no, it doesn't at all. The fragments were not even written in the first century. It is estimated that they were written 100-300 AD. Additionally, they contradict the apostles. If you analyze these texts you will see that they reject and contradict the canon of the bible and that they cannot prove that they are connected to the apostles and other eye witnesses of Jesus' ministry. The variety only shows that people mixed what they heard about jesus with other existing beliefs that they had, like hermeticism. Coherence is very important in order to judge the biblical canon. And the gnostic texts are the opposite of coherent. You can be sure that the Bible is correct, because the texts in the Bible can be traced back to the Apostles and eye witnesses of Jesus' ministry.

My intuition is that Mary Magdalene was Jesus’s better half, his Divine counterpart, his beloved, his other half of his soul, his twin soul/twin flame, yin/yang. They were one and the same frequency, an incredible & unbreakable bond, eternal & divine love.❤

It is 100% true, they were married. This will be common knowledge soon. It's not just a Dan Brown story. Do you really think that the bloodline of David was allowed to be exterminated? Who do think the witness in Revelations is that man kills? It's jesus and Mary's descendant. The Bible drops hints all throughout it. The early church suppressed this. The beginning of the NT gives you proof of the bloodline. The NT never says Jesus couldn't marry or fall in love. He was a flesh and blood man of course he was allowed to wed. The biker that's getready to step into the public eye is their bloodline. Remember what I've just said.

" All the great disciples in the world were women. Buddha had thousands of disciples, but the proportion has always been the same: three women, one man. So was the proportion with Mahavir. He had forty thousand sannyasins: ten thousand men, thirty thousand women. And so was the case with Jesus. The really devoted people around him were not the men but the women. When he was crucified, all the men escaped, there was not a single man. All those so-called ‘apostles’ had all disappeared, but the women were there. Three women were there: they had no fear, they were ready to sacrifice themselves. When Jesus was taken down from the cross, it was not by men - those disciples had gone far away, and one or two were there but they were hiding in the crowd women took down the body. And it is very significant that when Jesus appeared after three days, resurrected, he appeared first to Mary Magdalen, not to a man. This is very significant. Why? What about those twelve apostles? Why to Mary Magdalen? And she immediately recognized him, and she rushed to him and she said ‘So, My Lord, you are still alive!’…When she went to tell the male disciples that Jesus was resurrected, they laughed. They said ‘Woman, you are hallucinating.’ And they laughed and they said ‘This is how women always are - imaginative, dreaming, romantic. Now look at this foolish woman. Jesus is dead. We have seen him die on the cross with our own eyes.’ But she cried and she said ‘Listen to me. I have seen him.’ But they would not listen. A woman can be a perfect disciple, and this is how it should be. Woman is receptive, an opening, a womb. They have never been Masters in the sense that men have been Masters - like Mahavir, Buddha, Zarathustra, Lao Tzu. No, they have never been Masters like that. But there have never been disciples like women; no man has ever been able to equal them as far as disciplehood is concerned. And let me tell you this, that as far as this division of male and female is concerned, the female mind is more blessed. Because the real thing is to receive the truth, the real thing is not to give it that is secondary. And a woman is always more total than a man. Whenever she receives the truth, she becomes luminous: her whole body, her whole being shows it; she carries an aura. Have you not seen a woman who is pregnant, how beautiful she becomes? Her face glows, she is carrying a new life within her. And this is nothing compared to a woman who really becomes a disciple. She is carrying God himself within her. Her glory is infinite.”

I love how she makes these teachings come to life! At 1:55 I believe Dr. Pagel’s is referencing Pope Gregory’s declaration around 590 (a.d./c.e) that “the faithful should hold Mary Magdalene as a penitent prostitute”. This was based on an arbitrary assumption about the identity of the “unnamed” woman in “Luke” and a faulty (read convenient) translation of a single word in Luke’s Gospel, which was not, by the way, translated the same way any other place in the Gospel. It wasn’t until 1969 that the Catholic Church finally admitted its error and officially repealed Gregory’s labeling, but how many people actually know all this? (Ref.: Leloup’s translation of the Gospel of Mary Magdalene, xiv, xv) What a loss to all of humanity when these ancient wisdom texts are destroyed, especially when this destruction is intentional. I hold out hope that someday a more intact version of Gospel of Mary Magdalene will be found. Thank you for these wonderful interviews!

As usual Elaine puts her experience with these Nag Hammadi-like Gospels to advantage in breaking down some of the nuances of the material that is contain’d within them - Brava, Madama…!! A couple of points to add that I would love to hear her own take on one day … (Since, after all, a 20-minute podcast overview cannot hope to cover everything pertinent say to the socall’d Gospel of Mary Magdalene (whose name was possibly deriv’d from ‘Miryam[ne] ha Gedolah, = ‘Miryam/Mary the Great’, It is this selfsame Miryam we find in the Coptic Gospel of Phillip whom the [originally Greek ] writer calls ‘the Consort (‘wife’) of the Lord, whom Iesous often us’d to kiss directly on the [mou]th’-and the disciples knew Iesous had imparted certain secrets to her not shar’d with the other disciples…and [Peter] became enrag’d saying : Do you imagine that the Teacher could have possibly lov’d her more than US ?!!’ NB ‘Miryam = ‘princess of the blood’ was often a Daviddic family title rather than any kind of a normal everyday first name-so she was probably of the Daviddic line & would therefore be eligible to be ‘the Son of David’s wife … [Cf John chapter 20:13 = Sir, they have carried off the corpse of my husband (kuriou mou = ‘my lord’ = husband in the KJV of 1611-see Romeo & Juliet Act V : ‘Nurse, saw you my lord?’ (= the morning after the wedding night)] One cannot escape the intimation in both the 4th Gospel & in The Gospel of Mary and the Gospel of Phillip (and the ending of ‘Thomas’) that is very possible this ‘Miryamne’ was in fact married to R. Yehoshua bar Yosef the Galilean Nazir (BCE 12-36 CE) - and this could also explain why this particular ‘Mary’ was always listed FIRST ahead of all the other various ‘princesses of the blood’ [including being listed ahead of his own mother !] the group of under-identified other Mary’s (despite Luke’s attempts !) that follow’d ‘from a distance’ and ‘took care of the movement out of their own pocketbooks’ (NB the Daviddic family at least had some wealthy members and access to great wealth) The Gospel of Thomas Logion 114 states ‘and some of the disciples said, Rebbe, send this woman of yours away for females are not worthy of the life (to come) - but Iesous said to them, let Mary become a male like Adam-just as you all are males like Adam-that she might acquire a soul & be worthy of the life (to come) also…’ Hmmmm …Weird. [presumably females were believ’d (as in many ultra orthodox modern Rabinnic circles) not to have nepheshot (‘life breathing souls’) because YHWH breath’d ‘the breath of life into the nostrils of Adam’ [only] and Adam [alone] became a ‘living soul’ whereas gossipy Havvah ‘never got to receive the breath of life’…] Either way, the role of especially Daviddic females was ‘swept under the proverbial carpet’ by later (non Daviddic Bishops) after the 1st Fail’d Jewish War against Rome (66-72 CE) when the Davidds were nearly wip’d out Interestingly, perhaps Judas Didumos Thomah (‘the Twin’ aka ‘Thomas’ ) own twin grandsons were regarded as ‘royal heirs to the throne of David’ and both had been summon’d to Rome in order to pay taxes on all Daviddic lands in Palestine in c. 96 when ‘the Divine Emperor’ Domitian demanded an accounting of their holdings - some 20 years after the war - all the Davidds apparently were willing to admit they had left was 900 hectares in the Galilee, worth 900 denarii = approx USD $1 million in to-day’s currency …) Apparently the Evionim (‘Ebionite Christian Messianists’ headed by James the Just (Jesus Daviddic blood brother) before the War only appointed ‘episkopoi’ (=what the Dead Sea scroll Zadokites call’d meqqaberim = ‘overseers’ = hence ‘bishops’) that were of the Daviddic line - All of these connexions poor Elaine in this all-too-brief overview wasn’t able to comment upon so please forward this to Elaine for any comments or additional light that she might be able to shed on all of this… !!

Mary Magdalene just means that she came from Magdala. There is no hidden meaning. It is like they called Jesus, Jesus of Nazareth, because he grew up in Nazareth. That was their culutre, when surnames didn't exist and some cultures still talk like this. Gnostics simply overinterpret things, which proves that they aren't credible at all. Thomas Logion 144 shows how rampant and unchecked misogyny was in gnostic circles. The real Jesus wouldn't have let his disciple say this, let alone confirm his view by saying that Mary has to become male in order to go to heaven. He would have showed his disciple why it is wrong to say that someone isn't worth of life, just like he did when people claimed that sinners aren't worthy of his company. Gnosticism had a lot of misogynistic beliefs that don't have anything to do with the Abrahamitic tradition, but come from their own Gnostic cosmology. They believed in a female character called Sophia, but she isn't like her name would suggest. She is portrayed as a dumb and reckless person who wants what she can't have. She is considered to have fallen from grace, in so doing helping to create the material world, that they consider to be evil and created by the evil God/ the demiurge. Gnostics associated her with the Holy Spirit, claiming that the Holy Spirit is a feminine creature/ not God and that Mary didn't conceive Jesus through the Holy Spirit because females can't conceive from females. So Thomas Logion 144 shows us this belief is rooted in misogynistic gnostic cosmology. That the feminine needs to be erased and masculinized, or like they say become androgynous. But no, it isn't androgynous, the masculine is never portrayed negatively. So it is better to decribe it as a masculinazation, because the goal is to erase the feminine. Maybe it was influenced by Pandora's box, it sounds like that, doesn't it? It shows that Gnosticism is a mix of many set of beliefs that existed before Christianity and that they don't have much to do with Abramitic tradition, because their beliefs contradict the Abrahamitc tradition. Gnostics openly rejected the Abrahamitic tradition by framing YHWH as the demiurge and creator of the evil material world that they want to escape with secret knowledge. The Thomas fragment has another verse that says: “Jesus said, ‘When you see one who has not been born of woman, fall upon your faces and prostrate yourselves before that one: it is that one who is your father.’ ” which shows that this is a fake and misgynistic Jesus. In this verse femininty is being demeaned by imagining someone, who was born without a mother and praising him for that. It also affirms the view of Gnostic cosmology and Sophia falling from grace, helping to create the evil world. Gnostics think that creating females is wrong and evil. They also despised intercourse for that reason. They thought the demiurge (evil God) created it in the female Eve and that they have to overcome this at some point. In the Secret Revelation of John it says: “And to the present day sexual intercourse, which originated from the first ruler [the demiurge] has remained. And in the female who belonged to Adam it sowed a seed of desire; and by sexual intercourse it raised up birth in the image of the bodies. ˮ So basically Gnostics approriated Abrahamtic culture and doctrine and twisted it, by mixing, changing it with other beliefs, which is why it became the opposite of Abrahamitic culture and doctrine.

It makes more sense that it's written in a time when women as leaders in the church is a hot topic of disagreement. This is in the first and second century AD. Why would Mary Magdalene live in the home of Jesus IF THEY WERE NOT MARRIED???
@timothygrayson
@timothygrayson Год назад
Christ loved all his disciples equally but for different reasons. His love was absolute and true. Mary was the only female disciple therefore he had to treat her with a unique care for she was wild but necessary to accept leadership at a time of fear and backlash. Mary as a result felt close to Jesus because of her personal journey which showed power and determination to achieve acceptance as an equal among men. The relationship between Christ and each disciple was sacred and required faith and trust in order to carry the load. And, that load was collective responsibility for their oath to Christ and one another. I believe that many of the disciples were scared of Mary because she was a woman and alone. Fragile but resilient to change which was inevitable and necessary in order to free people of carnal and material desires which hinder passage to what morally is correct and beneficial to the promotion of life. I still believe that men mistrust Mary because she was seen as a weak link in the chain of sacred inheritance. It is ironic that the greatest betrayal of man has been the omittance of Mary from the scripture and the apparent misinterpretation of scripture and the rejection of the commandments. The Bible is used to justify self aggrandisement and seek authority through violence and enslavement of others. When Jesus died he passed the emotional batton on to each disciple. They were trained to use their talent to promote values that a necessary for life with degrees of dignity. No greater dignity than personal respect that a man can show a woman by allowing them choice and respecting sexual independence from another. Mary was adamant to assert her right to this respect, as all men and women today still require. We are not walking genitalia but independent animals with this most sacred of personal space. Many seek fame and fortune among the masses and each believe they have status through authority over others physically and emotionally. Mary retained her dignity although she was an object of desire in the eyes of men. Mary deserves respect because of her adherence to the commandments and her pursuit of truth which is the relationship between God and man. Even the most basic of animals deserve respect for they obey the laws of consciounce and life force.

I think its authentic. Peter scolded Jesus: as I say Jesus was a means to an end for everyone around Him except Mary Magdalene and Mary of Bethany. I like Dr. Pagels interpretation that He made us all human. My interpretation is that Jesus said that women should be encouraged to go through the Ranger School Mary Magdalene is the Patron Saint of the 19th Amendment.

It’s cause women were the main curators of psychedelic sacraments, so of course she’s going to be closer to Jesus then Peter. That’s why she was meant to be the Apostle of Appstles. The Greeks did this on purpose when they wrote the bible because it was based off Dionysus and women were the main curators of their psychedelic sacrament too.

It should never be lost on us that Jeshua appeared to Mary first. There’s a reason for everything, and there was a reason for this. Jeshua stated that women should be equal to men (written in the Gnostic Gospels) and until we are viewed and treated this way, it’s wrong according to Him.

There's much evidence in the gospels that the religion of Jesus gradually became "Romanized": eg. Jews get blamed instead of Romans, Pilate is given a free pass etc. Early christianity had to adapt to avoid persecution by and gain acceptance of Rome. Roman society was extremely misogynist, far more so than Greek, Egyptian or Mesopotamian (though perhaps on par with Israelite in different ways). So it would make sense, if Christians were changing their practices to conform with Rome that they would abandon earlier traditions that included female leaders & apostles.

Wouldn't the gospels of anyone say the thing they wanted to say? That's not really an argument...the issue is how do we know what is true... epistemology...not theology...and if all of this is true shouldn't we consider all evidence...not just approved doctrine...shouldn't we observe it all? And if it conflicts should we rectify those conflicts or bicker amongst ourselves...as someone who doesn't believe what I am saying is...there are many claims simply about the Christian and Judean God long before the Muslim religion showed up on the scene and I can't even parse that...god said he made it clear...but simply he made it as clear as mud...and that's the part that sucks...

Mat 19:27 Then Peter said in reply, “See, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” Mat 19:28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Luk 6:13 And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles: Luke 6:14-16 Mat 19:28 Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

I like that the Gospel of Mary Magalene is the summation of this video. Many preaching the bible in the USA discount the Gnostic texts. In fact, many preach the Gnostic texts are heretical. I wholly disagree. I have given away copies of the Gnostic bible with the caveat that if the recipient finds it objectionable, to please return it to me. These texts predate the official version concocted by men at the 325 CE council of Nicaea which determined the official canon. I get more meaning from the gospel texts than I ever received from my King James bible. I am open to learning about all established spiritual teachings. I find an amazing correlation with these teachings. Yet there are those that would toss a Gnostic bible into a fire with their Beatle records. It is reported that the Vatican library contains FIFTY-THREE miles of book shelving filled with texts and ancient scrolls related to early and late Christianity. The Vatican keeps many of these texts and ancient scrolls hidden away from modern scholars and the public. What are they hiding? They are bent on control. They desire to spoon-feed us their version of Jesus's life history and teaching., The Vatican is all about controlling the flock. Pure politics. I repeat, the Council of Nicaea was convened by men who felt they knew better than anyone else. My question is: "Were they enlightened men?" I do not believe they were. My thought is that this was the beginning of the corruption of the teaching of Jesus. Allow me the courtesy to read some of these "banned" texts from Nag Hammadi and Quran and allow me to absorb the knowledge and decide for myself.

Represented by the snake in many creation myths, the living cycle has a trinity of a beginning (head), a middle and end (tail). As above so below, the sexes were created in the image of God's cyclical nature where Mother is the head and opening to all beginnings and Father holds the tail to all endings (through which the sowing of seeds allow for the next great matriarchal rebirth).The joining of the two (symbolized by the Ouroborus or the marriage ring) is the sacred union needed in assuring the creation and continuation of new life cycles. To speak of the present day God as "Our Father" is simply an admission to our collective positioning within the bigger cycle. As all mothers have direct experience with the creator quality of birthing, so is the direct experience of rebirthing the divinity within (baptism) belong to that which is spiritually matriarchal. (John 3, verse 3-8). All to say that Mary's anointing and wiping of Jesus's feet with her hair can be seen as "Head to tail" (feet) imagery as she descends her matriarchal head to his patriarchal feet, thus enacting the understanding of the divine cyclical process. (John 12, verse 3)

Many so-called Gospels were attributed to well-known people, to sell better. There are gaps in the Gospel of Mary, that Dan Brown filled in as he chose, for the same reason. We have a Gnostic Church, who accept all the Gnostic Gospels, but I know nothing about them. I am not a misogynist, but we must take into account the status of women in Jesus' time, when politically, women were non-entities. She is no longer identified with the prostitute. What woman would want to marry an itinerant preacher, with no income?It has been suggested that she funded Jesus's ministry (the name simply means Mary from Magdala, but not from prostitution.) Certainly, she was emotionally involved, but she wasn't at the Last Supper, as a wife would have been. The Last Supper was on the day before the official Passover, possibly so that the room would be available for the host family on the next day.
