I've been retired for 3 years, I'm 63. My husband has been retired for 14 years. He has slowed down a lot in the last few years due to health issues and spends a lot of time in the recliner with the TV. UGH! We have a mini farm and I have an AirBnB cabin on our farm so I'm actually in many ways working. The first 2 years I spent a lot of time doing catch up chores that we didn't get done while working. This last year I have had "time" on my hands. Its been an adjustment for sure. So I've actively pursued things to stay occupied. I'm involved in my church, I've taking up swimming and hiking and walking (mostly to lose 20 pounds and stay healthy). I have a large garden as well which I enjoy being outdoors. Summer is great, Winter is tough. I can't sit and read but I do listen to audiobooks. Also planning on short mini trips (2-3 days) which doesn't involve a lot of travel time. Unfortunately a lot of what I'm doing my husband isn't able to participate in due to his health issues, so I do a lot of activities on my own. I stay connected with a few ladies from my previous jobs and we try to get together for breakfast every month or two. Social connections are so important. I do actually keep a schedule/routines posted on a large white board and try to stick to it.

You are so smart to have a plan. And yes health is such an unpredictable factor. You ultimately need to keep yourself going even when you may be doing it alone. I’m with you though, I’m going to look in different places and save reading for those bad weather days/months. Thanks for sharing! Great ideas

I always find your insights interesting! I’m commenting to tell you 2 things that are making aging more fulfilling for me- I mean it. I began regular workouts this year at age 74 for the first time ever. I do a strength and resistance program on scheduled times 2 days a week. It’s actually energizing for me and I’m seeing many improvements after 4 1/2 months- better balance, stronger upper body strength and more ease of walking as well. The second thing I’ve been doing for many years is nurturing my spiritual life. I am in a small close group of women who lift one another up and meet once a week to grow together spiritually. We’ve been together over 25 years which is amazing. We have good boundaries and a common love of growing spiritually. It has worked well. It also gives me a weekly scheduled time to show up for myself and others I love. Nurturing my spiritual side is a need I’m so thankful I can attend to and it continues to keep me exploring. Sandee R

I love this so much! I am going to be doing a few videos that incorporate both of these wonderful ways to help us age happily and healthily. Mind and body are so important. Thanks

I am 59 and ican relate😢. Trying to keep myself busy with having appointments every day. Also coffe with friends. Grocery Shopping. Walking my Dog. Reading so much. Running errands and shopping once in a while. Its true that with less stress we stop !!! But its my rule: go out every day. Putting make up. No sweat pants. Andy husband is still working full time. I make also a to do list for every day of the week except sundays. So i really go out every day. No excuses....because when i worked.... There were no excuses either😊.

Laura, you seem like a very smart, curious person. I think it’s important to treat life like a career. I have a loose plan for every day, weekend, month and year.

I’m working on that right now. I think having a plan even a loose one is such a good idea! Thanks for the comment

I owned a landscaping company for over 20 years and retired in my early 70’s. Now at 75 I am building a new home which will be used for retreats, family, etc… I wanted to comment on this site to encourage you to keep busy physically, mentally and spiritually as being bored and having no stimulation, nothing to look forward to will decrease your abilities to live life with a purpose. Ask GOD to guide you 🥰

I can relate to you. I retired last December and am still figuring it out. I was told it takes about a year of itching to return to work before you start to embrace the retired life. Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to hearing more about your journey. :-)

Brilliant, and every word makes so much sense. Keeping the enthusiasm going, and finding the right balance in mental and physical stimulation through activities seems to be the key, but is hard. Most people begin to lead an uninspired life after a certain age and are unable to find encouraging activities. Making videos on how to find the means and methods to keep oneself energetically rejuvenated will be very helpful. Thanks for this video!

I took early retirement from a stressful job in social work and was so looking forward to doing nothing except things I liked, but after about 2 weeks , like you , I found it was not what I thought it was going to be and I was so bored, so I started a little cleaning business and now I am out every day, made new friends (acquaintances) and am tired and fulfilled at the end of the day and had a lot of exercise :) not for everyone , but it is suiting me and the extra cash comes in handy now I have a granddaughter who likes to spend my money ha ha. My Mum did the same only she worked for a cancer charity and has only just left there at 87. I think we have in our minds this lovely retirement, but it is not always what we think , loving your videos by the way and if you are in your 60s you look amazing :)

Thanks so much! And yes I think we look forward to retiring and think we will be so happy that we never consider ‘planning’ for the social aspects of it

You hit the nail on the head in every area of this subject, and I’m loving your channel! I’ve been retired for 19 years after retiring early, and couldn’t wait to begin my new life of freedom and fun! It has been very enjoyable in many ways. I’m fortunate to have a few group activities every week and an active social life, but it’s become more difficult the last couple of years for some reason. My husband still works full time so I’m in it alone, I believe boredom has set in now, and I’m also lacking purpose. Being busy without purpose does become boring and redundant, although it beats sitting around the house. For me the challenge of being older and already having lived through so many phases of life is that it’s difficult to find the new and unexpected in things anymore, and that takes much of the thrill out of living. I do love life, I love my life, and this has been a surprising development for me. Where to go from here?

It is definitely a process. Unfortunately we’ve been go go go for years and thought this part, slowing down, would be so easy. I wish I’d started planning sooner but I’m all in now.

I relate. The biggest fear is the feeling of if I slow down is this it, do I now accept the slow decline to death. My answer is do what you can for as long as you can. Your body.is your best guide

That soooo hits home! Do what you can do for as long as you can, I love that. We all have different levels of ability but we can’t stop pushing ourselves to whatever that level is. Thanks❤

I sold my business during Covid. So I retired at 58. I am now 60 and I’m very lost. I have two homes, one in the city and one in the country. I have a mini farm and large garden. I started having cocktails with my husband after dinner and it has turned into a problem. I also gained 10 pounds. I feel lost and lonely. I recently stopped drinking and I doing Keto. I attended church with my daughter every week and that uplifting. I’m not sure if I should go back to work? Do you have any advice for me?

There are so many of us in the same boat❤ here’s what I’m doing, I’m challenging myself to do one new thing each week. It isn’t always going to be something big, for me it may be taking a hike. Grabbing some binoculars and heading out to a nearby lake or reaching out to someone I haven’t seen for a while and meeting them for coffee. I’m also listening to a lot of podcasts. There are so many interesting topics and I’m learning new things. The best is combining a walk with a podcast, even just 20 minutes. ❤❤
