When it comes to FE reps I can see the issue. People want other fighters represented even if they are older games. However ever since Smash 4 its bene more about big names. Older characters are added only of they are big names like Banjo. Why "waste" time on older characters when the newer ones are more wanted. Tbh this is a overall problem with Smash tbh. Everything is about what's gonna get the most hype out of people. Granted some of them are deserving of it but at the same time it kills off the chances of older or obscure characters. Hell I liked the Nintendo originals a lot more then amny of the 3rd parties. I was actually happy for Byleth and Pyra/Mythra because it was actually nintendo characters getting added upposed to ones only done for hype. I just hope that Smahs 6 will go back to the brawl mindset and add such unique additions
I think big names/recent picks have their place in Smash. A healthy balance of old & new, first-party & third-party, iconic & obscure is the most ideal. Having a newer face to draw attention to upcoming titles isn't inherently bad... That being said, even an obscure character is still someone's favorite. Take me for example. One of my all-time favorite Nintendo characters is Lanky Kong. This goober has only ever been playable in 2 divisive games the last 2-3 decades, but his inclusion would mean so much more to me than big-time guests like Master Chief or the newest protag from the latest Fire Emblem ever could.
Totally agree about Wario and wish he was given more from Wario Land. Being able to pick people up and carry them then punt them like in Wario Land 4 would have been awesome.
Even small things make a difference like a stage or even extra music. Wario Land at best only has 1 track and that's it, they should've added Greenhorn Forest from WarioWorld
@@Videospiel-Man5730 The problem with Wario is that Wario Land moveset would make him broken. Imagine throwing people just like in the game, that might not transfer well. Warioware feels less broken, so I assume that's why there are more references to Ware than Land.
Really glad you brought up the Sakurai Kirby game bias in Smash lol that was one of the first things that came to mind when you were telling me about this video
Fun fact: Even thought Custom Moves weren't allowed in competitive tournaments, every time a tournament had Custom Moves enable Palutena was a MUST choice; she was mid-low tier in Smash 4 but her Custom Moves were some of the best from that game (specifically the one that increased her speed to ridiculous levels). By the way, another great video my pana Luis, keep up the hard work weon!
I love the part where Mario did the Super Mario Style, the whole video really gave me, my wife and her boyfriend a grand ol' time together. Thanks Mr. Gemchel!
@@Abaj_ Sonic is already annoying because of how fast he is, if he was given more variety, it would be even worse in Smash. Sonic is extremely hard to represent because he's canonically too powerful!!!!!! As to why he isn't cocky in Smash, blame Sega they Sonic to look friendlier. Sakurai can't change Sonic without getting into trouble from Sega.
the Reason for Fate's sloppy story, is because the writers where trying to achieve too much with not enough time. Intelligent Systems had an idea for Fates to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Intelligent Systems knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.
17:47 when you say that about the FE characters you appreciate, I feel like it'd be better if in the next Smash game, they cut the FE roster in half. Marth, Ike, Robin and Byleth are all unique and different from each other from different parts of FE. And then new characters from future FE games could add in more variety with other types of weapons and abilities and come from future eras too
So glad you discussed how mediocre Fire Emblem’s representation is. Corrin was truly one of the few awful choices for a character in Smash, one of the few blatant advertisements. Hell, I’m not fond of Byleth, either, and I think one of the house leaders would have been a better choice, considering they don’t care about having bias for one of three Starter Pokémon. All three have unique primary weapons that have never been used as the full move set, but they still went with blue hair swordie number 5
One thing I love about Pokémon in Smash is that it also references the anime, many Pokémon such as Lucario and Mewtwo are based on their anime movie versions and Ash-Greninja as the final Smash
Oh get this, Sonic's expressions in Brawl is meant to be faithful to his American marketing, were as Smash 4 is meant to be faithful to his Japanese marketing. More pacifically the differences between the Sonic's marketing in the classic games. You know how a lot of Japaneses characters usually have an edgier look in the western box art, Sonic is one of them. However Sega of American has been downsized in 2011, So maybe Sega Of Japan was in charge when Sonic returned for Smash??? Why, it's confirmed that Sega Of Japan hated Sonic's Western marketing. In fact Sega Of America and Japan sometimes argue, even during the Saturn era. Sonic's look in Smash 4 also kinda reminds me of how Sonic looked in Sonic the Fighters. Which is where a lot of Sonic's non specials come from, so at least it's faithful to the character technically!!!!!!
Brawl Sonic be like "P E L O T A" I'm also really happy with how you gave the fire emblem characters a fair shake. I love the series (except fates, though the music for that game was really good) but having like 8 characters in the game with half of them being clones of Marth ain't right

I always weirdly got the impression that Sonic's whole representation in the franchise feels kinda passive aggressive compared to other third parties. Since he wasnt even in the plan for Brawl but Nintendo told Sakurai to add him in at the last second due to the sheer amount of fan demand.
Sonic ending up being so poorly designed because of an unfortunate side effect of being a rushed last minute edition to Brawl. I think Sakurai did a good enough job bearing those circumstances in mind. Sonic isn't the most popular in Japan, especially at the time of 2008, and Sakurai had only played Sonic 1, 2, CD, 3, Fighters, Shadow and '06 WHILE even back then thinking of classic and modern Sonic as two separate things... yikes
That's the problem, see Sonic is a high tier character already. If Sonic where to be any stronger he would broken in Smash, so Sakurai reduced him for balance reasons.
Sakurai also has some bias against Kirby. After Kirby and Meta Knight were so busted in their debut games, people complained about Sakurai being biased towards his characters. So Sakurai kind of just stopped adding Kirby related stuff to Smash Bros, and possibly why in Ultimate all the Kirby characters are low-mid tier.
I love the Pokémon representation in Smash and it is purely amazing. Though I wish we got a fighter for Gen 3 and Gen 5 but at least they still get cool representation through stages and pokeball Pokémon. The Rayquaza boss in Brawl was so badass
As a huge Sonic fan, I think it speaks to just how good the songs are at base, but more remixes would of been cool, and Sonic having a moveset that does good service to his serious wouldof been nice too
the absolute most disrespectful thing about Dark Samus representation in smash bros is WE DIDN'T GET VS DARK SAMUS AS A MUSIC THEME IN SMASH. You have a character but don't have their theme? WTH MAN! Also still bummed we didn't get Eggman as a character to 1. add Sonic representation and 2. GIVE US VS EGG DRAGOON AS A THEME (it would also make for the best final smash for eggman too). It also feels like the music picks are a bit...skewed in one direction, mostly going for main themes and very few stage/boss themes.
Uhm... Right of the bat i do not really agree with something Yes Mario is well rapresentend in term of reference but it's very badly rapresented in something i would argue it's even more important: getting the characters rights. Mario is too serious expecially in Brawl, Luigi seems depressed, but the worst of all is Bowser. He is portrayed as a wild ferocius beast instead of his goofy arrogant manchild self that i love from the games. Donkey Kong is also too beastly and do not get me started with Wario. Bowser Jr. Yoshi And Rosalina are perfectly fine tough, Peach is a bit too dizzy but mostly fine and Daisy is too similar to Peach but also fine. But Bowser in particular really annoys me
Sakurai intentionally wanted Bowser to be menacing and badass, it’s a creative decision not an inaccurate representation of him. Mario and Luigi act just like their Smash counterparts in several spin-offs
@@megapokesonicx i know it's intentional but that's still makes him in inaccurate to how it is in the game. It's a choice yes, but it still mean that he is no rappresenting the character as it is, but he is changing to how he would like him to be wich isn't really a good way to rapresent a franchise imo. Mario only really act like that or close in Strickers wich is a giant outliare and portrays the characters much differently to how they usually are, every other times Mario is not that serious even when playing sports despite being very competitive.
@@matteopugliese4658 regardless of whether you dislike these decisions or not, they were done with Nintendo’s permission and approval. There’s a difference between bad representation and creative liberties
@@matteopugliese4658 Donkey is based on King Kong in the arcade game, so Sakurai wanted to reference that in Smash. As for Wario, Sakurai couldn't fit both so he choose to have more Warioware references than Wario Land references. For example the fart is a reference to Smooth Moves.
The pokemon representation will be pure crap until there is a stand alone grass starter. It's utter nonsense that 2/3 starter types het stand alone fighters.
@@thekurgan14 why does it matter if the Grass type is stand alone or not and what does it have to do with representation. The fact that we have one (Ivysaur) is great.
@@thekurgan14 that’s the stupidest reasoning I’ve ever heard, how does a grass type Pokémon being stand alone or not make the representation bad??? You’re talking out of your ass
