Any complete version of the King James Version has the Apocrypha because the Church of England says in the Thirty-Nine Articles that these books can be read in church for edification but not to “establish doctrine,” which is ultimately why many Protestants exclude them from their editions of the Bible. While it is granted that one reason has to do with these books not being originally in Hebrew (hence excluded by the Jewish rabbis around the second/third century), the bigger and more crucial cause was that one passage in particular was used to justify the Catholic doctrine that undergirded the practice of selling indulgences (in 2 Maccabees). It’s worth noting that the Apocrypha were part of the Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Bible used throughout the Roman world at the time, and many educated people used that language, including people like Paul who wrote his letters in Greek. New Testament writers used the Septuagint as their source for quoting scripture, and of course, as translated into the King James Bible, these quotes are still there.

One comment about the translation vs authorship. The original claim is that Joseph Smith was not even the translator, but that God translated the book word for word, showing Joseph these words in the seer stone. Thus, no Joseph Smith characteristics should be in the text whatsoever.

When I was a kid, my parents went every week or so to do sealings, and I thought they were painting or repairing ceilings. 2:38:55 My first time through the temple I was in shock of how weird it was. And very disappointed that there was no nudity in the film they showed. And the first time through the SL UT temple that the actors where really bad and way to old for the roles and was glad they had clothes on

You don't need to steal knowledge if its available (In many sources and areas, lands, books, etc). Especially if they are "universal" truths taught from on high. The scriptures state - in the mouth of "2 or more witnesses" should the truth be established. (Same concept / pattern - of why Jesus testifies of his father, and visa versa + the holy ghost of course). Okay food for thought :)

@37:77 It was engrained over and over in 00s-10s in Church and Seminary. Drilled over and over that... 'The Book of Mormon is the keystone of our religion' (LDS /Mormonism) [And then they showed an arch with a keystone over the foundation of the church. Explaining that if the keystone didn't exist everything would fall apart/fall down and we'd everything a mess on the foundation. It was even used in the new member discussion for a time.]

Better clarification on the Apocrypha: During the Dyaspora, there was a huge upswing in the number of Jews who had become Helenized, and could no longer speak or read Hebrew. To serve them, the scriptures were translated into Greek. This is the Septuagint version of the Bible. Early Christian writers wrote in Greek as well (with rare exceptions), and so Christianity also adopted the Septuagint Bible for the Old Testament. When the language of the church moved from Greek to Latin, the Latin Vulgate was a translation of the Septuagint and Greek New Testament. Meanwhile, after the fall of the temple, Judica established a council that transformed Pharsitical Judaism into Rabbinical Judaism, and to protect their sacred writings from Christianizing influences, established the one accepted and correct version of their scriptures, and then actively destroyed any other versions they encountered. This established the Masoretic text of the Hebrew Bible. During the Reformation, the first translation of the Old Testament in Latin (and later German, English, etc) from the Hebrew Masoretic text revealed differences between it and the Septuagint. The Apocrypha are those writings that were included in the Septuagint that are not found in the Masoretic text. It includes legends and folktales, as well as histories and politics. I am 71 and had my dancin' naked at burningman days and now my deconstructing is going slowly as I journal and look back on my in and out times with Mormonism.I just found LDS discussions in Feb. this year . I was inactive from 30- 65 then tried to return and just wanted to cringe. Nothing had changed for me. so I am done and healing the pain I felt starting at 15. Hey so something just stuck out to me with the BoM vs JS Sr vision comparison. In Rick Grunder's Parallels in Mormonism he mentions how the Erie Canal traveled through the middle of Rochester, NY via an aqueduct that was several stories high. The tow path along the canal had an iron guard rail and it ran alongside Reynold's Arcade, which was basically like a multi story proto-shopping mall with large windows where young rich people would gather and get rowdy. All of this was quite remarkable for the time period. Rochester was a happening boom town when the canal came through and Joseph Smith traveled there looking for a printer while he and Harris were working on that section of the BoM. It's interesting that the iron Rod is part of JS jr's version.

They will not listen, they are told not to listen to anything that doesn't give them a feeling of bubbly goo inside. I can't get anyone to even answer my questions. They won't discuss this stuff with me. When I ask to speak to a bishop they tell me I have to talk to their little snot nosed kids who sit and regurgitate their MTC testimonies. The only feeling I get when reading the BOM is severe nausea.

Camp revival meetings! That picture, along with the explanation of what they were, explains King Benjamin's set-up. I'd thought that this tent-facing-the-speaker scenario was unique to the BofM/King Benjamin. Nope! It was very familiar in JS's time and place. I don't know if its just me, but the graphics were too fuzzy to read. Great job! More!

Ok, I just have to say.... I had a dream where I was running through the woods and eventually it opened into the field. Right on the other side of the clearing, there was a stream. Also, there was a large boulder beside it. The stream was crystal clear, and seemed to be running from the boulder. I climbed on top of the boulder and laid back looking up toward the sky. It was here that I noticed the very large mountain, like rocky wall type mountain, that was on the other side of this pretty big field. It was a bright gold color and reached so far into the sky that I could not see the top. There was no fruit tree though. Can I add my dream to the lists?? LMAO

After this video, I believe in the Book of Mormon. It happened in Japan, as the place names prove. And the Lamanites are the darker skinned Jomon people. And reformed Egyptian, which is claimed to be so much more compact, is actually Chinese characters, which are indeed very compact. Now it all makes sense.

I think this is the second time Bill has repeated his misunderstanding of the apocrypha. For future reference, most Christian’s DO accept the so called “apocrypha” as just part of the Old Testament canon. I don’t fault Bill for misunderstanding since American culture is filled with evangelical Christianity which does not accept it. But I hope you can pass this along to Bill or hopefully he reads this. Seems pretty clear that Joseph had a gift for creating religious text based on information around him. And a great deal of the book of Mormon is exceptionally similar to other books. It is still so amazing to me that he could even do it. Do we have any other examples of people doing the same thing in a way to influence so many people? Is there another book of Mormon out there?

Deconstruction has been hard.. how does one separate the good from the untruth? I was always taught to not judge the Church based on its members.. as in those who have hurt others- using that same logic makes sense now as well.. to not judge the sense of community I've felt and the good that various members have brought into my life or to dismiss it all simply because the scriptures are false. Doing family history research of my family members in 1825-1854, trying to find the parents of my 3rd great grandfather led me to discoveries that led me to asking questions of what I had been taught about the Book of Mormon... My life has been changed for the better because of reading the Book of Mormon.. even when I found anachronisms and problematic passages- I still found answers.. however- I've been changed my many pieces of fiction that never presented themselves as anything other than fiction.. It seems many people in search of community made choices to follow someone who promised them things he couldn't deliver.. breaks my heart to see all the devastation the leaders have caused over protecting something founded in forgery.

BH Roberts wrote the +7 volume Comprehensive History of the Church. A big brain among the elite scholars. Tasked to finally put some authority to the church's claims placed him in a difficult position, and one he probably didn't want to admit.

Recently found another possible plagiarism. According to Wikipedia, Joseph was influenced by Red Jacket, who was a nephew of Handsome Lake. Reading some of The Code of Handsome Lake, the Seneca Prophet, pages 21-25, some of the details kind of reminded me of King Lamoni's near death experience in Alma 18 verse 42-Alma 19. What do you guys think?

I think The Church reveals their methods in a simple phrase given in the Temples. "Philosophies of Men Mingled with Scripture" The world would be a better place if everyone returned to the Basic Teachings of Jesus... Starting with the Beatitudes. Religion, in their attempts for Control, Power, and Desire for Riches, just make God more Complicated than God really is. If God is "The same Yesterday, Today, and Forever... then the Basics are all we need. Thank you for your Work Cara and Bill.

Great vid! Never-Mo Catholic 😂(lovingly) over mispronunciation of the Pentateuch by Nuance and then Bill. It’s the first five books of the Torah! Correct pronunciation is [ pen-tuh-took, -tyook ], because “ch” makes a “k” sound in Greek. Then I think bill just said “p + Antioch”.
