RazoRock: Game Changer .68P - Gillette Nacet - A&E Cacao Lussuria
I'd like to thank Steve Gilchrist for kindly lending and sending me today's fabulous razor. The Razorock Game Changer is available with a .68 or a .84 blade gap and both razors have a great reputation. The razor has been around for about a year, so I'm a little late but it is still available with certain handles and you can register your interest on the Italian Barber website. I love the Halo handle.
www.italianbarber.com/product...
I had a terrific shave today. The A&E soap is superbly thick; if you have trouble recognising slickness in your soap, then I recommend trying an Ariana and Evans shaving soap. This one smells of chocolate cake. Now, you may think that's a bit strange but post shave it smells fantastic!
I hope you enjoy the video 👍

Hi Mark- Great shave and razor/soap review; thank you! The Game Changer is a nice razor; I mostly use the .84 base plate. Nice scent description on the soap, as well. I hope you have a relaxing weekend ahead and best regards, as always, my friend!

That soap has really surprised me; thank you, I think it's great. I noticed on the A&E website, they make a Choco Cubano range; I would never have thought of pairing those two types scents so I tried the Cacao Lussuria with my Calle Ocho balm. Not bad 😃 Very best wishes for the weekend Mike. Take care of yourself, buddy.

Mark glad you loved the game changer, it gave you an incredible shave. I waited months to get the .84 with the barber pole and loving this with an Astra blade in it. Can’t beat the price point for what you are getting.

Great shave, mate. I sit here hand on heart to say that the best shaves I ever get are from a game-changer .84 straight bar. It's to the point I rarely pick up anything else. Loaded with a Nacet, it's very hard to beat. The only thing is, I find loading and unloading the blade a tiny bit fiddly for me but not too bad. I think you'll be chuffed with the .84P if you get your hands on one. It's just the right amount of everything. Very sweet.

Hey Mark, I hope your well. There are some fantastic comments, really they're mini reviews, coming in about the quality of the GC razors, no matter which one it is. The gamechanger is truly named just perfectly. I picked one up last year and I rarely use the other razors in my collection now. It's smooth, efficient and built to last. I have the .68 I may at some point buy the .84 and open comb baseplates just to experiment as they are cheap enough. I'd say this is definitely a higher tier razor for a very affordable price.

Great video Mark, I have the Razorock P.84 and it is alright but needs a sharp blade like a Gillette silver blue to give me a decent shave. We all need a few mild razors for those days when the shave before was a little to rough and the skin does not want another trauma day IMO. The price is very reasonable and also comes with a leather travel pouch when you get a Game changer. Another feature of the razor it has no side blade over hang and that is very nice when a lot of my razors have that similar feature and I have been a bit spoiled that way. I used a Gillette old type the other day and it scrapped my ear lopes a few times with it's excessive side blade overhang. Have some great shaves!

Hi Ron, thank you. The .68P suited me very well, the thing I like most was it's comfort, but I must admit I'd quite like to try the .84P too. We"re all different and that what makes our 'hobby', if that's the right word, so interesting. We are getting a bit spoilt by these razors with no overhang at the sides; catching my nose is a favourite. At the moment I'm finding myself favouring the milder blades whereas I used to really enjoy a more aggressive shave - perhaps I'm wearing my skin out 😅 All the best. Cheers

Well, after seeing your shaving preferences, Mark, I was pretty sure the .68 would work well for you. Use it a while longer. Joe hasn’t got his next run of stainless Lupos in yet. One of them is mine. Once I have given it a thorough test, I’ll send it your way to see what you think. I’ll tuck in some American staples too, such as samples of Barrister/Mann Seville in Reserve, Glissant and Excelsior bases so you can get a feel for the differences in Will’s soaps. Also maybe a scoop of Declaration Grooming’s Scrumtrulicious (chocolate/coffee, mostly chocolate) to get the feel of Declaration’s Icarus base, which has some tallow in it but is mostly vegetable fats. I like Icarus even better than Cullen’s Catie’s Bubbles soaps and that’s a mouthful because some of the best shaves of my life came using Cullen’s soaps, particularly the marijuana-scented one. You guys have your Phoenix & Beau, we have our Carius, Charkalis & Cullen. If you want to try a sample of the hard-to-find QCV cannabis soap, I can include a sample of that as well. Just when you send back that Game Changer, throw in something cool that they don’t sell here, like a Palmolive stick, and I’ll make it worth your while. Cheers!
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 4 года назад
Now wait just a minute. There is a marijuana scented shaving soap! Can you imagine wearing that and getting pulled over, in a traffic stop, by the police. Or going through the airport and meeting one of those dogs that check for drugs. It's my shaving soap officer, honestly 😃 I'd love to try some of the soaps you mentioned. Thank you. I must get myself a Palmolive stick so, I'll pick one up for you. I thought the Lupo was aluminium. I must admit I haven't looked very much at RazoRock products before but based on the GC that might have to change. The pricing is incredible. I don't like their soaps, I must admit. Everyone I have tried has burned me but, we are spoiled for choice these days. It's fabulous. I'm on a little bit of a mission to try some of the British vintage Gillette razors. I picked up a flare tip for £10 which is fantastic, it was a bit grotty but cleaned up very well. Now, if I can just find a British Goodwill. As rare as rocking horse poo! All the best buddy Have a brilliant weekend.

NIce vid, Mark! I'm glad they make that .68 head, because I'm sure there are some guys out there who want, and even need, a super mild exposure. I had one and tried about 10 different blades in it, and only 3 gave me acceptable shaves. The rest were so mild that they were ineffective. So it might be the mildest razor that I've ever tried. Much more mild than the vintage Gillette Techs. I'll bet the folks that find the .68 head and love it may have trouble finding other razors out there that fit them as well, since it is just so different. I dunno. I like the big brother to this one, the 84, which I find rides a nice line between comfort and close cutting. I enjoy it very much. For me and my face, the two different gaps are like night and day. Like you, I"m very happy with the fit and finish on these razors. I have shaved a few times with the ASD2 from Feather and I think it is very similar to this one. Maybe the Feather did just a little better for me, but really pretty much the same.

@@trevorj4088 My experience was that the GC 68 did work well with a few of my blades, and it was a few more than the Feather ASD2. So it that sense it was more flexible. But I remember loving the comfort and closeness of the ASD2 when it had a Feather blade in it. A better shave with it than the GC 68, IIRC. I would probably choose that setup instead of the GC 68, from a shave-joy perspective. But when we're in this super-mild zone of gear, the subjectivity of all this is even more evident than usual. You can see how the GC 68 works very well for Mark. So my experience with these two may or may not mirror yours! So take it all for what it's worth. Hope that helps!

@@sgrdddyshaves thanks I have an ASD2 and I use it a lot but it does get frustratingly mild sometimes and I was wondering if the GC68 would scratch that itch of a tiny more aggressiveness. Claude Johns no worries about the aggressiveness of the .84 plate. It uses the same cap and clamping angle, thus giving you identical “top feel.” Since the guard is dropped .16mm, felt exposure may be slightly more but mostly you get better efficiency by being able to cut .16mm longer stubble without obstruction. That extra efficiency can be helpful if you skipped an extra day between shaves. Yeah, it might feel a touch more aggressive if you ride the bar. I try to ride the cap to stay at a shallower angle. For me the two razors feel very similar, which is to say very good.

Have a great and safe week, my friend.

Seen a few reviews on this and decided to get one as a second razor. Sadly they are out of stock everywhere and harder to find than rocking horse you know what lol. My search goes on, so if any of your subscribers know where to get one in the UK please add a link in the messages. Still getting skin irritation so maybe this .68 with a mild blade will be the way to go for me fingers cross.

I happened to come across your shave with the GC .68. When you commented about the positive blade exposure, I immediately thought about my Rex Ambassador. The RA is not comfortable for me because of its positive blade exposure. I can only assume the GC's blade exposure is not as pronounced as the RA? Also, how would you compare the comfort and efficiency of the GC to the Rockwell 6S/6C? Thanks for your feedback?
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 10 месяцев назад
The blade exposure on the GC must be very small - on the Italian Barber website, it notes that the exposure is positive but doesn't go further. The GC is not at all like the Rex Ambassador! I had a shave this week with the GC .84 Open Comb. It's a very nice shave not as smooth as the 6C, in my opinion but still very nice.

@@FriendshipShavingI had my first shave with the GC 68 this morning using an Astra Green blade. I found it to be as smooth as my 6S with plate R4. What I like about the GC is the end tabs are not exposed, the shaving head is thinner, and the knurling is more pronounced. It's a good-looking safety razor and definitely worth the price. I'll have to shave with it a few more times before I switch from the 6S as my daily driver.

Hello sir, which one do you recommend for daily use; 0.68 sb or 0.84 sb? Thank you in advance.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving Год назад
This is actually a hard question to answer, as my skin and growth is probably different to your own. Sensitive skin is and how coarse your grows are factors to consider. I find the .68 good for a daily shave but a little mild, and the .84 a touch aggressive for a daily shave. Of the two I would choose the .68 for myself. One that I like better is the Edwin Jagger DE89 which seems to sit in the middle of these two razors. I don't know if you have thought of this one or the RazoRock Baby Smooth (I think that is what it was called).

@@FriendshipShaving Thank you so much sir, you replied my answer generaly as you can. Yes I heard RazoRock Baby Smooth, I am kinda confused about Aluminum razors and were looking for stainless steel razors. Have nice shaves sir.

Great shave, Mark. Enjoy the Gamechanger. I think aggressiveness is overrated, at least for the daily shaver. Did you know there's an even milder razor in the Razorock stainless line? It is the Razorock Mamba. It has a 0.53 mm gap and ~0 to -0.01 mm exposure. I almost got one, but I bought a Tatara Masamune instead. It has a 0.63 mm gap and -0.13 mm exposure. But the razor holds the blade very rigidly, much as a cartridge holds the blade. And the recessed blade lets me apply pressure, also much as with a cartridge razor. I can go after a close shave without nicking or irritating myself, in ways I never could with a wide gap, high exposure razor For me, less is more. Cheers.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 4 года назад
Hi Warren. I didn't know about the Mamba; the RazoRock collections have largely passed me by, until now. I wonder what the exposure measurement is for the Game Changer. I find it very strange that a razor can have a negative blade exposure; it seems completely counter intuitive to me and I must admit, I had not realised you could have negative exposure. This is definitely a learning experience for me and I'm always grateful for that. I'll be making notes later. Thank you 👍
@Warren.I
@Warren.I 4 года назад
I know it seems counterintuitive, Mark, but for me it started with something counterintuitive that you pointed out about the Rex Ambassador: you found it irritated you no matter how low the setting. Our colleague Wazzu Cougars pointed out that the Rex has high (and nonadjustable) "blade reveal" and said it could be reduced with a shim. I took his advice to my AS-D2. I will be on blood thinner till next spring (my health is fine, by the way) and have been looking for ways to keep nicks to an absolute minimum. Like you I was at a loss because all my razors were low in blade gap, and all of my other choices, e.g, in blade, soap, prep, etc., were already optimized. I was on the verge of considering cartridge shaving when I heard W.C.'s advice. So I took it. It gave my AS-D2 negative exposure (a correlate of blade reveal), and the resulting shaves were so much freer of nicks with no serious loss in efficiency that I decided to get a negative exposure razor. I haven't regretted the choice, so let me thank you, Mark, for starting things off with that paradox. I should say that, aside from the Masamune and Mamba, Karve and Rockwell 6S offer base plates with negative exposure, and there may be other options out there. I think committed daily shavers who are nick-prone but who can't resist chasing BBS might want to consider one of these as an option. They can always switch base plates if they find they need more aggression, except I guess for the Mamba, though even there I found myself wondering if the chap who lent you the .68 Gamechanger could get through his ATG pass without having to switch to an AS-D2 if he used a Mamba base plate under a .68 cap, or vice versa. They look so similar in build. I wonder if Razorock has an opinion.

Hi Mark, Ever tried the Speick shaving cream (original version)? I used it for the first time today and my oh my what a tremendous product! Only a small amount needed to build a lovely lather, smells great, shave was very close and irritation-free. And, if anything, it's even "more natural" than Weleda. I'd love to see you review it.
@FriendshipShaving
@FriendshipShaving 4 года назад
I did have some Speick quite a while back now. I'm trying to remember but I think that's made with an alpine plant. I seem to remember it burnt my skin a bit which is why I never got around to reviewing it on video. I know I was disappointed as it seemed to be very natural.

Wine gum soap 😅 I bet that would sell. The aftershave might make you smell like a sugary alcoholic. Yeah the brush did hog the lather a bit. To be honest, it's not really broken in yet - it needs a lot more use than I've been giving it. Have a great weekend, Neil. Cheers butty.

Hello Mark, the .68P is a bit mild for me, I do better with the P84 both in the safety bar and the open comb version. My only criticism is the design of the head, the posts in the bottom plate do not really make it easy to assemble the razor. Probably this design makes manufacturing easier, but feels awkward in use for me. From an aesthetic point of view, it is not one of the prettiest SS razors, but I guess you can't expect everything at this price level... Regards, Roberto

Hello Roberto. I didn't realise there was an open comb and a safety bar version of the P84; thanks for mentioning it. I'll be honest Alan, it's been a long time since I shaved with the Rockwell. I know it was a good razor but it's been too long to give a direct comparison.
