You forgot to mention that Freud and Jung got really drunk once and got matching dragon tattoos, only Jung's dragon did not have a penis while Freud's did.

I have to say that I am beyond grateful that your channel is still up and running, you have a way of explaining things to me that would've taken me weeks of months of study, such as the bicameral mind and Ian Mcghichrists work.

Freudian view is just too reductive, which i suppose could be rather counterproductive, but Jung's conception springs from it. Peraonally I definetly don't view Freud as 'idiot' but i'd say that the best thing to come from Freud's work is Jung's work

Intuitively one would expect that as our society becomes less repressive toward sexuality that there would be less neuroses in it as well. Anecdotally it seems there is at least as much if not more neuroses in modern society so either the theory is overstated, the anecdotes are wrong, or something additional or different is giving rise to neuroses in the place of repressed sexuality.

That was awesome! I know you probably don't enjoy Christian Science but I hope you talk about the Communion of Saints a little as it relates to the subconscious

Was Freud’s super ego represented at all in Jung’s theory of consciousness?
@nexusvoid314
@nexusvoid314 Год назад
Yes but he used different terminology to explain it's existence and phenomenology, namely that it stands essentially for the concept of a moral God. The father archetype conveys society's morals and forces people to obey moral principles. Erich Neumann breaks it down very well.

I wrote this on one of your videos about the bicameral mind and find it to be an interesting connection: I wonder how Bicamerality fits with these useful conceptions that Freud had of Id, Ego and Superego... does removing the Ego collapse this system into another kind of psyche closer to the bicameral mind perhaps, or might it be that a suppressed or relatively undeveloped Ego manifests itself as a psyche featuring Bicamerality? I could see Bicamerality being akin to having an Id and Superego-only existence (or at least having those two as relatively dominant compared to the Ego. It does seem like the Superego may be equivalent to "the Gods" or at least the noble Gods who call man to a higher path... maybe what we call Bicamerality is really an alternative understanding of the source of the Superego "voice" in our head, which judges our actions and thoughts with a conscientiousness that we recognize as calling us to our better selves. This seems to fit too with how you say that with Bicamerality, the voice of the Gods compel the person to action, direct them in what they do. Socrates said he had a daemon telling him what NOT to do, could that be related to what we call the Superego. Alternatively, it might just be that what we today call the Super-ego WAS the exact thing being referred to as The Gods, and ancient peoples didn't necessarily have such a drastically different experience of conciousness... in fact, don't we colloquially refer to that sense of right and wrong as "our conscience speaking to us"? Finally, what if a Bicameral mind was the psychological structure of man living within a tribe of genetically related individuals and that as gene culture co-evolution brought our ancestors into larger groups of less and less genetic relationship, that created an environment of rather intense selection pressures that caused a shift in genes, or an epigenetic shift that coincided with the emergence of a stronger Ego, as having such to navigate this new setting more effectively brought advantages to those who expressed the Ego and perhaps of greater self-awareness and of other minds if that's indeed an feature of the Ego (related to that, is the Ego associated with a higher degree of consciousness?)

Yeah good question. I think that Freud's dream theory is actually rather useful, but wish fulfillments should not be taken to mean exclusively sexual wishes, people wish for a lot of things that aren't connected to sex.

@@nexusvoid314 Perhaps the word sex is the issue because some people get sexually aroused by balloons its a paraphilia , others power dynamics . Sex isn't always fluids and penetration , atleast not physically . Think of phone sex , or BDSM even anime sex is a creative /destructive devouring energy some people are sapiosexual and demisexuals . A spiritual or mathematical conversation could be sex The co creation of ideas could be sex , like giving birth to a corporation (industry babies)
