Flexispot E7pro standing desk: bit.ly/3NuZWq0 (US) bit.ly/3NsEvWO (CA) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When the HORI Steam Controller was announced, I was really excited to finally get something that was dedicated to the Steam platform, but more so for the Steam Deck. I saw this as a way to get native input and integration with the Steam Deck while in "docked mode". This controller seems to cater to my needs specifically. I pretty much can’t play any game that involves shooting or aiming a camera without gyro and capacitive thumbstick touch is basically the best gyro implementation made so far. It helps with recentering my controller much like you would by picking up your mouse and putting it back to the center of your mousepad. The Dualsense has gyro but there’s no way to map the thumbstick touch to gyro activate. And I don’t feel like I’d really miss vibration. The steamdeck itself technically doesn’t have any rumble motors anyways and just the touchpads produce haptics.
it seesm like you had the gyro configured as rightstick instead of mouse. you can easily tell, because when you made fast movements with the controller, the camera responded slower. because the rightstick is acceleration based. meaning the more you tilt the stick the faster the camera moves. the analog stick also has a minimum and maximum turn speed, wich effects the gyro behavior . like i said if you move the controller faster then the maximum turn speed (wicjh is different in all games) then the camera will slow down. if you configure gyro as the mosue you wont have this problem. but most games dont allow for mixed inputs. wich means htat you would need to map the controller inputs to keyboard inputs.
Its a pretty nice controller! Been playing Helldivers 2 with it for a few days now. At first I thought I have to get used to it, because I missed a lot of shots, then I realized that the Gyro is very jittery and does not react very well at all. It must be some kind of bluetooth problem, because after attaching it to the cable it worked like a charm! My favourite PC Controller right now!
@@baldlyrudy Unfortunately yes, this is normally mitigated by a specific dongle for the controller. The old steamcontroller did it perfectly! This one however only comes with a normal bluetooth dongle. I had similar issues with the switch pro controllers on PC. I have been using the NYXI Athena, but I got tired of reconnecting them to bluetooth a million times to get rid of the jitter. However on cable this new one works just fine, and it saves me from wanting to play and having an empty battery too. 😀
I definitely want the gyro. I've burned through three Steam Controllers so far and they are getting expensive and hard to find. I know nearly everyone hates them, but I actually prefer the trackpads on the Steam Controller over thumbsticks. I can deal with thumbsticks as long as it has a gyro.
Does the bluetooth dongle automatically connect to the controller, or do you still have to go through settings on your computer and search for bluetooth devices? Also when testing on Switch, did you try wired? Thank you.
Hi! Just wanted to get back to you. I saw the comment earlier, and I thought I got all of the different ways of connecting to the Nintendo Switch. I tried everything and it just didn't connect at all to the Nintendo Switch.
Hi Bald Rudy, how’s it going? Is the steam deck worth buying? I was debating a PS portal earlier but I’m unsure. I just got the hyrule edition lite which I’m in love with at the moment. I’ve got 2 oled, now 3 lites, PlayStation 5 and old Xbox not in use haha maybe I’ll get the Xbox series X maybe in the future. I’m currently playing Fire Emblem Engage so slowly getting through my backlog. Apologies for the long comment. I also bought the Nintendo flip cover for the lite and watched reviews and looks fabulous I think I’ll prefer this than the regular zip covers.
I think the PS Portal is a great accessory if you only want to play PlayStation games on a handheld. If you want more versatility, and you have a Steam Library of games, then I'd recommend the Steam Deck OLED and install Chiaki4Deck. That way you can play PlayStation games like the Portal would, but also have the flexibility of playing Steam games as well.
@@jackrobins8756 if it sways your decision the steam deck makes a better PlayStation Portal than the PlayStation portal. It doesn't have the haptic triggers but the streaming just works way better
@@jackrobins8756 Are you interested in PC games or emulation? Then get the Steam Deck and download a program to remote play your PS5 and you will only miss the haptic feedback from the controller. If you are not interested at all in tinkering settings and so on, then the PS Portal will work out of the box at a cheaper price. The Steam Deck does almost everything the Portal can but it's more expensive and will require certain knowledge, which in the long run I can see that being super useful.
If you play lots of PC games, then steam deck is worth it. It can also remote play PS5 so its a good alternative to PS portal but the screen isnt as good and controller isnt as comfortable.
As interesting as this is, to me it indicates that Valve is testing the waters when it comes to interest for a product like this. Pretty sure they're working on their own device for the western market and this is just a "soft launch" type of thing.
Yeah its hard to pick this over the 8bitdo Ultimate controller. its so good, cheap and easier to get. Its been my daily driver since getting it. Replacing all my Xbox core controllers.
Personally I'm not even going to consider this controller unless they bring it officially to North America. It does look like an ok controller but the price to import it just isn't worth it.
same old xbox format, wierdly jutted out dpad and right stick, face buttons seem too small, rounded and spaced out for me to play fighting games with and i already have a few controllers with gyro and flick stick set up, no thank you, im still gonna buy it for my collection
@@CandarianGaming i figure it does, im just a real weirdo about it, i primarily use nintendo switch pro controller for fighting games for its triggers and massive face buttons though i recently started using the ps4 controller as well because i find the lowered left stick (which is nice and grippy) better for my motion input while i find the higher nintendo switch stick better for charge characters etc. just a lot of weird preference stuff like that.
I mean 8bitdo did an officially licensed steamdeck controller like last year so I think that title isn't entirely accurate. This hori controller is just another licensed steam controller. It's not an inhouse valve made steam controller.
8BitDo did an officially licensed Steam Deck Controller? I wasn't aware of that. I know 8BitDo and Viture had a collaboration that produced a controller that looked like it was meant for the Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition, but that's all I know. Never heard of 8BitDo working with Valve directly for a Steam Deck controller.
@@baldlyrudy That's my bad then. I guess I was misinformed. Every review I had seen for that controller had said it was a steam deck controller. I didn't realize it was a partnered controller that had nothing to do with steam deck beyond being color matched.
@@exturkconner no worries. I'm genuinely curious if 8BitDo did or ever will work directly with Valve on a licensed Steam controller. I personally love my 8BitDo Ultimate Controller, so I'd be excited for that.
@@baldlyrudy I imagine if they had you'd know about it. They have the licensed Wukong controllers up and blaring right now and they've always mentioned the licensing with Xbox and Switch. So if they were licensed by valve it'd be advertised. Like I said just everyone I had seen on that controller was "The Steam Deck controller" but that's not even how it was advertised. It was advertised as a switch controller that also could do steam.
What's the difference between the steam controller and this one the other one looks small it's from the steam website which one is better The Valve Steam Controller or the hori steam controller i like hori steam controller better than the ugly Valve Steam Controller from steam
Mainly the input. The Steam Controller from Valve has touchpads instead of analog sticks for directional input. To compensate for that, the Hori one has pretty solid gyro controls when wired.
Tell that to the licensing from Valve. There are parameters that HORI needed to abide by in order for the controller to be made. It's the same as going to a McDonald's; every single McDonald's is a franchise, but it's still a McDonald's. Franchising, in a sense, is licensing branding from a corporation with support.
I have to disagree about the gyro/weight argument that some may put forward. No gyro enthusiast has ever complained about weight fatigue over the past 9 years that I've seen.
This controller is so crap. Stupid asymmetric joysticks?? no trackpads??? All steam deck owners want is a steam deck controller without the screen in the middle. A worthy companion for the steam deck this is not
If you play shooters on Steam yet you'll never use this controller again, and if you usually use mouse and keyboard, why would you ever publish videos of controller reviews? That's a terrible bias.
Why would I recommend a product that I don't see myself using? Why would rather I lie to you and tell you, "Yeah! I'm going to use this controller from now on!"? I use controllers more than any other input because I play more single-player games that aren't shooters. GOW Ragnarok, Dead Cells, Final Fantasy, etc. The time I use M+K is for games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Cyberpunk 2077. I literally said 14:51 that I personally prefer to use my DualSense Edge and 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth Controller. I'm not sure how that's being biased against controllers. I said my personal bias was that I would rather have haptic feedback instead of gyro.
