I think you forgot that the moro arc took a small detour to Namek your first call could be good. Still think this roster is a bit thin but for the first game that would be impressive. Im sure they will have dlc so I'm imagining that moro arc and beyond may be DLC.
I'd argue the reason why Tenkaichi was so popular is largely due to character quantity. I think they'd cut a lot of other content before they'd touch the roster.
bingo. Especially now where we have FighterZ for unique movesets, Xenoverse for story and roleplay, Tenkaichi is gonna be the huge rosters and (hopefully) huge sets of maps. I mean xenoverse is kinda that too when you include all the characters from it's DLCs but hopefully tenkaichi 4 will be that right out of the box no $10 dlcs needed.
Trust me - they're going to cut the roster. They already did it with Raging Blast, and that game still reused the same animations from the Tenkaichi games. Even RB2 didn't have as many characters as T2 (let alone T3). I'm doubtful they'll be reusing the same old animations for 'T4', as it's been well over a decade since the last time they were used *and* it's a completely different development studio which probably doesn't have access to all those old assets anyway. This means that the game is being made completely from scratch, so I'd expect a really small roster, made up of mainly DBS content. Maybe we'll get a very small selection of DBZ-only content, such as Cell (Perfect form only) and Kid Buu, but it's unlikely we'll even see characters such as Raditz, Nappa, Recoome, Captain Ginyu, Dr. Gero, Android 16, Dabura or Super Buu, and we can definitely say goodbye to characters like Cui, Dodoria, Zarbon, Guldo, Burter, Jeice, all of Frieza's pre-Final Form forms, King Cold, Android 19, Babidi, Evil Buu, and all movie characters (other than probably Broly and maybe Cooler). Come to think of it, I'd expect the roster to only be slightly bigger than FighterZ, whilst swapping out a few characters for more random DBS garbage.
@@DragonBalLegendsAddict This new game will 100% not have a roster as big as T3. Or T2. Or even T1. I hope yall like DBS filler nonsense joke characters - because this will be the game for it.
2023: "the launch roster can't be more then 80 characters bcs the company will make dlc for money" 2024:"you sure about that?" (164 characters in the launch roster)
I do feel Budakai Tenkaichi 3 made it a bit intimidating in terms of roster size. It not only spanned 3 generations of Dragonball, but you had characters from every individual saga. The game even utilizes freiza grunts!
@@UltraEgoMc I miss the budokai 3 and infinite world days. I just miss the simplicity but now it’s not even a fighting game it’s like an open world game lol
@@gibbygibbstein7858 I think the only Super movie that will be DLC is the DBS Superhero one. It makes no sense to make Broly a DLC character even though his movie will be half a decade old by the time the game comes out
@@suematsu7254 I watched it, and I think the video is wrong about a lot. Bro thought that adult Goten and Trunks have a higher chance of getting into the game than Majin Buu
Thats EXACTLY what i was telling people at work. if this has been in dev for more than 3 years. I think its safe to say we gonna get a nice size roster at release.
It might depend on when the rumors started of Budokai Tenkaichi 4 becoming a thing, I heard that being talked about last year and don't know if there was any mention of that in 2021. If it's been in development for a good long time then my assumption would be a late 2024 release next year, if not that then a early 2025 release.
@@noor_xd9473 Well the fact that we haven't got a a fully developed and unique DB game since 2020 may indicate they have been working on this game for a while (DB breakers doesn't count, it reused Xenoverse 2 graphics and assets). Edit: Well I was right, and everyone who disagreed with me is wrong. According to the producer of the game, development began as early as 2018!
MINOR MORO ARC SPOILERS!!!!!!!! Quick note: they actually do go to Namek in the Moro Saga. Vegeta actually has a neat little arc there where he talks about the atrocities he committed there back during the Frieza saga.
Somewhat unrealistic, but I agree lol. Letting my kid brain take over and not caring about how much effort it actually is to make a game with this big a roster... I want everything! The whole shebang!! The what if stories also. Plus some heroes content (just give me the xeno Goku fit and I'm satisfied tbh)
I think our main concern should be the mechanics, the attention of details, the modes and how they can bring all those stuff into this new era while respecting and add upgrades in this new error.
100% that's also what I think is the most important, it's good to have the huge roster but the gameplay, details to attention shows how much the developers cared about this game. I don't want them to JUST update the graphics, have an average size roster and fuck the gameplay up. I need this game to deliver and make people stop modding Tenkaichi 3.
@@Nierez Budokai Tenkaichi was mainly fan service than it was competitive. Yes, competitive BT exists but it's in the same vein as competitive XenoVerse; not very well balanced.
People are gonna harp on the DEVs for the roster. But we have to remind each other that BT3 was more than a huge roster. It had alot of fun and replayable features that have since been deleted from Modern Gaming entirely, and i think we should make sure they give us what we deserve content wise instead of drip feeding up Character DLC packs over the course of several years.
The roster size is something that I've calmed down about since the announcement. Thinking about it more, given the support that other recent DB games have gotten, we could be seeing Budokai Tenkaichi 4 get years of DLC after release. So even if we get a roster that is comparable or smaller than OG BT, by the time they wrap up shelf life, we could be looking at a roster even bigger than BT3.
I think that this really puts into perspective how much work it takes to make something like this. With starting everything from scratch to create characters that look better than they ever have before is going to be a ton of work so it will be shocking if we even get more characters than tenkaichi 1. Either way, I am really excited for tenkaichi 4, easily my most hype thing of the year
they should have done this instead of releasing mid dbz games like xenoverse the past years. no one plays those games. they should just start the roster like Fighterz with Super characters
How??? This guy is not a game dev, don’t let his childish impressions into your head. To create these character models is hard work but the devs have passion, not this guy don’t be fooled they can and will have every character in this game!
@@Iava The irony calling his reasonable take a "childish impression" and then giving your own childish impression. Passion doesn't create time. You seriously think just because the devs are passionate enough they can create 100+ high quality character models from scratch in a limited amount of time? Him cutting goten and and kid trunks is an immediate red flag the game wouldnt honestly feel the same if you just have a few og charachters and then have charachters like cell max manga charachters goku black etc
The entire premise of this video is bad because he assumes that manga characters would be in the game (which they wont since leakers have revealed that DBS 2 has not even started production yet, they have been working on Daima and Superhero since 2020).
I think with the technology we have you’re underestimating the roster. I’d also love to see a dlc potential roster cause we know they’re gonna have one
I think around 80 is right again it's not like they're ripping assets from tenkaichi 3 and all they have to do is copy and paste some stuff and make some unique content they're doing this all from scratch alongside characters theres also gonna be modes cutscenes maps all of that alongside the fact that they know they can get away with DLC means putting in 80-100 is the best we'll get think about dragonball fighters that launched with under 30 characters or xenoverse 1 which I believe had 50 -60 on launch which is the last time we had a more traditional dragonball arena fighter made from scratch (xeno 2 got to port a lot of xeno 1 assets)
@@Syrus_Priest that’s sounds appropriate. I’m thinking of it from a business perspective (which we all know by now DB don’t really think like that) where more is better constantly try and push constant
@@Syrus_Priest I just don’t think that make sense tbh 80 to 109 characters isn’t really enough I think it would be much easier to just copy and paste already made models of the characters because no way can an 80 character dbz game hit all the right marks
Even if it is possible I can't imagine how much space this game would take for not just characters but the story from dragon ball all the way to super. The environments , music , moveset variants, plus the dlc will make this a big game
Found it kinda odd that you don't mention when cutting from Ur roster that the manga characters would be the first to go, and aren't likely to get into the game in the first place. Moro, Gas, Granola are very unlikely, imo.
@@electroshock1021: There's nothing to confirm that the anime would adapt those arcs of the manga. With the existence of the Superhero movie, it should be more likely for the anime to continue moving forward in the timeline and introducing brand new material of its own.

For sure Molo, Gas, Granolah and UE Vegeta will not be in the main roster, same for Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo (maybe with an SuperHero DLC). But still the people cannot accept this
Do remember how many of the characters of Tenkaichi 3 were copies of one another The saiyans were all mostly the same with slight visual changes, even having the same attacks and transformation into the oozaru Also as a lot of attacks aren't unique per se, being able to slap Kamehameha or a destructo disk on half of your roster makes it much easier to build
yeah I dont think people will find too much trouble if some non important characters have the 'blast volley' attack or the 'high speed rush' as their moveset lol
As far as legacy characters go, it needs to be characters people will actually play. So a Goku/Vegeta/Gohan that can turn super saiyan as well as his super forms and the main villains of each part. Relative nobodies like 17 or Burter need not apply.
You say that but almost every special attack in BT3 has a different animation, even most of those who are copied have different timings or colors. Even the kamehameha has different versions. Even if some attacks were copied, you can't say that it was easy to make. Every rush has a different animation except some exceptions like ssj4 vegeta who has the same rush as cell arc super vegeta. And if you actually play the game seriously and look at the move list, you'll notice that every character isn't the same.
No oddense Globku, but I'm glaed that this video is complete and utter garbage since its confirmed that the roster is gonna be way bigger than Tenkaiichi 3. Which means anyone out side of some ectra characters can get in now

No Vegeta Z? That’s probably the only head scratcher I have about your hypothetical roster. Otherwise, I definitely see your point about how this will need to be much smaller than the previous games, and understand your reasoning for the characters included and excluded.
My only head-scratcher is why assume we're getting characters cut in the first place? The game's website specifies the series is known for it's massive roster, it's mostly why it became so popular in the first place.
@@Going4Broke2528 80 characters is still a massive roster though. And unlike Storm Connections where they’ve confirmed they’re using the same old models, BT4 is obviously using brand new models, so any and every returning character needs to be remade from scratch. That takes a lot of time, money and man-power. Cutting things is the only way they can both make this game *and* make a reasonable profit off of it.
@@GurrenPrime In terms of time, they've definitely been working on this for a long time already. It's not like they just started development on it and released a trailer, that's highly unrealistic. And in terms of budget and man-power, it's Bandai Namco, they can spare it realistically, since so many people are hyped about it, therefore it's reasonable to expect high sales numbers. I am tired of normalizing less-than-quality games on release because of dlc potential and unwillingness by developers to attribute the time and effort required to make good games. If the game is good, it will make them money. It's Dragon ball, for god's sake. If it was some small anime series with a niche audience, it'd be unrealistic to expect high numbers, but it's one of the 3 biggest anime/manga series of all time. It will sell enough to make well beyond what they invest.
I always thought the extra forms where super easy for game makers due to many just being hair and color changes. Vegito/Vegetto and Gogeta has the same face, and so on. But cloning the same model over and over start to take up a lot of space after a while.
I don't think making the characters in and of itself isn't super difficult considering how similar all the move sets were, I definitely think it's more of a storage issue
They did this on the PS2, how could it take up that much more space? You telling me a decade and a half of technological advancements and making more character models would be hard? They'll get lazy and under deliver because they are greedy. Just you wait for the Lackluster roster and another quick cash grab from people's nostalgia
Games are nowadays like 50 to 100gb and if I can get all the chars from db to db super including movies I am happy to use that space on my ps5. Sadly I think they will go with dlc route since they are in it for money and know full well people will play this game whenever it has 20,50 or 100 chars. Man,capitalism sucks ass.
You should keep in mind that the devs can reuse a lot of the character models & movesets, for an example: when they make a base goku, Ssj, ssj2, ssj3 etc. they can use that to make multiple versions of goku ( like tenkaichi 3 had goku beginning, mid, and end) with little to no extra cost, and all those gokus will have similar moves like kamehamehas, spirit bombs etc, so they can easily inflate the roaster roster to 200-300 characters l if they do this with vegeta, Gohan, etc. that’s how tenkaichi 3 had that many characters (not saying it’s easy or that it’s a bad thing, but this they’ll get 200 characters with a 100 character models)
moves were generally th same. basic attack chains were unique tho. so like if you were using ssj goku and went to ssj3 , hed have 1 or 2 more attacks in his chain and his triangle moves would be diff too.
@@Omnivoid22 Yes but you can use simiralities to have a larger roaster. In example Dyspo and Burter can have a similar attack pattern, they go for full speed after all and nobody will critic them for doing this. Also in the Anime/Manga they recicle things. Just twist some stats, add different details and work done. Duplicating is not bad, until you don't make every character feel the same!
@@claudiopalana yep but then again they also do this with legends and be super lazy af cause thats just easy for them lol. but yea most of them going to have like full power energy wave or like high speed rush lol. and wonder if they add appule
if this is here to replace somehow xenoverse 3 then absolutely. if this game will be focused a little bit to maintain a competitive scene (as we could suppose since it was showed in a tournament) then probably not that much re-using, and definitely not 80 characters. more so around 50 if we are lucky. jump force had 40 at launch, and i doubt they'll keep the same route as that game, so im guessing it'll be hugely inspired in CC2 games
They are the ones who decided to make a new Tenkaichi... so THEY have decided to follow a certain standart. So THEY should be the ones to be blamed should the roster suck, NOT the fans. If making Tenkaichi 4 is an impossible task, then they should have NEVER started it.
That’s why the prob won’t call it 4. So if you they look at it as 4 then that’s just tough. Shit I held tournaments in my basement for BT3 but even I know it doesn’t matter how we feel, it doesn’t mean it’s reasonable.
@@ryanstarr2389 The stigma will still be there no matter what. Because even calling it anything but Tenkaichi 4, won't shield the game from a rightful sheetstorm if it somehow has less characters than Tenkaichi 1 itself. If they can't be bothered to preserve the charme of the saga, and what made it so well received, then they shouldn't have tampered with it to begin with.
I mean it depends on when they started working on all the characters. We got the trailer out of the blue and dont know when development began. They might have been working on this for a way longer time than we think so im kinda optimistic in that regard. Cuz a budokai tenkaichi isnt complete without almost all characters from every db franchise
Gonna be very interesting seeing how they update the battle mechanics considering the game will naturally have a strong online focus. I've seen people wish for the return of unbalanced characters like the old games, but then the online will just be a sea of the strongest characters like the fusions and UI/Ego.
y eah but its gonna be skill based for sure. I mean think about it. Only real thing is remmber how if use youd kid gohan vs someone way more powerful than him. That person wouldnt flinch . Only flinching when the lesser char was at max power. That mechanic was not bad. broly was a pain tho. OR like base teen gohan. wouldnt make broly flinch until he went ss2. Even ss1 broly wouldnt flinch.
That's part of the charm like it was really fun to see how useless characters like Hercule and Trunks were against a giant freaking monkey, not that it was impossible to beat them though, it just meant that you'll have to use am actual strategy
Tbh its not harder than it was back then. Its just easier to replicate back then's content because of our new tech. But back than it was just as hard as now for them to do ps2 graphics and 150 characters as it is for us to do ps5 graphics and 150 characters. And bandai is a huge development company they had the time and the money to do this.
I'm a simple Dragon Ball fan. If the game slaps, I will buy all the characters. They can have 9 season passes over 10 years, and if the game remains good I'll have them all. The game can end up being 500 characters strong and a total of £200 of my hard-earned money, and it will in no way dissuade me. What is critical, is that the game is good. And it looks really good.
people always hated on this, but I'd rather have every single character with a lot of reused move sets, than just 30 characters with all unique animations, the other games always missed that one character you wanted to use
the thing is... creating Yamcha for example is harder than creating SSJ Goku or transformations for other characters excluding ozarun and big forms that change the character modle a lot so i think we could get aroun 100 110 characters and 40 or 50 in DLC packs
The fact they ended up adding at least 182 base roster and now we have 20+ coming in dlc…this is awesome and bc of this, the video technically didn’t age well which is a HUGE W
Dude this is such a well researched and thought out video and I appreciate that. I hyped as much as the next guy but we need to keep expectations in check
This is a really good video with a realistic outlook on the game release where most of the characters will probably be added over time using DLC but i'm still going to cope HARD that the base game has at least 200 characters
I have to say that there are stuff that many people don't take into account with this Roster Prediction you made, first of all, I doubt they'll separate the Characters by Eras like Tenkaichi 3 did (Like Early, Mid and End and in the case of this roster, Goku and Frieza (DBS)) this was done back in the day because they nedded the Gokus with Different Moveset depending of the Era, the way Raging Blast solved this was by making the Moveset Customizable and the Characters aren't stuck to just 2 Super Attacks. Cases like Vegeta (Scouter) and Trunks (Armor) which stayed on the Raging Blast transition are due to Characterization (and Moveset) and Fighting Style (Scouter is still Evil while Trunks Armor doesn't have the Sword) Another thing is that unlike Budokai and XVs, Kaioken isn't treated as an Transformation (in Tenkaichi's Context, a different Character), but is rather an Skill that boosts your stats (and obviously makes you red) Also, while I get that the main selling point would be the DBSuper content, I highly doubt they'll severly compromise the Z roster because of it, The Ginyu Force are staples of Dragon Ball and most of hasn't missed an single one Dragon Ball game (Well, at least Ginyu hasn't) and GT and Movie content has to at least be present in some way (Minimum Goku, Vegeta and Gogeta SS4 and Omega Shenron for GT and Bardock and Broly for Movies) and whatever or not they'll put manga content is if the Anime has been 100% Confirmed to Return (Which hasn't) and even then, the only DBSuper stuff that XV2 had on Release was just Hit (and Goku Black and Trunks (DBS) as preorder bonus, and that was when the Goku Black Saga just barely started)
When your Twitter poll results showed that people were expecting a roster of over 200 characters, it showed me that the fans don't really know how game development works. The reason why the Tenkaichi 3 had such a large roster is because it used the same engine from the previous Tenkaichi games, meaning they were able to just port over the older characters and focus their development time making new characters. However, this is a brand new Tenkaichi game being made by scratch, meaning they have to make every character from the ground up. And making over 200 characters from scratch is practically impossible. So I think this is a pretty fair roster you made. A shame you had to cut like all of the movie characters, but I guess there is always DLC.
They could make 200 characters from scratch. It would just take longer is all and I'd rather have a delayed game that's eventually good at release than a game that's rushed out and trash at release.
I believe after the game releases for 6-7 years it will be the same roster that you had in mind without removing any characters and with bardock and all the z movies character with a dragon ball story and characters
To be fair, I do believe that they know that most of their popularity is from their huge rosters, so I'm sure they're gonna work their asses off, and honestly, I don't mind waiting. And to be fair, XV2 Has 90 CHARACTERS counting dlc but without counting costume/version changes, so yea, I have faith.
@@kenzo5096 Most characters in XV2 don't transform, actually. And a majority of the in-game Awokens belong exclusively to CACs, a majority of which completely change your moveset.
I don’t think they’re gonna have the Moro and Granolah Arc in the game. I would take it they probably put Goku on Namek just as a placeholder map, but if you’re saying that the Super Hero movie is too soon and may become a DLC, I highly doubt we’ll get the Moro and Granolah Arc who haven’t even aired yet. Those actually seem more likely to be dlc
I also think we’re going to get a base roster of around 100 character or so. Then the rest will come later on as DLC (or seasons). I have a feeling they might leave out “lesser” characters such as Pilaf, Yaijarobi, Android #19 etc. Or include them later on. What do guys think? Edit: I actually meant Android #9 but typed #19 for some reason
I think in this day and age we don’t need 6 slots for one goku. What we should be able to do is choose move sets and transformations to make it slightly easier
Idk about frost, also keflas green hair form is technically just called ssj2 since only half of her is legendary so it doesn't have the same properties aside from a power boost and the green hair. Edit: yep, I love cabba and the lesbians but we'll be fine with just kefla tbh Edit 2: I agree with all the cuts so far but cutting ALL of superhero is unhinged, I think at the minimum beast and Orange should be in there
The problem with this video is that you included manga characters, who likely won't be in this game. When you remove the manga characters, you free up an extra 15 character slots.
I’m fine with anything as long as there’s a variety of characters, moves/ fighting styles and maps. Yeah it’ll suck that we can’t or won’t get some characters but I’m fine if it’s not a huge roster. If they add characters from BT3 then damn this game will be amazing but as well as I feel not a lot of those characters will even be touched that much
they have had years to prepare for the game so id say that most characters if not all either Z or Super (anime/movie) cast are already made. If they want to make this games story be absolutely crazy id figure they will keep all the super character u cut from Super. I think what they will also do is bring back costumes, so you'd assume that they would just make the Super Hero movie Goten and Trunks a classic skin replacing their outfits, rather then making all characters. GT is a bag of worms I'm gonna open in this comment so strap in, this will be long. If DB BT4 or from what I've heard from some places DB Super BT has really not been worked on even before the announcement then I agree that it will be coming out with your roster (maybe minus pride troopers, love em but i just don't think they would add them over like a Super Dragon Ball Heroes character DLC) IF they want this game to be the ultimate Budokai game then they should make this up to date with super, including movies and the show of course. if they were to make it the ultimate Budokai game they should add a lot of things that fans would want and would love to have and I know a lot of people will agree with there. They should add every character up to date with at least the anime maybe not the manga since to be honest, most Dragon Ball fans only watch the anime and play the games, I would hate to see them leave out characters who were honestly great additions and fresh changes to the Super story (Frost, Cabba, Cell Max ECT) Another thing they should add is a PC (or console) Workshop that's built in to the game. Lets so hypothetically they DO leave out some characters and their fan favorites, or some LOVES the idea Raditz and SSGSS, then a workshop or character customization would be the best option for that. That could work in a similar way to YOMI Hustle where if you play online, the workshop characters that 2 people share can be played, but if only one person has the character it cant be used. And of course another feature id love (and everyone else would love) is if they add back the What if scenarios but in a different way. What I would like to see it as personally is similar to the way Detroit Become Humans act selection works. When u click on a level you already beat what happens would be a thing that branches out as a sideways Y would show up. The route you took will have images showing what happens on the top of the sideways why, but the bottom (other line) would have blank boxes, if you do a certain condition or a certain thing happens you will be able to get an alternate ending. If you got the what if ending it wouldn't effect the next level (or saga depending on what level you do it on) I see it as, when u beat it a congrats screen pops up that says something like "You completed the level with a What If scenario, try getting the correct ending to progress further" I think it could be a fun idea to do. Another big thing i want to get into that I should have sooner was DLC. What could hypothetically be the DLC besides other arcs that come out as the Dragon Ball series goes on. Idea 1: A gods of destruction pack. Here me out, people who aren't as big into the Dragon Ball story only know Beerus and maybe know Cjampa. But what about the other ones? This pack could include all the other gods of destruction and maybe even their angels, but not as other characters, they could be costumes for Beerus and Whis. Idea 2: Lets say you eventually load into a battle enough times and the announcer talks and its getting boring and you wanna spice it up, an announcers DLC pack. Also 5 dollars it will replace the announcer with every character in the game, to change it you would go to, settings - audio - announcer audio - announcer voice, and from there you could change the announcer. Idea 3/4/ and forward: id like to see these ones but kind of the same, Super Dragon ball heros DLC story and characters, Dragon Ball Xenoverse DLC Story and characters and of course future arcs added in. What makes a game special is how fast it can bore you, and from past experience and Dragon Ball games, DLC can really spice some things up, im sorry tired and my hands hurt so bad, im gonna go pass out in bed now
As a programmer when you started listing the characters and how many characters they actually are I just started thinking of file sizes and arrays lol and .replace and etc. The programmers there are going to have a ton of work.
As a programmer, I was viewing it as the opposite. "Those aren't separate characters, just have the model swap hair." lots of games already do that. Most of the forms have the same, or similar move sets as well, it's just stats changing behind the scenes. This is a greatly overinflated "character" count.
@@shipool I didn't say they were all different characters hence the logic of ".replace" it's still a lot of work and the QA process will be a lot. Also the models are different I even though Goku as a base character is the same replacing the assets is not an issue but as you scale up it will, I'm not sure if you worked on production games before but you will be surprised how a game at this scale work.
