I compare the cost and performance of the Mustang EcoBoost to the Mustang GT and give you my thoughts on why perhaps the EcoBoost is the best Musang to buy right now. If you like making your car fast on a budget the EcoBoost Mustang has to be at the top of your list. What to do thing about a 4-cylinder Mustang?

Just sold my 2018 mustang ecoboost after 4 years and bought a 2017 GT. Enjoyed the ecoboost and feels punchy on the daily drive. It didn’t really excite me though. The GT on the other hand, everytime I start it up with the Borla exhaust I added, I can’t help but smile. GT is worth it just for the noise of that engine. Both awesome cars though.

The key to getting big horsepower with little invested in mods is to buy a car with a power adder from the factory. A tune alone with increase horsepower and torque by 75 or more. Change the downpipe and intercooler and the car is quicker. A friend of mine has an Ecoboost Mustang with drag radials, a tune, upgraded intercooler, and downpipe and the car runs mid 12s with the stock turbo. The total cost was only about $3,500. Add larger fuel injectors and put the car on E-85, it is a high 11, low 12 second car. Replace the turbo with a larger one, the car is capable of putting down 550 horsepower and over 500 foot pounds of torque. All these mods combined cost less than $10 k and will easily take a Mustang GT to Gapplebees. The toughest thing is getting past the shit*y exhaust note of the 4 cylinder Ecoboost. I own a 4600 pound Taurus SHO with the 3.5 Eocboost and for about $1100 I turned a high 13 second car to a legitimate 12 second car. All I did was get a canned tune and added water/methanol. I don't need tires because it is AWD. If I upgraded the downpipe, intercooler, fuel injectors, and the turbos, it would run deep into the 11s. I like all cars. However, the Mopar tax to improve performance is brutal.

Nice video, Bro. The EcoBoost is a good balance between performance and practicality. Not everyone is going to be tracking their car. It's a fine daily driver and looks just as good as the GT. I like the bigger NA V8 because big NA engines tend to hold up over time better than small Turbo engines.

Yeah those eco boost roll out. Even the older 12-14 v6 with a turbo will put a bus length on many cars. I had a lot of fun in my wife’s. Will admit I’m not fond of a 4 cylinder but it has potential. Got to give credit to ford for making performance cars in lower trims just wish they continued the v6 or did an inline like the old barra. Then I would totally be in. Awesome video, Racer X! That's insane for an Eco boost to make 700hp! The thing is, making a little motor perform like a larger one means it's going to wear out faster. I suppose if a consumer is going to be buying vehicles frequently, this should not be much of an issue, however people who want to keep them for a while... long term reliability could pose a problem. I'd personally stay with the 5.0.

The EcoBoost is used in the Ford GT street and race car including the newly introduced Ford MK IV with over 800 horsepower. Just like all built engines increasing horsepower whether 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder or a V8. Internal Performance upgrades when you're adding big horsepower. The 2.7 EcoBoost HPP starts with 330 horsepower and 350 Ft Lbs of torque. This engine is similar to the RS Ecoboost used in the Rally RS Focus used in Europe for Rally racing. 0-60 4.9 seconds.

When you're making 700 RWHP, the motor won't last as long. However, there are people that make 550 RWHP and over 500-foot pounds of torque and can do it relatively safely. The internals are forged from the factory and since it comes from the factory with a turbo, you don't have to worry about ring end gap and ring lands. Since the drivetrain other than the engine is the same as a Mustang GT, you don't have to do much in the way of supporting mods. If you want a transbrake, all it takes is an adjustment in the tune. The thing with the turbos is that maximum torque is at low RPM. That means you can launch the car in boost. The throttle response is immediate. The car feels real punchy and gets out of the hole quickly. It is possible to have a car that runs in the high10s and is relatively reliable for less than the cost of a Mustang GT, Camaro SS, or Scat Pack. The Ecoboost Mustang is more technologically advanced than its naturally aspirated counterparts and one can take advantage of that.

Excellent review RacerX. The true sleeper Mustangs. The regular EcoBoost and the Mustang HPP EcoBoost with 330 horsepower and 350 Ft Lbs of torque. 0-60 under 5 seconds With the lighter engine. Less weight especially on the nose improving handling. The EcoBoost engines are used in the Ford GT Super Car and the just introduced the 3.5 EcoBoost Ford MK IV Race only super car with over 800 horsepower. Unfortunately Ford doesn't really promote the HPP Mustang that uses a version of the European Focus RS rally engine. Available in manual or 10-speed automatic. Handling package option. HPP badging and hood stripes. It's a fantastic Mustang that looks great. Whether the standard Mustang EcoBoost or the HPP EcoBoost. It's s lot of car for the money with low mileage, Ford certified pre-owned HPP at great prices. If you test drive the HPP with the handling package, quad exhaust tips. Other than the beautiful Coyote exhaust note. This Mustang still sound great with it's special exhaust system and the performance is solid. Thanks again for your review.

I make a very decent amount of money and could have easily had a GT but at the end of the day everyone has one these days and I wanted something different. Also a good reason I went with the EcoBoost is gas mileage. But man I put a intercooler, intake, and a tune and it really woke it up. Can’t wait to put more mods on it I want to be GT fast. Nothing more embarrassing for a scat pack to get beat by a 4 banger 😎.

Where did you get your information. The current EcoBoost is a work horse and the EcoBoost HPP is 330 horsepower. An Ecoboost powers the Ford GT including the race car and the newly introduced Ford MK IV race car producing over 800 horsepower. The EcoBoost were used in Ford LMP race cars and in the recent Baja 1000 powered stock Ranger Raptor so show how strong the Stock Ranger Raptor is using an EcoBoost engine. The entry wasn't to win in a stock Ranger versus race prepared vehicles. It was an endurance test. Regarding the HPP EcoBoost Mustang. The lighter engine takes weight off the Mustang's nose giving the HPP great handling and performance. Test drive an Mustang HPP. I was extremely surprised and pleased. I think Ford made a genius move to make the 2.3 Liter Ecoboost the base engine. This means that ALL S550 Mustangs are legit performance cars no matter what drivetrain option is chosen. Especially since you can get PP1 and PP2 performance packages in Ecoboost cars. It made both the bean counters and the gearheads at Ford equally happy. For the bean counters it has economy of scale since the Ecoboost is used in multitude of Ford vehicles from full size trucks to Focus hatchbacks(worldwide). For the gearheads it comes already with ton of aftermarket support way more than good but underappreciated Cyclone V6 engines. If you are a young enthusiast, in your 20's, first time car buyer the you get a break on your insurance rates, as well as the price and less chance of a dealer mark up than the GT, you have way more usable room in the Mustang than you would with the GT86/BRZ twins for roughly the same price and with a turbo upgrade and tune you would making GT350 hp and tq. Sweet Car. Thanks Ford! I love my Baby, Thee XL 5. Huge Col. Steve Zodiac Fan. Thus, my Rocket is aptly named Thee XL 5! Fun Channel and congratulations!

I hear the eco boost has problems. I know the 5.0 is well known and is known to be solid. It also sounds amazing. I would get the eco boost if I felt it would be reliable. The GT is Atlas blue not Kona blue. Completely different colors.

Mod for mod that EcoBoost isn't going to catch the GT even with a Scat Pack pushing it either way I'll keep my Challenger ta with its 4300 lb of smiles per mile

It’s actually cheap to mod a ecoboost you can spend 3k in mods and run 11s in the 1/4

So in other words RacerX don't race my Scat Pack against a ecoboost if he wants to run you. 🤔 Lightweight and maybe 700hp. ! 😬 I still have to run him. 😁👍 Good video my Friend!

Love my old man rental car 2020 ecoboost mustang convertible! I knew it'd be less beat up being the stock ecoboost convertible. People crank on rentals sure but they'd want to beat up the v8 more right? Lol I've got the roush intake, high flow cvf cat, Flowmaster scavenger y-pipe and outlaw exhaust (very loud) 91 octane tune. Waiting on a cvfab race Intercooler. I should be pushing close to 375whp. Probably won't go with the nx2 Turbo but if I'm really chasing that 4xxHP I might 🤣 Kept the exterior stock so it's a little bit of a sleeper 😉

It's a great alternative to a basic sedan with no Soul. A great daily driver for the masses IMO. And a huge amount of power to those remembering the cars of the 70s and 80s. But my preference to gain power is to buy factory with a warranty. Base Corvette is untouchable. But not affordable. I have a 15 SRT 6spd. But the Camaro base with the 6.2 is the absolute car on a budget and a nasty sleeper.

Such a hard decision for me, I can barely afford a base GT but I can comfortably afford an ecoboost with extra features. I drive an 08 v6 so even an ecoboost is a hell of an upgrade for me, plus that little 4 banger can beat a whole lot of older GTs.

I used to own an ecoboost mustang. It has its advantages over a GT depending on what you want out of an automobile. It's a smooth, quiet cruiser, it's light and nimble, and it can be made to be very torquey. Jay Leno is quoted as saying he loved the thing. You can operate it throughout its entire power band on the street.

Unless you completely go through the engine on the Eco boost by installing a better head gasket and ARP studs they won't last very long. I bet we have at least 6-8 of them waiting on long blocks. They get coolant intrusion because the head lifts up on a tuner that gives it more boost then stock. The GT is way better

Ecoboost are fantastic if you want a Mustang as a daily. However, it’s already boosted out of the box. This video doesn’t go in depth on what major Stage 3 mods that had to be done for it to make 700 HP. As many of the modded community knows, unfortunately when you’re at this level of mods, the car’s reliability is not good. Constant maintenance and tuning is required. If that’s something you are okay with, than more power to you. But if you’re looking to mod while maintaining a closer to standard maintenance intervals, go with the V8.

Im a huge fan of the ecoboost engine, coming from a focus ST. Theres just something about the ecoboost sound coming out out of a mustang that doesnt sit right with me. That sound comes from a ❤❤ FOCUS ❤❤. Not a mustang. Just my opinion :)

Pretty simple, brand new loaded Ecoboost out the door for about $40K, brand new loaded GT out the door for about $60K, is the extra 100HP in the GT worth $20K, probably not but get what you want.

I'd pass over the ecoboost, the coyote motor is superior. You can mod both, the coyote still has more power potential over the ecoboost. Gen 1 can be safely modded to 650, gen 2 and 3 can go to 800.
