The Fantastic Four 1994 - Caravan Of Garbage

The first genuine shot at a live action Fantastic Four movie didn't come in 2005 but with Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four 1994. After completion and without the knowledge of the director, actors and composers the whole project was buried, never to see the light of day. Until it was leaked in the early 2000's. Anyways it's bad but not all bad? This is our Caravan Of Garbage review.

The saddest thing about Vader's dialogue before they had James Earl Jones dub over it is that David Prowse (the man in the suit) legitimately thought (and possibly was led to believe) that his dialogue, the stuff he was saying, was gonna be the actual dialogue heard in the finished film and he had no idea that they dubbed over him until the premiere in 1977. Or so I heard at least...

I've heard that story as well, but it doesn't make any sense. Prowse was never brought in after filming to dub his dialog. He'd been working in movies for years by the time he did Star Wars, and had to know that his helmet was muffling all of his lines to the point they'd be unusable, just as Doctor Doom's lines were in FF.

You never bring up the REASON this movie was made. You mention that it wasn't ever meant to be released, which is true. It was created for the single purpose of retaining the rights, as the deal Bernd Eichinger had signed required him to produce a film within seven years to keep the Fantastic Four property. And he never mentioned this to Roger Corman, or anyone else working on the film.
@FrennisDaemon
@FrennisDaemon 4 года назад
They likely left it out for two reasons: 1) Most people who care about it, already know this fact. 2) Considering how nuts the film is, it's the LEAST interesting thing about it.
@brandonlyon730
@brandonlyon730 4 года назад
And funny enough history pretty much repeated with Fant4stic, quickly getting a director together to make a movie to keep the rights from Marvel, only that film actually got released and the rights still went back to Marvel anyway after the fox buyout.

It’s not garbage at all, it’s literally the most faithful adaptation of the Fantastic Four ever & wasn’t even released. It stayed true to their 60s counterparts from their character dynamics to the effects reminiscent of funny classic SCI-FI such as Dr Who rather than trying to modernize them in order to make them contemporary like the Tim Story films tried to do which resulted in them not being the FF. But most of all, they understood that Dr Doom is NOT a rich business mogul but an egotistical genius dictator. And the Josh Trash, sorry Trank, film doesn’t exist.

Stan Lee is in the Troma movie Return to Nuke ‘Em High: Volume 1, directed by Lloyd Kaufman. I’m still waiting on part 2 to be released outside the U.S .I think it may even be Stan Lee’s last actual movie appearance, although it probably isn’t.

Fun facts, (and if by fun you mean stupid trivia that no one else cares about, then yah it's fun) the actor who played Dr Doom, Joseph Culp, also also played Dick Whitman's father Archie, on MADMEN, and was the real life son of Robert Culp, of I Spy fame.

I heard they used a customised 1980’s Boba Fett action figure for the Human Torche’s big “flame on” scene. Maybe someone can verify that for me. Brilliant work!

i'm a complete sucker for documentaries about failed projects and overall behind the scenes struggles (like lost soul, fyre, lost in la mancha, jodorowsky's dune), so thank you so much for the tip! and if anyone else got some more recommendations then please, do tell!

This movie is actually charming and good when not showing the mole man, I mean if they had just focused on Doctor doom and the FF maybe it could have been better

Man, someone needs to do an edit of the special effects in this movie, and just use cuts from the other terrible-but-good-looking F4 movies. I bet it would go up several notches in quality, just with that alone. The fact that the only extant copy of the movie is VHS quality actually explains so much of the look. I learned some things today! :D Thanks!

I think it was a pretty decent superhero movie for the year it was made, for the budget they had to work with. The documentary paints a sad story for the actors involved. They poured their hearts into the production.
