Hard to believe that all four are gone now. Thanks for the laughter and music. Those were the days of childhood innocence for me. Flip made you forget the significant fact that he was one of the few Blacks who had their own show. He was cool and commanded the stage.
Watch Seinfeld and Eddy Murphy Comdians in Cars interview and they will reminisce as well regarding Black stars of any kind at that time - it was like they only allowed one at a time ( Eddie’s take)
@@christineferrario1700 Flip showcased all the black comedians and entertainers. He coaxed funny performances out of people who were not comedians too.
Helen Reddy just passed away Sept. 29 2020. Everyone of these stars in this show are gone. Boy is my generation gettin' old. These TV shows may seem weird to younger people but it is what we grew up with and lived. s snapshot of "life" almost 50 years ago from this date. No one younger has much clue Helen Reddy did an iconic very important song back then "I Am Woman [hear me roar, in numbers too big to ignore]" or that Flip Wilson was the top comedian in the 1st half of 1970's, the first African American to have hos own variety show [I loved that guy, he was so funny back then]. the other two comedians were at the top of their game, Joan Rivers...and Redd Foxx had his own show on the same network NBC, Sandford and Son. Redd was funnier than hell. Here on this show was no racism, yelling and screaming at each other on TV 24/7. It was all inclusive as it could be back then, but we did have an idiot for president covering up the Watergate break in. Oh well....Flip Wilson's TV show and humor made it easier to get through the school or work week back then. I have fond memories of mom and brother and I watching this top rated show almost every week for about 4 years. Thanks Flip, we all miss you man. Total class.
I'm enjoying watching my dear friend Flip Wilson shows I'm so blessed to have had him for a special friend in my life 20yrs ago I was fortunate enough to go on his last cruise before his death and it was my first cruise Flip will be forever in my heart he was a special soul he taught me so much God knows I appreciate Flip Wilson THANKS for the laughs Flip you will never be forgotten and always loved my friend rest well.
This was my favourite TV show when I was a kid. I adored Flip Wilson ... so multitalented & multitasking ... loved all his monologues & crazy characters.
Wow! Watching this show just sends me back to Kansas City in the 70s 11yrs old laughing and enjoying watching Flip Wilson's show growing up,clueless as to what would be going on in 2022,Lord how I miss those days.
Yes, she did. She left Hollywood, went back to Australia and donated her $. Fame & Hollywood scene wasn't for her. She did a few concerts before she passed.
-This was the show that Helen was introduced on by Flip Wilson right before she had her own summer replacement show called The Helen Reddy Show. The Helen Reddy Show was in the summer of 1973 before she was made the permanent host of The Midnight Special a couple of years later because of her huge popularity and success!
I went to a church that locked us in with long poles on the door 🚪. Threatened us and made us give. I only had change. All the $ I had. The lady preacher said , , ,if ya just give change you are stealing your chair. Someone with real money could be sitting in your chair. I was praying 🙏 hard to get out the locked doors. Finally they let us out and I never went back. ..I think that preacher lady got the idea from the Flip Wilson show
Never knew about this show until I think 1999.I really love watching it. Now I'm going to binge because I think I'll be seeing some for the first time. Thank you.
Oh, how I love Joan Rivers. A gifted, compassionate, generous, and caring woman. Moreover, she ALWAYS lifts my spirits through her humor and through her human spirit. Here's to you Ms. Rivers! I will never forget you and will carry your humorous sensibility forever.
Today they swear all they want but some would probably take offense to Geraldine or the "A banana for your monkey" joke. They should make people sign a "let it go" contract before they can watch any comedy.
Helen had a unique, genuine quality to her voice and she made it look so easy to sing. A natural talent. When music was happy, about love or about a lost love.
Hang on... that’s a pretty broad brush you’re painting with. Labeling an entire generation is a slippery slope and time often heals old wounds. 60’s and 70’s kids were struggling from the Vietnam war and finding their way. All that said, you should watch the Helen Ready biopic on Netflix. Helen was amazing and had respect for herself and got taken by her husband to the cleaners. Some packages look all wrapped nicely but what’s inside is sad, scarred and damaged.,Careful judging books by their covers, but you knew that already.
Where did you find a complete, unedited one hour Flip Wilson Show? I keep hoping someone will release the entire series on dvd. I'd love the episode from 1972 with Sammy Davis Jr, Lily Tomlin and Ed McMahon.
This is one of a handful of episodes from the “Flip Wilson Show” best-of DVDs. They’re still around on eBay and Amazon. I would love to see the whole entire series, unedited, on DVD or streaming.
She was definitely cute, thin face, high cheek bones, some of those jokes she told her entire career and they were always funny, her comedic timing and delivery was superb, on my Mt Rushmore of greatest female comedians.
I miss good comedy shows. I understand the adult jokes now, but I used to laugh at the physical pratfalls. Intelligent jokes relatable to life, without filth.
It is only now you noticed how much TV has changed, it used to be mainly white and male, that maybe why Flip Wilson, never made it to UK. Joan Rivers does a jokes about bolding men that would have appealed pleaded to Donald Trump.
