The Fall started me on my accent away from commercial music and focus on message. It most certainly helped that their music making was raw and full of energy. My ears have been reborn, out comes the vinyl yeah!
Reminds me of Dr. Robert by the Beatles and you're right about you never can turn this song loud enough. That was my first reaction 25 years ago and my first reaction when I heard it today!
I used to listen a lot to that oneabout he looking for a motorbyke. I listened to Fall in John Peel showin Berlin in 1981. I don't remember what was called. Anyway this one song original : The Other Half , pioneer rock garage band 0f 1965/66.Faboulous , sligtly like Sky Saxon and The Seeds,
I literally remember the day I saw the Mr Pharmacist video the first time. It was in the morning sometime, I was at my father's place. There was no MTV yet (where I'm from), I dont think, musta been on Sky or what was it, Super Channel.
The thing I like about The Fall is that no matter how obscure Mark E Smith could be with his lyrics, the songs are so rhythmical you can actual dance away to them... should you wish to
Is there anyone who still hasn't heard 'Cheap Space Chant' ? In RU-vid, search for 'Timekode, Mark E Smith' and listen to the strangest and best MES/Fall collaboration of them all...
I musta been real young, 13 perhaps?, because I remember what a revelation it was. I had literally heard nothing like this before! Mark E Smith's snarl, the guitars everything pointed. The 'fuck it all' (I hadnt heard the Sex Pistols yet). Seriously, it was an eye-opener like nothing until... years later, Public Enemy's Bring the Noise. Once every five years you hear something that hit you right onto a different level - this was one of those, for me.
Sorry, this was not Leigh's first 'full' tv appearance. That would have been (in the whole of the UK} the Tube. Where he showed Jools and Paula his arse out knickers. happy days. I was so thrilled when Leigh got arty with my favourite band !
