he became Jamaican. Liberties
Regardless of what happened afterwards, I still get pleasure watching the race. Ben's performance, combined with the look on Lewis' face when he knew he lost it. Pure joy 🤗
I'm sure they're are, but with advances in technology it's impossible to tell who. I like Clarence Kennedy's approach, do your own thing and avoid the IOC like the plague.
Carl Lewis face was priceless. “Mama! He cheatin’!!”, cried Carl. “Go tell the proper authorities Carl”, momma exclaimed. “Ok mama”. Carl sprinted to the authorities……
Carl Lewis had contracts for Grand Prix track and field events in Europe these happened during the offseason which is the heaviest workout season in a sprinter's year. Lewis would refuse to attend and literally had it in his contract that there must be absolutely zero drug testing. He grew an inch and a half after 19 years of age. If it wasn't for drugs he'd be as good a sprinter as he was at singing the national anthem
The papers in Canada read as follows - Canadian 🏃♀️ sprinter wins GOLD medal 🏅 - (next day ) - Jamaican-born Canadian gold medal sprinter suspected of steroid use!! Omg ! - On day 3 the newspapers read - Jamaican sprinter guilty of steroid use and stripped of the gold medal for cheating! ( no association to Canada whatsoever) lol
@davidleonard7439 yup - pretty much - Canada - claims it's a multicultural county with the freedom to practice any religion or cultural beliefs! Once the immigrants sign the Citizenship slave agreement, The Corporation of CANADA begins their financial debts obligation to the rest of the crowns conferred corporation and tax the shit out of them, depending on the slave Colony ( province) they get to choose to live under as each 10 Colony (-aka ) province or territory HAS its unique construction of a Constitution! DOES THE DRUG ALSO HELP WITH HIS STUTTER SO THE DISORDER IS CONTROLLED WOULD THEN IS THE REASON FOR HIS DISQUALIFIED DRUG USE SEEMS VERY UNFAIR THE GOLD MEDAL BELONGS TO BEN JOHNSON HE WON ON OLYMPIC DAY IS THE FACT FORGET HIS TIME REMEMBER HIS OLYPIC DREAM IS NOT YOURS
Only two of the eight finalists in that 100m final were clean. They were Robson da Silva of Brasil, and Calvin Smith of the U.S. BTW, the women's 100m final was just as problematic. FloJo must have been quietly asked by the IOC to stop competing in the women's sprint race in exchange for keeping her times and titles. Because her very last competitive 100m sprint race was on October 6th, 1988 in Tokyo, Japan. Shortly after that in 1989, she announced she was "retiring" from sprinting to pursue the 5K, the 10K, and the marathon. Distances over which she could never be competitive. One has to wonder why she walked away from all that money to pursue the 5K, the 10K, and the marathon. It makes no sense.
You do realize these people don't get paid for the Olympics right? Go through history and see how many win the gold and stop competing. Flo-Jo made millions after retirement. No one in their right mind is going to continue to compete for free when she could make millions in endorsements 🤷🏽♀️
@ladytaylor4299 - FloJo never got asked to do any endorsements. Also, FloJo "retired" from sprinting and stated that she was in training for the 5K, the 10K, and the marathon. Why would any sane sprinter train to run those distances?
@@HH-mw4sq She not only did get paid for endorsements she also designed the Indiana pacers uniforms, had a doll in her likeness, opened a boutique in Japan and had multiple clothing lines. When you've already proven you're the best sprinter you can do whatever tf you wanna do after that.
@ladytaylor4299 - please name any large company involved in athletics that hired FloJo as their spokesperson after the Seoul Olympics? You still haven't addressed why she made the rather abrupt decision to train for the middle distances and the marathon.
Recall that Carl Lewis also failed tests but was for some reason allowed to race. Carl Lewis was given favorable treatment and to this day is a complete arsehole about it when it's brought up. He knows he was just as dirty as the rest of them.
As a Canadian, I still remember the elation and then the sadness. Then years later, Ben Johnson did hilarious commercials for Cheetah energy drinks. He has a sense of humour about it all.
Eventually he would have been allowed back into the sport if he was white - but he’s not so let’s continue to remind him of his mistakes by giving him petty cash to humiliate himself
Johnson was the best 60m sprinter of all time easily the greatest starter. He needed juice for the last 40meters everybody else in that starting line up was juicing
He had a tremendous start to races. He reacted faster to the initial shot and his muscles propelled him also faster than other runners. Then after this initial blast, he had lesser speed than its competitors in the 40 final meters.
Johnson should be given back his Olympic medal. They were all juiced including Lewis, that weasel. Shameful. Johnson outworked and out-trained all of them. Fact.
Not true. Prior to the Olympics he did test positive for banned stimulants, but at levels that would not prevent him from competing today. He was cleared for inadvertent usage. I don’t like the guy, but saying he took the same stuff as Johnson is 100% lying.
@@braindonor8753 yeah Russia invented Turinabol (nicknamed tbol) which is a steroid that is often used today for bodybuilding. Dianabol (dbol) is one of the steroids bodybuilders used most in Arnold’s era (you can easily find videos of him talking about this, as they weren’t illegal back then). What dbol does is add massive strength and mass gains, a lot of water weight/retention, and is a “wet” compound as with the water retention your blood pressure, estrogen, etc goes up. Tbol is like an adjusted dbol, snd is a “dry” compound. It has strength gains but not as crazy as dbol, but without any water retention, blood pressure issues, and estrogenic side effects, snd greatly increases endurance. Also bevause it was new, it was difficult to detect as you had to test for pulsating signs of it rather than a consistent showing. Jon jones was caught years ago through this method as well.
I was 12 years old then. I was in a government boarding school. When I got home for the holidays there was a big spread about it in the newspaper. I scrapbooked it during the holidays - still have it today. Ben Johnson was my first childhood hero.
I used to see Ben Johnson at the York University track and field. Man, I felt so sorry for the man. We all know Carl Lewis was also juiced let alone the entire 100 m sprinters. They sewer him cause he's representing Canada 🇨🇦
We stopped and watched this at our high school dance! For one night you made us all feel like champions and proud to be Canadian! Awesome memory. Thank u Ben.
@jim_mai that’s amazing you watched at a school dance! I’m American but loved Ben Johnson & despised fake Carl Lewis. I don’t care what he did, I even watched his return & he’s forever a Champion!
I bet u aren't proud to be Canadian these days. I been to Canada once it was fun, good ppl too. Your government sucks though, but I can't talk because the US is being corrupted as well by corporations and other nafarius billionaires and banks, war and politicians.
@@user-wo7dl6tb2qThanks for that. Johnson really did get a raw deal. Doping has been going on for decades but the masking of it by athletes has just gotten more sophisticated . I think they should restore his medal and time standings. Everyone on that podium was dirty.
To provide you younger people some perspective: This was the most exciting, anticipated sprint race in the pre-Usian Bolt era. EVERYONE were buzzing in the lead up to this race. I am sure up to that time more money had been bet on it than any other track and field event. There was no Dream Team. No Michael Phelps. The late great Flo Jo herself was the opening act to this Main Event!
She passed away at the age of 38. The stated cause of death was epilepsy. (?) It’s a fact that over the top steroid use has major negative effects. Strokes, heart attacks, possible seizures? Not worth it.
@paulinemclean375 - It's pretty sh*tty to accuse an athlete of steroid use who never officially tested positive for using the drug and can not defend her reputation because she died +25 years ago. Also, Flo Jo had a brain abnormality that she was born with that caused her seizures.
@@blackurustrikes2328 If you look at other comments, it seems she did use steroids. Her official cause of death was” epilepsy” as you stated as well. But dying at 38 of epilepsy in this day and age is very rare. Most live well into old age. The fact that steroids are well known to cause strokes, heart attacks and a myriad of other problems would explain her passing so young.
What's Ironic Carl Lewis tested positive three times for banned substances only a month earlier, but instead of him being issued a four year ban, he was allowed to compete in this race...🤔
Because he’s USA track and field athlete and most of them are chitters but USA control WADA and that’s why they can get away with cheating!?That is way I don’t watching Olympic since Mexico 1968 I’m in 70 now.
...are you having dementia...Carl Lewis has so many medals every color and from vary disciplines and competitions that belongs on the athletic throne forever with usain and bubka, and not to forvet the great Jan Zelezny...those are athletes with a big A...god bless them...❤🎉
@@jimpryor99 Carl Lewis tested positive 3 times before the Olympics but the Americans hid the results. After the results came to light, Lewis claimed it was from cold medicine. The other US sprinter who won a medal, Calvin Smith, and the Brazilian Robson Da Silva were the ones who never tested positive.
Lewis was not the only 1988 gold medallist who escaped punishment (had his drug ban overturned by US Olympics because he was their golden boy). Joe DeLoach and Andre Phillips also failed tests at the US trials but travelled to Seoul and won gold medals in the 200m and 400m hurdles respectively.
Bruh!!! You can't be serious! 🙄 I just Googled "Flo Jo" and all the pics I've seen of her was looking tremendously the opposite and super fly. Maybe that pic was taken when the sun 🌇 was going down.....🤷🏾♂️
Knowing that Carl and the other racers took steroids, and he does admit to it, they should either reinstate Johnsons gold medal, or strip the medals altogether from that race.
Rxactly, let em run juiced.. Any athlete testing negative is disqualified. One other change should be installed.. If Im from Hayseedville, Kansas and I want to represent the South Pole BFE, that should be OK.
Didn't get caught. Just spreading rumors. Ben was caught. Nobody to blame but himself. Just pressure to win and become famous. Led to being infamous. Everyone says he's a good guy.
@@randallmadison9910 Yeah really, it's always the same, no matter what... even if someone is cleared there are the mentally deficient assholes out there that will decide _invent some guilt_ for an athlete they don't like.
@@randallmadison9910 Lewis was caught. His ban was overturned before the games. Johnson's tests were conducted in an unsecured area, there were multiple people in the testing room without accreditation, including a friend of Lewis who spent some time sitting beside Johnson while he was drinking to stimulate a urine sample. The substance in Johnson's urine was in a form that means the drug would have to have been taken so recently as to have provided no benefit, and the committee then decided to use a method not approved by the IOC which was not applied to any other athlete at the Olympics to prove his guilt. Johnson was doping for sure, but he wasn't given the same treatment that every other athlete was afforded.
His 9.79 with a finger raised in the air was ahead of its time. Wish we could have seen a juiced up Ben today with the training methods, faster tracks and racing spikes that current sprinters are using.
Most of Bolt's teammates were caught but he wasn't. Protected or clean? As for Johnson and Lewis, that just showed that Canada has to bow before the USA. We all know that Lewis failed several tests before the Olympics, don't we? Anyway, that still remains the greatest 100 metres final.
I saw this race. Carl Lewis was pissed. Ben Johnson ran like a racehorse He smoked everyone, it was incredible. I was too young to know about doping, just who was the fastest
The thing that makes me angry, is they gave Ben another chance, and he ran dirty again!!! He has been practicing again, possibly competing as a Master Athlete, but he better not dare step foot in Toronto as those of us that ran clean back then, still remember the attitude of the Charlie Francis crew, knowing they were dirty but thinking they would never get caught.
@@jesuisdavid1 A stimulant is not the same as a steroid regime. Over the counter supplements have been shown to contain stimulants. You cannot accidentally do a steroid regime, which is what Ben did. Carl's positive test for a stimulant is the same material found in cold medicine.
This race was timeless for several reasons ... Yes, most of the athletes, including Lewis, were juicing. It proved far and away just how much better phd's could improve times. And, it finally erased the squeaky clean image of Lewis that so many had been inundated with for so long.
"I left for Korea as a Canadian but returned Jamaican-born." I bet if every athlete from Jamaica ran for Jamaica, we would dominate every single Track Meet.
I remember analyzing Ben Johnson's start and running technique at the time that had nothing to do with steroids that made him faster than everybody. He got his his feet down twice before anyone else had their first foot up.. He stood up faster and his technique made him the fastest.
Especially when you consider that the IOC refused to award the gold to the 2nd placed athlete after it was taken away from Marion Jones because the 2nd placed athlete had also failed a drugs test at some time.
Ben Johnson is still a hero. He's a nice guy that regularly came to a bar I worked at. Throughout the years of seeing him he's never changed from high school seeing him run around the track throwing a football with to light conversation at the bar. Still a hero of mine despite all the downfalls
Lewis was among the named athletes and Exum's documents revealed that at the 1988 Olympics trials he had three positive results on a combined test for pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, and phenylpropanolamine.
I'll never forget how he shot out of those blocks. When I heard he tester dirty, I wasn't shocked. I've never seen anyone come out of the blocks like that!
That’s not factual. Juice or no juice through Johnson’s earlier career he was always very fast out of the blocks. And then years after his career ended, he would continue to race in 50 yard dashes is in Asia and still was incredibly fast out of the box. What the drug enhancements did for him, was allowed to keep up the pace through the hundred yards. You tube it
Watched that entire Olympics live on TV then. That entire Korean Olympics was dirty. The fans would go crazy in judged events if the Korean wasn't given the gold, judges were terrified. Look up what happened to Roy Jones Jr in that Olympics and the way he was cheated. The judges feared for their lives is why they went against Roy. Years later the Olympic committee overturned it and have him his gold.
I remember being on a rugby league camp and everyone talking about who would win, Johnson or Lewis, it was huge news here in Australia. It always is the 100, but that one was mega. When he popped everyone crapped on him, i feel sorry for him now. The Jones Jr scandal was the most dispicable event in olympic history, he absolutely dominated, named boxer of the tournament, and they screwed him so bad. Think the Koreans bribed the french that they'd vote for their Olympic figure skater if they voted for their boxer, it was so obvious the commentators were having a fit. Boxing is an excellent sport but has grubs ruining it at every level.😊
What I take away from this is that Ben was pained as much by his adopted country of Canada disowning him as opposed to rallying behind him. I am a 60ish year old Canadian and I am ashamed of Canada. The passive-aggressive, "we are so humble and nice" facade has bothered me all my life. I don't and haven't watched Olympics for 30 years because of politics.
They should of condemned his cheating but not denied his citizenship, they were clamoring for him to come and win glory for them, but once he fails they change their tune. As if Canada does not have its share of of home born and grown criminals who are much much worse people.
Everyone doesn't juice only the Americans Russians and Johnson. I remember watching this live and was happy for Johnson and Canada but when he got disqualified I thought what a cheat. 12mths or so later Johnson tried running without drugs and came 4th or 5th against no famous runners.
