So cool! I've been watching different videos of people using their freeze dryer and it amazes me all the things you can do. I secretly want one myself. The baby rabbits are so cute!!! I will be getting into raising rabbits real soon. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Thank you so much for sharing.

The first "real" backpacking food I ever bought was freeze dried ice cream, at a backpacking shop on Ventura Blvd in 1969. Now I'm going to have to buy my own freeze drier so I can make freeze dried ice cream sandwiches! And this is why I retired?
You are the BEST GAMGAM EVER! The only thing I ever got from MY GAMGAM was a switch across my backside (to be fair, I actually had to go and GET that FOR her, and, I most probably earned it. Hope you have a great trip down and back! PS- so, that big old contraption gets down to -20 degrees, but, your porch has frequently been much colder.... that's messed up!🤣
You can freeze dry tons of stuff. And if stored properly freeze-dried foods last for years and years and years. Unlike dehydrated foods that still have some moisture in them. It's a great tool to preserve food for long-term storage. I would love one but they are so expensive.
I wonder if this is like those Dippin Dots sold. I only can think of trail mix, coffee, and cereals as freeze dried but maybe it can freeze dry soups that you just add water and reconstitute? How is freeze drying different from dehydrating? I am clueless I did not grow up on a farm or home gardens. I don't can. I do batch freezing but that is it. I heard awful tales by my Granny about botulated preserves and jellies, so I've been hesitant to just go whole head into it for fear of killing myself.

@@lisetteboucherfortin4775 On avg the electric is $3-$5 per 24 hr cycle. Depends on where you live and your cost of electric. The medium which is 4 trays costs less to run as it takes less time than a large which is 5 trays. That is $3-$5 per 24 hrs.
I will have to show that part. I put them in Jason jars if I'm going to eat them soon but for long term storage I put them in mylar bags with an oxygen absorber where they will last 20 years or more

They probably want to try freeze-dried ice cream. From her new freeze dryer. I know I would want to try everything freeze-dried if I had a freeze dryer! LOL.

I will make a video on that...for things that I will use quickly I will just store in mason jars but for long term storage I will put them in 7 mil mylar bags where they will last for 20 to 30 years

I purchased the same freeze dryer in 2020 and I've yet to taken it out of the box. I think I got scared after seeing so many people on utube having issues. You've expired me to bring mine out
Oh no! You definitely want to get it going just in case you do have issues. We did have a small issue with the switch and they sent a new one out right away. The only thing is you have to do the repairs yourself. I love it though, I actually need more than one
Bunnies are soooo cute 🤭 Freeze dryers are so pricey. You're lucky to afford one. Does the ice cream keep long on shelf? Does it still taste like ice cream?
