I always see comments on how you "spend so much money on the garden" and that's not helpful, BUT, let me share my two cents because I had a glass of wine and I'm in the mood to... I live in Brasil. As faraway from Oregon as you can be. I can't buy most of the things you show, even if I wanted to (and I would buy the proven winner stuff if they delivered here, believe me). But you inspire me SO MUCH to go out and clean my garden and plant stuff, and grow from seed, and prune everything. And my garden is probably 1/500 of yours haha. I don't compare, I just enjoy seeing you take such good care of your garden that inspire me to do the same here with what I have. Even if our seasons aren't the same, or our weather aren't the same, or our budget aren't the same. So if people take the time to comment negative stuff here, it just shows how limited they are.

Love this video Laura. I work on fountains and pumps quit a bit. If you get calcium build on you pump. Soak it in a vinigar and hot water sloution. it will desolve the calcium and clean the pump piston very well without causing and damage to the pump. And with Alge. I use a granulated algicide. Just add it to the foutain water directly and it will cut the alge build up in half. You can find algicide at pretty much any garden center. Once again I love your videos. your tutorials have help me learn and has help the evolution of my gardening dramatically. Much love to you and your family. And thank you.

Hi Laura, Just a quick FYI...I have a fountain that gets algae in it too, I drain (Scoop out) the water then I put white vinegar in the bowl and brush it around. It kills the algae and doesn't hurt the plants, bees or birds. I rinse it out and drain it again and it's sparkling clean for quite a while. I have also cleaned my pump by removing it, put it in a bucket of vinegar & water and run it until all the gunk comes out. I have hard water too, 'cause I'm on a well. I've cleaned my fountain 2 or 3 times this season and it stays clear for weeks during the summer. I even left it all winter and gave it a cleaning in spring and it works great. (I'm in Western WA). We had a pretty mild winter but it did freeze a few times, but no problem. I turned on the pump after the last frost and it's been going ever since.

Hi Laura. I have a fountain and read that on occasion when it starts to get green you can add a little peroxide to the water can kill algae. It doesn’t harm birds (not sure of plants). Might help with the maintenance. By the way I LOVE your videos. You saved my plants and gave love to gardening ❤️😊🌸

I LOVE the aged look on a fountain! Mine looks like a couple of hundred years old! My home style is an old southwest territorial as well so that works so well! The faded concrete color looks more authentic as well. That is a beautiful fountain! I want to just sit in all of the resting places in your gardens, i dont think that i could pick a favorite!

That garden is so beautiful with the fountain running!💚 I wondered if you have filters on your water system? I grew up on a small farm with well water that had a LOT of iron in it, when we first moved in it could even leave orange marks on white laundry. My parents put a filter in the pump house and another one inside the house where the water came in and it made a HUGE difference. I imagine Aaron's already done something like that, but thought I'd mention just in case. Also wanted to thank you both for all the inspiration and knowledge you have provided me.🌿💚🌿 You've really upped my garden game, and made me look like a genius to my neighbors😉 I always recommend you all to everyone, and now that I've got my mom hooked, we often have conversations like "Well Laura said...supertunia...BT...Rose RX...fertilizer day..."🙂

I have a fountain that grew algae so I visited our local fountain shop where I bought a little bottle of anti algae I use a tablespoon about once a month and voila, no algae. Fountains are work. They must be filled, or topped off with water every few days if you run them daily in the summer. However they add such a lovely atmosphere to summer evenings, makes you want to have dinner and enjoy the evening outside each time we run it.

Oh my goodness Laura, what a GLORIOUS SOUND!! Third time's the charm!! I'm so happy that you don't have to go and get another pump!! I'm impatient when it comes to not knowing how to get the rust off of it, so I would have brought out my stainless steel scrubber to see if that "erased" the rust stains, but I'm glad you are not being as impulsive as I would be, under the same circumstances 😉 Love your channel and I'm thrilled that you are expecting again!! That fountain is gorgeous! Nice job cleaning it up! I have a tip for you on the algae... put something copper in the fountain: pieces of copper pipe, copper flashing, etc. the copper inhibits the growth of algae. I have a solid copper birdbath and it’s never had algae in it! Some people say you can use pennies for a birdbath, but that fountain might need more and the pipe or flashing would definitely make cleaning easier than pennies lol! I love your videos, and your property is gorgeous!

I love Gaura! I think it is so graceful & beautiful like a bouquet of a bunch of little pink dancing butterflies (& your word ethereal is a perfect word for this lovely plant!). My issue w/ it is I can never get it to take in my garden. I am in zone 8 (Western Oregon) & all the major nurseries around her supply them & say that they are hardy to our zone. I plant them just like the tags say, w/ the proper light & water conditions & they either 1) won't last a month or 2) come back the next year like the perennial they are supposed to be. So I sadly just gave up!☹ I don't think I've had this issue w/ anything else I have ever grown.

I like it, and yes it needs the proper space to grow. I planted 5 very small plants this spring, something kept pulling up two of them and they eventually died, and we have had a very long hot dry spell, so three are alive, but still struggling, i found a three color variegated one i wanted to try, still figuring out if it will work, but i planted for the bees.

I was wondering about this, too! Bleach can also be safe, if used in the correct quantities, because it only takes a few days to fully convert to water I think. I read that recently when researching rainwater collection and storage. But may not be the right choice if birds and butterflies have access to it all the time?
