Do people read the description? A sequel done right?! Is it even possible? Did the planets align? Well check out the vid and see for yourself. BTW: How awesome is that thumbnail!? Social: / lycanitetv
This is the best of the TES games to me. Always loved the look of the Khajiit in Daggerfall. Was really weirded out when I saw them as beastmen in Morrowind. And being the first TES game I really played, and went through the whole game from beginning to end. Also being able to Spiderman up walls will never get boring to me, ever! Edit: Now that I think about it, I think the Khajiit actually did have a tail in Daggerfall. For some reason that eluded my memory at first. Either way, the complete change to total beast mode in Morrowind still threw me off back then.
I'm glad you think so! As for what I'm cooking up next, I'm cooking up a storm! I just finished up with Oblivion and the DLC for it and now I'm returning back to Morrowind for it's DLC. So I got big things incoming soon.
As someone who straight up made an anime music video in daggerfall for lulz, the best part of daggerfall is DIY storytelling. Its the daydreamer's paradise.
OH MY GOD RUN! SAVE YOURSELF! Hahaha j/k. I doubt it would but thanks for the vote of confidence. It means so much to hear things like that. Take good care of yourself and keep on being awesome, Jay.
Your attitude is very enjoyable and it's a well rounded review! Small PSA though, GOG's DFU unity version is very scuffed in terms of playability. I personally still enjoy playing the dos game over the unity one despite all its shortcomings.
I just gave this game a second (and the first proper) chance in last December and wow what a ride!! One of my favorite games ever! (though I played the Unity port that has way less bugs...) Tbh when I completed the main story I almost wanted to start a new character right away because it was such a joy. But I want to savor the experience and wait a bit so it doesn't get dull later on.
What a legend! Thanks a ton for the sub, pal! I always do my best with the videos I make and it's wonderful to hear that people noticed so thanks a ton! I hope the videos I make in the future will continue to bring a smile to your day! Take care!
Geez, did the first time hearing "Veeeeengeaaaange~" come out of the blue and creep ya out? Then again, related to video games last night I had quite a dream. I was at a nearby joint getting something to eat with some Asian guy I assume to have been associated with, some intruder messing up our order to the floor despite my apparent friend trying to prevent it with some quick martial arts skills and then delays. Then I try to buy sidesnacks but apparently a newbie doing cashier stuff and the restaurant getting crowded. Then apparently passed out or time elapsed and I go to the nearby supermarket of the neighbour, only to find it on flames (oddly, rendered in a way that it's just the fire effects over the model in a video game as if not needing to re-render the place into a burned out state afterwards). And then saw Sephiroth from FF7 in middle of flames coming after me, mostly to let me know I'm not safe despite best attempts to run away XD Ever had video game related nightmares? Also, having Chicken with rice and shitake mushrooms and bamboo with Dr Pepper while watchin' this.
Loved this retrospective. I really hope you do a similar perspective on the Unity version. As someone mentioned, the GOG version is out of date and the mods included weren't given much thought, leading to an unstable game. I'd really recommend doing a mod build of your own. There is a surprising variety of mods available and it's very easy to put together your own mod build
@@LycaniteTV sorry I'd be the wrong person to ask. While I've been planning a Daggerfall playthrough for a while, I haven't actually played much beyond experimenting with mods to see how difficult it is to install them I've only looked at graphics and immersion based mods and there are some that changed the game drastically. One of them is called Dream which u I would still recommend but only for it's updated UI option and nothing else. Besides that, check the top files list from Nexus mods and see what you like. There are some mods that add or what's without straying far from vanilla.
@@LycaniteTV Not sure if you've started playing in Unity again or not, but the video that helped me figure that out was this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8Qc6VQAxo88.html He mentions "sets" of mod types, I think it might help you as well!
Loved this episode. Was enough to convince me to sub. Looking forward to checking out more content here. Edit: coming back to finish the last 10 min of this and I just realised the thumbnail pic is so much more high effort than it needs to be. I love it
"I'm working hard on the next one: Morrowind." Oh boy, this is where it will hit hometown for me then. Morrowind was where my imaginations and my thirst for fantasy stories and RPGs absolutely peaked, my first TES game. I mean, i don't really know what you're going to tell me about this game, which i don't already know yet, but i will still watch that video, too. I'm kinda sad they scrapped the climbing part from Daggerfall for Morrowind though. Would be nice to "climb that mountain over there." I also think from first look that the 3D map of Daggerfall's interiors and dungeons doesn't look so bad, but i've already heard a lot of criticism for it, so something must be fishy with that map, i guess. Anyway, good video there, Lycan. Never expected a channel with not even 2k subs (at this moment) to have videos with such a high level of quality to them, gives this channel these "hidden gem"-vibes for sure. EDIT: Right as i posted this comment and restarted this video, you had to mention the cliffracers... just why... lol.
Hey thanks for reaching out and leaving a wonderful comment, it really means the whole world to me that you took a little time out of your day to type it all up so thanks! It's funny you bring out what got cut out of the games as time went on, I really began to notice it as each game went by. I was originally going to make an extra video discussing all the things that were left out and what I would have liked to see return but I never did do it. In any case I'm glad you enjoyed this video!
I absolutely applaud you for playing vanilla DF for this review. DF has taken my heart, one janky quest after the other. It's like the smelly, old dog your familys had since you were a kid who kinda gets on your nerves sometimes, but no matter how much they may, the family will always accomodate it. Please give DFU a try and let us know what you think. Much love, man!
I do my very best to try and play these games as close to their original release as possible (if I can that is haha). When it does come to Daggerfall I will be returning to the Unity version for sure! I've got a huuuuge gaming backlog but I will return to it as soon as possible along with all the spin off games I can get my hands on. Thanks so much for the comment it was a wonderful read!
At first I didn't think this video would be good when I saw your sub count and views, but you proved me wrong. I throughly enjoyed your video and appreciated the amount of effect you put into it. I don't normally sub to small channels but I really believe you have potential. I look forwards to see what other videos you'll put out in the future.
Thank you for your kind words and taking a chance on a small channel. I might be new to all of this but I'm working hard, this is something I am passionate about.
Since you asked in a reply to a comment of mine in your recent video, I ate Pirkka Suklaatyyny cereals, or chocolate pillows. Cocoa cereals with milky filling. And also Nestle Cinnamons. The first one in particular is rather common choice for me to eat with retro gaming related videos often.
Ah, so much memories of my grandmother literally dragging me out from my school friend house at 10PM after endless day of Mortal Kombat 2 and Sid Mayer's Pirates ... I never knew Daggerfall existed, I don't think I could play it with my 2 grader brain back then anyway.
Oh and joining a temple did NOT lock you out of potions. You could have joined the Dark Brotherhood. They also have potion making. Honestly magica is better than potions anyway. Potions take up inventory space and once their gone their gone. You can cast magica whenever you need to and just rest to recharge your magica. As for HUGE dungeons there is another point for using Daggerfall Unity. You can use the smaller dungeon option. Also don't forget the recall spell for teleporting. And YES if you clip outside the dungeons so you can see the whole layout sometimes you can see that there are sometimes broken dungeon sections that can not be reached by any means. This is also fixed in the Unity version.
Sorry for leaving three comments but I can tell you really liked Daggerfall and it is one of my favorite games. Now that you have had the vanilla experience if you haven't already install Unity and then go to the Nexus and get some great mods. Not ones that change the game drastically. But kind of a vanilla plus type experience. Enhance the graphics and lighting. Install the decorator. Whatever you are drawn to. I wanted to let you know since you didn't mention them about the Deadric quests. You liked the artifact quests in Arena. Well if you noticed those artifacts are the same artifacts that in later games are tied to different Daedric Lords. Like the Oghma Infinium being from Hermaus Mora. But that lore did not exist yet in Arena. Well in Daggerfall it does. It's kind of well hidden but you can actually find all 16 Daedric Lords in Daggerfall. Sheogorath (my personal favorite) is even part of the main quest towards the end. Each Daedric Lord can be summoned but only on one specific in game day PER YEAR. Crazy isn't it. Besides being able to look it up on UESP you can find the summoning days by reading in game books.
there are mods for the unity version of daggerfall available ; 100% this was THE TES game with the most foresight/farvision , the modern games are just theme parks ; current tech could create such an amazingly immersive procedural world , but they choose not to
We had this on the family 486 PC and I loved it. The world was so huge, I think it is on a magnitude of what Oblivion was. I mean, most of it was empty, but it was still huge. I was a preteen and the 2D half naked women in towns drove me nuts, I just had to walk around them a little to see nips but they would always be facing you since they were just 2D cardboard cutouts.
I played daggerfall in high school engineering, to pass the time. I somehow figured out how to launch it on dosbox. I did escape the start dungeon, but only did a few sidquests. I intend to play again on unity as a Battlemage once i finish beating Oblivion on max difficulty.
That's the spirit, pal! Dive back into it whenever you're ready. And a little side note, I wish you the very best of luck with Oblivion. Max difficulty sounds like no cake walk. Good luck, pal.
It's absolutely criminal that your channel only has 1k subs. You're video on Arena is the best I've seen for that game. That story about the game breaking mannimarco bug is very sad. 😥 I love Daggerfall but stuff like that is why I only could complete the main quest twice. Hopefully you can come back eventually and enjoy Daggerfall Unity.
Hahaha I hear that a lot actually, however I don't mind being a smaller channel. It lets me slowly get used to everything and also be able to reach out to everybody and thank them personally for their wonderful comments like this one. So thanks, pal. As for returning to Daggerfall. Yeah I'll be back to it eventually haha, it will take some time but I promise I'll be back.
Daggerfall is famous for it's tons of bugs. That's why today we have the Unity version. It's virtually bug free. If you don't install any mods it simply fixes all the games bugs and adds modern quality of life features like modern controls. I have watched so many different youtubers who "want to play the original for that authentic experience" or some such nonsense. I would say that Unity is the game the way Bethesda intended it to be but didn't have the time or the manpower to accomplish. If you research the development history of the game you will better understand what went wrong and why during development and why the at the time tiny team at Bethesda really did all they could to even release the game in a somewhat playable state. Jwlar has a great retrospective on the game including a section on the development. The mods for Daggerfall Unity are like icing on the cake. One of my favorite is the decorator. It allows you to fully furnish and decorate your player home or ship with any item in the game. It's like hearthfire for Skyrim but much more customizable.
this maybe controversial as I am a big fan of Daggerfall, but when I replay it now with the Unity engine, I ALWAYS select the option for smaller dungeons. The handcrafted dungeons(the ones from the main quest), are not changed but the procedurally generated dungeons are smaller with this setting and it's much more enjoyable.
I think somebody told me to turn on that option when I return to this game (well the Unity version of it anyway). I can't speak to how I'll feel about it but I think I'll enjoy smaller dungeons. I'm also glad to hear that the handcrafted main quest dungeons are left untouched! I admit I was a little worried about that so thanks for putting my mind at ease.
That "tutorial" dungeon is freaking massive. I saw quite a bit of it during my multiple, desperate attempts to run out of there. I assume you're meant to return later and finish it
Please, in 2023, don't play the original Daggerfall! Play the Unity version instead. It is very faithful to the original, but has way less bugs, better controls, more settings to tinker around with and it has a bunch of easy to install mods to enhance the game even further, if you like.
@@darkzircon8165 actually you could get all deadric weapon in level 1 and you just need to fast travel to ogre lodge or something from your first dungeon and steal from the drawer upstairs. Congratulations, you've got all deadric weapons type in a matter of 10 minutes into the game
@@VVAZI No need to thank me, it's your hard work and passion that created the music. I'm just listening to the awesome beats! I wish you nothing but the best of luck with any future tunes you create, pal.
I can't really play Daggerfall in its original version. The bugs that Unity fixes, and the unfinished content it restores, are just too important to me. The fact that unity runs so dang smooth and has a Smaller Dungeons option certainly both help. But I've come to love that version of the game.
22:50 - I know the exact hole you're talking about that requires Levitate (or Slowfalling). It's a particular dungeon seed. As a fun quirk of it, there's usually a chain hanging down from a platform above that, when you click the Use key on it, gives you the Levitate effect.
The game has a steep learning curve especially at character creation. However if you learn the mechanics and such, you can break the game easily. Magic and Lycanthropy are supreme in terms of power gaming.
The magic really helped me while I was playing but I didn't know that Lycanthropy was supreme. When I return I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the tip.
@Lycan Passive +40 to Str, Spd, End and Agl. Transforming at will provides a full heal. And the detriments are manageable and ultimately negated upon doing Hircine's quest.
I remember when I bought Daggerfall as a kid. It took a lot of allowances. Then I played it hours upon hours. Finally, I found the end door to the dungeon, and thought "hmm, it was a little short, but I guess it was still long and scary enough to be worth the money..." Then I clicked the door, popped out into the clear wintry air, and found out it had only been the tutorial dungeon and the rest of the world was the size of great britain.
one of my first characters was a burglar type custom class and every location i robbed i left one of my panties as a sign that it was me who robbed the place. of course the game would never acknowledge it, but i just imagined how with every new burglary my fame as the panty burglar would rise and how people would talk about it in hushed tones. ^^
You seriously buying ads on RU-vid? Don't do that man, it makes you look desperate and people hate the RU-vid ads, they'll associate you with ads as well.
