It was a work. Mephisto was a former boxer. Mr Wrestling 2 was outside the ring with Mephisto one night and Mephisto accidently hit 2 in the eye with the head garb. 2 was so mad, he charged over into the bad guys locker room and started fighting with Mephisto after the match. Everytime Mephisto hit 2, his mask turned red from blood in the area. They said 2 was messed up very bad. I never knew Mephisto was a killer. But in Jose's favor, he was the most over wrestler Dusty said. That's a hell of a compliment knowing how over Tommy Rich was in Georgia.
I REMEMBER GROWING UP SEEING TEXAS WRESTLING ON CHANNEL 17 HERE IN THE SOUTH JERSEY AND SEEING DIFFERENT WRESTLING OTHER THAN THE WWWF FOR THE FIRST TIME. THAT AND FLORIDA WRESTLING WERE MY FAVORITE.
No, the great mephisto was frankie cain, my brother and I were on a couple of shows with him... he was also "clubfoot" inferno www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/bios/f/frankie-caine/
Even though it was bloody & brutal for an brass knuckles title bout, It was exciting to watch from 43 years past. Match : NWA World Title - Ric Flair vs Magnum TA : 06/28/1985.
Paul Boesch wrestling god I remember when I was a little kid Jose Lothario and the Great Mephisto showed up at our house at the same time and i was trying to figure out why they weren't fighting each other and how Lothario's leg wasn't broken after all because it was" broken" a few hours earlier...I was like 6 or 7
You need to take a closer look at Boyd Pierce Jacket while the colors are muted the jacket pattern and texture is more custom and different from a traditional suit from 1973
who was the commentator ? And which man seated at the table was Boyd Pierce? I recognize the name because he was friends with my grandparents and parents but i couldnt recognize him from the back
Lothario knocked out Blackjack Mulligan and "Big Cat" Ernie Ladd, both with savage uppercuts, which can be correctly described as "medically dangerous." Mulligan and Ladd were both six feet eight inches and over 330 pounds each.
I've heard Mephisto's name was Frankie Cain and he also promoted Mississippi at one time. Clearly he was stealing The Shiek's gimmick only less extreme and with more rasslin'.
What's goofier: Mephisto's loaded boot gimmick or the ref? Lothario's legit background offsets the comedy, sort of like having Bret Hart going against Doink the Clown.
Mephisto (Frankie Cain) also had a legit background as well, in fact....I would go so far as to say that he was the Haku of his generation in terms of people not fucking with him due to his legit reputation out of the ring. Cain was a great boxer, knew all the shoot holds and hooks and did "MMA" fights in the 1950's (The Smokers). He's still alive, I think he's about to turn 90 years old....lives down in Florida. I would love to meet the guy sometime just to get his stories. He did it all in the business (wrestler, manager, promoter, booker, owned a piece of a territory, etc.) so he's got loads of stories, I'd imagine
