I feel like the flat earther mom isn't a fan of chores and rules for her kids bc she still grieves the loss of her child and wants to see her other children happy so she doesn't like being strict. But that's why her house doesn't look too clean. The other woman is too strict and emotionless. A mixture of both parenting styles would be best.

It’s common to see in African homes, the parents not showing any affection. It is really sad and can have some life long repercussions. We never even say things like “I love you”. In my home, the only time we really express our feelings is when we fight and it’s just really unhealthy and toxic. I always say to myself that I can’t wait to graduate and leave. I can’t stand it because it mentally and physically drains me. I think it’s just the way I have been brought up. Whenever I fought with any of my siblings, the situation is never resolved. My mum just tells us to stop arguing or separate us until we calm down. We don’t speak and the next day we all kind of act like nothing happened. As a result, I don’t talk or go anywhere near one of my brothers. I try to stay out of his way as much as possible because we just really hate each other. My mum is fine with us not talking. We fought so bad that she just said to me to just never speak to him. So I said okay and I think for the sake of everyone else in the house, it was a good decision. My parents are immigrants from Somalia and to them, feeding me, access to education and having a roof over my head is probably their way of saying that I have given you everything in life that you need to be successful so it would be selfish of me to complain. I feel emotionally broken and it has affected my relationship with other people such as my friends. If I argue with one of my friends, I don’t know how to control myself emotionally and make my point at the same time. Or even any debate or simple conversation, I just struggle. There’s definitely some resentment in my family towards each other but we don’t ever express our feelings unless we’re angry. It’s sad but it’s my reality. The moral of my story is that if I ever choose to become a mum, I will always try my best to show affection as well disciplining them. Kids NEED to be shown love and they NEED to know that they are loved. I didn’t know that I would end up writing all this but this just feels like a place where I can say what I can to get things of my chest. Like a weight has been lifted off my shoulder.

She's clearly traumatized from what she went through and is now trying to be the best mom she can be. she clearly loves her children and just wants other moms to just focus on and love their children because she knows what those moms will think if they lose their children. I think people are confusing hugs and kisses with love. Hugs and kisses do not necessarily show love. They can show affection but love is about more than what you do outwardly. Taking care of your kids, sacrificing for them, setting them on a right path, teaching them to respect themselves and others...these are also signs of love. Think of the 5 Love Languages book, everyone displays and receives love differently. One day your parents will be gone and the hugs and kisses will cease, but what they instill in you is what goes on forever. I grew up in a household where hugs and kisses were not my parents primary love language. But, I never grew up thinking I was unloved. I knew they loved me based on every single sacrifice they made so I could have a much better and fruitful life than they had. Remember, a stranger can also hug and kiss you, it doesn’t mean they love you.

When the lady said "I'm so sorry to hear that", about the daughter dying of a brain tumor, she did not sound genuine at all in my opinion. Anyone else think so or is it just me? It was just her tone of voice and the way she said it. It just didn't sound genuine.

I have two sons 18 and 21 and I hAve two daughters 17 and 19 and I hug, kiss , squeeze and express my love to and for them every chance I get. And, we give long strong hugs till you feel our energy transfer. My parents were NOT affectionate and so, you can understand why physically loving on your children is important.

I have 2 females I call mom. My birth mom told me she didn’t like me when I first met her at the age of 10. She continued to show me she didn’t like me until I stopped dealing with her at all when I was 14. My stepmom has physical been in the house. She has not a single affectionate cell in her body. I have never had a hug a kiss or anything from her. I don’t remember ever seeing any kind of affection between her and my dad. They are both cold people. I would take a flat earth believing affectionate mom any day. She can believe that as long as I can get some of that motherly love I hear people talk about. I lost my best friend on October 14 of this month to AML (leukemia). I felt that woman's pain when she got emotional about how the other mother doesn't do love and affection. I can't imagine what it's like to lose a child to cancer. But knowing what its like to lose a best friend and sister at heart, I felt this and immediately was brought to tears. I hope the other mother learns how to be affectionate and loving for her childrens sake. You never know what you have until it's gone.
