Well there is always premium economy, which is technically the same quality of economy class around 10 years ago.

It’s all about money. Airlines are giving us cramped seats because passengers are willing to endure it in exchange for cheap tickets.

There are times that I have travelled where I would have happily paid to be knocked out and put in the hold and woken on arrival!

TBH, I'd happily lay in a morgue drawer on a plane, I suffer so much on long flights from sitting still.

Perhaps we have a morgue area and seat area, basically we can have a beds for everyone and limited number of seats for passengers to leave their seat and take turns eating on.

As long as I'm asleep! For most people the best possible flight is one where they sleep through the whole thing. It says a lot for airlines that they offer a 'product' that most people don't want to experience.

LOL! Dude, have you been paying attention? They keep installing more seats and reducing seat pitch. If you are a logistician then you are fully aware of the cargo capacity in addition to the passenger capacity. A 767-300ER flying from SEA to LHR needs about 130,000 pounds of fuel to carry 235 passengers... and 30,000 pounds of cargo. Airlines use a figure of 190 pounds per passenger in the summer, or 195 in the winter. So call it 200. Economy seats weigh 74-82 pounds. For simplicity let's call it 100. So passenger and seat is 300 pounds. So I can convert that 30,000 pounds of cargo into 100 passengers. Which is all going in economy, which would be more than a 50% increase. I would be reducing ultimate range, because the 767-300ER has a maximum fuel capacity of 161,000 pounds, but for most operators they aren't going more than 4,500 nm anyway. And then there's the history of airlines reducing seat pitch.

If they built slider wider planes like that (I think Boeing) concept, they'd use the lifting body to reduce fuel consumption etc and would have wider seats etc. Problem solved for us poor folk.

I am a logistician with major in air traffic and aviation transport. Not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic. Adding more seats to the aircraft is not impossible, however we have to bear in mind that additional passengers is equivalent to more weight. An aircraft is only capable of a certain MTOW, installing more seats mean that the TOW is higher than limited, or it might causes spill, bear in mind there will always be some no show passengers. On the other hand, an aircraft equipped with these seats will definitely save some weight, that saved weight can go to more seats and more passengers, although that might not be necessary or possible. A lighter seat might save a few kg, but to install a new seat and having a additional passenger onboard will add at least another 60kg(assuming they are adults) Additionally, it might even be a advantage for the airline to install lighter seats but keep the same numberof them(depends on the RPK for a specific route), because less weight means less power is required, and less power is required means less fuel is needed, finally, less fuel is needed means lower unit cost eventually higher yield. Lastly, it is definitely positive for an airline to have a high ASK, however, it would not be profitable if ASK is higher than RPK, in this case more seats than necessary or allowed.
